✷ 002: Last First Day.

I CAN FIX HIM ! by KissLeclerc
September 5, 2022 # "If The Boot Fits."

STARING AT THE CLOCK, Adeline was begging for her class to finally end. With each passing second feeling like an eternity, her French professor's monologue dragged on relentlessly. His voice, a dull drone, seemed to blend with the rhythmic ticking of the clock, it nearly sent her off to sleep.

Straightening her posture, Adeline sat forward, trying to at least seem like she was listening, mindlessly flattening out the non existent wrinkles on her perfectly ironed uniform.

Glancing beside her, she locked eyes Ollie who was slouched in his seat. His eyelids slowly drooping with each drawn-out syllable, and she couldn't even blame him; the classroom felt heavy with the weight of boredom, the air was thick with the scent of unspoken longing for freedom.

It was clear everyone was already over it, and it was only the first day.

Their last first day, at least.

Just as she felt herself slipping into a daydream, the sound of her teacher's voice finally shifted, snapping her back to attention. The dreaded French lesson morphed into a dismissal, and Adeline's heart skipped a beat. Finally, the moment she had been waiting for had arrived.

"That was brutal." Adeline mumbled. Quick to start a conversation as she walked beside Ollie.

"At least you were awake for it." He grumbled, the two making their way through the crowded hallways as they were headed off to lunch. "I can't even tell you one thing he said."

"I was awake, but was I listening...?" She gave him a knowing glance, the two smirking since they already knew the answer to her rhetorical question.

"For being one of the smartest in our year, you really don't listen a lot-" His voice was cut off by her sudden ring tone.

"Hold." Adeline held a finger as the two made an abrupt stop around the corner. "It's your boyfriend." She mumbled, staring at the contact name that belonged to Kimi.

"Oh?-" He quirked a brow as she answered.

"What." She replied with a sense of dread, the boy on the other side of the line emitting an offended scoff before proceeding to speak.

"Uh, do you or Ollie happen to have an extra fork?"

"Get up from your seat. Walk to the cafeteria. And there should be a crate of forks at the end of the line." Adeline paused. "Hope this helps! She exclaimed before hanging up.

"What did he need?" Ollie asked as she shrugged it off. "Nothing important." She replied, biting down a laugh before continuing to make her way to the spot she and her friends sat.

Arriving to the lunch table beneath a tree in the courtyard, the duo that had just escaped the torture of their French class were quickly greeted.

Adeline took a seat beside Joslyn, sitting at the edge of the bench as she reveled in the beauty of the spot they were able to call theirs.

A spot so convenient, comfortable and filled with memories. Adeline and her friends had been lucky to be able to secure it as their table. This final year, being their fifth school term sitting at it.

"I haven't seen you all day!" Joslyn groaned, giving Adeline a quick side hug as Ollie took the vacant spot across from them, sitting beside Kimi, who had his girlfriend Genevieve on his other side.

"Yeah, sorry." Adeline let out a soft laugh. "I was assigned to give this new girl a tour." She shrugged, reaching into her backpack to pull out the container of strawberries she packed for herself.

"New girl?" Kimi quirked a brow.

"Oh, you guys are talking about the new girl?" Paul inserted himself into the conversation as he sat beside Adeline.

Well.

More like pushed her aside so he could have the edge seat across from Ollie.

"You, ass." Adeline grumbled in annoyance, scooting away from him as she gave him space and not even bothering to argue about forcefully moving her over.

"How do you know about the new girl?" Kimi questioned as Paul laughed with a shrug.

"Saw an unfamiliar face this morning and figured she was new." He smirked . "She's hot."

"And there it is." Joslyn snorted.

"Wait, so who is she?" Genevieve spoke up as she ate her pasta. Kimi eating some of it with his bare fingers since he probably didn't find a fork... nor get one for himself like Adeline had suggested.

"Mmm..." Adeline hummed as she swallowed her strawberry. "Her name is Vivienne, she moved here from America."

"America?" Paul questioned as she gave him a side glance.

"Well, yeah that's what I just said, genius." She turned to him. Her tone a little condescending as he rolled his eyes with a small smirk.

"Someone's a little sassy today." Paul held his arms up in defense as Adilene rolled her eyes.

"And someone's breath reeks more than it usually does." She scoffed, taking no time before handing him a breath mint from her blazer pocket.

"Oh, what the hell." He took offense, as the others laughed at the interaction, Adeline smirking as she always found joy in teasing her friends.

"Wait, sorry is that her?" Joslyn pointed, making her snap out of her fit of giggles. Following the direction she was pointing at, she noticed the familiar brunette from earlier walking happily through the courtyard alone, a tray of school food sat in her arms.

"Yeah." Adeline nodded before eating another strawberry.

"Oh, wow. She's gorgeous." Genevieve turned back around, practically blushing from watching the American transfer from afar.

"I feel creepy. I was just staring at her."

"I should talk to her." Paul spoke up as the rest of the group glanced at him with disapproving stares.

"Don't even think about it." Joslyn was quick to scold. "Leave that girl alone."

"What? What's the harm in me talking to her?"

"Hmmm, let's see. There's a long list! Should we read through it all together?" Adeline suggested with a smile.

"I have it all written down in my notes." She dangled her phone in his face as his jaw dropped.

"A list?!" Paul was clueless. "Wait, of what exactly..."

"You're kidding, right?" Genevieve's eyebrow raised as he glanced at the three girls in confusion.

"You're just a dick, mate." Kimi pieced it for him. "Hope that helps." He winked as Ollie laughed, the blonde's jaw dropping in shock.

"Oh come on, I just wanna be friendly! She's sitting alone right now, look-" He briefly pointed over at the girl as she was in fact, seated on a secluded bench by herself. A pair of headphones sitting on her ears as she ate.

"Friendly, my ass." Joslyn scoffed. "Since when was trying to get into a girls pants your idea of friendly-"

"Easy, girl." Adeline laughed as she raised a hand to pause her friend, keeping Joslyn from going any further as this was a sensitive topic among the friend group.

That being Paul's recklessness and cluelessness when it comes to playing with a girl's feelings.

"Alright, I know I'm not the greatest guy, but can I not want to be her friend? It's a thoughtful gesture, no?" Paul tried to defend himself.

"And I mean, yeah she's hot-"

"You lost me." Adeline interrupted through a laugh as that sentence ruined the consideration she was having, thinking maybe Paul was being genuine.

"Well, she is!"

"Okay, if you wanna be her friend so bad, then go talk to her?" Ollie scoffed as Paul shook his head.

"Well too late, she's walking away." Joslyn pointed as she was telling the truth. The group now spotting Vivienne walk back into the school building.

"Just leave her alone, it's probably for the best." Kimi laughed as he drank his water.

"Maybe if I have a class with her, I'll talk to her." Paul suggested as the group groaned. "Dude? Give up." Joslyn cringed as he rolled his eyes.

"If you have chemistry next, then you should talk to her." Adeline shrugged as she began scrolling through her phone. "She has that class with Ollie and I."

"Oh!" Paul knowingly smirked. "So, you, me, Ollie and Vivienne have that class together." He smiled as she shot him a death glare.

"Excuse me?" She quirked a brow.

"I have Chemistry next." He said with a light lift at his shoulders.

"Oh, great." She groaned. A laugh escaping the others' lips as she huffed a breath into the palms of her hands.

"Sooo, I should talk to her?" He asked his friends as they all gave him the same shared look that screamed; "No."

"Oh fuck you guys, I'm gonna talk to her."

"And then I start praying for her." Genevieve sighed, bringing her hands together as she looked up at the sky.

"Vivienne, may you rest in peace girl." Joslyn joined along. "Don't fall for Paul's corny ass antics! Please if you hear me Vivienne, don't do it girl!"

"Okay, what the hell." His lips formed a thin line as Adeline couldn't help but laugh. "Ohhh. They gagged you." She bit down a laugh, eyeing the boy beside her as he scoffed.

"Assholes."

"If the boot fits!" Genevieve pressed a finger to her chin, looking up as if she was deep in thought.

"And that's my cue to leave." Paul stood up at the sound of the ringing bell, throwing a middle finger up at the his friends.

"All out of love." Joslyn smiled as the other two girls laughed.
