Sister

CHAPTER 38- Sister

Demi's POV

I woke up to an empty bed, Nicko was gone but I heard noises coming from the floor below as I walked sleepily down the stairs. Nicko's mom was making breakfast and Nicko was sitting on the couch making googoo eyes at Mia as she looked at him with a gummy smile.

"Hey babe." Nicko said, and it flowed out of his mouth so freely I wanted to burst into tears.

"Hi." I murmured, and sat next to him, gently taking Mia and rubbing my nose against hers, "Hey babygirl."

Deborah walked over with two plates and squealed suddenly, grabbing a polaroid camera from the table. "Oh my GOD! You guys look so cute! I have to take a picture."

Nicko went to stop her but I grabbed his hand and smiled for the camera.

"Perfect! Now let's see a kiss!"

Nicko felt me tense and he let out a groan, "Mom come on."

"Pleaaaaase? Just one!"

Nicko sighed and went to argue again but I spoke, "Well if it is just one..."

Nicko looked up at me in shock and I shrugged leaning in a bit. He hesitated, then gently pressed his lips to mine. I couldn't help but smile into the kiss and saw the flash go off. Nicko lingered for a second, then pulled away gently, looking into my eyes with so much emotion I thought my heart would crack.

"You guys are too cute." She gushed, then handed us both a plate, "Now eat up!"

I smiled and took it from her, my
head still spinning from the kiss as I began to eat the eggs and bacon. Beside me, Nicko quietly ate his own. We didn't speak for a while until his mom walked upstairs and Nicko turned to me, "So you're okay with kissing me for a camera but not in real life?"

I shrugged and gave him a flirtatious smile, "Not necessarily." He blinked a few times and I leaned over, pressing my lips to his lightly. His hand moved to my neck and I could feel all of the feelings rushing back to mind and was about to pull away, but Mia did it for me. She kicked out her leg and swung it back with surprising force, right into Nicko's crotch.

He pulled away abruptly, his eyes closing with a groan as I scooped Mia up and burst into a fit of giggles, "Oh my God are you okay Nik?"

He doubled over and coughed, shaking his head, "Holy shit." He croaked, and I leaned into him, rubbing his back. Nicko looked up at Mia and frowned at the infant who looked very pleased with herself as she kicked her legs proudly.

"Are you okay?" I said, fighting a smile. Nicko pouted and it was a reflex to lean in a peck his lips, "How about now?" He smiled and leaned into me, kissing me a bit harder, his hand intertwining in my hair while the other covered his dick still. I inhaled sharply as my body began to react to his touch and pulled away.

"That shouldn't of happened." I muttered, and Nicko bowed his head.

"Sorry."

I sighed, "No it's okay, it's my fault I'm sorry."

He sighed, "So there's a few more things I gotta do today, I need to go into the city. Do you think you'll be okay here with my mom?" I smiled and nodded, he kissed my forehead then stood, "Alright then. I'm gonna get going." He reached for Mia and kissed her lips then two chubby cheeks. "Goodbye princess, Daddy loves you."

I smiled, "See you later."

He bent down to give her back to me then kissed my cheek, "And I love you very much mommy."

I couldn't help the cheesy grin that spread across my face as he gave me a wink and walked out the door.

I played with Mia for a couple of minutes, then Deborah walked down, smiling at the sight of us, and sat down.

"So you wanna tell me why you and my son aren't together?"

I choked a bit and stared at her with my eyes wide, "W-What do you mean?"

She smiled, "I know my son, you two are different from the last time I saw you guys, very very different. So, let me have it, what did he do?"

I sighed, "Believe me, you don't want the details."

She settled back into the couch and surveyed me, "It was alcohol wasn't it? He got drunk and got angry?"

I shifted uncomfortably, "How do you know that?"

"Well given the fact that he does have a history of drinking and violence, paired with the fact that I know he still drinks, but hasn't touched a single drop of it since he's been here and you two are apprehensive around each other. I'd say it's definitely that, or a contributing factor."

I inhaled, "It's a long story... He was at a bar for his friend's party and got angry and got into a bar fight. Then he came home and was already angry. We both said things, and then he- uhm... He.."

"He almost hit you." Nicko's mom said calmy, and I swallowed hard before nodding.

"Y-Yeah, that. So I told him that we were over, and I left with Mia."

Deborah sighed, "So why are you here?"

I blinked, "What?"

"Why are you here? Most women would've left him and never came back. So why are you sitting in my living room."

I sighed, "Because I have a daughter with him, and because I know what it's like to have grown up without a dad. And because I love him."

Deborah smiled, "Good answer. But, you can't just let him off of the hook. I know what it looks like when he's angry. He looks like his father, and it's scary as hell, but you need to know how to calm him down. I know it's hard not to sit there and try to reprimand him but that's only going to make it worse. Nicko can't help his temper, he gets it from his dad, but that doesn't mean he isn't responsible for his actions."

I nodded, "Yeah i've kind of learned that. I don't want him to stop drinking, I don't want him to change, I just wish he would keep a little perspective."

Nicko's mom smiled, "Well if anyone can help my son it's you. I see the way you two look at each other, the way he watches you like you're his entire world. It's amazing, every girl deserves a guy to look at her like that."

I smiled shyly, "I know, I just wish it was easier to trust him."

She rubbed my knee, "I get it, it's hard and it's forever gonna be hard because this is not going to be the last time he hurts you. But that's how relationships are."

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door and Deborah walked over to answer it.

"Jessica! We weren't expecting you!" I heard her say to the mystery person.

"Hey mom. I heard, how are you holding up?"

"As good as I can I suppose."

Nicko's mom walked into the room accompanied by a girl with dark brown hair and familiar blue eyes that regarded me with hostile confusion.

"Who the hell are you?"

I smiled, "I'm Demi. Nicko's g- uhm... Nicko's friend."

She raised an eyebrow, "Your Nik's baby momma huh? So you're the whore that's kept him away." She hissed with venom and Deborah gasped.

"Jessica! Don't you dare speak to her like that!"

"I'll speak to her any way I want." Nicko's sister spat, and gave me a death glare, "She's gonna know I don't like her, or what she's done with Nicko."

I shook my head, "I haven't 'done' anything with him."

"Oh that's what you think, but the Nicko I know is not the same one that was at that funeral."

"Really? And what's the Nicko you know?" I stood then, holding Mia to my chest.

"Oh look! You've gotten knocked up have you? Well have fun. Nicko isn't dad material. You watch, sooner or later he'll run with nothing but a note if you're lucky. How'd you even get him to stay this long? What are you after?"

I gave Mia to Nicko's mom and stepped up so I was right in Jessica's face, "You listen to me. Nicko is one of the best dad's I've ever seen. His face lights up when he walks into a room and sees his daughter. I am after nothing with Nicko except for happiness and safety. I know all about you Jessica. We've actually been through a lot of the same things. Nicko saved me from an abusive relationship and for that I will be forever grateful to him because he continues to protect me from him every single day. I don't care what you think you know about Nicko because he has completely changed for the better. I feel bad for you because you obviously can't see that."

With that, I stepped back and took Mia, walking away from both a stunned Jessica and Deborah, up into my room. I sat on the bed and buried my head into my hands, after a few moments, I picked up the phone and called Nicko.

"Hey!"

I let out a shaky breath, "Hi."

"Are you okay?"

I cracked a smile, even by one word he could read me through the phone.

"Not exactly... I just needed to hear your voice."

"Well I'm here Dems, what's going on?"

I hesitated, not wanting to rat out Nicko's sister yet not wanting to have him worry all day.

"I'll tell you when you come home... When is that exactly?"

"Miss me already?" He chuckled, and I sighed.

"Yeah. Alot actually."

He was quiet for a second, "Dems, what happened? Come on tell me."

I took a deep breath, "Your sister decided to visit."

Nicko didn't miss a beat, "I'm coming home. Now."
