Chapter 2

Princess Issues

Alicia Knights grunted as her nurse tied a black bow around her waist. She glared at her when she had accidentally tightened it too much.

"Apologies, Mistress Alicia," the nurse apologized and the young girl simply nodded.

She smoothed her gown out and stared at herself in the mirror. The dress she wore was the one she had chosen for Emma's wedding. It was Ali's last fitting before the royal family left for the Charming's castle.

"Yes this will do," she said confidently and the nurse helped her out of the dress. She took the dress from the girl and handed it to a laundry maid, who rushed away to steam her gown one last time. The nurse helped Ali get into a more casual dress before fixing the young girl's hair. Alicia's watched from the mirror as the nurse carefully tied her hair up into a bun, with her little baby hairs escaping the hairdo. Slicking back as much as she could, the nurse finished and left with no other word. Ali was left to her loud thoughts.

Alicia always thought she looked like her mother, whoever she might be. She was orphaned as a baby, not knowing who her parents were or of her descendants. But what Alicia did know and what she dreamed, is that her mother had dark thick hair just like her. Ali was sure she was as stunning as her mother.

Regina, long ago, had cast a curse that had sent them back to a land where magic didn't exist. After one hell of an adventure, the fairytale characters returned to their native land and had regained their old lives once again. Regina had taken Alicia in when she was living on the streets in Storybrooke, the old town where they once lived, and Ali couldn't be more thankful. She continued to live with Regina and her family in her castle.

Henry Mills, Regina's adoptive son, had become a good friend of Ali. They went on many journeys together, and they looked very much like siblings. Henry lived with his biological mother, Emma, but would constantly visit Regina and Alicia, almost always talking very highly of his girlfriend, Lily, who both Regina and Ali were very excited to meet at Emma's wedding.

Alicia would also visit Henry in his home, but she tried to refrain from going too often, mostly because she could not handle the Charming's and their kindness and heroism. It annoyed her how much good they had in them. Some would say Alicia Knights was Regina's little twin.

And just like Regina, Alicia had a bad past. She wasn't an innocent little girl when she had to fend for herself in the olden days back in the Enchanted Forest and even in Storybrooke. She didn't have Regina to guide her in a motherly fashion. Ali had to fight and take on the world all by herself.

When Regina met Alicia, the girl was stuck at the age of 15. Regina felt sympathy for her and took her in. She gave Ali a home in her giant mansion in Storybrooke. When the town's clock began to tick again, it meant Regina's reign was coming to an end. She feared what would happen to Henry and Alicia. But Regina was pardoned of her actions and she was given the chance to see the kids she raised grow up. Regina knew Alicia would one day become queen in her place.

Emma was next in line for the throne of her kingdom and Henry followed afterward. Regina's other son, Roland, was too young to take on her throne and she needed someone as her suppressor. Regina knew from day one that Ali would make an excellent queen. Alicia, though she was fearful of what being queen would bring to her, didn't want to disappoint Regina and she agreed.

Alicia needed a coronation. One so she could officially be named a princess of the Enchanted Forest. It was a simple stepping stone, one that would lead to a bigger purpose.

Usually, the royal court went against the idea of someone with no real status or blood to be worthy of the crown, but when Regina had talked to them about making Alicia the next queen of the Enchanted Forest, they had accepted it. It was something that constantly kept Alicia up at night but she wasn't one to complain. She was to one day be queen. She tried telling Regina of her past and how if everyone knew of what she had done, they definitely wouldn't want her sitting on their throne. But Regina would just retort by saying she herself had done worse.

In her past, Alicia belonged to a group of criminals. She used to run with a band of pirates. Her friends weren't the noblest group out there and Alicia soon belonged to one of the most feared pirate companies to ever terrorize the magic realms. When the company had been overthrown and a new pirate lord took over her section, her band ran for cover before they were forced to walk the planks.

She had been the only one spared.

Ali sighed and rubbed her forehead. Her headache increased so much, a nearby large flower vase suddenly exploded and shattered into pieces. The young girl didn't even seem fazed by the works of her magic. The stress was beginning to get to her. She couldn't always control her powers and her emotions.

It was part of the reason she was so afraid of becoming queen.
