III - Getting into Trouble
I didn't sleep on the bed last night. I floated over it. I don't know, I just figured out how to levitate myself while unconscious consciously. It's weird for anyone who walks in on me.
There was a lot of banging last night. I'm a really light sleeper, so it was hard to sleep. The stars painted on the walls helped less than I thought they would. I thought they would remind me of when I used to sleep outside as a little girl, but nothing.
I don't know what the banging was, but I have a pretty good idea. It probably got curious. The thing I stole. I want to give it a name, but I don't know what. It's really pretty, which makes me want to give it a girl's name, but it's really rough; which would warrant a boy's.
What am I saying? Its an it. Not a who, a what...I guess? I'm honestly not sure what it is. I haven't taken it out of the box. It's not like I was told not to, I just don't want to take it out.
Wait, where is it? I quickly jump up and snap on my cloak. It seems to be dawn. I know Raven gets up around now, but I have no idea about the others.
Its not in here. Maybe I should check the living room.
Its not in here either, but it was. Stuff is literally all over the place. The couch is kind of ripped and I'm pretty sure those glasses aren't supposed to be broken.
"Morning Avia." I jump at the voice.
"Oh sorry. Did I scare you?" I turn around to Robin with a cup of something hot.
"Yeah. A little."
"Funny. It's usually Raven who has that affect on people."
"Speaking of Raven have you seen her?"
"Nope. I'm always the first up. I usually go to the gym and then back up here for coffee. If Raven comes out its usually when I'm going or come back. Haven't seen her during either. She might be coming out for her tea soon. Or to read a book on the couch before Cy wakes up and starts yelling her eardrums out."
"Thanks." He looks at me suspiciously.
"Hey, you looking for something?" What?
"Uh...no. What are you? A detective?"
"Actually, yes I am." Oops.
"Oh. Sorry. Why do you ask?"
"Hmm. No reason."
"Did you uh...See who did this?" I point to the couch and the glass.
"No. It was probably Silkie." He replies.
"Silkie?"
"Starfire's pet larva. He eats things sometimes. A lot of times. If any of your stuff goes missing, tell Star and she'll buy you a new one." He chuckles.
"Duly noted." Then I run off. Being in conversation for this long makes me uncomfortable.
I check each door that doesn't have a name on the front and tread carefully so don't wake anyone up.
That's the bathroom....This is...a stairwell? It only goes up.
Roof Access. Hmm... Could it have gone to the roof?
I'm just going to call it Box for now.
"Box!" I whisper yell remembering it's early in the morning. I run up the stairs and open the door to the roof.
How did I not see the volleyball court? Or the basketball court? I am so oblivious sometimes.
"Box? Are you up here?" I look around and see a deflated volleyball in the corner jumping up and down.
"There you are!" I run over and take the volleyball off of it. It stops jumping and just hovers in the air.
The box is about the same size as a ring box. Not the same shape though. It's a perfect cube.
Easily lost.
It's purple, teal, and black with silver (I think metal) accents. The lid only comes off when it's moving around a lot and the only thing I can see inside is darkness.
The only thing I know about it is that it is a powerful "relic" I guess you could say from Azerath and it shouldn't be in evil hands. Especially not Trigon's hands. He had it, and I stole it. Simple.
It likes me more anyways.
"You've been all over this Tower haven't you? Luckily there's another little animal here that can be blamed for your mess." It makes a little sad,
deflated noise. It sounds almost ethereal in a way.
"I'm not mad. Please just be careful. You and I shouldn't be out in the open like this. They could come back at any time." It makes a happy noise. This thing is very emotional.
"Come on. Cloak." I say and open my cloak like a wing. It flies in and morphs with the shadows.
"Remember, be quiet."
I walk downstairs and sit on the couch. Starfire is in here now.
"Hey, um, Starfire?"
"Yes?"
"Do you have a paper and pencil?" I ask shyly.
"I believe so. Why?"
"I uh, just like to draw."
"Oh joyous! I shall fetch the paper!" She quickly flies away to get the paper and pencil and came back.
"Thanks."
"You are welcome!" She speaks so oddly. And she doesn't look human. The green sclera are a dead give away.
"Hey Starfire?"
"Yes?"
"Are you...human?" That sounded bad.
"No!" She said that a little too happily. "I am from Tamaran!"
"Where's that?"
"It is a far off planet. However, it is not a beautiful as it once was."
"Why?"
"The Gordanians waged war on Tamaranians."
"Oh. Sorry I asked."
"No it is ok. I do not mind. Was it the tone of my skin or the color of my eyes? That is what usually makes people question weather I a human or not."
"It was the eyes." I reply.
"What are you drawing?" She leans over my shoulder. "Is it me?" I nod.
"You are very good. Your affinity for creating art must be equivalent to Raven's affinity for knowledge and books." I just shrug.
"You are, quite shy yes?" I nod.
"Hmm. Perhaps you should draw all of the Titans. We are all friends now are we not?" I shrug again.
"I guess."
"Mornin' ya'll!" Cyborg walks in with his hands raised.
"Good Morning friend Cyborg!"
"Mornin' Star. Whatcha doin' there Avia?"
"She is drawing me!"
"You draw? That's really cool."
"Thanks." I shade in her hair.
"She was up quite early this morning. Earlier than Raven. She entered before you did and told me she had just woken up." Hm. Go figure.
"What about Beast Boy?"
"Oh. Don't worry about him. 10-11. You have some time before he does anything stupid. Ha!" Cyborg replies. I return to my drawing. I'm only drawing Star from the waist up, so I shadow the torso and finalize the eyes, taking one last glance at her before I put my pencil down.
"Here." I give her the paper.
"This is very good!" I blush a little. She smiles a large wide smile.
Then Box makes a happy sound in my cloak and I stop blushing.
"What was that?" Cyborg asks.
"What was what?" I play dumb.
"There was this squeaking noise, find of thing. I swear it came from you." I shrug.
Box makes a mischievous noise.
"There it was again." He gets closer to me.
"I didn't hear anything." Then I get up and walk away. In the hallway I bump into Raven and Box makes another sound, but much much quieter than last time.
Not in front of Raven, Box. She is the worst person to reveal yourself to...
"Morning Raven."
"Morning Avia."
"Where are you going?"
"Just to the ops room to read a book."
"I was just there drawing. Starfire and Cyborg wouldn't stop talking..."
"Figured."
"Starfire liked my drawing."
"What'd you draw?"
"Her. It was the first thing I could think of since I was talking to her." I look at the floor, then back up at her.
"Hey, did you hear any banging earlier?"
"Yes. And glass breaking. I've been up since before dawn, and I know you were running around."
"Oh...I wasn't breaking anything. Robin told me it might have been Silkie. Starfire's pet larva?"
"Probably." Just then I hear barking.
"What do you guys have a dog?" She narrows her eyes and let's out a big sigh.
"No. We have a Beast Boy." Then all of a sudden a green dog tackles me to the floor and starts licking my face. Out of fear I morph into the ground.
"Aw...sorry Av. Didn't mean to scare you."
"I told you Beast Boy, she gets scared easily. I told you not to do that."
"Eh. I thought it was funny! Heh heh!"
I morph out of the ground. Box is gone again. Crap. I look around in my cloak and on the floor.
"You lookin' for something?"
"I...uh...no." I lie.
"Sure doesn't look like it." Raven replies.
"Um..." I morph into the floor again. But at one last glance I see them staring at something on me.
I hate confrontation and I hate looking awkward.
I'm more defense than offense and you'll probably find me running away or hiding rather than fighting. I don't like doing that, but my instinct tells me to choose flight instead of fight. Literally.
Now I have to find Box before–
!!!!!
It's right under Star's feet! I can't let her see it!!
"Azerath Metrion Zinthos!" I whisper. Good thing none of them see me. I pull it out and grasp it in my hands.
I run to the hall to hide.
"What are you doing?! They're all awake!" It makes it's sad noise.
"You can't be this brazen and reckless in a tower full of people who have superpowers and one's a detective!" It makes another sad noise.
"You know what? That's what I'll call you. Brazen." It makes its happy noise. "I guess you like that. Fine. Just don't come out until I say it's ok. Got it?" It jumps up and down in my hand. I hold my hand to my cloak and it jumps into the shadows. I close my cloak and walk out to the ops room again as if nothing happened.
"Hey guys. Turn on the TV." Robin comes in with Beast Boy and Raven.
"What for?" Cyborg asks.
"Apparently somebody video taped our battle yesterday and gave it to the media."
"Great." Cyborg turns on the TV and a picture from yesterday is up.
"Yesterday the Teen Titans encountered a band of men on Main Street. According to witnesses they first appeared after a young girl landed on the roof of the pizzeria."
The camera switched over to some people from the crowd. I recognize this boy.
"Yeah she looked about 14 or 15. She didn't look in good condition either." The switch to another witness.
"What was she doing? Uh...It looked like she was running from them." Then it switched over to the newscaster.
"We were given this video taken by an onlooker, Casey Maslin." The video played of me being held at gun point. Ok I don't want to watch this anymore. I walk over to Raven and lean up against her.
"They were really weird. They were about to kill her too. After I turned off the camera I heard a gunshot and bolted. I think I recognized the guys though. Few years ago I saw a story on them. I think they're called The Panthers or something. But they looked like the had powers like Raven does or something." I hear Raven groan.
"That was quite rude." Starfire comments. Back to the newscaster again.
"What he's talking about are the notorious group of anti-bounty hunters, the Red Panthers. In other words, they kill good guys. Known for their aggression in southern Texas they came to Jump City a year ago to hunt down the Teen Titans but they didn't make it very far. Now it seems that they have a new target. Sources say that the girl is affiliated with the Titans in some way, but her current whereabouts are still unkno–" Robin turns off the TV.
"Avia isn't leaving the Tower."

Of course she isn't Robin. Oh the chapters over.
Hi! Hope you like Brazen's little shenanigans. I imagine him as Nebby from Pokémon Moon and Avia as Lillie. I recently "finished" the game so yeah.
Bye!
