✷ 007: Dinner.
I CAN FIX HIM ! by KissLeclerc
September 6, 2022 # "Please, Addy."
PULLING INTO the street where the Bearman residence sat, Adeline eventually spotted an available parking spot conveniently situated across the house.
Once she'd parked on the street, she stepped out of her car and smoothed down her outfit. A breath of satisfaction as she was finally able to switch her perfectly ironed school uniform and polished loafers for a more relaxed ensemble that gave off a totally different vibe.
Her baggy denim jeans and oversized Nike crewneck paired with platform slip on Uggs, exuded comfort, it was obvious she ready to just have a chill and enjoyable night with her friends.
Walking up the steps to Ollie's front porch, Adeline knocked three times before a familiar face happily opened the door, greeting her friend with a quick hug.
"Hey!" Joslyn smiled before pulling away and dragging the girl in. "You're the first one here. Ollie and I are just making cookies right now." She explained as Adeline smirked with a raised brow, receiving a light shove from her in response.
"Stop. It's been so hard not think about it like that."
"Think about it like what? That maybe Ollie actually has a thing for you?" Adeline whispered as she hung her purse on the entry way hooks.
"Zip it." Joslyn was quick to shut it down before walking back towards the familiar hallway that lead to the kitchen.
"Hi Ads!" Ollie smiled as she quickly hopped onto the kitchen island, taking a seat beside the two as she watched them form their cookie dough balls.
"Hey." She greeted back before he quickly went over to his fridge and pulled out freshly washed strawberries.
"For you. As, always." He handed her the bowl, a wash of excitement emitting from Adeline in response.
"Bestest friend ever. This is why you're my favorite man ever." She smiled. Now sitting criss cross on the kitchen island as she ate her strawberries happily.
"It's unlocked!" Joslyn yelled to the knock at the front door, proceeding to hear the entrance open and shut in response.
"Paul is here." He announced himself in third person, walking into the kitchen as Adeline's expression completely fell, now eating her strawberries in disgust.
"Oh." He read the tone of the room.
"Well. Don't get too excited."
"I'm practically jumping with joy." Her remark was sarcastic and petty as she reached for another strawberry.
"Mine, thank you." He snatched it out of her hands and ate it himself. Adeline's eye twitching in response.
"Where's your mother?" Adeline glanced at Ollie as she now wanted to leave the room, annoyed at Paul's presence.
"Went to the shop." He replied. "We didn't have any bread."
"Wonderful." Adeline huffed a breath, glancing back at Paul who was still eating her strawberries. "DO YOU MIND." She snatched the bowl away as he rolled his eyes in response.
"Can you share. Please." He sighed as she continued to childishly ignore him. "Addddyyyy, please."
"Admit Vivienne is a wench and I'll consider."
"Oh, come on." Paul groaned. "You can't be serious."
"I'm mega serious." Adeline laughed in his face. "Say it and I'll grant you some strawberries."
"You know what. I don't even want some anymore." Paul backed away. Joslyn and Ollie still standing in the kitchen, watching the two mindlessly argue.
"Good! More for me." She shrugged, biting into yet again, another strawberry.
"Home, darling!" Ollie's mom suddenly entered the room. "With friends." She smiled as Gen and Kimi appeared from behind her. "We all arrived at the same time."
"Hi Mum!" Ollie gave his mother a kiss on the cheek as she set her bags of groceries down. "Hello, hello!" She said cheerfully. "You guys can go ahead and hang around in the family room. I'll pop these in the oven for you and finish making dinner. How's that sound?" She asked as the six teenagers agreed in unison.
"Sounds perfect, thanks!" The tall brunette smiled before kissing his mother's temple.
Migrating toward the living room, Adeline took her usual seat on Ollie's L-shaped sofa, comfortably seating herself in the corner as Joslyn joined her right side, immediately cuddling into her as Gen soon came along.
"You two do no harm." Adeline sighed as she wrapped her arms around them. "You guys can never piss me off, unlike SOME people." She glanced at Paul who sat at the edge of the couch.
"Oh, shut-" He groaned with a small laugh before chucking a pillow at Adeline's head.
"OH, REALLY?" She untangled herself from the cuddled position between her two best friends and stood up. "Don't start something you can't finish, Aron." She picked a pillow up and approached him.
"Is that a threat?" He stood up with his own pillow as she quickly glared at him, his height advantage clearly towering over her before Adeline initiated an aggressive pillow fight.
"OW- HOW DO YOU-" Paul was shocked at her strength with the pillow. "HOW DO YOU HIT SO HARD." He began to use his cushioned pillow as a shield.
"Stop pissing me off or next time I bash you with a frying pan." She hit him once again before dropping the pillow to the floor, going ahead to take her vacant spot on the couch.
"So... so aggressive." Kimi said in awe as he was sat beside Ollie. The two awkwardly searching for a movie for all of them to watch while Adeline had already started a fight.
"What? Do you want a turn?" She glanced at the Italian as he shot his arms up in defense. "No, I'm good!" He laughed it off before she slouched beck into the couch comfortably.
"I feel like I have a concussion." Paul said as he was sat on the floor in defeat, rubbing the back of his head with a sigh.
"Good. Consider it payback for your horrendous choice in girls." Adeline shot back as he rolled his eyes.
"Okay so do you forgive me now that you gOt yOuR pAyBacK." He mocked her voice with the last bit as a scoff emitted from her lips. "Or at least now that you've gotten your anger out, you'll give Viv another chance?"
"Maybe." She shrugged in annoyance, not even peeping a glance at him. "I'll have to deeply consider."
"So a yes, essentially." He stood up and tossed the pillows from their fight moments before onto the couch.
"Maybe." Adeline responded once more. A small tug at the corners of Paul's lips lifting. "Thank you." He said happily.
"I still need you dead." She crossed her arms, glaring at the blonde as he already seemed satisfied with himself.
"Just admit you love me and that I'm your best friend." Paul sighed as she shot him a cringed look. Ollie and Kimi laughing at the interaction.
"I'll say I'm incredibly fond of you and you are unfortunately in my inner circle."She smirked sarcastically. "How's that sound?"
"I'll take what I can get." He shrugged in satisfaction.
Proceeding with the evening, the group took forever in finding a film to watch so Ollie had settled for cable. The only interesting thing airing on the TV being Spongebob, which they didn't mind at all.
Eventually, Terri had finished making dinner, soon calling the teenagers into the dining room for a sit down meal, happily serving her beautifully made pasta ragu and garlic bread.
Sitting with one leg casually propped on her chair, Adeline was positioned between Joslyn and unfortunately, Paul. The group mindlessly talked about their day as Ollie's mom chimed in and out.
"So!" The woman cleared her throat. "What's the plan for the debate team this year, darling?" She asked, glancing at Adeline as the girl had a mouthful of pasta in her mouth.
"Oh-" She swiftly swallowed her food, sipping her water to wash it down. "Uhh... So far we're still down a member." She explained.
"Since one of the members graduated last year... but I'm definitely looking to hold a meeting soon for further discussions soon. We're still fresh into the year."
"I love watching your debates, they were always so interesting. Leading the school to victory every year has been quite satisfying." Terri smiled as Adeline laughed nervously, never knowing how to properly take compliments.
"I'd rather attend those than a football game with these three just running around a field." She joked as Ollie shot his mom a glare. "Thanks mum." He said sarcastically.
"Of course, sweet pea." She ruffled his brunette hair. Joslyn smirking at the interaction.
"Vivienne could take the spot.... you know...." Paul averted eye contact with Adeline as he mentioned the option to her once more. "I think she'd be really good."
"Are you trying to ruin dinner orrr..."
"Adeline, come on!" Paul sighed as the others groaned, knowing another argument between the two might be sparking. "I know how important debate is to you. There is a perfect contender right in front your eyes and you're refusing to give her a-"
"Dude, just leave it!" She said through an angry whisper. "I don't want to talk about this anymore, I don't want her on my team, and that's all I have to say." Adeline grumbled as she stabbed her fork into her pasta. The group falling silent.
"Uhh. Who wants cookies?" Ollie's mom chimed in to ease the tension. "Uhh... Sounds like a plan!" Ollie said happily before the group fell into a silence again.
Quickly heading back to the kitchen, Terribwas quick to soon bring out glasses of milk along with the freshly baked tray of cookies that Ollie and Joslyn had made together.
Adeline sat in her seat, not reaching for a treat at all as the others just snacked in silence, the tension making the room feel awkward, but it wasn't her intention.
She was just upset and needed to slap Paul.
"Hey." She was snapped out of her thoughts, turning to the blonde who was staring at her intently. "Can we talk? Outside?" He motioned to the front door as she hesitantly glanced at Joslyn and Genevieve who were both lost in their own worlds with Kimi and Ollie.
"Please..." He said genuinely as she rolled her eyes before getting up and walking toward the front door, giving him no verbal response.
"Where are you going?" Kimi quickly noticed the two. Adeline quick to ignore the question as Paul briefly answered, saying they were just gonna talk.
Upon exiting to the front porch of the Bearman household, Adeline stood with her arms crossed while Paul shut the door before facing her.
"Look, Adeline-"
"Make it quick." She interrupted briefly before allowing him to continue.
"Okay..." He cleared his throat. "Um... I'll start it off by saying I'm sorry." The blonde apologized, making her quirk a brow in slight shock.
"Sorry for pushing this Vivienne stuff on you, I understand she was a complete jerk to you..."
"Jerk is... definitely a word you can use." She scoffed. "I think a bitch is the perfect way to describe it."
"Hey." His expression fell as she rolled her eyes. Averting his gaze as she harshly felt it on her face.
"I just really want our group to get along with her. I know I've only known her a day or two but deep down inside me really feels something for her." Paul confessed as she stared at him with slight disgust berle giving him a chance to continue explaining himself.
"Mhm?..."
"Like every moment spent with her... I feel this connection and part of me is so willing to change my antics just for her. Id give her the world-"
"Corny ass." Adeline grumbled as Paul gave her a cold expression in response for cutting him off.
"Oh, sorry... Continue your royal corniness." She bit down a laugh as he rolled his eyes, motioning for him to proceed his dumb speech.
"No. You ruined it." He crossed his arms as she laughed.
"Whatever." Adeline shrugged, looking down at her feet before glancing back to at Paul.
"Well." She finally looked him in the eyes. "As insufferable she may be.... I can tell you really have feelings for her... I guess."
"I do..." He exhaled through his nose. "It's crazy."
"Well yeah.. You've only known the girl for two days." Adeline chuckled as he scoffed in response.
Taking a deep breath, Paul looked down at her once again. "Sitting next to her in chemistry and economics has been so interesting, and when I took her home today, I really felt something.. you know?"
"Okay..." She nodded, backing away from his eagerness as he talked about the girl with a clear infatuation. "I understand you like her a lot, and I'm happy for you but can you just understand where I'm coming from at least?"
"I do get it, Ads." He let out a breath. "I talked to her about it when I took her home. She wants to formally apologize."
"Okay....? And I should care because...."
"Oh come on! She wants to try and get to know you better! I really like her Adeline. Just give her a chance." Paul was practically begging. "You two would get along well. I know it." He stepped closer. "Pleassseee..."
"OKAY- back off." She slightly shoved him away for personal space. "One more shot." Adeline grumbled. "If she's a cunt one more time, I kill her and her entire bloodline and then you." She threatened. "Got it?"
"Are you serious?!" Paul said in shock.
"So serious. I will literally end her if-"
"NO. You're giving her another shot?" His smile was wide.
"Well.. yeah-"
"THANK YOU! THANK YOU!" Paul was quick to leap forward and engulf her into a hug.
"This means a lot. I genuinely didn't think I'd get anywhere with this." He said as he embraced her while she desperately tried to rid his grip, squirming under his old.
"OFF." She demanded as he quickly let go. "Sorry-"
"Emphasis on ONE more shot." Adeline scolded. "I swear Paul, if she pisses me off one more time-"
"SHE WONT! I promise." He insisted. "Trust me."
"Should I though?" She crossed her arms once again. "I don't know if I can trust you."
"You can. Please just trust me." Paul's tone was convincing as she finally took a deep breath.
"Alright.." Adeline let out a small exhale. "Fine."
"YES!" He said cheerfully before going in for another hug but she was quick to stop him mid gesture.
"Stop doing that, if you know what's best for you." She insisted. "Just stay content with the fact I'm even letting this girl have a second shot."
"Seriously thank you, Addy. I really appreciate it."
