LUKE AND Y/N stand in the kitchen, y/n sits on the counter as luke stands in front of the fridge.

"gah." julie says as she walks down the stairs and gets startled by them. "i'm never gonna get used to that." she walks over behind luke and he sighs.

y/n looks over at them, "he's been staring at the door for like, 20 minutes."

"do you guys even eat." julie asks curiously.

luke shakes his head sadly. "i just wanna see whatcha got."

julie takes the jam and closes the door, right through luke.

"hey!" luke cries. "you know how long it took me to open that?"

"like, ten minutes." y/n answers, hopping down from the counter as julie prepares a sandwich.

"sorry, i don't believe in wasting power." she tells him.

"good." luke says, going around her as y/n comes to her other side. "because that's exactly what we wanted to talk to you about."

"our power usage?"

"no," y/n corrects, "the power you have."

julie looks at the two, obviously not understanding. "your voice." luke tells her. "your piano playing. dude, you're like a human recking ball."

"but can't y/n also do those things?"

"yeah, but not a lot of people can." she tells julie.

"is this supposed to be a pep talk?" julie chuckles.

"what we're saying," luke continues, "that you have the power to move people."

"to knock them off their feet." y/n adds. "and there is no way that your teachers wouldn't let you back into school." she says, putting her fist down on the table, emphasizing her point, "especially if they heard you play like that."

"i asked her." julie sighs, scooping out the peanut butter, "she said i'll have to wait until next semester."

"that's was your first mistake." luke points out. "asking." he shakes his head, he hops up onto the counter and y/n sits next to him, "sunset curve booked gigs by doing. we went into ambush mode."

"we played in front of clubs. we played in back of clubs." y/n lists, "we even played in book clubs."

"book clubs?" julie asks.

"yeah." she admits.

"we didn't get many gigs out of that one, but they did have some pretty gnarly snacks" luke adds on, making y/n nod her head. "i'm just saying, don't ask for permission." he looks down and hops off, pulling y/n with him. "swing that wrecking ball of talent at your teacher's head, and smash those stupid rules right outta their brains." he says enthusiastically.

"they won't even know what hit them." y/n says.

"this isn't a club, it's a school, and your plan sounds violent. and violence is never the answer." she says, reaching behind them to grab a glass.

"no, you're right. violence isnt the answer. but it's a question," y/n says. "and the answer is yes. it's a closed door, and you gotta bust it open."

julie sighs and walks back to the fridge, luke and y/n following. "sorry, the metaphors just keep coming." he apologizes. "we learned that in book club. helpful for writing lyrics."

"they're not just gonna let me back in." julie says, walking right through luke.

"if getting back into music is what you want, then you gotta go for it." luke tells her and y/n agrees. "learn from us. your tainted hot dog could be right around the corner." he whispers as she stops the sandwich that was going into her mouth, setting it back down.

she sighs and looks back to them, "i don't even have anything prepared."

"thought you might say that." y/n says as luke pulls a paper out of his pocket. "it's called 'bright.'" she says, nodding to the paper.

"it's a sunset curve song we wrote together that we never got to record." luke says, nodding to y/n as he open the paper, "but it's perfect for your range.

"and check out the chorus of a second." y/n says. "if you add a little bit of piano, i'm telling you, and i would know. and rise," she sings,

"through the night," luke joins in, both of them singing effortlessly, "you and i, we will fight to shine together, bright forever." julie flips over the paper to follow along with their voices, "and rise through the night,"

"you and i," julie joins the two, "we will fight to shine together,"

"and now we go up high," y/n tells her,

"bright forever." y/n and julie go high as luke stays on the low part, harmonizing together.

"yes!" y/n says, excitedly.

"thanks." julie tells the both of them.

y/n and luke share a look of excitement.

THE BAND TELEPORTS to the school, behind julie and flynn who are off to the side as another group in sparkly costumes perform.

"what are you guys doing here?" julie snaps at them,

"we want to see you stick it to the man." luke answers. "it's that right guys?"

"man i miss high school." reggie says as he looks to the girls performing.

"ha, i don't." y/n says as she looks over the crowd. "it was hell." she watches as they perform. "i'm guessing that's the h-b-i-c of this school?" she says, motioning to carrie.

"yep." julie sighs.

alex starts to move to the beat and y/n smacks him, "dude." she whispers, "not now."

the girls end and after she talks to the crowd, the exit.

"thank you dirty candy." the principal says as she and the music teacher walk onto the floor.

"dirty candy?" y/n snickers and so does luke.

"now's your chance." flynn whispers to julie, "go talk to her. see you in music class." she says with a huge smile.

"that was sweet." the principal continues, "ok then. before we let you go, we have a few more announcements..."

"what are you waiting for?" reggie asks julie. "it's your time!"

"yeah, i mean, you look really nervous," alex tells her, "like yak in a bowl nervous."

"not helping!" y/n says through gritted teeth.

julie sighs again, "i just don't think i had enough time to work on the song."

"we wouldn't have given you the song if we didn't think we were gonna rock it." luke tells her.

"now, there's a piano on the stage with your name on it!" y/n says, trying to hype her up.

julie nods and exits the gym to go around to the stage.

the crowd cheers as the principal finishes her speech. they start to exit the bleachers as julie gets to the stage. she turns on the piano and sits down. she starts to play the beginning notes, but stops abruptly.

y/n bites her nails and luke cheers for her, "you got this!"

she starts playing again and the band watches nervously. then she starts to sing, "sometimes i think i'm falling down," the light comes on her and enlightens the stage. "i wanna cry, i'm calling out, for one more try," the crowd of students stops to listen to her voice, "to feel alive," the band listens to her excitedly as she plays, "and when i feel lost and alone i know that i can make it home. fight through the dark, and find the spark." most of the traffic has stopped as she sings, "life is a risk, but i will take it, close my eyes and jump," luke rubs y/n's shoulders as she sings, happy for her. y/n puts her hand on top his his and smiles. "together, i think that we can make it."

"come on, let's give her a little back up." y/n whispers to the boys. "they can't see us, but they can hear us."

"c'mon let's run!" julie sings as they teleport to the stage, their instruments too.

"and rise through the night," he crowd cheers the the ghosts appear on stage, julie smiling as well. "you and i," she laughs and stands up, her confidence rising, walking around reggie, luke, and y/n as they play their instruments."we will fight to shine together, bright forever!" the students come to the stage to watch their performance, "and rise through the night, you and i, we will fight to shine together," julie looks at the crowd as well as y/n, realizing people are looking at her. not through her. "bright forever!"

"uh is this really happening?" y/n asks julie and luke.

"just go with it." luke laughs happily.

"in times that I doubted myself," luke sings into the mic, "i felt like I needed somе help. stuck in my head with nothing left!"

"i feel somеthing around me now," y/n joins in, their voices stronger together, "so unclear, lifting me out i found the ground i'm marching on,"

reggie joins luke at his mic as, the three singing together, "life is a risk, but we will take it, close my eyes and jump. together, I think that we can make it, c'mon let's run!"

"and rise through the night," julie joins back in, singing with them, "you and i, we will fight to shine together, bright forever!" the crowd cheers loudly for them as they sing their hearts out, "and rise through the night, you and i we will fight to shine together, bright forever!" they go high on the last phase, the kids going wild.

"in times that i doubted myself," y/n sings alone, "i felt like i needed some help," luke runs over to her and the crowd cheers as they play together, "stuck in my head with nothing left!"

"and when I feel lost and alone," julie sings as she smiles at the two, "i know that i can make it home. fight through the dark, and find the spark." she walks through the two as they come around her, earning gasps from the crowd.

"and rise" julie sings

"rise" the boys echo them,

"through the night," y/n and luke sing as julie holds the previous note

"through the night," reggie and alex echo,

"you and i" y/n and luke sing, smiling to each other

"we will fight to shine together," the band sings with each other

"we will shine together," julie sings over them,

"bright forever!"

"bright forever!"

"and rise!" the boys sing,

"rise!" julie and y/n sing, their voice higher.

"through the night,"

"we will fight to shine together," everyone sings together "bright forever!" julie and y/n go high and harmonize with the boys, the crowd going wild.

the song comes to an end as they all breath heavily. they all take a bow together, and as they come up, the ghosts disappear.

or, they can no longer be seen by the other people.

the crowd of students gasps, but they clap nonetheless, thinking it was all part of the show.
