✷ 032: Happy Birthday Adeline.
I CAN FIX HIM ! by KissLeclerc
December 17, 2022 # "No Dilly Dallying."
ADELINE WASNT REALLY A PARTIER. Which is why she wasn't throwing an extravagant celebration for her eighteenth birthday. She was obviously down to celebrate her friends or just attend parties with them-but, she was never one to throw one of her own.
Sitting at the island in her kitchen, she chatted with Joslyn and Genevieve who were preparing a homemade strawberry cake for her as they waited for the guys to arrive.
"Are you sure you guys don't want any help-"
"NO!" Gen pointed aggressively. "Stay seated, beautiful." She hummed. "Let us do this for you." Her smile was wide as the girl beside her poured the batter into two separate buttered cake pans.
"Princess treatment only." Joslyn glanced up, satisfied with her evened out pours. "Just sit still, look pretty." She winked, proceeding to lick off the batter residue from her thumbs.
Watching them happily as she sat in her seat, Adeline laughed as the two who almost just slipped and spilled everything everywhere in attempts to put the pans in the oven-she was more of a baker than those two combined, but she just wanted them to do what made them happy, and right now, it was making her a cake.
"Oh, I'll go get it." Adeline glanced at her phone after hearing knocks at the front door. "That might be Ollie." She quirked a brow.
"Please send him in here immediately because I cannot reach the powdered sugar." Joslyn huffed in annoyance as she glanced up at the highest part of the cabinet shelf.
"Will do, my sweets." The debate captain winked before she hopped off her seat, soon walking toward the front door of her house.
With a smile soon plastering on her face, Adeline was happily greeted by Ollie and a familiar brunette with curly hair.
"JAK-" She squealed, jumping in excitement before throwing her arms around him. "It's so good to see you!" She sighed in satisfaction, her levels of joy practically exploding since it's been almost been two years since she last saw him.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY." The boy laughed, hugging her tightly before she let go. "For you!" He handed over a pink envelope.
"Aw!! Thank you, Jak!" She laughed. "I shall open it later." Her smile was wide before it faltered, staring directly at the boy as she finally got a good look at him.
"My god-What did America do to you?!" Her tone was teasing. Jokingly frowning as she made an upset face.
"Wha?-Hey!" He said in a playful offense. "I got a girlfriend looking like this-Thank you very much."
"Right! So, when can I meet this Alyssa you speak so highly of?" The girl crossed her arms.
"She actually wanted to come with me on this trip, but her parents unfortunately said no." Jak sighed.
"I shall meet her when I move to America? How about that?" Adeline quirked a brow. "Well, if I do."
"Sounds good to me!" Jak shrugged, a small giggle escaping his lips before Adeline glanced at Ollie.
"Happy birthday!" He was next to greet her after giving the duo in front of him a second to chat. "Here you go." He handed over a gifted bag.
"Aw! You shouldn't have." She smiled, bringing him into a hug of his own before pulling away.
"I know. It was my mum's idea." Ollie sighed, earning a small scoff from Adeline in response.
"Jokes. It was also my idea." He smiled.
"Sure." Adeline scoffed before finally inviting the two in.
"Come on, Jos and Gen are in the kitchen." She shut the door behind her. "Which reminds me-your girlfriend is in need of some assistance." Her eyes darted to Ollie.
"Right-On it!" He was quick to find his way around her house, booking it straight for the kitchen.
Stopping for a brief moment to set down the gift bag and envelope on the coffee table that sat in the living room, Adeline soon turned to Jak and insisted he follow her to the kitchen too-especially since it is where the "party" was.
"JAK!!!" Genevieve immediately exclaimed, dropping everything she was doing as she and Joslyn quickly came around the counter to tackle the boy with hugs.
"I FORGOT YOU ARRIVED LAST NIGHT!" Joslyn laughed into their group embrace.
"Holy shit, do you age like 50 years faster in America?!" Gen looked at the boy with furrowed eyebrows.
"Does my scruff look that bad?!" He was getting insecure, rubbing his cheek with a subtle frown.
"You just had a baby face the last time we saw you. This... this is different." Joslyn was unable to stop staring at him.
"You've seen me on social media? I've posted pictures of myself-we've all facetimed?" The curly haired boy laughed.
"It's just different in person." Adeline smirked, continuing to make fun of him before eating a strawberry from a bowl.
"HEY!" Joslyn swatted the girl's hand away. "The big juicy ones are for the cake-eat these instead." She handed over the carton of remaining strawberries.
"Right..." The debate captain eyed her friend before a couple knocks followed by her ringing doorbell interrupted.
"Place your bets right now-Kimi or Paul."
"Kimi." Gen glanced up from her phone. "Only because he just texted me he's here." She laughed while Adeline let out a small groan as the other two boys snickered.
"Your lover will arrive shortly." Ollie smiled as Jak sent a wave of "OOOOOO's", causing the birthday girl to glare at the both of them.
"Text him the door is unlocked, I don't wanna get up." Adeline glanced at Gen before the girl nodded and did as she was instructed.
After a few short moments, the group of teenagers soon heard the front door open and close, followed by the jingling of car keys that got louder by the passing seconds.
"Ciao!" Kimi greeted, eventually smiling wider as he saw Jak, happily giving him a bro hug.
"Happy birthday, mate!" He soon turned to Adeline, happily giving her a friendly greeting.
"Thank you, thank you!" The girl laughed before he handed her an envelope of his own. "Hope you enjoy this.. Gen helped me." He said proudly.
"Thank you!" She said once again, giving him another side hug. "Can't wait to open!"
"It's beautiful, you're gonna love it." Gen winked before carrying on with her baking duties.
Continuing the late afternoon on as they all chatted in the kitchen, the group eventually migrated to the living room after Joslyn and Genevieve cleaned up the kitchen, leaving the now frosted cake to chill in the fridge.
Turning on the TV to specifically play music on Spotify, the group of teens chatted away with laughter as conversations filled the room.
The three boys sat sprawled out against the couch, eagerly catching up with one another. Jak shared about his time in America while Kimi and Ollie updated him on the latest news regarding their football club at school.
Meanwhile, Gen and Joslyn sat with Adeline, but the debate captain was sort of zoned out. She was too busy glancing around the room, her heart swelling with happiness at the sight of her friends gathered together once again-and all of them this time.
Almost.
Just as she was about to join in the conversation, the doorbell rang again, and she couldn't help but smile, knowing exactly who it was.
"Ohp! We all saw that smile right?" Joslyn began to instigate, causing Adeline to throw a pillow at her.
"Shut up." The debate captain laughed with a wide grin before getting up from her spot on a reclining chair. "Be right back." She straightened down her outfit.
"I expect the both of you to come straight back over here. No dilly dallying." Ollie quirked a brow, earning him an eye roll in response.
"You and Jos are the worst." She snickered. "Match made in heaven, honestly." Her words teased the two before she walked off and headed straight toward the front of her house.
Opening the door, Adeline was immediately greeted by Paul's familiar and warm smile, a large bouquet of flowers in his hand along with an assortment of other things.
"Oh my god-" Her jaw dropped at everything he had
A large stuffed animal poking out of an even larger gift bag as he held onto a green and red drink that he seemed to be struggling to keep in his grasp.
"For you." He handed it over to her.
"You're insane." She laughed as she invited him in, taking the beverage from him.
"Happy birthday." Paul smiled. Comfortably setting the gift bag down before pulling her in for a hug.
"Again. Insane." Adeline repeated her words before he lifted her off the floor-A squeal emitting from her lips as he held her carefully with the bouquet still in the grasp of his right hand, along with the drink that sat in her grip.
"Apologies, I like to spoil." His grin was playful as he looked down at her. "Get used to it." He shrugged with a smirk before dipping down to kiss her.
Laughing into their kisses, Adeline felt Paul's grip tighten by the second, causing butterflies to erupt all over. His hands, warm and firm, pressed gently into her lower back, pulling her closer as if he couldn't get enough of her.
The scent of his cologne enveloped her senses, making her feel dizzy with joy. Each touch sent electric tingles racing up her spine, and she could feel the steady beat of his heart through their embrace.
"EWWWWW!"
"AHHHH! SHRIEK."
Pulling away instantly, Paul rolled his eyes at the sounds of Gen and Jos from down the hallway. Their teasing gag noises echoed across, causing Adeline to suppress a laugh as she glanced at her boyfriend who now seemed to annoyed.
"Come on, sickos." Joslyn called out. "Since he's finally here, we're gonna cut the cake." She said with an inviting hand.
"Take your time though!-but don't take too long..." Gen smirked knowingly. "There's no rush at all..."
"Right..." Adeline nodded.
"Riiiiight..." Joslyn made it even more awkward. "Well! We'll leave you to it!" She smiled. "Proceed whatever it was you guys were doing..." Her devious grin was wide as she did what she does best.
Instigate.
"Yeah, we'll be in the kitchen!" Gen exclaimed before wrapping a hand around Joslyn's forearm. "Come on." She yanked the girl away with her. Two squeals in the distance soon following after.
Laughing in disbelief, Adeline glanced back at Paul. Her cheeks heated up instantly as she briefly had a sense of realization that this was now a reality.
Her and Paul, Paul and Her.
"Come on," She took his hand as he picked the gift bag back up, "Lets go." Her wide smile was contagious, causing him to mirror the same expression in no time.
Leaving her matcha strawberry beverage and the large bag in the living room like the other gifts, the two continued to walk into the kitchen where she let Paul go ahead and greet the guys.
"We are so debriefing tonight because what the hell was that." Joslyn and Genevieve were quick to gossip in hushed whispers once they got a few short minutes of privacy with Adeline.
Well, it wasn't really private as the guys were like ten feet away in the kitchen-but they tried.
"You guys kiss as if it's official. Hurry up already." Gen groaned.
Oh.
Right...
They don't know yet. Oops.
Soon, guys!
Shaking away her thoughts, Adeline just smiled and nodded, proceeding to open a cabinet below the sink to retrieve a vase for her bouquet. "Getting there." She whispered. Causing her two friends to glance at each other with excited smiles.
"Paul Aron, give me your game card." Joslyn mumbled to herself. "How were you, of all people, the one to steal Adeline Huang's heart." She sighed with longing.
"Oh, you need to stop." The debate captain laughed, causing their four other friends to glance at their altercation.
"What's so funny?" Ollie quirked a brow. "Because Joslyn is not that funny."
"Dude." His girlfriend furrowed her eyebrows.
"You guys are so loving..." Jak switched looks between the two, glancing at them back and forth.
"Right! Well-Cake is ready!..." Gen spoke up after placing the 1 and 8 candles on top of the dessert.
"Wait! Hold." Joslyn held a finger up to pause. "Be right back, I need to grab something." She laughed before running off, soon coming back with a party store bag.
"Everyone, put one on." She passed out strawberry themed party hats before handing over a birthday tiara to Adeline, her to grin.
"You're the cutest ever." The birthday girl pouted with a suppressed smile. "Thank you, my sweets." She laughed, happily putting her tiara on as everyone was now wearing cone hats in honor of her.
Continuing to bring the cake to her kitchen table, they insisted Adeline take the seat at the head. Recording this moment with a bunch of laughs, they gathered around to sing their own very spirited rendition of "Happy Birthday."
Spirited meaning Kimi and Ollie were somehow off key and off beat.
Coming to the end of the tune, Adeline took a brief moment to make a wish before blowing out her candles, cheers and claps soon emitting from her friends after the flames dispersed.
Adeline leaned back with a bright smile, feeling the warmth of their company. The cake, adorned with strawberries and a light layer of frosting, sat proudly on the table, waiting to be enjoyed.
As tradition dictated among their friend group, the next few seconds or so, were inevitable.
A bit of playful mischief, if you will.
Ollie, Kimi, Jak, and Paul exchanged devious glances that Adeline couldn't quite decipher before they simultaneously lunged towards her with the intent to playfully smear a bit of cake on her face-or! Shove her face into the cake.
However, in the chaotic attempt to do so, Adeline instinctively dodged, grabbing a handful of the dessert and smacking it on Jak and Ollie's face instead, causing the duo to get some on Kimi since he was laughing at their failure.
"HAHA!" She clapped, feeling victorious. The three boys in front of her smirking knowingly as they tried to wipe off the frosting and cake bits from their face.
But after celebrating her victory way too soon, Paul came in from behind and smeared cake all over her face with both of his hands. Her jaw dropping at the sudden sneak attack, with his giggles jingling in her ears.
"You ASS?!" Adeline scoffed. A competitive laugh soon escaping her lips before she went ahead and grabbed another handful of cake to get him back with.
Catching her hand/ with a reflex, the blonde was now briefly wrestling with the girl's arms as he did his best to avoid getting a cake smack to the face of his own.
"I'll have you guys know we worked hard on that cake." Gen said with playful disappointment as she and Joslyn had to watch the five of their friends ruin their beautifully made cake.
"Good thing we made two then." Joslyn said with a relieved sigh.
