Chapter 3: Past Memories Part 1

Zelda was walking across the grass alongside Urbosa. She had her head down thinking, however her thoughts were interrupted by Urbosa. "What is it, Little Bird?"

"Huh? Oh! N-nothing," Zelda said.

Before Urbosa could say something, Link appeared. Zelda grunted.

"Ugh! What do you want?! I thought I made it clear I was not to be followed!" Zelda shouted, for no known reason. Link said nothing, nor did he leave.

"Leave! Go back to the castle!" Zelda shouted, a little louder.

Little Bird!" Urbosa yelled. "Calm yourself! It is not nice to take your anger out on someone who did nothing wrong!"

"Oh, but Urbosa! He has done something wrong; he keeps following me!" Zelda replied, not knowing that she was being quite rude.

Urbosa was offended by Zelda's lack of respect.

"LEAVE! AND STOP FOLLOWING ME!!!" Zelda screamed.

Link froze, he had never heard the Princess so angry. He ran away instantly, not wanting to agitate the Princess any further. What was he going to tell the king?
"Princess Zelda Hyrule!" Urbosa yelled.

Zelda froze, she had never ever heard Urbosa say her full name. She knew she was in trouble when Urbosa said her actual name, Zelda, but she knew that she was in serious trouble now.

"No. No." Urbosa said. She seemed to be struggling to get words out.

"No! You do NOT take your anger from your father out on Link! Or anyone!" Urbosa yelled, finally getting her words together.

Urbosa was so upset with Zelda's behaviour.

"I just...I just, seeing that sword on his back reminds me of my failure to activate my power," Zelda said sadly.

"Zelda, you are not a failure, it just takes time, and that doesn't give you a reason to yell at Link," Urbosa said.

"I know, it's just...his life is so...perfect!" Zelda cried, bursting into tears.

"Now, now, Zelda, nobody's perfect. Link isn't. Do you ever wonder why he's so quiet? Or maybe that he cries every night? Hmm? And now he's probably wondering what he has done to make you so upset?" Urbosa said.

Zelda stopped crying. "What do I do?"

"You apologise," Urbosa replied.

"Give me a second please" Zelda requested.

"Sure," Urbosa replied.

Zelda ran up a hill and sat down to think. She thought about Link. He was cute, kind, generous, fair, but best of all, he would give his life to protect Zelda. Zelda remembered that once when she was yelling at him and complaining that he only would give his life for her because it was his job. She remembered that he replied saying

"I would give my life to protect you if it was my job or not."

That was the first thing that he ever said to Zelda, and it was the last too, so far at least.

Zelda realised that she wasn't making any friends, certainly not with the way she was behaving. She had to apologise to Link and make it up to him. The only person standing in her way was her father. Link was her personal knight, not her friend. However, maybe she could use the fact that he was her personal knight to her advantage.

Later, in the Castle, Zelda walked up to her bedroom door, the one that Link was guarding. As soon as Link saw her, he looked away. He was angry at her for lashing out like she did. He simply opened the door for the Princess.

"Link, please come in," Zelda said. Link didn't move. "Please?"

Link grumpily obeyed the Princess.

"Link! Oh! I'm so sorry! I truly am! I'm sorry! I didn't know that you cried every night! I'm sorry! Please forgive me! I'll make it up to you!" Zelda begged.

She could've sworn she saw Link smiling. Link bent down and offered his hand to help her stand up. She took it.

"All I wanted to hear was an apology," Link said.

————

Zelda woke up. It was a dream. But also, a memory. She soon fell back to sleep.

————

Zelda was practically begging Link to run. They were taking shelter in a forest from a herd of Guardians.

"Zelda, I've been wanting to tell you this. I love you, if I fall today, please, whatever you do, get to Hateno! Purah will protect you," Link said.

The day that Hyrule thought would never come has come. Zelda looked at Link. He had scratches and cuts everywhere; his tunic was torn and damaged. A grave cut bled painfully on his chest. Her thoughts were interrupted by Link putting his lips against hers. Their first kiss, and it was right before they were going to die. Tech was nowhere to be seen too. For all she knew, he could be dead.

The group got to Fort Hateno. The guardians spotted them. Link threw himself in front of Zelda.

"NO!" Zelda cried.

A white light blinded everyone. Zelda looked at the dead guardians. Then she heard a grunt. Link collapsed on the ground. Zelda held him in her arms.

"Link! Don't give up! You'll be okay," Zelda cried.

"Zelda, I'm not going to make it and you know it," Link said, barely audible.

"No!" Zelda cried again.

Link coughed and then went lifeless in her arms.

Link's Point of View

All the pain and suffering are coming to an end for me. I'm about to die. Hopefully the Princess will make it to Hateno. I can't believe that it ended up like this, but we can't change what's meant to be. Fate and Destiny have collided to choose this. All I have to do now is to close my eyes, but first I need to look at Zelda. She's beautiful. However, she's crying. It pains me to see her like that. Now I need to close my eyes and let go.

3rd Person
————

Zelda woke up crying. That was a memory that she did not want to ever remember, the day of the calamity, the day everyone died, her father, the four champions and worst of all Link. The sun was shining in her window. It was time to go see Link.
