"Our twisted tale of love is the one that should be written in the pages of history."
----
[A/N POV]
Peeling open her eyes from a prolonged dream, she found herself on a hospital bed. Her body was weak and her hand was pinned with an IV. Her brows ceased as her blurred vision finally gave a clear view of the person gently holding her trembling hand. The woman choked on her words as she called out his name, her eyes brimming with tears.
"Jungkook..." She softly called out his name, as tears flew uncontrollably through her eyes.
The said male immediately woke up from his short nap and glanced at the woman, his eyes widened like saucers as he didn't waste a moment to engulf her in a bone crushing hug.
"I'm... I'm sorry Y/N!" He choked on his words as he engulfed the woman in his arms, his head resting in the crook of her neck as he wailed uncontrollably.
She couldn't help but cry out loud listening to his voice as she patted his back, the IV getting pulled off due to her swift motion.
"What happened here?" She asked, gazing at the alien environment, her head still spinning with the events of the past and everything felt like jumbling up in her brain like a whirlpool of thoughts, memories and flashbacks. Tears uncontrollably made their way through her eyes and the male wiped them off by the pad of his thumb, delicately caressing her face.
"You were in a comatose state for the past two weeks. They said, there's a meagre chance of you ever w-waking up." His throat constricted while speaking the last sentence as his lips trembled in agony. Her brows furrowed in perplexity but nonetheless, she once again engulfed the male into her embrace, clutching on his back with all her might as if, he might disappear if she left his hands.
Certainly, it would take a long way for those agonizing flashbacks to become a faded memory- after all, the wounds are still fresh. She was grateful that at least she wasn't caught up in a solivagant state, like a lost soul.
She is breathing and alive, her body didn't feel transparent anymore.
No matter how much she had in her mind to say but now, seeing the reality, she choose to be in tacenda.
"I'm alright, Jungkook. See! I'm talking, smiling, I'm hugging you and I don't even feel pain." She tried to lighten up his mood but nothing helped. Looking at his disheveled state, anyone could make out he hadn't slept in days, dark circles vividly encircled below his eyes and he seemed to have lost a considerable amount of weight.
"You have no idea how I've survived in these two weeks! I-I... Please stay alive for me, for us, Y/N! I can't seem to have a future without you by my side." He confessed, his eyes welled with tears and she couldn't help but stay silent and gently do cafune on him. The way his shoulders relaxed as her hands moved in his hair, gave her a signal that he was slowly calming down.
She broke from the hug and then gazed into his chocolatey brown orbs for a moment before leaning forwards and pecking his puffy eyes, forehead and cheeks, and then, gently landing a soft peck on his lips. She smiled through tears as he cupped her cheeks and planted a gentle kiss on her forehead, simultaneously uttering the words she was dying to hear for all her life.
"I love you." Jungkook spoke out, a crimson hue immediately making its way on his cheeks. She smiled ear to ear and before she could reply further, the door opened and there stood Mrs. Jeon with Sarang in her arms, along with the team of doctors.
The doctors immediately looked after the vitals and other important procedures of their patient and once they were satisfied that she's in a better condition, they left the woman, giving the family some privacy.
Meanwhile, looking at her daughter-in-law finally awake from a deep sleep, the elder woman practically sprinted towards her direction. Jungkook took Sarang in his arms, while Mrs. Jeon hugged Y/N tightly, tears etching out from her eyes.
"I'm alright, mom..." The younger whined, trying to lighten the mood but nothing seemed to help.
"We were so worried! Why did you need to go though such a life threatening situation?!" The elder cut her off from speaking further, as she scolded her gently.
"I'm sorry, I'll be careful from now on." She spoke out with a tight lipped smile, only to get nagged on.
"I won't let you take any such risks from now on, let me see who dares to put the daughter-in-law of the Kingstons in such a life-threating situation! I left you in this brat's care but he was irresponsible as always! I'm sorry, Y/N, I made things even more difficult for you."
"No, mother. I'm very happy for whatever decision you made, after all I married the love of my life because of you and I definitely, do not have any regrets." Y/N muttered with honesty, a soft smile grazing her pale face as she glanced at Jungkook standing with their daughter in his arms.
Now, it feels normal.
Things feel real.
Once again, Mrs. Jeon engulfed her into a tight hug, gently patting her back and after a tremendous get-together for almost an hour, she finally decided to give the couple some privacy whilst making her way to inform the other family members.
Finally, Y/N looked at the little girl sitting happily in her husband's embrace, playing video games like a normal kid would do.
'My daughter.' She chuckled as she looked at the duo, she appeared comfortable with Jungkook. She didn't appear scared or trembling like before, on the contrary, she was smiling joyfully as the male muttered something in her ears.
"Did Sarang miss me?" Y/N questioned, smiling earnestly as the kid looked at her. Listening to her question, the kid walked up to her with little, careful steps. She didn't speak anything for quite sometime, as if carefully looking at the woman.
"Do you want to sit here?" The woman asked in an attempt to comfort the little girl and she slowly nodded, getting up on her bed, while Jungkook sat on the nearby stool.
"Does it hurt?" With her little hands, the girl carefully touched the bandages around the woman's arms and the IV attached to her right hand, making sure she doesn't hurt her in the process. Y/N shook her head as a 'no', smiling gently at the girl in response.
"It doesn't. I'm strong, you know?" She winked.
"I know, I want to be strong like you."
"You already are! So strong! You see, these biceps... Woah! My girl is going to beat all the bad guys!" The woman playfully squeezed the girl's arms.
"Really?" Her eyes twinkled with excitement, followed by Jungkook chuckling at their ordeal.
"Yes! So, can I get a bear hug from my daughter?" She questioned because she understood the girl's discomfort. She was afraid she might hurt her by her actions, unknown by the fact that the woman was wishing to shower her face with kisses.
Steadily, she wrapped her tiny arms around her waist, finally letting out her sobs she controlled all this while. It was surprising for the two elders to see a kid this young to be this understanding.
"I m-missed you so much!" She stammered, sobbing harder and tightened her hold on the woman's belly. She softly caressed her silky-smooth hair and cooed comforting words to her, she couldn't afford to shed anymore tears.
"I'm not going anywhere. I'm always there with you, love." The way the little girl snaked her arms around the woman was surely an endearing sight, her comforting actions and words making the girl calm down in her embrace. Jungkook, who sat at a distance was capturing this moment with the lens of his glistening eyes, the contagious smiles of the two most important females in his life, made his lips curve up too.
"Pro-promise me!" Sarang displayed her pinky finger towards the woman and she immediately wrapped her finger with it, tying the promise with the press of their thumbs.
"Promise!"
"Now, can my little bear give me a big smile?" She hugged her once again and Y/N motioned Jungkook, who sat a distance, to join them. He smiled whilst wiping his tears by the pad of his thumb and wrapped his arms around the woman, the kid being sandwiched between the two.
The scene unfolding finally appeared like a normal family meetup.
A family which is happy.
----
The rest of the day was spent meeting with the entire Jeon family and the manager, Mr. Jung along with his wife, certainly it was an emotional time for all of them. They all expressed their concern for the woman and left her with the best of wishes for the future.
After numerous nerve-wracking tests and observations by the team of skilled doctors, Y/N was finally allowed to get discharged. Manager and his wife took Sarang with them for a day, so that the couple could get some privacy.
Jungkook didn't let her walk for a moment and effortlessly picked her up in his arms, as if she weighed like feathers.
"Yah! I can walk-"
"Shut it, I'm not letting you off unless and until I'm satisfied that you're in a good condition." He uttered confidently, the passersby giving the couple looks of awe and surprise.
Afterall, it's the superstar Jeon Jungkook they were seeing. Certainly, this was the next top news for the tabloids but it was the least of the concerns for the two of them. At this point, he didn't care if his relationship is disclosed, as for Y/N, she was done with hiding and the secrecy. After all, they didn't commit a crime, it's their personal life.
In an hour, they reached their mansion. The front gate was flocked up with reporters buzzing around for the most sensational scandal at the moment- Jeon Jungkook's 'girlfriend' and the guards were controlling the crowd. Ignoring the chaos, he glanced at Y/N, who glanced at the commotion with furrowed brows. He swiftly turned the wheels and the car maneuvered towards the back entrance.
"What is happening here?"
"Nothing, they're flocking up for some news." She nodded meekly as they entered their home, the things remained at their place, as clean as ever. She smiled looking at living room, the aroma of room freshener making her feel at home.
Suddenly, a thought crossed her mind, an information that entirely went away from her head in all this time. "Jungkook, what happened to the sword?"
He looked at her for a good two minutes and sighed, "It's kept at the place where it belongs- the national museum for artefacts." He informed with a plain tone.
Listening to the information, the woman couldn't help but wonder what exactly happened that unfortunate day. She has blurred memories of the altercation and her head is spinning to encapsulate all those flashbacks from the past.
"Did I do something? I mean... before being unconscious? Did I do something weird?" She asked with a shivering tone, only for him to gently hold her palms and caress them. He understood what she was referring to and by no means, he wanted her to remember that. After almost a month, he has seen her... Alive and breathing and he certainly didn't wish for her to be in shock, she's still in a recovering condition.
Whatever happened, occurred in the past, a certain segment of his life that he wished would get deleted.
"Let's not talk about the past, Y/N. I want to start a new phase our lives with you, let bygones be bygones." With these reassuring words, he pulled her into a gentle hug. Her head rested on his torso as he caressed her silky hair. A tranquil silence surrounded them until another thought crossed her mind, as he broke from the hug.
"And Jaehoon? Is he alright?" She questioned. His mouth opened up to answer but he stopped, forming the right words in his mind to let her know the truth.
He released a shaky breath, as his eyes glistened with unshed tears, "We couldn't rescue him on time."
Her mouth went agape on hearing it, lips trembling and once again, those flashbacks appeared right in front of her eyes.
Wang Xiomin, Jaehoon...
Jaehoon had a heart, maybe cold and bleeding, but he did had one unlike Wang who was a total wrecked up nutcase.
No! They weren't the same person!
'Please Y/N... Don't have a panic attack...' She consoled herself as her breath shuddered. Jungkook instantly came to her aid, with worried expressions.
"Y/N, should I call the doctor? Is something wrong?" He held her by the arms but she shook her head, trying to act normal. She took in a breath whilst closing her eyes and let it out, while the male brought her a glass of water.
She gulped the water and continued, "Does Sarang know?"
"She doesn't."
This was the thing that scared her the most- Sarang loved her uncle, he was her only family left. How can they lose someone so important to that kid? How will she forgive herself for such a loss? Sarang may seem a bit normal now, but with the loss of Jaehoon... The woman was afraid she won't be able to make her happy.
She would be caught in a painful abyss.
Before she could speak something, the door bell rang. Putting a halt on further conversation, Jungkook went to open the door only to come along with Sarang, holding his hand.
"Mangernim came to drop her," He informed, unable to look at the woman in the eye.
The kid, unaware of the tension, ran upto the woman and wrapped her tiny arms around her waist. She got on her knees at her level, as she lovingly caressed her cheeks.
"Why are you crying?" Sarang asked worried, as she wiped the woman's tears. She shook her head with a pain stricken smile.
"Is it paining?" She asked, again.
"No... I just... " She choked on her words, unable to speak further. How will she inform this little kid about the ordeal?
"I don't like to see you crying... Mom." She uttered, catching the attention of the couple.
"W-what did you call me?"
"You said that I'm your daughter, so I can call you 'mom', right?" She smiled beaming with joy as he once again hugged the shocked woman, who glanced at her husband.
Jungkook too, came on his knees in front of them, tears threatening to flow anytime from his eyes. Sarang broke from the hug and then glanced at the male, unlike the usual times, she didn't appear to be afraid of him.
"You're not my appa I know, appa kills and you're not a killer..." She spoke out as she wiped off his tears, "Will you be my d-dad?" She stuttered speaking the last words. His eyes widened at her interjection but then, he nodded with joy and picked the girl in his embrace, steadily placing a loving peck on her forehead. She sobbed in the crook of his neck, as he embraced her in an endearing hug.
"Shall we eat something?" Y/N questioned, wiping the tear from the corner of her eye.
"Pasta!" The father- daughter duo exclaimed, earning a chuckle from the female. All of them laughed, finally appearing like a normal family.
----
It was at noon when she found herself in the crematorium, along with Jungkook who carried Sarang in his arms. The girl carried a confused expression on her face, as she looked at her surroundings.
"Why are we here?" She questioned, innocently.
After a long discussion throughout the day, the couple made up their mind to let her know the truth, they're about to start new chapter of their lives and they didn't want their family to start on the basis of lies and deceit.
It'll hurt for a while but it's necessary rather than to give her a false hope.
Her panicking voice brought them out of their trance, "You said we are going to meet uncle Jaehoon... Where is he?"
"Sarang we-" Jungkook intervened, trying to get a hold of the situation but the girl was smart, she went towards Y/N to confirm the worst case scenario.
"Did he... D-did he d-die?!" She stammered, tears etching out from her lashes as Y/N shifted to the side, the grave portrayed right in front of her eyes.
Song Jaehoon
1990-2024
"I'm sorry-" Y/N tried to console the girl but nothing helped.
"You can't l-leave me like that, UNCLE! GET UP!!" Sarang settled on her knees in front of the grave. She cried and cried uncontrollably as they placed the bouquet of white chrysanthemums on the grave. She screamed and Jungkook held her by the arms, instantly taking her in a bone crushing hug.
After all, who can know the pain of death better than these two individuals?
As they were coping up with the loss, the sudden interjection of a man caught their attention. He walked up towards them with slow and dominating steps, making their mouths flung open, aghast.
"There is a special quality in Poison..." The man got on knee in front of the grave and everyone gaped at him with stunned expressions, as he pecked the red rose and placed it on the stone. He glanced at Y/N and with a dismissive smirk and continued,
"Poison never expires." He winked, smirking devilishly.
