✷ 008: Vettel and Viv.

I CAN FIX HIM ! by KissLeclerc
September 7, 2022 # "Looks Exotic."

"LOOK, ADELINE." The calming voice of her favorite teacher and debate team advisor spoke through a sigh. "As much as I would like to adhere to your wishes, I fear I can't deny anyone's eligibility to join the team because you don't like them."

"Sebastian. Let's be serious." She groaned as saying his first name caught Professor Vettel off guard, making him laugh.

"I am so totally serious." His voice went up three octaves, attempting to mock the tone of a teenage girl. "It's against my job as an advisor to refuse a student's desire to join a school organized club."

"Why.." Adeline asked with a sigh.

"It's classified as 'discrimination' in my teacher's handbook." He raised his brows, explaining the situation that it would pit him in. "I would love to! Just because you're in my classroom complaining heavily about this girl... but do you want me to get fired..."

"No!" She replied. "God, never. If they ever sacked you, I'd kill myself."

"I'm a mandated reporter, tone it down." His expression briefly fell, making her laugh.

"It's the truth, Mr. V." She huffed a breath, blowing a strand of hair out of her face before deciding to fix her white handband completely.

"Well, it's just out of my control. I have to play it safe." He sighed as Adeline shook her head with playful disappointment.

"This is devastating."

"Well, are you done here?" He laughed, trying to wrap up their conversation. "You've interrupted my lunch long enough."

"Oh, why do you hate me." The girl scoffed, crossing her arms.

"Well, do you want to waste your lunch ranting about a random girl to me or actually sit with your friends?" He quirked a brow. Opening his food container filled to the brim with pasta.

"I'd rather the first option. You're also my friend." Her tone was genuine as Mr. Vettel laughed at that statement.

"How sweet. But go on and enjoy your lunch, kid." He insisted. "I have to work on grading these year 9 papers."

"It's the third day of school and you already assigned a paper?" Adeline scoffed. "Man, I really don't miss your class."

"Ha. Ha." His tone was sarcastic. "And yet, you're still the best student I ever had." He gave her a knowing look as she laughed.

"Well, I'll leave you to it then." She shrugged. "Unless you'd like me to grade the papers for you, and I can stay in here away from my friends and that dreadful girl!"

"Adeline." Mr. Vettel chuckled, "Go."

"Mandated reporter and yet I am crying for help and you're not doing anything about it!" She argued as the man laughed once again.

"You're killing me here." He sighed. "I guess I can't stop you. But just know I'll be playing my German instrumentals and sitting in my own complete silence."

"Oh." Her lips pursed. "I think that's my cue to leave then." She sighed. Getting up from the seat she was sat in. Mr. Vettel feeling accomplished for finally shoo-ing her away.

"See you around!" He began eating his food and picked up a pen from his desk jar.

"First club meeting is next Friday by the way." Adeline mentioned to him as she was now bidding him a goodbye.

"Ah, yes. I know! From the many times you've updated the Google Calendar." He glanced up at the girl as she laughed.

"Bye Mr. V. Thanks for listening to me!"

"Anytime, kiddo." He smiled with another brief wave before she finally left his classroom.

As Adeline strolled down the hallway, her stomach rumbled momentarily since she delayed her lunch period by 15 minutes to catch up with her favorite teacher.

Aware that Vivienne was already seated at the lunch table, she was hoping to avoid any arguments or brewing tension since she was already having a good day.

Approaching the table that sat in the courtyard, she came up behind Ollie and Joslyn who were sat beside each other on the bench this time, startling the both of them as she wrapped her arms around the both of them.

"Hi guys!" Adeline smiled. Her two friends turning to register who it was before quickly greeting the girl.

"Oh, hello to you too!" Joslyn laughed as Ollie pat the her back in reaction. "Where were you?" She asked as Adeline went around the table to take the vacant spot beside Genevieve.

"Was chatting with Vettel." Adeline shrugged. Setting her bag on the floor beside her before glancing at Vivienne and Paul. "Debate stuff." She briefly explained.

"Hey, Adeline!" The girl greeted. Her tone sounding genuine but it still felt off.

"Hi Vivienne." The tone was matched. The tension still lurking. "How has your day been?"

"It's been good!" Vivienne nodded as her arm was subtly interlocked with Paul's under the table. "I've been meaning to talk to you actually." She paused. Swallowing thickly before she continued her statement.

"I just wanted to apologize for my behavior yesterday. It was all in good fun." She said. "I thought it was funny how it became a little debate. It was really fitting."

And with those words, Adeline couldn't help but mentally chuckle at the thought this girl would even consider their petty and heated argument a debate. It was a sad excuse, in all honesty.

"Oh." Adeline briefly replied. "Yeah, of course..." She subtly took Genevieve's hand into hers to squeeze out any of her pent up frustration.

"Sorry for my behavior too then." She nodded with an apology of her own.

"Just us debate girls being silly." Vivienne laughed as Adeline's fake laughter joined with. "Haha! Yeah."

"Well then." Her laugh died down. "I'm glad I caught you in time." She paused. "Paul and I were planning to head to chemistry early." She smiled.

"Oh!" Adeline nodded as she glanced at Paul who just shrugged. "Well, have fun." She smiled. Pulling out the container of lunch her mom had packed her.

"Oh what do you have there? Looks exotic." Vivienne glanced as Adeline's eye nearly twitched, glancing at Ollie and Joslyn who were at a loss of words for a brief moment.

".. It's just some sticky rice dumplings my mom made..." She said awkwardly as Vivienne laughed. "Oh, delicious! I love some Japanese food." She smiled as Adeline briefly covered her mouth in shock. "I went to thin Japanese restaurant a bunch back in America. It's to die for."

"It-It's Chinese, but nice try." Her voice was clearly ticked off. Trying so hard to nop snap at the girl as Paul stared.

"Okay uhh.. we should get going." The blonde finally spoke, standing up from the side of the table where they were sat and helping the girl beside up. "We'll see you guys around.... And we'll see you in class, Addy." He said awkwardly before taking Vivienne's hand and walked away.

Watching the couple grow smaller, the further they walked away, Adeline glanced at the rest of the table. Their faces biting down laughs or their jaws just agape.

"There's no fucking way that just happened." Genevieve covered her mouth as Joslyn cackled.

"Oh my god, I Hate her." She joined in.

"She's actually insufferable, it was a pain when you weren't here." Ollie complained as Kimi agreed.

"Mate, she was just talking her head off earlier. I was getting so mad." He groaned.

"I really don't know why Paul likes her." Ollie laughed nervously as Joslyn nearly scoffed.

"Are Americans that stupid?" Genevieve asked. "That food comment was insane."

"Jak is actually smart, so I don't know. It might be a her thing." Adeline scoffed as she took a bite of her food. "And fucks sake, Vettel won't let me deny her desire to join the team. So if she does join, I'm resigning." She wasn't even sure if she was joking anymore.

"That's ridiculous!! As his favorite student, you should have the rights to reject her." Joslyn argued as Adeline smiled.

"So, what did Paul talk to you about last night?" Ollie questioned. "I've been meaning to ask but I haven't had the chance to."

"Practically begged me to give Vivienne another chance." She explained. "I mean... I'm grateful she apologized, but you guys felt it too, right? I'm not crazy?"

"No yeah. It felt violently fake." Genevieve snickered as Adeline sighed in relief. "Ugh, that's what I thought."

"So, current thoughts on her as of right now?" Kimi asked.

"She's a fucking idiot and I lowkey need her to get hit by a truck, but you didn't hear that from me." Adeline groaned. "I don't know. I'm really giving her the benefit of the doubt for the sake of Paul."

"Why..." Joslyn quirked a brow. "Paul doesn't deserve anything good ever."

"Pipe down, he's our friend, you know." Adeline defended as Ollie laughed at Joslyn's loud groan.

"Well... I wouldn't call it friend-"

"He picked you up during an awful date when none of us were available. I would say he's your friend." Genevieve stated as Adeline nodded in agreement.

"Okay. Yeah." Joslyn sighed.

"I don't know... the way he talked about her.. it seemed very genuine and I think he really likes her! And I'm happy for him." Adeline explained.

"Maybe he can finally change his ways as the school douche and actually be a decent guy."

"Highly doubt it." Genevieve snickered.

"In our guys group chat, he talks about her way too much." Kimi mentioned as they all glanced at him. "Even when we played Fifa late at night yesterday." Ollie mentioned.

"It's been only three days and I swear he's willing to do a full 180 just for her. I think she might fix him."

"Nobody can fix him, I fear." Joslyn said. "Not even Vivienne." She scoffed.

"If he had the proper guidance or someone to slap some sense into his thick skull, maybe he'd get better at not being a complete dick towards girls." Adeline took a sip from her water.

"Hm... Maybe I can fix him." She joked as everyone around her laughed.

And Adeline very much smiled at the thought.
