✷ 016: Fancy Dinner.

I CAN FIX HIM ! by KissLeclerc
September 16, 2022 # "That's Not Fair."

THE MOMENT ADELINE STEPPED through her bedroom door, she couldn't wait to free herself from the suffocating grip of her school uniform. She was quick to change into her favorite set of soft, comfortable pajamas, already feeling relieved from her burst of anger earlier.

With a content sigh, she sank into her bed, the hours of her early exhaustion overwhelming her. Sleep claimed the girl's body almost instantly and her plan to call Jak slipped away as she drifted off into a deep, dreamless slumber.

But of course, after a few hours of a well needed nap, she ended up calling him to relieve some stress and nerves once again. Confiding in Jak was something Adeline did when she didn't want to seek out advice from Joslyn or Genevieve. Surprisingly, it wasn't Ollie that was the first boy of the group she'd go to, and instead, it was Jak.

"Well, I think you should go." The boy insisted as he was sat through the other side of the FaceTime, Adeline laying flat out across her white duvet. "Why should I?" She mumbled into her bed sheets as they've been calling for nearly an hour now.

"Free food." The boy snickered as she looked up to scoff in response. "Mmm, I don't know. Whatever restaurant Paul sent in the groupchat seems a little too fancy for my liking."

"So?"

"I don't even have the right attire at the moment. All my fancy wear... barely fits anymore." She replied. An annoyed look on her face as she explained her reasoning.

"That sucks. Because I remember my mom and dad took me to that place for my 13th birthday." Jak mentioned. "Their strawberry cheesecake was heavenly." He smiled wide.

"Oh. Don't do this to me." She groaned. "Ugh. Now I HAVE to go." Her palm was quick to cover her face. "Why would you say that to me."

"Because I knew it would get you to go." Jak had a teasing tone. "Go have fun! Enjoy the time you get to have with them."

"Ohhhh-Don't make me sad, Carl." Adeline gasped.

"If you won't go for you, at least go for me. It sounds like fun and I wish I could be there." He sighed.

"Oh! Right. So, I need you dead." She playfully said before her expression fell into a small frown. "But. I guess, I'll go." Her statement was followed by a sigh.

"YES!" The boy cheered happily. "You'll have fun! I know you will."

"Yeah, yeah." Adeline scoffed. "But, now you have to help me find an outfit." She got out of bed and headed straight to her closet. "What time is it?-Wait don't answer that." The girl stopped herself from talking as she remembered the time difference.

"Almost 5:00 for you." Jak still answered.

"Oh! Thank you." She smiled before opening her wardrobe doors. "What color should I wear?"

"Black... like you usually do." The boy mumbled as he propped his phone up against something, and continued tending to whatever game he was playing moments before Adeline had called him earlier.

"Riiight. Yeah, don't sound so excited." She mumbled.

"You asked, so I answered!" He snickered, his eyes glued to what seemed to be his monitors.

Shuffling through her closet, Adeline found two dresses that seemed most suitable for the fancy dinner attire that Paul had texted the groupchat to wear. Analyzing both dresses, she switched between them as she stared in the mirror and tried to decide which to settle for, before asking Jak.

"Which one?" She questioned as he seemed to have paused his game momentarily and stared intently at the options.

"The one on the right." Jak soon answered with a smile before continuing with whatever he was doing.

Happy with his choice as it was the dress she was aiming for anyways, Adeline stored away the other dress as she officially settled for a black long sleeve dress that sat off the shoulder and cut off at her mid thigh.

"Okay. I'm gonna get ready." Adeline picked up her phone and looked into the call as she let Jak know. "You can continue whatever you're doing, I'll let you go."

"Do you want to go? You don't have to." Jak shrugged.

"I'm gonna listen to music while I get ready, it's fine." She smiled as he picked up his phone and nodded.

"Alright. Hope you have fun! I miss you guys." The curly haired boy sighed as she subtly frowned.

"We shall leave an empty seat open in honor of you."

"I appreciate it very much." He laughed. "Talk to you later!" Jak waved.

"Love you, Carlton." Adeline smiled. "Love you too, Ads. I hope you punch that Vivienne chick soon. And make sure to send the fight video to me."

"Yeah, yeah. Whatever you want." She laughed before the two bid each other another goodbye and hung up.

Taking a deep breath as she ran a hand through her hair, Adeline proceeded to go ahead and walk toward her dresser to pull out a pair of black fleece lined tights to pair with the dress she had picked out.

Proceeding to walk into her connecting bathroom, the girl began getting ready for the fancy dinner Paul had in store for the friend group. She began her routine, carefully applying makeup and styling her hair, taking her time to ensure every detail was just right.

Her phone shuffled through her favorite album that sat dear to her heart; Freudian by Daniel Caesar. The familiar tune of "Best Part" playing aimlessly as she applied the final touches of her mascara.

"If life is a movie-then you're the best paaarrt." She sang to herself before an interruption blared through the speaker of her phone. A call from Joslyn.

"What." Adeline quickly answered in irritation.

"You almost ready? Joslyn and I are almost at yours." She recognized the voice of Ollie instead of Jos.

"Uhh-" The girl glanced down at her pajama ridden body. "Let me slip into my clothes and I'll be done shortly! Let yourselves in if you want."

"PERFECT! I have to potty." Joslyn's voice soon spoke out. "May I?"

"Go for it. Just don't forget to wipe the seat, nasty ass." Adeline snickered.

"YOU BITCH-"

"Ta, ta!" She quickly hung up and laughed to herself.

As her phone soon went back to playing music, Adeline quickly walked out of her bathroom and began to change into her outfit. Slipping on her tights, she followed after with the dress right until she struggled with the zipper and decided to have Joslyn do it when she and Ollie arrived.

Finishing her look with more fancy jewelry choices, she clasped on a Chanel necklace that her mom had given her for her sixteenth birthday and soon slipped on some pointed heels that brought the entire black look together.

Touching up her styled half up and half down hair do, Adeline grabbed her small purse, throwing in some last minute essentials like lip gloss and emergency cash before quickly spritzing herself with strawberry scented perfume and finally deemed herself ready.

"Finally." Ollie stood up from leaning against the living room couch as she made her way down the stairs. "Took you long enough."

"What-How long have you guys been here?" The girl questioned.

"Not long." Joslyn scoffed before she immediately read the scenario and went behind Adeline to zip up the remainder of her dress. "Thank you my sweetness." She winked.

"Are you ready?" The brunette boy questioned as he shoved his hands in his fancy pant pockets and stood there impatiently.

"Did Jos even pee yet?"

"Yes, she did, now are you ready?" He asked once again.

"Literally drop the attitude." Adeline furrowed her brows as his cold demeanor was quick to soften. "But, yes. I'm ready."

Proceeding to exit her house, Adeline was sure to lock her door before she noticed Joslyn struggling to get down the porch stairs, soon coming to her assistance and helping her.

"These heels are death traps." Joslyn mumbled.

"You look hot though." Adeline winked as she admired the red and black ensemble her friend had on. "Was this color on purpose?" She quirked a brow, knowingly.

"I need you six feet under-But, yes." She gritted through her teeth.

After getting into Ollie's car, Adeline settled into the back seat, retreating into a dissociative state while Ollie and Joslyn chatted in the front about topics she couldn't care less about. The drive was relatively short, though city traffic added a few extra minutes to their journey.

As the evening descended, casting the city in darkness, Ollie finally parked the car. He stepped out first, waiting for Adeline and Joslyn to follow. The two girls emerged, linking arms as they walked towards the restaurant entrance, a host quickly approaching them as they entered.

"For Aron?" Ollie spoke up. The host quickly nodding before signaling for the teenagers to follow.

"No sign of Vivienne, thank god." Joslyn mumbled as she caught sight of the others already sat at a table while Adeline snickered.

"Ohhhhh-Adeline, I need you." Genevieve stood up to greet her. "On second thought! I also need you, Jos! I need the both of you!" She smiled, bringing her two friends into a quick group hug.

"Look at you though." Joslyn gawked. "Your boobs look good." She winked as Adeline nodded in agreement.

"Okay, okay, back away." Kimi overheard and stepped in, pulling his girlfriend away as the other two rolled their eyes with a disgusted face.

After their small greetings and compliments to one another for cleaning up well, Joslyn took a sweet beside Genevieve who was also beside Kimi. Ollie took the seat across from her as Adeline soon sat next to him, with Paul on her other side.

"Hi.." Paul said to her as she had yet to acknowledge him.

"Oh, Hi." Adeline turned to glance at him, her arm propped on the table with her chin rested in her palm.

"Are you okay?" He quirked a brow as he was confused about her behavior. The last time the two talked was earlier that morning where they exchanged very kind words and were getting along well in Vettel's classroom.

"Fine." She shrugged with a small and subtle grin before turning her attention back to Ollie and Joslyn.

"Am I late?" Vivienne soon appeared. The voice making Adeline's back straighten and shoot her eyes to where the sound came from.

"Ah, there you are." Paul smiled before standing up to place a kiss on her cheek and allowing her to take his seat before he pulled up a chair of his own to sit in at the edge of the table.

Shocked at the girl who was also wearing a completely black outfit beside her, Adeline glanced at Ollie and Joslyn in shock before her eyes trailed to Gen and Kimi with the same expression.

With the table falling silent, Genevieve played with the bracelets on her wrists before Paul cleared his throat.

"I didn't say she was coming because I knew you guys wouldn't come."

"Hmmm! Paul have you ever thought about why that's the case?" Joslyn sarcastically smiled and leaned forward. Staring at the blonde with complete irritation before glaring at Vivienne. "Ohhh! Right let me answer that for you." She cleared her throat and looked straight into the American's eyes.

"We don't fucking like you." She smiled as Adeline tried to suppress a laugh, but immediately failing.

"Oh! Well lucky for me, your opinion doesn't matter to me." Vivienne scoffed.

"Hm try all five of our opinions..." Gen quirked a brow as Paul shot both her and Joslyn glares. "Then maybe it will matter."

"I don't know what I did to deserve this but, I'll be sure to cry about all of it later." The American girl shrugged with a smug look on her face.

"Hi, Adeline!" She turned to the girl beside her. "How've you been?" Her voice more condescending than ever. A pitying pout at her lips following after.

"Was doing fine until you opened your mouth." She smiled.

"Real classy." Vivienne scoffed.

"Yeah, like you know anything about that." Adeline straightened her posture and refused eye contact.

"Ciao! I'm Gabi and I'll be your waiter today. May I get you all started with some drinks?" A server abruptly came by. The tension at the table very sharp.

"Uhh-" Paul panicked and glanced at the waiter. "I think we'll all start with some waters-But do you guys want anything besides that?" He looked at his friends.

"Coke with a lemon slice." Kimi raised his hand as the others nodded their head. "Yeah. The usual." Ollie smiled as Paul seemed to be easing down a bit.

"And I guess we'll all have a coke with lemon." He glanced back at Gabi.

"Oh no! I'll have a hot tea please. Black?" Vivienne spoke up as the others seemed to roll their eyes at her. Adeline subtly scooting her chair further and further away, slowly invading Ollie's personal space but he couldn't care less.

"Okay." Gabi nodded. "7 waters, 6 cokes with lemon, and a hot black tea?" He looked around the table for clarification as everyone nodded. "Perfect." The waiter smiled. "Will be back with those in a second."

Turning on his heel and leaving, Adeline tried her best to ignore the cockroach beside her as Paul seemed to be annoyed with all of his friend's behavior.

"How was practice?" Adeline asked aloud, glancing at Kimi and Ollie while leaving Paul out of the equation.

"It wasn't really practice, it was just an informative meeting the team had to attend." Paul spoke up, receiving an irritated glance from everyone as he was offended by the looks.

"Yeah, we had to mingle with new guys who wanted to join the team." Ollie added on.

"Wanna tell them about Nikola?" Kimi snickered to himself as Ollie and Paul groaned in annoyance.

"Who-" Joslyn cringed.

"This kid that's in year 9. Absolutely cringe." Paul explained. "He and his friend made a TikTok in the middle of it all, so dumb." He shook his head as the others laughed.

"I've got the waters!" Gabi soon reappeared with a large platter of drinks, handing around the iced cold cups before moving onto the cokes with lemon.

"And your freshly brewed tea." He carefully placed a tea pot in front of Vivienne with a small tea cup.

"Thank you." Ollie was quick to smile at the waiter as he finished handing out drinks.

"Course! And are you guys ready to order?" The boy
asked.

"Ehhh... Maybe a few more minutes?" Paul requested as the teens seemed to forget to glimpse at the menus in front of them.

"Got it, I'll be back!" Gabi held a thumbs up before leaving the group of teenagers be.

"Hmm.. Ads-What are you gonna get?" Gen looked up from her menu and glanced at her friend.

"I think I'm gonna-AHHHH!" Adeline was in the middle of answering when she soon felt a burning sensation on her thigh, causing her to wince in pain out loud which received glances from all around the restaurant.

"FUCK!?" She covered her mouth to suppress more painful yelps as Ollie was quick to unwrap a cloth napkin to wipe down the spilled beverage on her legs.

"Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry." Vivienne held a hand to her mouth.

"What happened!?" Joslyn stood up to see what that was.

"My tea accidentally spilled!-"

"You did that on PURPOSE?" Adeline cut her off as her leg still burned in pain. "Addie-It was an accident!" Paul was quick to defend the girl.

"Oh. Please, go fuck yourself." She scoffed in disbelief, practically twitching in pure anger as she fought every urge to grab the pot of tea and splash it in Vivienne's face in hopes of it burning her flesh off.

Which is what the burning sensation in her thighs felt like.

"I'm so sorry Adeline-Really, I am."

"I want to make one fucking thing clear." Adeline turned to Vivienne. "I truly hate your guts." She kept it short before throwing her napkin at the table to stand up and leave with not another word.

Quickly heading straight towards the exit, Adeline fought back tears of pain as her legs felt raw and as if they were blistering. She pulled out her phone to dial an Uber or literally anyone to get home.

"Adeline!" She heard her name, fully expecting Ollie and Joslyn so they could leave with her but it was Paul.

"Not a step closer, I will fucking kill you." She kept her distance as she tried to get ahold of her mom on the phone.

"Can you come back inside? Vivienne is sor-"

"One more fucking thing about that girl and we are no longer friends. And I'm so dead serious." Adeline said coldly as her mom didn't answer. The voicemail box causing her to aggressively pull the phone away from her ear.

"Adeline, it was an accident." Paul stepped closer as she took a step back.

"No the hell it wasn't!" She argued. "Are you fucking braindead?" Adeline was at a loss of words. "Do you see these fucking bumps?" She pointed at her tights. "IM PRACTICALLY BLISTERING?"

"Addie, come on! She didn't do it on purpose! Why would she do that when she wants to be civil?"

"Yeah, don't ever fucking talk to me again. I'm done with you." Adeline laughed in his face. "I can't believe you're genuinely defending that freak right now."

"She's my girlfriend! Of course I would!" Paul argued as Adeline was immediately taken aback. "That's why I wanted to have this dinner. So we could all get along and I could tell you guys."

"Two fucking weeks, Paul." She laughed in his face. "Two fucking weeks over a lifelong friendship?"

"Are you seriously making me choose?!" He scoffed.

"It shouldn't even be a choice when there's only one right answer!!" Adeline shot back.

"That's not fair." Paul laughed in disbelief.

"I gave Vivienne another shot, Paul." She took a step closer with an angered expression. "I did for you! Because you're my friend!" She sarcastically grinned, not at all enjoying this argument at all.

"But she's been nothing but an absolute pain in my ass, she clearly doesn't fucking like me back, and now this?" Adeline pointed at her legs. "Yeah, I'm out of fucks and chances to give this girl." She shrugged. "I don't like her, and I don't ever see the day where I would."

"Do you want me to break up with her? Is that what you're insinuating?!"

"Date whoever the hell you want! I don't fucking care! I just don't want to be anywhere near or apart of it." Adeline scoffed. "Especially with that nightmare you call a fucking girlfriend."

"That isn't fair?!" Paul was at a loss of words.

"And that's too fucking bad."
