I CAN FIX HIM ! by KissLeclerc
January 23, 2023 # "You're An Idiot."
SITTING AT THEIR USUAL LUNCH TABLE, Paul's arm rested around Adeline as the two indulged in a lovely conversation with their friends and shared a container of sweet and delicious strawberries that had been cut into thinly sliced hearts.
"Adeline." Joslyn spoke aloud and leaned forward in her seated position, causing the girl in question to glance up from the subtle trance her boyfriend had kept her in. "Hm?"
"Do you ever think about what it would be like to have a conversation with your 16-year-old self and tell her who her current boyfriend is?"
"Oh, all the time." Adeline snickered, setting the strawberry slice down and pushing the container closer to Paul so she could fully join the conversation. "She'd probably throw up and think we're insane."
Genevieve grinned. "Full blown crashout."
"Okay, you're exaggerating. I wasn't even that bad when we were 16." Paul defended himself, leaving the three girls speechless as they all stared at him in awe.
Briefly sharing glances with one another, Joslyn blew air into her cheeks to muffle down a chuckle but failed miserably as they all ended up bursting into laughter.
"You're kidding right??" Genevieve cackled, causing Joslyn to break into another fit of giggles after she had already calmed herself down.
"You once went through seven different girls in the span of a month." Adeline turned to the blonde, judgmentally quirking her eyebrow.
"I was indecisive." The boy immediately shot back, shrugging as he bit back a laugh while his girlfriend immediately smacked the back of his head.
"Indecisive is CRAZY." Joslyn chuckled through the palms of her hands as Paul's words left her in disbelief.
"How good of a boyfriend is he really?" Gen raised her brows as Adeline smirked. "No offense Paul, but I firmly believe you blackmailed her into dating you."
Adeline laughed. "True."
"Hey." Paul's rested hand poked her side, causing the debate captain to turn to him and laugh since she was a little ticklish.
"So is he a good boyfriend or what? Let me know." The Cortes girl pressed for answers.
"It's been like a month, I don't think I can properly judge just yet." She teasingly replied.
"So you're not gonna admit how much of an amazing and wonderful boyfriend I am?" Paul jokingly scoffed.
"You're okay." She sighed.
"Oh." He immediately replied.
Adeline smiled. "I'm kidding." She interlocked her arm with his. "I suppose Yourou are wonderful... and besides, you haven't given me a reason to think otherwise." Her words were stumbling as she struggled with words of affirmation.
"Alright, I'll take it." The blonde smiled and brought her closer to his side
"So." Ollie suddenly interrupted. "Are you guys coming to our match today?" He asked, poking at his pasta with a fork.
"Yeah." Joslyn and Gen replied in unison, the two also both sipping on water before they giggled at their identical response.
"Or let me rephrase that." Ollie laughed and brought his attention to Adeline. "Are you coming to our match?"
"Or do you have tutoring?" Paul quirked a brow. "Again."
"Tutoring was actually cancelled today." Adeline grinned. "I should be available." She glanced at her boyfriend who was already smiling wide.
"Mate, who are you even tutoring?" Kimi chimed in. "Who is stupid enough that they need to get tutored almost every day?.." He questioned as Genevieve elbowed his side.
"You're a dick." Paul grumbled as Adeline placed a hand on his back in comfort, biting back a laugh.
"Paul was tutored nearly every day, idiot." Ollie couldn't help but laugh, trying his best to defend his blonde friend.
"Oh, I know! But, I'm sure they also did more than tutoring." Kimi continued to joke around. "You know...." He trailed off as he made a blowjob motion, earning a hard kick in the shin from Adeline for his inappropriate implication.
"OW??"
"Gen, do something! That hurt!" He winced like a baby as his girlfriend just rolled her eyes.
"Deserved..."
"Guys, I just wanted to know who Adeline has been tutoring if it's not any of us." Kimi continued to complain.
"Just Doriane." She shrugged. "Well, plus Maloney and O'Sullivan." The debate captain answered his question. "Those two have been struggling in Statistics and their professor begged me to lend a hand."
"Wait—Zane and Zak?" Paul quirked a brow with a clear tone, his irritation from Kimi's loose stray insults probably still lingering. "I thought you were only tutoring Doriane."
"On Wednesdays I tutor Doriane... The other days I've been usually tutoring Zane and Zak." She replied. "It's just temporary."
"I didn't know that? I assumed it was just Doriane."
"Well—You never asked?" Adeline shrugged as he removed his arm from around her. "I—" She quirked a brow.
"You're not mad, are you?"
"Well..." Paul briefly glanced up at the rest of the table, the others refusing to make eye contact since the tension was quick to rise. "I kind of am?" He scoffed. Adeline swallowed thickly.
"Okaaayy... so we're just gonna..." Joslyn and Ollie slowly stood up. "We're gonna get cookies from the cafeteria..." She mentioned.
"And maybe not come back... See you later!" The two quickly left the table as Kimi and Genevieve were on the same page.
"We'll give you two some space." Gen said awkwardly before grabbing Kimi's arm and immediately walking away.
Guys what the fuck.
"Wha—" Adeline glanced at Paul once again. His jaw locked as he refused to look at her. "Are you actually mad?" She asked and softly placed a hand on Paul's back as he just rolled his eyes.
"Dude."
"This whole time you've been alone with guys that I don't even trust." The blonde tried to argue as calmly as possible.
"And I never knew!"
"Are those not your friends?" Adeline was confused.
"They are." He grumbled. "Which is why I'm pissed. I know how they are."
"They've been fine. There's nothing to be freaking out about." She groaned. "Please just talk to me normally. I don't like your tone."
Taking a deep breath, Paul just scoffed. "Those idiots have crushes on you, you know that right?"
"They do?" She quirked a brow, trying to hide a smirk since she wanted to laugh out loud but the matters were unfortunately too serious for something like that.
"Unbelievable." He grumbled, noticing her subtle smirk that wasn't supposed to appear.
Adeline crossed her arms defensively, her eyes narrowing at him. "Seriously? Do you actually think I'd let them try something with me?"
Paul let out a frustrated sigh, his fingers running through his hair. "I'm not saying that? I just don't like that you didn't even tell me." His features were dull. "What happened to communication, Adeline?" His brow quirked as she just stayed silent.
"I'm your boyfriend, mind you."
"Paul, I get that you're upset, but you're missing the point."
He scoffed, crossing his arms. "Am I? Because it sounds like you've been spending way too much time with guys who—"
"—need my help," Adeline interrupted firmly. "I was asked because they're struggling, and I'm good at tutoring. It's not about them or you. It's about me trying to help people. Isn't that something you said you've always liked about me?"
Paul hesitated, his jaw clenched. "Of course, but—"
"But what?" Adeline pressed, her voice still calm, though her eyes were sharp. "You think I'd throw away what we have over a couple of tutoring sessions with two idiots I barely know? You think I'd let them cross a line? You know me better than that."
Paul's eyes darkened with frustration. "You don't get it. It's about how you didn't even think I deserved to know. You didn't tell me anything about spending all this time with Zane and Zak. Do you realize how that looks?"
Adeline stood her ground, but there was a flicker of hesitation in her eyes. "It's tutoring—nothing more."
He let out a sharp laugh, though there was no humor in it. "Nothing more? These guys aren't just some random people in our class. Zane and Zak—those two are almost as bad as me!" He complained.
"They are without a doubt always flirting with you, and don't act like you haven't noticed." He tried to stay calm. "Do you expect me to be okay with you spending hours with them after school without even mentioning it to me?"
She opened her mouth to reply but hesitated, and Paul seized the moment once again. "I know them. I know how they are. Zane hits on every girl he can, and Zak isn't any better."
Adeline's brows furrowed as she took a deep breath, clearly trying to keep her composure. "Maybe I shouldn't tell you things if this is how you're gonna react. You're blowing this up into something it isn't. They've been respectful—"
"Respectful?" Paul cut her off. "Adeline, they're not your friends. They're mine. And I know exactly how they talk about girls behind closed doors. If you think they're just there to learn statistics, you're an idiot."
Adeline's frustration boiled over, his sudden name calling getting the best of her. "You seriously think I'm that naïve? That I wouldn't notice if they were crossing a line?"
Paul's jaw clenched, his voice dropping to a low, intense tone. "It's not about you being naïve. It's about you trusting me enough to tell me what's going on, what if they did something and I just didn't know? Adeline, this is also just out of your own safety. They could hurt you."
"That's just insane. Why would you even say something like that." Adeline was taken aback.
"Because you never know! It's two of them against you, Adeline! I thought you were smart."
Adeline recoiled, stunned by his words. "You think I'm not aware of who I'm around? You think I don't know how to handle myself?"
"Do you hear yourself? It's not about you being able to handle yourself—I'm sure you can! This is about the fact that you have been putting yourself in situations where something could happen, and I wouldn't even know!"
Adeline's eyes narrowed, her voice icy. "You're acting like I'm some helpless idiot who doesn't know how to deal with people. Do you even hear yourself right now?"
Paul's frustration boiled over, his fists clenching. "I hear myself just fine. What I don't hear is you taking this seriously. I'm trying to protect you!" He scoffed.
"You're just not getting it. And I thought you were the smarter one between us two."
"Maybe because you're making something out of nothing!" Adeline snapped. "Nothing has happened, and I would like to believe it's gonna stay that way."
For a moment, neither of them spoke. The tension between them hung in the air like a dark cloud, suffocating any chance of reconciliation.
"Fine. If you're so sure I'm wrong, then just go ahead and go about your ways. I don't know what to say anymore." Paul's voice was low, gathering his things before he quickly upped and left the table.
With no other words left to say to her.
