VIII

I don't live in darkness.

Darkness lives in me.

It was a funny thing when people were cowering underneath you. The fear in their eyes told you something you always wanted to know. Fear was what kept Jason going. Fear was what kept him alive.

He stared blankly into the little girl's teary eyes as he stood in their living room, holding her father in his arms. His breathing was quick and unsteady because of the fear he held in.

"Daddy, who is he?" the girl squealed shakily while studying Jason's masked figure.

The smirk on the blond's face grew wider as he took an intake of breath. Right when her father was about to speak, Jason's arm moved in one swift motion, his knife cutting the soft flesh of his neck.

••••••

Blood is leaking out of the wound in huge amounts as the little girl begins screaming. I let her dad's limp body fall out of my arms and onto the floor as he makes unpleasant gagging noises. A cold breeze blows throughout the house from the open door causing goosebumps to rise on my skin. Sirens blare throughout the neighborhood. My senses kick in right at that moment.

The man had been woken up by his daughter for a glass of water. When he walked into the kitchen I took him into my arms just as the daughter walked in. He screamed at first until I told him to shut up or I'd kill him. Obviously, the neighbors heard the scream or else the cops wouldn't of been nearby.

I take one last look at the crying girl's big green eyes before turning and running out of the door. Before you ask, yes I still have my knife in my gloved hand. As I was running through backyards I glance down at the bloody knife and smile to myself. The dark red sticky substance is very alluring. How can people not want to kill when they get to see this fascinating liquid?

Twigs snap and leaves crunch as the weight of my body stumbles upon them. Trees fly past in a blur with the moonlight peaking every now and then. The red, blue, and white lights have now disappeared from sight as my house comes into view. I run my way into the clearing of my home and slow down once I get to the door. I knock softly twice and hard once, then repeating the pattern. I hear footsteps in the house getting closer to the door, meaning Justin heard our code knock.

His face appears in the door way as the rest of his body stands behind the door like I taught him. Those big brown eyes study me intently for a minute. They flicker from my mask and then to my knife. Finally, he lets me in, knowing what my knife and mask look like. His cute button nose scrunches up in disgust as I walk by.

Did I just say cute? No, I don't believe I did. My eyebrows furrow in confusion as he continues to look at me.

"You smell," he murmurs softly.

I quickly smell myself before nodding and hurrying up the steps. A little giggle leaves his lips as walk into my room. I pull out a pair of black boxers and a pair of red and black Nike joggers. Once in the bathroom, I strip out of my clothes and set my still bloodied knife on the counter. I let the water warm up to my liking and then hop in.

~Next Morning~

The sunlight shines in my eyes from the gray curtains which happen to be open. I rub my eyes and push the blankets off of my shirtless body. A groan escapes my lips as a shooting pain goes through my neck. That's what I get for sleeping the wrong way, I guess.

As I make my way down the stairs and into the kitchen, I notice my phone on the kitchen counter with a note stuck to the screen. It read:

You forgot to charge your phone last night so I took it from the living room and plugged it into the wall this morning. I'll be at school.

-Justin

The phone is in fact plugged into the wall so I turn it on and glance at the time. 12:46 pm. Justin should be back at around 2:30 so I decide to go out for a while. I take another shower and brush my teeth. Once I do my hair and put some fresh clothes on, I'm out the door and on my way to my uncle's house. Might as well have a talk with him about the phone call.

Sleep isn't just sleep anymore.

It's an escape.

(Economics is 12th grade history FYI.)

Justin

I sit there in my sixth period just tuning in to what is being said by my economics teacher, Mr. Fleming, every now and again. It has been a week since I found my parents dead. I'm still not over it but it isn't as worse as before. I'm not going to sit here and sulk, I'm going to remember them. I can hear my name being called by the teacher so I look up and meet his annoyed gaze.

"Yes?" I ask softly.

"First of all, pay attention. Second of all, list four examples of things versus information." he said sternly.

I sigh irritably before speaking while looking straight into the teacher's eyes. "When a thing is sold, seller owns it. Idea, blueprint is sold, seller still possesses it. Things can be replicated only through the expense of manufacture. Information can be replicated almost zero cost without limit. Things wear out, their performance deteriorates with wear and tear. Information never wears out, although it can be obsolete or simply untrue. A thing exits in a location, and therefore a unique legal jurisdiction. Information is nowhere and everywhere."

A smirk comes across my face as his jaw drops and he immediately turns around. Everybody is looking at me but I could care less. I go back to my thoughts which include my parents and most of all, Jason. The bell rings just in time for us to head to our last period so I quickly stick my drawing notebook in my bag. Finally, choir here I come.

***

I pull into the driveway of Jason's, well our, house. We both live in it so it's ours, I guess? The tress that fill Medford, Oregon surround the house. I open the door and head up to my room but not before setting the keys to Jason's scotia gray Range Rover on the kitchen counter.

A few hours pass before Jason get's home. I'm still sitting in 'my' room when I hear the code knock but a little harsher. I quickly run down the steps and peek out the peep hole before opening the door. He stands there with a very annoyed look on his face before he storms past me and plops down on the couch.

A concerned look takes over my facial features as I peer at him. What's wrong with him?

"My uncle found out about last night. One of his friends work as a police officer and when he questioned the little girl to see what I possibly looked like, my uncle made out the details but never told him. So when I drove the two hours over there, he got pissed at me. That's when he called his buddy and gave him a hint as to where we were.

He didn't tell exactly where but he said our house was surrounded by woods. So luckily it'll take them until after your graduation to find this house."

The words hit me like a bat so I slump down next to him.

"You said that thought out loud by the way," He mutters as he notices my confused face. I nod and blushed softly.

"So this means?" I ask looking straight into his eyes, trying to read his thoughts. I know I am not going to like this.

"We have to get out of here as soon as possible after your graduation," He finishes.

I nod once more before my hand instinctively starts rubbing circles into his knee.

I find myself doing it so I stop and blush even harder. As I go to take my hand away, he grabs it with his own and sets it back on his knee. That causes me to go back to rubbing circles into it because it seems to be calming him down. I let out a loud sigh before resting my head on the couch. My eyes start to flutter as I become extremely tired. Sleep takes over me as my head slips from the cushion to Jason's shoulder. I feel his arm wrap around me and his fingers start playing with my hair as darkness consumes me.

Whenever they move, I will give a house tour in the chapter and show ya'll the cars as well.

1513 words. Ya'll are welcome XD.

I usually don't write that much.

Love ya'll.
