I CAN FIX HIM ! by KissLeclerc
December 2, 2022 # "Unfortunately, For Me."

AFTER AN EVENTFUL GO KARTING SESSION, Adeline and Paul playfully argued over who was the best, throwing insults and teases back and forth as they debriefed about the last hour and a half.

"I'm just better at you in everything.." Adeline smiled, her hand holding onto Paul's forearm as they walked through the parking lot.

"I literally let you win the entire time." The blonde scoffed, with a knowing smirk as he briefly glanced down at the girl beside him.

"Wow! Who knew you could be such a gentleman?" Adeline laughed, nudging him lightly with her shoulder.

Paul rolled his eyes, but the smile on his face was undeniable. "I am a gentleman! A ladies man, if you will."

"Oh, right!" Adeline retorted, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "A ladies man is definitely a way to put it."

"Come on." The blonde scoffed, a smirk still painted across his face. "I'm not like that anymore."

The girl shook her head with a laugh. "I know." She admitted. "Never thought I'd see the day, really."

"Oh, shut up." Paul attempted to shrug her hand off but after saying what she said, her grip on his forearm tightened. Giggling as she just loved teasing him.

"Should I just go back to my old ways then?" He joked, knowing it would slightly tick her off-and it did.

Finally letting go of him, Adeline crossed her arms and scoffed in irritation. "Not funny! Didn't laugh." Sighin dramatically, her eyes were still full of affection. "You're annoying, you know that?"

Paul just grinned down at her. "And yet, here you are, putting up with me."

"Whatever," She said, shaking her head with a mock frown. "Someone has to do it, at least."

Paul reached out to gently uncross her arms and take her hand. "And you do a good job." He laughed.

"Flattery will get you nowhere." Adeline rolled her eyes but didn't pull away, smiling to herself as they continued walking.

"Really?" Paul glanced at her, quirking a brow. "I thought it was working just fine."

"It's failing quite miserable, matter of fact!." Adeline replied, though her smile betrayed her tough act.

Finally reaching Paul's car, the blonde opened the door for her. Sliding into the passenger's seat, she briefly grinned, before he closed the door, soon getting into the drivers side once he walked around.

Their original plan was to get dinner, but neither of them were too hungry for a sit down type of thing so they agreed to just getting ice cream-of course, Paul's treat.

Grabbing aux, Adeline went ahead and of course played her Daniel Caesar playlist-songs from his Freudian album playing back to back, and it felt beautiful.

Singing along together, they drove through the streets as evening fell, Paul's hand finding Adeline's as he drove with only one on the steering wheel.

The ice cream parlor was a quaint little spot with pastel-colored walls and retro decor. Adeline and Paul stepped inside, the cool air a welcome contrast to the warmth of the evening. The scent of freshly made waffle cones and a myriad of ice cream flavors filled the air, creating a comforting and inviting atmosphere.

Paul held the door open for Adeline, who stepped in with a playful curtsy. "Thank you, gorgeous." She said with a playful wink, eliciting a chuckle from Paul.

They stood in line, perusing the array of flavors behind the glass. Paul leaned down to whisper in her ear, "You know, next time, I won't let you win." Referring back to the go-karting rink.

Earning a small scoff from her as she was still shocked he was going on about her many karting victories, Adeline looked up at him, her eyes shining with amusement. "We'll see about that. Maybe I'll just be even better."

Paul laughed, shaking his head. "Always so competitive."

"Can you blame me?" Adeline replied, her smile softening as she looked at him.

Finally getting their turn, the couple ordered their ice creams and soon found a cozy spot by the window, sitting side by side. Handing over her obvious strawberry cone, Paul smiled as she took it with a grateful look.

"Thank you," She said, going straight for a lick. "Oh, yeah. This is good." Her voice sounding content.

"Dinner of champions," He replied, taking a bite of his own double chocolate cone.

Sitting in a comfortable silence for a moment, enjoying their ice cream and each other's company. The evening had turned cool, but the warmth between them was undeniable.

"You know," Adeline said softly, "No matter what happens, I'm really glad we're doing this. Spending time together like this."

Paul's expression softened, and he nodded. "Sometimes I can't believe it actually happened-you know? Us..."

"I can't believe it either." Adeline chuckled nervously. "Like no offense, but like... you of all people." Adeline chuckled nervously.

"None taken." Paul laughed. "I never thought I even had a shot with you."

"Trust me... me neither." She teased as he let out another playful eye roll.

"Want to try?" Paul changed the subject and offered some of his cone as she just quirked a brow at him. "Are you just trying to get some of mine?" She asked.

"Maybe..." He trailed off before she laughed, soon trading off their cones to try each other's.

As they continued to swap bites of ice cream, Adeline and Paul found themselves immersed in a lively debate over whose chosen flavor was superior.

Adeline, with her strawberry cone, insisted hers was the epitome of fruity delight, each bite bursting with fresh sweetness. Paul, on the other hand, defended his double chocolate cone passionately, claiming its rich, creamy texture and deep cocoa flavor made it the undisputed champion of desserts.

"Wait-You got something on your nose-" Adeline laughed, reaching over for a napkin on the table.

Paul raised an eyebrow, looking confused. "Where?"

"Here, I got you," The debate captain smirked, soon wiping the spot off with a napkin. Their faces were close, and for a moment, she felt her heart skip a beat.

"Thanka," Paul smiled, his voice softer now.

"Great so, I have to put up with you and clean up after you too." Adeline teased, her tone light but her eyes conveying something deeper.

"A lot to take care off-My apologies." Paul's gaze held hers for a moment longer before he leaned back with a grin.

Finishing their ice cream, the two decided to take a brief walk along the lit up alleyways and shops that were closing down for the evening nearby. The sky was near complete sundown, painted in hues of blue and purple as the sun set, casting a subtle glow over everything. Paul took Adeline's hand, their fingers intertwining naturally.

As they strolled, Adeline glanced at him. "You know, I've been thinking."

"About what?" Paul asked, his thumb gently stroking the back of her hand.

"About everything," She said, her voice a little hesitant. "I mean, we've been playing around this for a little bit.. kinda?"

Paul stopped walking, turning to face her. "Yeah, we have."

"I like you, Paul. A lot," Adeline admitted, looking up at him. "But I don't know-I'm up for it, as long as you are and-"

"Yes." The blonde replied too fast. "Wait-finish what you were gonna say?... sorry." He said nervously. "I got carried away honestly."

"Oh-I was gonna say we should stop." Her eyebrow quirked.

"Oh."

"No, I'm kidding!" Adeline's face lit up as she was quick to stop her joke, laughing aloud at his reaction. Bringing him into a brief hug, she giggled into his chest as she felt bad for even going there.

"You're not funny." Paul scoffed, trying to catch his breath that went away for a brief moment.

"Okay, but!" The girl slowly pulled back. "What I was gonna say." She paused. "As long as you are up for it-I don't mind..."

"... Being together for real."

Paul blinked, momentarily taken aback by Adeline's candid admission. His mind raced, replaying her words and the warmth in her eyes as she looked at him. It was a moment he had imagined but never quite dared to believe would happen.

"As long as I'm up for it?" Paul repeated, his voice a mix of disbelief and hopeful anticipation. He couldn't deny the surge of joy and nervousness that swept through him.

Adeline nodded, her fingers intertwining more firmly with his. "Yeah... if you feel the same way... about us-I know it feels really soon but I kinda... don't care.. I've known you for years and this time spent together has been nice."

"What about when you get into college? Everything after that?" He questioned, feeling a little hesitant but still completely up for it since he truly did want nothing more than just this.

"I realized, that'll be a problem for future me to worry about." She laughed. "Hate to admit it but, right now, all I've been enjoying is experiencing life with you, and it's been perfect."

"So you want to be with me?" Paul asked gently.

Looking around in confusion, Adeline furrowed her eyebrows as she looked at him. "Well, I just basically said that, dingus." She laughed in his face as he smiled, rolling his eyes back before bringing her in closer by the waist.

"Do you want to be with me though?" She asked, looking dead straight into his eyes.

"I do," Paul replied without hesitation, his gaze soft but sincere. "I really do."

Adeline smiled, her heart swelling with happiness at Paul's heartfelt confirmation. She leaned in closer, resting her forehead against his, their breaths mingling in the quiet moment between them.

Paul felt a rush of happiness, his smile evident as he looked down at her-something he couldn't not do when looking into the girl's eyes. "So, are we doing this? Like, officially?"

"Officially," Adeline confirmed before he immediately brought her into a tight embrace.

Laughing into each other's arms, Paul couldn't help but lift her off the ground, and spin Adeline around, she giggled with delight, the sound bubbling up from deep within her as Paul spun her around.

She clung to him, feeling a rush of joy and exhilaration as they held each other close.. "YES!" He exclaimed in excitement before setting her back down.

"Officially." She repeated with a wide smile, her eyes shining with joy as she looked up at him. "I can't believe that this is real."

Paul grinned back at her, his heart swelling with affection. "Believe it," He murmured, his voice tender. "Because I'm your boyfriend now."

"Unfortunately." She playfully groaned as he just sighed.

Paul shook his head in mock disappointment. "Unfortunately?-ouch." He teased, his tone light and playful.

Adeline feigned a dramatic sigh, her hand resting lightly on his arm. "I guess I'll just have to suffer being your girlfriend," She replied, her eyes dancing with amusement.

"You're stuck with me for good," Paul said with a grin, squeezing her hand gently. "But at least I'm irresistible."

She rolled her eyes playfully. "Okayy.." She retorted, though her smile betrayed her teasing tone. "Irresistible might be a stretch-I still get sick of you, trust me."

Paul chuckled, pulling her closer as they walked down the quiet streets, the evening settling around them like a comfortable blanket. "Sick of me already? We haven't even hit the one-hour mark of officially dating."

Adeline grinned up at him, her gaze softening. "I've been sick of you since the moment I had the displeasure of meeting you." She teased.

"And here I thought you at least liked me a little bit."

Her laugh echoed through the quiet and dimly lit shopping alley, her eyes gleaming with affection. "Oh, I do! Despite your many flaws."

"Flaws?" He raised an eyebrow, pretending to be offended. "I'll have you know, my flaws are what make me charming."

"Charming?" Adeline laughed, feeling it within her to continue teasing him some more. "Is that what we're calling it now?"

"Oh, shut up!" Paul said through a scoff, lightly pushing her with his shoulder before squeezing her hand gently as they continued their leisurely stroll.

"Best girlfriend in the world or what?" She asked, tapping her finger on her chin for an emphasis at her joke thinking.

"The worst actually-and it's barely even been 10 minutes." The blonde sighed, earning him a shoulder shove of his own, causing the both of them to laugh.

As they walked in a comfortable silence for a moment, they soaked in the joy of their newfound relationship. Adeline glanced up at Paul, her heart feeling light and full at the same time.

"Okay so-" Adeline laughed, unable to speak due to the silly idea she had thought of in her head. "Since I beat you multiple times on the karting track..." She paused.

"Do I get a reward?" Her eyebrow quirked, suppressing a laugh as she couldn't take herself seriously, but they both knew what she was aiming for.

Slowing their pace, coming to a stop under a streetlight, Paul was quick to face her, his gaze tender as he cupped her cheek gently with one hand. Leaning in, he closed the distance between them, his lips meeting hers in a sweet, lingering kiss.

It was a kiss filled with promise and affection, a silent vow of everything they felt for each other. Adeline melted into the kiss, her hand finding its way to Paul's chest, fingers curling into the fabric of his shirt.

When they finally pulled back, both of them were smiling, their foreheads resting together as they caught their breath. "Definitely a good reward." Adeline murmured, her voice filled with contentment.

Paul chuckled softly, brushing his thumb across her cheek. "I take that as a compliment."

They stood there for a moment longer, enjoying the quiet intimacy of the night. Eventually, Paul broke the silence, his voice soft but sure. "So, being official now... How does it feel?"

Adeline leaned back slightly to look up at him, her eyes shining with happiness. "It feels... right. Really right."

"Good," He replied, a smile tugging at his lips. "Because I plan on making you feel this way for a long time."

Adeline's heart skipped a beat at his words, warmth spreading through her chest. She reached up to kiss him again, a tender gesture filled with unspoken promises and the beginnings of something beautiful.

They were now happy, and that's all that mattered.
