Hypothermia.

It was the middle of December. The guys were excited to have the next two weeks off for Christmas and New Years. Taehyung was double excited because this would be his first birthday off in years. The members were all excited for Taehyungs birthday off too. They felt it meant they could really do something special for him. They had already gone out and bought him a ton of presents.

Unfortunately, Jungkook was dealing with a bout of pneumonia. He had no idea how he contracted it, but it was clear he had been suffering. He was always coughing up mucus or sleeping on the couch. His hyungs kept him pumped full of drug store medicine while they waited for their maknae's prescription to come in. Something that would actually help him get better.

One afternoon, Jungkook got a call that his medicine was ready to be picked up. However, Hobi advised they wait until tomorrow to pick it up because it was already snowing out and was only supposed to get worse. He asked Jungkook if he didn't mind suffering just one more day.

"I don't mind going and getting it, it's not snowing that badly out. Our SUV is 4 wheel drive, it will be fine," Taehyung offered. The rest of the members were gathered together checking the weather, "But it's supposed to get worse. And it's freezing outside. Actually it's well below freezing outside. It's -20F out," Jin informed. He didn't like the idea of Taehyung going out in that. He also felt terrible for Jungkook.

"I'll make it back before it gets bad. When is it supposed to get worse?" Taehyung asked.

"In about an hour," Yoongi told him.

"That's plenty of time!" The second maknae said eagerly. Jungkook sat up from the couch, after his coughing fit, he spoke up, "Hyung....It's really okay. I can wait. If the weather is bad I don't want you driving in it."

"Do you guys not have faith in my driving skills?" Taehyung pouted. It's not like he didn't have experience driving in snow.

"It's not that. But mother nature can be relentless," Jimin answered. Taehyung insisted he could make it back in time, and he could do it a lot faster if his members stopped pestering him.

"Fine," Yoongi finally agreed, "But be quick before this gets worse."

Taehyung clapped excitedly, doing this for his maknae made him feel like a superhero. Jungkook pouted on the couch. He'd rather just have Taehyung come over and cuddle if he was being honest. He thought about how cold it was outside and fought with an idea in his head before giving into it. He got up and grabbed his hyungs hand and walked him into his room.

"What are you doing?" Taehyung asked.

"I got you something. It was supposed to be a birthday present, but it seems like a good time to use it. I want you to have it now." Jungkook pulled a giant coat out of his closet and handed it to Taehyung, "Happy birthday hyung," he smiled.

"Jungkook-ah...this is for me?!" Taehyung smiled the biggest smile his maknae had ever seen. It was green with a brown collar, and super puffy, which Jungkook knew was Taehyungs favorite. Taehyung admired it with a bunch of ,"Oooooh's" and "Waahhhh's".

"And check this out hyung!" Jungkook said excitedly. He asked to see Taehyungs cell phone and downloaded an app. Suddenly Taehyung could feel the inside of the jacket getting warmer, "It's heated?!" Taehyung asked amazed. "Yes! You can control the temperature from your phone!" Jungkook said before falling into another coughing fit. Taehyung thanked him again and patted his back, saying he should get going while his maknae should go and lay back on the couch.

"Heading out, be back soon," Taehyung waved as he sprinted out the door in his new coat. Jungkook told his hyungs he gave him the present early, they all said it was a good idea considering the weather Taehyung was stepping out into.

The snow wasn't bad. Taehyung chuckled to himself. They really thought I couldn't drive in this?

It was absolutely freezing out and simply walking to the car made the bare parts of his skin burn, but the coat he was now wearing kept him very warm in the car. He couldn't thank his maknae enough. He found himself driving a lot slower as the snow started to pick up. The pharmacy was a 25 minute drive and he realized he'd already been on the road 10 minutes, yet knew he was still 20 minutes away. He looked around and couldn't see many other cars. All he could see was snow plows and snowflakes on the highway. He was getting a bit anxious as the snow quickly started to get heavier and he was having a hard time seeing. It had become complete white out conditions very quickly. He was startled when the radio suddenly stopped playing music and an emergency sound came on. The same thing happened with his phone. A severe snow storm alert came on and it said to immediately get off the road and stay home. He gulped. Should I just turn around?

His phone rang and he saw that Hobi was calling him.

"Hello?" Taehyung answered.

"Did you get that alert? Did you get the medicine yet? You have to get home asap TaeTae the weather is getting really bad really fast," Hobi told him.

"I didn't make it yet but I will just turn around. Tell maknae I'm sorry, he'll have to wait until tomorrow for his medicine."

"No worries, just get home safely. Love you."

"Love you too hyung," Taehyung said before hanging up. He looked around for an exit he could get off and head back the other way, but he really couldn't see a single thing. Everything outside was an ocean of white. Suddenly the car started sliding. What? No no no no sliding! He panicked and gripped the wheel trying to control the car. Thankfully it hadn't gone too far, just off to one of the breakdown lanes. However his luck got worse when he tried moving the car and it wouldn't go anywhere. The car was stuck. He felt himself beginning to panic when he kept trying and trying and the car wouldn't move. He started shaking with anxiety and immediately called Hobi back.

"Hello?" his hyung answered.

"I'm stuck," Taehyung told him anxiously.

"Your stuck? Like the car is stuck?"

"Yes hyung! On the side of the highway! It slid and now it's stuck!" Taehyung cried. He felt on the verge of tears. He was scared. He didn't like the idea of being stranded alone.

"Are other cars driving by? Is anyone around who can help you?" Hobi tried to sound reassuring and brave to keep Taehyung from panicking, but he was very scared too. Taehyung had their only car, it's not like they could go out and save him. The rest of the members gathered around the phone when they overheard Taehyung was stuck.

"There is nobody! I haven't even seen a plow go by!" Taehyung panicked.

"Do we call the police or a tow truck or something?" Hobi asked the rest of the group. Jin took the phone from Hobi, "Taehyung-ah? Hey listen to me, hang up with us, call 911 and tell them you're trapped out there, and they should send someone to go get you, okay?"

"I'm scared hyung," Taehyung pouted.

"Aish...don't be! You'll be okay!" Jin was doing the same thing Hobi was doing. Trying to be reassuring to hide his own worry. Jungkook grabbed the phone, "You have your jacket on? You're warm right?"

"Yes Kookie it's on, thanks again. I will call for a tow truck. Hopefully someone comes in this weather.."

They said bye and Taehyung tried calling for help. The operator said due to weather, he'd be waiting a while. At the moment they had nobody to come and get him. Taehyung tried to swallow the lump in his throat. He called his members back and told them the news and they told him to try and flag someone down if someone drove by. He said he'd do his best. As soon as they hyung up, his phone died.

No! No no no!! He panicked. He tried aggressively tapping the power button but it was no use. The phone wasn't turning back on. He quickly realized his jacket now stopped producing heat. The phone is dead....the jacket won't work if the phone is dead..

It was at this point he started to cry. He regretted not listening to his hyungs from the start to stay home, they did always know what was best for him, anyway. He blasted the heat from the car in an attempt to stay warm. He huddled his arms around himself and let the tears fall as he watched closely outside to see if he could see any lights from vehicles, but none went by. The roads weren't being plowed at all and he wondered how the hell anyone was supposed to come save him if the roads weren't even being plowed. Something blinking on the dashboard caught his eye. It was the gas level. The car was quickly running out of gas. The anxiety coursed through his chest as he saw the bars quickly drop and then the car completely shut off. He tried again and again to turn it on but that was also useless.

In his frustration he hit the steering wheel with his hands and screamed as loudly as he could. He was trapped on the side of the road in the middle of the worst snow storm of the year, nobody was coming to save him, his phone was dead, his car was dead, and he didn't have heat anymore and it was quickly dropping to below freezing within the car. His tears flowed heavily. Yet at the same time, he also couldn't stop thinking about how bad he felt that he wasn't able to go get Jungkook his medicine. He's suffering too.

As time went by, he became freezing. He was shivering badly and his teeth were chattering. The tears on his cheeks had turned to ice. He had his knees at his chest and had zipped his jacket around his entire body in an attempt to keep warm. While looking out the window, he saw lights approaching. He could tell it was a snow plow. He immediately tried getting out of the car, but couldn't open it.

"Hey! Help! Help!" he screamed from inside the car as he saw the plow driving by. "Wait! Wait! Help!" he was banging on the cars window and trying to push the door open, but it had frozen shut. He couldn't escape from the car. He had never felt so trapped in his life.

"No! Stop! Please! Help! He-" his voice gave out as his screams turned into sobbing. The plow was now gone out of sight, and he was still trapped inside the freezing car. He decided to crawl into the back seat and lay down curled up in the jacket. It wasn't the same when it wasn't heating him up. He was freezing. He looked up into the rearview mirror of the car and saw how his lips had already turned blue and his cheeks were white.

I'm going to freeze to death here.

He lay in the backseat crying and shivering. As his feet and hands started to go numb, he started thinking about his members and memories together. He wondered what they were up to and if they were still wondering if he was okay , or if they'd forgotten about him. He thought about his birthday and wondered if his members would still celebrate it if he was dead, or if they'd choose to do something else instead. He thought about all the Christmas presents he'd already bought for all his members and he hoped if he died, they at least found them. He wiped a tear off his cheek.

I don't want to die like this.

It felt like time was standing still, not that he knew what time it was anyway. All around him was still nothing but snow. No people, no cars. It'd been another long while since he saw that last snow plow. He knew nobody was coming and it broke his heart. He'd never felt so alone in his life. As time passed, it got even colder out. He started to have trouble breathing. The air felt like straight ice. He could see his breath with every exhale, and every inhale made him feel like his lungs were shattering. He was beginning to gasp for air and it was making him dizzy. He cried even harder the worse he felt. His body heat inside the jacket wasn't working anymore. It got too cold. His chest was starting to feel frozen and it felt like his heart was seizing. He looked at his fingers and they had turned a weird blue and purple color. His only thought was death. He curled himself up into his jacket the best he could in a last attempt to keep warm, but it didn't work. He had gotten so dizzy and disoriented that he passed out in the back seat.

--

Hobi had tried calling Taehyung back for the third time. It kept going to voicemail.

"I'm so worried. This is taking too long and I think his phone might be off," Hobi pouted to the others, "It keeps going to voicemail."

"Maybe he turned it off to help save battery?" Jimin suggested.

"Cold weather drains battery," Yoongi added. Jungkook shot up from the couch, "Wait? You think hyungies phone is off?" he seemed panicked. Hobi nodded.

"No no no it can't be off! His jacket!" Jungkook screamed out loud and started coughing. Namjoon went over and patted his maknae on his back, "His jacket?" he asked.

"The heater inside the jacket! He has an app on his phone, that's the only way it works! If his phone isn't on the heater won't work!" Jungkook screamed again. He was panicking, "He could be freezing to death out there!"

Jin decided to call 911 himself to ask if they knew if Taehyung got picked up yet and told them their concerns. She said that emergency services were on their way but it could be a while.

"What if we don't have a while?! What if he's freezing?!" Jin screamed into the phone. The woman said there was nothing she could do.

In his panic, Jungkook shot up from the couch and ran back into his room. He grabbed the instructions to the coat to reread them. He got to the part about downloading the app on the phone and connecting the coats serial number to hook it up to the heating device. Jungkook decided to give it a shot on his own phone. It didn't specify which phone needed the app on it.

He downloaded the app and put in the serial number to Taehyungs coat. It seemed to have connected successfully. Jungkook immediately turned the heat up on it and prayed it was working for his hyung. He ran back out of his room and dropped back onto the couch crying. Crying and having pneumonia were not a good mix. The maknae started to have such a hard time breathing that he started gagging on mucus. Yoongi ran to the bathroom to grab a nebulizer they had bought when Jungkook first got sick. He turned it on and plastered it to Jungkook's face.

"He'll be okay," Yoongi cooed as he patted Jungkook's back to help get some mucus up.

"He could be dead," Jungkook cried.

"You can't think like that," Jimin said reassuringly, "That won't do him any good." Jimin was just as worried as the rest of them but he was so scared that if he admitted what he was afraid of, it'd come true.

"All we can do is wait. They're working on rescuing him as we speak, yeah?" Namjoon said while also rubbing Jungkook's back, "They'll have him home in no time and he'll tell us all about his adventure." His hyungs words were able to calm him down. The members gathered around on the couch and waited with their phones in their hands for Taehyung to call them back when he got the chance to.

--

A tow truck, and an ambulance, finally made it to Taehyungs car. The storm had stopped and the roads were plowed. A crew had to pry the frozen doors to the car open and they found Taehyung laying unconscious in the back seat. Paramedics stared at him for a moment. His lips were blue and his cheeks had ice on them. They checked for a pulse and to their surprise he had one. It was faint but it was there. When they picked him up out of the car, one of the paramedics could feel heat radiating off of the jacket he was wearing and was surprised.

They rushed Taehyung to the hospital, and the tow truck took the car to a nearby parking lot for someone to pick up when they were ready to get it.

-

Namjoon got a phone call from an unknown number. He picked up and put it on speaker. They all freaked out and cried when they were told Mr.Kim Taehyung was found hypothermic and unconscious in his car and was currently in the Emergency Room. The first thing they did was call for a taxi bus to come pick them up and bring them to the hospital. When they got there, they ran around asking about Taehyung. They were told to have a seat in the waiting room. After almost six hours, a doctor came in and asked for them. They ran to him.

"Is he alive?!"

"Is he okay?!"

"Is Taehyungie going to be okay?!"

"Can we see him now!?"

"Where is he?!"

The members bombarded the doctor with questions. The doctor informed them, "He is going to be just fine. It's a miracle, really. Anyone else would have died being in that situation for that long. Where did he get the jacket? One of the paramedics said it was still heating him when they picked him up."

"It worked?!" Jungkook screamed happily, "Oh my God it worked!" He jumped up and down with excitement. I saved hyung!?!

Jungkook boasted to the doctor about how he bought it for Tae's birthday. After that they all ran to Taehyungs room. He was awake and drinking some hot chocolate. Jungkook and Jimin ran and jumped right into his bed with him pulling him into a tight hug. Jimin planted kisses all over his dongsaengs face. They held eachother and Taehyung couldn't help but start crying. "I thought I was never going to see any of you again," he cried.

The rest of the members huddled around to hug him and told him they were just as terrified. Taehyung told them all what had happened, he didn't remember passing out. "I don't understand how the jacket turned back on, they said it was on when they found me. Apparently it kept me warm enough to not die?"

"That'd all be thanks to maknae," Jin smiled. Taehyung looked to Jungkook, "Kookie?"

"I turned it on from my phone. When we realized yours was dead I panicked and figured it was worth a shot to try from mine. I can't believe it worked!" Jungkook smiled as he wrapped Taehyung in a hug. He quickly pulled away to start coughing. Taehyung felt bad again, his maknae was still without medicine.

"I'm sorry I failed," Taehyung frowned. The members were frantic to tell him to absolutely not think that way. A doctor came in to check on Taehyung and noticed Jungkook's coughing fits. He asked if he was alright. The maknae explained the situation and the doctor said he had the same medicine on hand and went and got it for Jungkook. Everyone was ecstatic. Now both their maknae's would be okay.

Taehyung had to stay in the hospital for a night to be monitored. The members all stayed with him. When it was time to go, they called for another taxi bus to bring them home. When they got home they realized the car hadn't been towed back to their house.

"Aish..who's going to go pick that up?" Jin asked annoyed. Thankfully the weather was fine now. Taehyung walked over to Jin and put his hand on his hyungs shoulder while smiling and chuckling,

"It sure as hell isn't going to be me, hyung."
