Demi
"Hey Demi!" I smiled as Marissa and Kelsey walked into the backyard.
"Hey guys! You made it!"
"Of course we did!" Marissa laughed, pulling me into a hug. "I couldn't not come to my niece's first birthday party!"
"Hey!" Kelsey hit Marissa's shoulder. "I'm her godmother!"
"Kelsey." I laughed. "We're not catholic."
"Whatever." She waved her hand and hugged me. "Where is the leading lady by the way?"
"She's inside with Maddie. She's very content with ripping up wrapping paper."
They both laughed and walked into the house.
"DEMI!" I was suddenly bombarded by hugs from Joe and Nick, both of them bright eyed and laughing.
"Hey guys! Thank you so much for coming!"
"We wouldn't miss it." Nick smiled, then punched Joe's shoulder when I saw his eyes were staring a little too long on my legs. "She's all taken Joe."
"I know I know." He smiled. "You look great Dems."
"Thank you." I gave him a warm smile as more people began to show up and soon everyone was laughing and having a good time.
"Hermosa."
The hairs on the back of my neck raised and I slowly turn to see Wilmer standing in the shade on the other side of the fence. He wore a simple suit, his sleeves pushed up.
"Wilmer?" I gasped, and walked over, shutting the fence behind me. "What the hell are you doing here?!"
"I came to ask you to pick me. I know you're with him Demi, but please, pick me. I'm dying without you. I miss you. I miss everything about us. I know I look like an idiot Demi, but I can't help it. I love you."
"Wilmer. You can't do this to yourself, or to me. I'm happy with Nicko."
"But you were happier with me, when things were good. Just come with me. We'll go to Bora Bora, we'll run away."
"I can't."
"Yes you can."
"Wilmer, I'm pregnant."
There was a pause. "WHAT?"
I flinched as he roared and the music turned off in the backyard. "Shh!"
"Demi?" The gate opened and Nicko walked out. "Are you oka-" He cut off when he saw Wilmer standing there, his jaw clenching. "You have three seconds to run."
"Nicko." I reached for his hand and rubbed his arm. "Don't do it. He's leaving."
But Wilmer showed no intention of leaving. His entire body shook with rage.
"So you went and got the bitch knocked up again, huh?"
Nicko's eyes were wild but his voice was surprisingly calm. "You need to go. Now."
"You know what Nicko? I don't think we've ever had our fair fight. You've got me off guard and I never really had the change to defend myself.
"Don't listen to him baby." I begged, tugging at him arm.
"Baby." Wilmer mocked. "Funny how she used to call me that. She used to moan that."
Nicko took a step and I grabbed his arm. "NICK! JOE!"
The two brothers ran out to where we were standing. Nick instantly tensed, knowing my history with Wilmer. Joe also looked ready to restrain Nicko.
"Wilmer."Joe said. "Leave."
"Nah, how about it big man? You wanna go for another round? You wanna hit me?"
Nicko's nostrils flared and I knew he was seeing red.
"Demi." Nick murmured, and softly touched my arm. "Step back. He doesn't want to hurt you."
I shook my head. "He won't."
"You don't think so?!" Wilmer laughed, the sound rebounding across the trees. "I'd give it another year before she's black and blue."
Nicko took another warning step, his arm tugging away from mine, he drew himself to his full height, staring at Wilmer with a piercing gaze as his body shuddered. I knew if he snapped he would kill Wilmer.
"Nicko. Please." I whispered, and reached my hand out to touch the small of his back. For the first time, my touch did nothing. He stayed just as tense and angry.
"You want to hit me? Come on, hit me! HIT ME!" Wilmer roared.
"No." We all fell silent as Nicko spoke. "I want to go back to celebrating my daughter's first birthday. I want to go tell all of our friends and family that we're celebrating another life that's growing in my fiancé's stomach. I want to go back to being happy. I don't want to hit you. I want you to leave. I want you to leave and never come back."
With that, Nicko turned his back on Wilmer and wrapped his arm around me, leading me towards the fence. A force hit us from the back and I gasped as we fell onto the ground. Nicko's weight was on me for a second before he pushed himself up and Wilmer's fist smacked into the side of his head.
"Now can I hit him?" He growled. I nodded frantically and Nicko pushed off of me into a standing position, walking towards Wilmer like how a lion stalk's it's prey.
"Oh now I've got him all riled up! What's next? Huh? Might want to get a paternity test for that bastard child of yours! Cause me and Demi were fucking behind your back all night lo-" He was cut off as Nicko threw his fist forward, slamming it into Wilmer's jaw with all of his power. Wilmer crumpled onto the ground. I took a step forward to restrain Nicko, but it was done. He simply turned around and began walking.
"Take of that." He said to Joe, jerking his head towards Wilmer who was knocked out cold on the grass. Nicko didn't go into the backyard he walked up into the house and I followed, thanking Nick and Joe as they walked towards Wilmer. Nicko walked up to the bedroom and I peeked my head in the doorway.
"Nicko?"
"Demi I want to be alone for a bit."
I bit my lip and sighed. "Okay... Are we okay?"
"Yes." He sighed. "Please shut the door. "
I took a deep breath and shut the door, walking back downstairs into the kitchen where my mom was, taking things for lunch out of the fridge.
"Is Nicko okay?"
"Yeah, there was just... an incident."
"Nick told me."
I sighed and leaned on the counter, putting my head in my hands. "Fucking Wilmer."
"Do you still have feelings for him?" I looked up at my mom who was staring at me with her lips pursed.
"No. Absolutely not. I just feel bad for him. I want him to find the happiness that I have. I want him to leave me the hell alone."
"You need to go talk to Nicko."
"He wants to be alone."
"Demi." My mom gave me a look. "You need to go talk to him. Even if he tells you to leave, go talk to him. I'll handle things from down here."
I smiled gratefully. "Thank you."
I took the stairs two at time, arriving at the door to the bedroom quickly. I opened it silently and saw Nicko sitting with his back to me on the side of the bed.
"I just don't know mom. I hate when she tells me not to hit him. They were together for so long. He was with her for so much. I can't help but think I'm not able to... compare? I don't know I just don't want to hurt her. I get so angry when I see him. I feel so unstable. Every part of me just wants to protect her from him."
I tip-toed into the room and waited for his phone call to end.
"Yeah I know. I will. I'm just gonna calm down up here then- Fine mom, I'll go now. Yes, yes, I'm going. Love you too. Feel better. Bye."
He hung up and tossed the phone on the bed before laying back on it, closing his eyes and sighing. I slowly got on the bed and leaned over his face, kissing his lips upside down. Nicko's eyes didn't open. He just sat back up, leaning his elbows on his knees and putting his face in his hands. I sighed and put my hands on his shoulders, rubbing the kinked muscle there. The tension in the relaxed and slowly I massaged his whole back, placing kisses where his shirt showed skin. Finally, I sat down behind him and leaned my cheek against his back.
"How much did you hear?"
I turned his jaw so he was looking at me. "Enough." I murmured, caressing his cheek, my eyes searching his."I love you."
"I love you too."
"Are we okay?"
He turned, putting one long leg behind me and pulling me into his chest. "Yes, we're okay."
I let out a soft sob and Nicko laid back, letting me settle between his legs and on his chest, my head pressed into the crook of his neck.
"Shhh, Demi. It's okay."
"I don't love him." I whispered. "I don't have any feelings for him Nicko. I just don't want you to kill him and go to jail. I don't want him to win."
"I know."
"He doesn't compare to you. You've been with me for more than he ever will. You're the father of my children. I'll always love you more than anyone on the planet."
"I'm sorry I get so crazy." He sighed and flipped us over, burrowing his head into my hair. "I can't lose you Demi."
I scratched my nails through his hair, over his scalp. "I can't live without you. I would never in a million years choose him over you. I'd never choose anyone over you."
"Except Mia."
I clicked my tongue. "Kids don't count."
He smiled and raised his head. "Is it inappropriate to have sex on your kid's first birthday with all of your friends and family in the backyard."
"Not unless we're really, really quiet." I murmured, and smirked when I felt him against my thigh. "And only if you're really, really, quick."
"No promises."

Nicko and I walked downstairs, holding hands, about fifteen minutes later, breathing hard but fully clothed, and fully satisfied.
"There you two are!" Joe said. "It's time to eat!"
I smiled as Nicko smirked and grabbed a handful of my ass behind Joe's back as we walked outside. My mom glanced at me with a worried expression but settled down once I gave her a reassuring gaze. I sat down next to Mia and kissed her cheek, smiling at the camera Dallas pointed at us. Nicko sat next to me, his hand sliding to my thigh and his lips pressing against my cheek. Another flash went off, this time Maddie was the culprit.
"That's going on instagram." She said, smiling at the two of us.
We all ate, and eventually Nicko stood up, clearing his throat.
"I'd like to thank each of you guys for coming today. I know Mia won't remember this, but I will. It feels amazing to be accepted, and loved. Thank you to Demi's family, for accepting me as a part of theirs. Thank you for coming to celebrate my family. And we'd like to make an announcement." I stood up and Nicko smiled. "Our family is about to grow a little bit... We're having another baby."
Everyone gasped and screamed, running towards us to give me a hug and clap Nicko on the back.
"Why didn't you tell me?!" My mom squealed, hugging my tightly.
"We wanted to surprise everyone!" I laughed. "Believe me it shocked us."
"I'm so happy for you baby girl."
"HOW COULD YOU NOT TELL ME?!" Marissa yelled, pulling me into a bone-crushing hug after my mom stepped aside. "YOU BITCH."
I laughed, hugging her back. "I wanted everyone to find out together."
"Congrats. I call dibs on the godmother of this one."
Once everyone congratulated us, we sat back down to cut the cake, dealing out pieces to every while while Mia gleefully smashed hers.
"Demi."
I turned to look at Nicko only to get frosting swiped across my cheek. "No you didn't!" I gasped, my mouth falling open as Nicko roared with laughter. "Nicko!"
I grabbed a handful of cake and flung it at him, gasping when he ducked and it hit Joe right in the side of the head.
"Oh you better run girl!" He laughed, and I stood up, sprinting in the other direction as Joe ran after me with fistfuls of cake. Everyone joined in, and soon we were all covered in cake, my hair matted with frosting from Joe's precise aim. Nicko caught me around the waist as I ran past him, laughing as I smushed a handful meant for Dallas in his hair.
"I love you." He chuckled. "So much."
"I love you too. " I giggled, then squirmed away from him. "But I see the cake behind your back."
Nicko stepped forward and rubbed my cheeks with icing all over his hands.
"NICKO!" I shrieked. shoving away from him. "You're such an ass- HEY!"
He threw my over his shoulder and spun me around as our family laughed and cheered, continuing the cake fight while my mom took cover with Mia who was covered head to toe with frosting, and extremely happy about it. Nicko spun faster and faster until his foot slipped on some cake and we both went down, me landing with a thud on his chest while Nicko hit the ground full force.
"Oh ow." His face screwed up like a little kid, laughing so hard no sound was coming out. I smiled, nearly tearing up again at how happy we both were, and pressed my lips to his. Nicko kissed back, then his head fell against the grass as he began to laugh again.
"I love you." He said, smiling widely.
"I love you too baby."
We got up off the grass and went inside where everyone was trying to wipe themselves off before they got in their cars.
"Well that was fun." Nick said, trying to get cake out of his ear. Joe smiled and used the frosting to spike his hair up in a mohawk.
"Hell yeah. What do you think Dems?"
"It looks great." I smiled and leaned back into Nicko's chest. "You wear it well."
Joe and Nick hugged the both of us, kissed Mia's head, then walked out the door, laughing and shoving each other as they went. Dallas and Rob were next, gingerly hugging us because when the first piece of cake flew Dallas had sprinted inside so no one ruined her outfit. Then came Maddie and my Mom.
"I'm so happy for you Demi." My mom was tearing up again. "I'm gonna have another grand baby I'm so excited!"
I smiled and hugged her. "Thanks mom."
"Mia is cleaned up and asleep. She'll probably be knocked out for a while."
"That's great. I was wondering how I'd get her into a bath."
"I'll see you soon baby." Maddie congratulated me, as did Eddie, hugging me tightly, then they were out the door.
We said goodbye to the rest of the crew, then I sighed, sitting up on the counter while Nicko stood between my legs.
"Well that was fun."
I laughed and poked his hair. "You've got a lot of work to do in the shower."
"Well it's a good thing Mia just got put down for a long nap."
I gasped and laughed as he yanked my waist to his and picked me up by my thighs, carrying me up the stairs and into our master bathroom.
