Just as a tall, handsome man was walking towards his book shop, he saw a stranger, lying on the ground bleeding from various wounds, just at the edge of the village. He rushed to help him. When he reached the stranger, he realized he was more dead than alive. If he didn't help him now, this person would soon die.

Immediately the shop owner carried the stranger back to his home while asking his neighbors to bring the doctor to him. Between himself and the doctor and after several long days and nights they felt he just might survive.

The stranger remained in a coma for a full week. The shop owner tirelessly took care of the stranger. He didn't know why but he felt strongly that he must save him and that the reason why would be revealed once he woke up. Other than the doctor he trusted his care to no one. He wanted to be there when the stranger finally opened his eyes.

He was not disappointed. When the stranger opened his eyes the shop owner gasped. His eyes were the color of light amber. He had never seen eyes this color in all his life. He fell into those amber pools never to resurface again. He fell in love at first sight.

The stranger also felt a pull towards his savior but he didn't want it so he ignored it. The stranger fell into a fevered state not long after, the owner never left his side. He bathed the sweat from his body, gave him medication when he could keep it down and eventually when the tremors and chills took over his body the owner laid down with him and held him tight until the fever broke.

Soon the stranger slowly began to recover. He became anxious when the shop owner wasn't there and began to cherish his gentle touches whenever he tended to his wounds. At first he tried to reason it was only out of gratitude but slowly he realized it was a need he had felt before. A need to be close and a need to do everything he could to see him smile. After they shared their first kiss, he no longer had the desire to be anywhere but here in this man's arms. He felt saved by this man. He wanted to love and live again.

They fell deeply in love and were inseparable. The villagers soon came to understand and accept their love for each other. They lived a long and happy life. His partner Wang Zi refused to travel so he spent many a night telling him stories of his travels till he would fall asleep. His lover often asked him where he came from and did others have his color eyes. He never answered, he couldn't answer and he wouldn't answer. Finally Wang Zi stopped asking and accepted he would never know. Lan Chen would never be the cause of this lover's death. Once was enough for one lifetime.
