I CAN FIX HIM ! by KissLeclerc
September 12, 2022 # "And We're Back."

IT WAS JUST ANOTHER normal school morning. Adeline's first period of the day being her usual free study hall. Truthfully, the girl could always just sleep in and arrive to school later on but she preferred to start her day early where she'd reward herself to a homemade iced strawberry matcha latte.

Sitting in a secluded corner of the library, she skimmed her notes and continuously clicked through her laptop as she prepared for the first debate meeting of the school year, which was at the end of this newly started week.

There was both a club and a team. The club was filled with students who had an interest in the hobby, but didn't have the courage to participate in the actual competitive part, which was the team.

Adeline, serving as captain and president of both organizations, was renowned for being an intellectual smart-ass, and people knew that if they were to ever get in a verbal argument with her, she'd actually devour them to shreds.

Although her friends were never that interested in joining the Debate Team, they still came around and supported her at competitions.

The previous year held an unforgettable moment for her. The never ending love and support she was showered with, following her first-place victory in nationals became a cherished memory, engraved in her heart forever.

It was moments like those that made her incredibly grateful for the people that surrounded her.

"God damnit." She mumbled to herself, frustrated at the slow school wifi as her screen wasn't loading.

"Talking to yourself now?" Ollie's voice interrupted her thoughts, quickly shooting her head up to see both him and Paul standing in front of her table.

"Don't you have a statistics class to be rotting in right now?" She said in confusion. The two boys soon taking the vacant seats in front of her.

"Switched it with my afternoon study hall." Ollie replied with a knowing smirk as Adeline gave him a glare of realization.

"You didn't..."

"I did!" He smiled. "Now our schedules are identical!"

"I'm gonna kill you. Like actually." She huffed in annoyance before glancing at Paul. "What class do you even have right now?-"

"Woodshop." The blonde replied. "With Kimi. But I didn't wanna go." He said through a small smirk. Pulling out a laptop from his bag. "I actually might switch it so I can have study hall this period."

"God, please don't." Adeline grumbled.

"And this way, you can help us do our school work in the morning!" He exclaimed sarcastically as she exchanged irritated glances at the both of them.

"I'd rather skin myself alive." The girl replied before taking out her headphones. "You both are 18 and grown. I'm not doing your homework for you anymore."

"But why..." Ollie sighed as she just gave him a glare of silence, proceeding to put on her headphones and start listening to her favorite artist; Daniel Caesar.

"Hey Adeline..."

"Adeline..."

"Adeline..."

"Addy..."

"Psssst!"

"Ads."

"Hey! Adeline-"

"I have a crocheting needle in my bag and I am not afraid to slam it into your throats." The girl snapped in a low whisper, glaring at the two immature boys in front of her.

"So, do you have a pen?" Paul ignored her initial statement.

"I-" Adeline stared at him in utter disbelief before rolling her eyes and grabbing her pencil bag to toss at him. "Put it back when you're done." Her expression was dead serious as he gave an understanding nod.

"What are you working on?" Ollie asked as he leaned forward on the table, awaiting her answer with anticipation.

"Debate stuff." She replied briefly. "There's a lunch meeting on Friday."

"Oh, yeah!" Paul chimed in. "Vivienne said she saw something about that on the bulletin. She's going." He smiled as Adeline felt herself twitch in irritation.

"Awesome!-"

"We would go to support you and your efforts-"

"You mean sit in the far back and play with your food?" Adeline corrected him as he just pursed his lips.

"Right..." He cleared his throat.

"We've got football duties." Ollie finished Paul's initial statement making Adeline give an understanding nod.

"Wait, do remind me when your first game is..." She quirked a brow. "Next Wednesday." Paul smiled as she kept that locked in her mind.

"Got it." She replied with a nod. "Away or at home?"

"Home!"

"Beautiful."

"And your first competition?"

"Three Friday's from now." She mumbled, looking down at her the pile of work in front of her. "So September 30th."

"Noted." Ollie grinned. "Can't wait to hear you yap like a smart ass for two hours."

"You know you guys don't have to go." Adeline quirked a brow. "I know how boring my debates can get."

"Trust me when I say we find the joy in all of it." The brunette shrugged. "Most of the time we're just making fun of the other school." He snickered as she bit down a laugh. "But also we are cheering for you too!"

"It's things like this that make it impossible to hate you guys." Adeline grinned.

"And that is..." Ollie and Paul trailed off. Awaiting her words that would speak highly of them.

"Don't push it." She scoffed as their expressions fell, making her giggle. "But yeah... you guys are supportive, and I really appreciate it." Her arms crossed as she sent the two a sweet and cheeky smile.

"Anything to support our favorite smartass-" Paul's playful insult was cut off as she kicked him in the shin beneath the table, making the blonde wince in pain as Ollie laughed.

"And we're back." Adeline huffed a breath.

"OW?" He glared at her as she shrugged it off in response. "You'll be okay."

"Everyone calls you a smartass and it's no problem, but when I do it..."

"It's because you're a dick already, so it's not fun when you say it." She mumbled with a surpressed laugh, paying no attention to his expressive response.

"Oh, come on."

"Treat women nicer and then maybe I'll let it slide!" Adeline glanced up as he rolled his eyes.

"I'm trying." The blonde muttered. A hesitant nod coming from the girl in response.

"i cAN fIx hIm!" Ollie mocked her like he did the night before, now earning a shin kick of his own.

"OW-"

"Okay here, pop quiz." The girl took a breath and looked at Paul. "If a girl is venting her feelings out and is genuinely being vulnerable, what do you do?"

"Tell her to relax, it's not that big a deal and it'll be okay..." He hesitantly answered as his reply made Adeline aggressively facepalm in disbelief.

"You're fucking joking, right?"

"That was a genuine answer." He said with pure honesty as Ollie say there with a surpassed laugh. "Oh wow." The brunette mumbled to himself.

"Another question, do you think it's okay to constantly bail and reschedule?" She quirked a brow as Paul shrugged.

"Yeah, I don't see a problem with that." He nodded.

"But let's say it's a constant habit..."

"Yeah... no issue.." Paul said with another lift at his shoulders, prompting a loud groan from her lips before she quickly hushed herself, mindful of their surroundings in the library.

"Okay. One more." Adeline's lip twitched. Her mind racing as she never realized how red of a flag he was.

"Your girl has a guy best friend?"

"Absolutely not." He shook his head.

"You're actually so incredibly unbelievable." She scoffed at his words, glancing at Ollie who was awkwardly looking around, avoiding her gaze.

"I thought my answers were good?-"

"No... they weren't." Adeline shook her head. Sighing aloud as his lips formed a thin line.

"Okay so, how do I fix it then?"

"Good question! I don't know where to start."
