The patient and I kept on staring at each other for what felt like forever, silence dominating over the both of us. While Ms. Bon Hwa was just looking deep into my eyes and clenching my hands, probably hoping that I would end up believing her, I was busy processing that one fact that shocked me.
Jung Hoseok was a murderer.
As Ms. Bon Hwa said, there will be no way to pin the charges on him since Hoseok probably never touched him, so any form of DNA or just proof in general that strengthens Ms. Bon Hwa's statement didn't exist. Not to mention that the place was secluded and there were probably no surveillance cameras around to capture the moment Hoseok hypnotized the man and ordered him to kill himself. If there is no way to prove Ms. Bon Hwa's statement, then the case will eventually be sealed as a suicide case and Ms. Bon Hwa will make it to the newspaper headlines in the worst way possible.
"Ms. Kim Bon Hwa," I suddenly said which made her grip on my hands tighten and her eyes opened even wider.
I contemplated whether I should support her with this or not, considering that there is nothing to prove the two of us right, even though I did believe her.
I gulped before deciding to look back into her eyes and held her hands with the same amounts of force that she held mine and said," I believe you. I really do."
The moment she heard those words exit my mouth, she let out a deep breath and her body went loose. It was like her muscles were waiting for those three words to set them free. She covered her mouth with her hands and allowed her tears to fall silently.
"Thank you Doctor Sun Hee! Thank you so much!" She cried out, but they came out muffled due to her hands.
"I know the killer. Not personally, but I've heard of him before. The problem that we will face now though is that the police officer and the detective out there won't find a reason to believe us. We need solid evidence against him if we want him to get caught," I said and she instantly removed her hands away from her mouth, exposing her tear stained face.
"H-how do you know the killer?" She asked me, arms still trembling.
"No it isn't anything like what you think. A couple of days back I saw a vide-" I said but then paused at the realization.
I got solid evidence right there! The video that proves Ms. Bon Hwa's theory right! It literally shows Hoseok performing hypnosis on a man the same way Ms. Bon Hwa described what she saw in her statement!
"The video! That's it! That's the evidence I'm looking for!" I suddenly shouted then stood up and ran to the door. I twisted the door knob aggressively and opened the door very rapidly, only to find a surprised police officer and a detective.
"I know who the killer is!" I shouted, making them look at each other with raised eyebrows.
"And I have evidence," I added to which they nodded at me. They followed me into the patient's room and just stood there.
"Please tell us everything you know in boring details," The detective said and took out his notebook and pen to start taking notes.
"The name is Jung Hoseok. He seems like a guy in his early twenties. He's an illusionist and a professional hypnotist. The technique he uses in hypnotizing others is identical to the method of murder Ms. Bon Hwa has claimed in her statement. The victim has been hypnotized deeply and ordered to kill himself," I said with excitement yet anger visible in my tone. The thought of this Hoseok guy was starting to irritate me. Such a skill should only be used for good deeds, and not to go around and kill others for fun. It fell into the wrong hands and no one can do anything about it now. Thinking about it now, even if he got caught and was taken to prison, he can hypnotize his way out of jail.
"And how can you be so sure?" The police officer asked me.
"A couple of days back someone uploaded a video on YouTube of a person performing hypnosis in a very unique way. The video gained a million views in just a couple of hours. The person performing hypnosis was Jung Hoseok, and his technique is very similar to what Ms. Bon Hwa has seen," I said.
"May you show us this video please?" I got asked and so I nodded very rapidly.
"Of course," I said then took my phone out of pocket and immediately turned on my data. I opened YouTube and searched for the video. I couldn't find anything though. I stared at the screen with confusion.
The video was there for sure. I've watched it a million times.
"Is there something wrong doctor?" The detective asked me, but I shook my head at the screen then looked up at him.
"The video isn't there anymore," I said then looked back down at my screen and tried searching for it all over again.
"Of course it isn't! I knew that this was all some pure bullshit the moment I heard the statement! There is no such thing as hypnotizing with a smile! He isn't an angel! He can't simply smile and take people into trances!" The detective shouted suddenly, throwing me completely off guard.
"The statement we heard didn't make sense. Even the doctors told us that no such thing was possible. As a psychologist, you know more than anyone else in this hospital that no such thing exists," The officer said, a bit more calmly than the detective did.
"That's the crazy part! I have researched his technique ever since I got my hands on the video, but I wasn't capable of understanding how such a thing was possible! I know it was real though! I spent most of my nights researching it. It couldn't have been nothing!" I said, but it seemed like the men in front of me were having enough.
"The where is the video that proves your theory?" The officer asked me, face showing zero indifference to everything.
"I told you, I can't find it for some reason. But I'm one hundred percent sure that it was there!" I told them, eyes twinkling with determination.
The two of them just kept on staring at me, not knowing what to do. I know it probably sounded like the stupidest thing they've heard all their lives, and I guessed that their day wasn't that great either and that I was adding up to it by not spitting the facts that they wanted to hear, but I couldn't tell them anything else but that.
"There is no evidence of murder. The victim killed himself. Seal the case as suicide. Case closed," The officer said and then headed out of the room.
My eyes widened in shock and I began running after the officer.
"Sir! Sir no! It is not suicide! The victim was ordered to kill himself! It wasn't voluntary!" I kept on calling after him but then found myself shouting the last part as his car drove off.
I just stood there watching the lights of the car disappear before letting out a deep sigh and turning back to the ER entrance, head low and so was my pace.
There is no way that video wasn't there. I'll bring it back somehow. It isn't over yet.
