Chapter 12

< Alexandria's POV >

Is he for real? How could he say such a thing?

She's hot. So I had to do it. I had to touch her. We're men, we satisfy our souls and pleasures.

Seriously? What kind of person is he?

And he even dared to ask the principal if he was a man?

Damn, it looks like I was wrong after all about him.

I actually thought he was a gentleman.

I can't believe I ever had feelings for him.

I wonder what he was going to do next.

Apologise?

I don't think so.

                            ***

"What happened out there?"

Sharon.

"Nothing much, just feeling... exhausted," I said and started playing with the food on my plate.

"You don't look at all exhausted. Really now, what's wrong?"

Does she always have to be so insistent?

"It's Blaze. He's...really not what I expected him to be. Sharon, I don't think he's a nice guy. I mean, he insulted me in front of the principal."

"Seriously? That's...unbelievable. I mean, sure he gets into lots of trouble because of his stubbornness but insulting? I've never really knew him like that," Sharon said and seemed really confused.

Does she know this guy well?

Why didn't she tell me about him earlier?

"Who is he, Sharon? How do you know him?"

She fidgeted nervously and played with her fingers.

"I knew him ever since we were born. Our parents were really close friends and they knew each other for a long time. That was how we became close."

"But?"

"But after a while, we didn't keep in touch. His family sort of "disappeared". It happened a few years ago and that's why I was shocked when I saw him again."

"Oh I get it now. But why do you think he came back?" I asked.

"I don't even know why he left," Sharon said.

That's strange.

"Well, anyways, what do you think we should do?" I asked Sharon as she sat beside me, closing her eyes.

"I think we should give him another chance. I know Blaze well enough that he didn't mean what he said. He was probably just, you know, being protective?" Sharon said.

"Protective? Why? It's not like I matter to him."

Or do I?

"Why don't you ask him yourself? He will definitely give you a better explanation," Sharon smiled and I nodded my head slowly.

Well, I'll pray hard for that.

  ***

I guess there's only one way to find out.

I have to talk to him. But I bet it's gonna be really awkward especially after what happened.

School just ended and it I swear it feels so good. And where on earth is he?

I felt someone tap my shoulder and I quickly spun around.

Nope, it's just Bridget, one of my classmates.

"Who are you waiting for?" she said and sat down beside me on one of the marble stone benches.

"I'm not exactly waiting, just wondering if he will turn up."

"Who?"

"Bridget, I don't really wanna talk about this and besides, don't you have to go home or something? I don't wanna make you late."

Okay, I sound annoying but I just  want her gone.

"Oh yeah my mom wanted me to come early for lunch, I'll get going now. See ya tomorrow."

"Okay, bye."

Finally she's gone.

Anxiety kicks in as every minute passes.

Maybe he already left?

Why would he want to see me anyway?

Why do I feel like this?

What if something bad happens?

I tried to calm myself down as those terrifying yet annoying questions rung continuously in my head.

Then I saw him.

He was with his friends and they were just laughing along as he walked between them, right in the middle.

Should I call out to him?

No, I'll wait for him to notice me.

He was smiling but when he turned around and saw me, his smile faded away gradually.

I watched as he waved goodbye to his friends and started walking towards me.

He excused himself and the boys snickered as he walked towards me, avoiding eye contact.

His smile was turning upside down as he took slow and big steps, deliberately stalling for time as a small frown appeared on his face.

As he came closer, I felt butterflies in my stomach as I quickly took quick breaths and prepared myself for his apology- if it was even happening.

"Hey... Urm look I'm really sorry about what happened- I wasn't thinking- I'm very sorry," he said as he stumbled on his words and his eyes never met mine.

I wasn't gonna deny it, he looked adorable.

I couldn't help but to let out a giggle and he stared at me questioningly.

"D-did I say something wrong? I'm really sorry. I mean it."

We stared at each other in silence for a while, I swear that was the most uncomfortable minute of my life.

"Nah, it's okay. It wasn't that bad...",  I smiled at him.

"Are you sure? Sharon said you were really pissed. Well I mean I was still wrong so... I can make it up to you, if you want? I was thinking maybe a treat? How about Denny's?"

And at that moment I didn't know whether I was supposed to slap him or hug him.

I chose none of the above, instead I gave him my signature smile.

"Sure, I think that'd be great."

"Wow.  Ok urm... later? Or if you're free we can go now? I'm free anyway so..." he said, scratching his head again.

This is definitely awkward.

"Oh. Oh-yeah sure I don't mind. We can go now," I shrugged my shoulders and just smiled and I swear to god I looked like some nervous wreck.

"Okay. Wait here, I'll get my car, " his eyes were gleaming when he said that.

I haven't been to Denny's in like
ages. I've missed everything about it, the milkshakes, the pancakes, sandwiches, especially the memories.

The last time we went there, we meaning me, my mom and well daddy too, we had a blast. It was my birthday. Everything just felt perfect at that moment. I was just a little kid, adoring the love my parents gave me and begged for more. We sat there at the corner of the restaurant, laughing like lunatics at each other's silliness. It felt like  nothing else mattered as I stuffed their faces with cake icing and they tickled me till I couldn't breathe. It felt like the best day in a 5-year-old's life.

But who knew? It could all disappear within seconds. Everything. Just gone.

"Alex? I said the car's here and I'm ready," Blaze stared at me.

"Oh, urm yeah sure let's go," I'm really bad at this, aren't I?

"Are you okay? I literally told u that you could go in like three times."

Damn it.

"Oh no it's nothing. I just spaced. Sorry it's just that there are some...stuff going on and I'm just- Yeah, " I put on my seatbelt and he started the engine.

"Do you wanna talk about it?"

"No, it's fine, really. Hey, thanks for this. I really appreciate it," I smiled as he drove away.

"Thank me later, we're not even there yet. What if it's not something you expected?" he smirked at me as he increased the volume or the music.

The only thing that could be heard then was our laughter as we teased each other and "Paradise" by Coldplay on the radio.

***

"Alright, we're here."

I glanced around the surroundings as I slowly stepped out of the car, absorbing every ounce of memory left.

"Hey, you ok? Dude, you're scaring me."

I giggled and rolled my eyes, "I'm fine, I'm fine. Let's go in."

"Ladies first," he said as he opened the door of the diner and I rolled my eyes again as I stepped in.

The memory feels so vivid now, I could still see that corner table where we sat, it was empty just like how I feel right now.

"You wanna sit there?" he asked and I quickly shook my head.

"No, anywhere but there. Let's sit over there," I said as I pointed to another table far away.

"Okay then. Pancakes for me, what about you?" Blaze said as he flipped the menu.

"What else? Denny's literally famous for their pancakes," I smiled. I didn't even have to pick up the menu, I ordered exactly what I did years ago.

"I would like to have the Salted Caramel & Banana Cream Breakfast, " I said and the waiter penned it down on her notepad.

"Damn, someone's getting really fancy," Blaze smirked as he looked up from his menu.

"All right then, I would like the Choconana Pancake Breakfast," he said to the waiter and then he winked at me.

Jeez, what's with this guy?

The waiter penned down everything and right before she left, she bent down and whispered in my ear, "I had one like him too, good luck."

My face immediately reddened as I smiled at her and watched her walk away, grinning.

Did she think we were dating? Gosh, I would never date such an idiot.

"What happened? What did she tell you?" Blaze asked, burning with curiosity.

"Something stupid. Something that I hope will never come true," I said to him as he stared at me blankly.

"What do you m-"

"Do you mind? I'm tired."

He just stared at me questioningly then sighed.

"Fine."

He looked down and decided to look at anything else except me. He looked out at the window and I noticed his smile drooping.

Damn it, was I being too mean? I mean he did take the time off his busy schedule to do this for me and it's not like I'm someone special or deserving of any of this.

God, I'm such a bitch.

"Um, Blaze?"

He looked up at me.

"I'm sorry if I was being too mean. I really didn't mean to hurt your feelings, I guess I'm just not in the mood today."

He slowly smiled at me and said, "Hey now, it's okay. I wasn't bothered by it, it's all good."

He placed his hand on mine to comfort me and I felt a strange tingling feeling. Oddly, it made me smile.

After a while, the food came. I noticed something written on the napkin that was placed underneath my plate. Out of curiosity, I read it.

It said: "If you need some advice to spice things up, call me."

The person signed off as Nancy and she left her number under her name.

Shit, is she trying to hit me up or something?

I slowly cocked my head and looked at her and she winked at me.

Okay, she's definitely trying to hit me up. Great. Not only do I now have a Nancy Drew, pun totally intended, trying to solve my problems but she's definitely trying to hit on me.

Should I keep the napkin? Will I need it? Should I need it? Ugh it's just a napkin! I quickly folded it and kept it in my pocket.

I swear, I over think way too much.

"Hey, you okay? Why aren't you eating? You want me to steal your f-"

"Oh no you don't! This food is mine," I didn't let him finish speaking and I quickly gobbled down my food.

He laughed at me and said I had honey all over my mouth.

"If it helps, I can wipe it off for you," he winked at me and I almost choked on my damn pancake.

Seriously?!? First, the excessive pinching of cheeks. Now, the weird creepy winking. What's next?! Are people gonna start blowing kisses at me?

Embarrassed, I quickly grabbed a napkin and wiped my mouth. I then laughed at him and said he had cream on his nose and mouth!

He pretended to be shocked and quickly wiped his nose and mouth with a napkin. We both stared at each other for a while then bursted out into laughter once more, together. We are such weird, childish kids. Yes, kids. Stupid, loud kids that made people shake their heads at us in the restaurant. We quickly finished our food and Blaze paid for all of it, of course. The perfect gentleman he was.

I tired to pay for my own food but he insisted that he would pay and I just rolled my eyes. All this while when Blaze was making payment, creepy Nancy Drew was still staring at me with that creepy smirk and giving me another of her creepy winks. I rolled my eyes and told Blaze that we should leave immediately. I can't stand another creepy vibe from this strange girl.

Just as we were about to leave, she stood at the entrance and said, "Thanks for coming today, hope to see you again."

"Especially you," she whispered in my ear as I walked past her and I felt a rain of chills going down my spine.
