When the school was founded, students arrived simply by apparating. When the number increased and the dangers as well, Ilvermorny applied a non-apparating rule, similar to the Hogwarts system which had been applied a few years earlier. From then on students gathered in different places all around the US to travel together (New Orleans being one of the most popular ones, thanks to the fun and comfortable way of traveling). From the Bayou, the Ferry suddenly enters the waters of a grand lake behind the castle. The castle is still hidden behind fog, so students can't see it when getting back on land. Next, the students gather by year and walk their way up the hill. The way up is a combination of long, unkept paths only visible because of the trail of students ahead and well kept paths and stairs, all in the same victorian style as the Bayou Ferry.
