In Ilvermorny, there's a hidden society of female students. Although this society is unknown to most students, these girls can join the group in their fourth year. The society isn't strict about houses, everyone is welcome. They meet once a month, in the evening, the location changes every time. They exchange ideas, knowledge, gossips, and take a closer look to the material given at school or discover subjects that are not educated in Ilvermorny. All their extra research is collected in a book, which has no end. The Penning Master keeps track of this Strange Book.

To join the Strange Women Society, girls will receive an invitation. They will be tested during an entire month. There are nine tasks (for every moon phase) they needs to fulfill. They will be tested in loyalty, secrecy, skills and ability. If you do not pass you will be send back to the school immediately. The tasks are guided by the Secretary. Only after they pass, she will be introduced to the other members, including the Chairwoman.

They trust the girls who did not make it, to remain silent about the meeting. In the past some have tried to come out and reveal the identity of the Secretary, only to be mysteriously shut up. Never threaten an invisible enemy!

Once introduced to the other Women, she receives a pin which is pinned on their Ilvermorny scarves. After the Admission Ritual, the pins are enchanted in a way that they are different for other students, but the Members of the Strange Women Society can still see them.

In total there's a maximum of 16 Members.

- Two: the student who's in her last year. She's allowed to give her school duties priority to the Society

- Four: the member who is in charge of the organization of the meetings (location, invitations...)

- Five: a creative mind, the one with the unexpected ideas

- Six: the one who is in charge of the Societies small budget

- Seven: the member who is given a second chance after a failure or bad behavior

- Eight: the member who's the most skilled

- Nine: the member who's proven loyalty and endurance during the year

- Ten: the member who deserves a good year and all of the members wishes go to her

Every five years, right before school starts, they organize an Alumni Party to which all the prior members are invited to.
