4.7; "First date."

L U C A S

I stood in front of the mirror in my room, as I adjusted the blazer dangling on my shoulders. I bit the edge of my lip, as the nerves flowed throughout my whole body like a wild fire. I glanced up to myself, taking note to my outfit, before I let out a desperate sigh.

A memory came flooding back to my mind.

"Why do I have to wear this?" My six year old self grunted, as I fiddled with the tie around my neck. I had heard a light chuckle from behind me, so I turned around to face my mother.

She was smiling at me, before she set down the box she had in her hands on the bed, as she began to walk over towards me.

I let out a sigh, before my mom bent down in front of me, as she began to adjust my little tie. "Because, your father's banquet is very important, plus you look very handsome." My mom smiled, as she helped me put on the tiny blazer. I let out another whine.

My mom took my shoulders, and spun me around lightly so I could look at myself in the mirror. She was bent down on her knees, to reach my height, even though she was still taller than my six year old self on her knees. She set her chin onto my tiny shoulder, as she smiled brightly.

"One day, you're going to get dressed up like this for your first date." Mom grinned, as she began to fix my hair, which was very blonde and wavy.

I suddenly stuck out my tongue, making an 'ew' sound. "Girls have cooties."  I said in a gross tone, and she began to laugh lightly. I covered my face, before my mom took my hands off of my face, and i turned around to face her reluctantly.

She set her hand on my cheek, as her lips curved upwards. She had long blonde hair, with bright green eyes. My eyes were identical to hers.

"You may think that girls have cooties right now, but someday, you're going to meet a girl who will change that for you." My mother, Elizabeth spoke, as she looked into my eyes. I tugged down on my lip. "But ew, they're so gross, I hate girls." I replied bleakly. She quickly shook her head, as she caressed my cheek.

"Hate is a strong word, Lucas." She whispered, and I nodded my head. "You're so young right now, but one day you will be older. One day you're going to meet a girl, and you're going to fall madly in love. She'll be very special, I know. Because you will have found her, and if you love her, than she is something incredible. So yes, someday, you'll be standing here, much older, and I'll still have to help you with your tie for your first date." My mom giggled, and I smiled lightly.

"I can't wait to meet her when you do." She whispered, before she set a light kiss to my forehead.

My eyes  fluttered open, as I dazed back in reality. I looked around at my surroundings, before I gazed back into the mirror, staring at myself. I fumbled with the tie in my hands.

My expression was blank, as many emotions ran through my mind. She should be here, helping me with my tie, she should be here to meet Riley.

She should just be here.

I lightly smiled to myself in the mirror, as the memory of my mom raced through my brain. I began to put the tie on, not as well as she would have done, but  good enough. I looked back up to myself, as I could just imagine my mom standing right beside me. I let out a sigh, before i walked over to my bed. I pulled out a box from underneath the bed, the one that my mom was digging through in that memory.

I searched through the box, before I found the two things I needed.

I took my mom's necklace and placed it into my pocket, along with something else. I closed the box and hid it underneath my bed again, before I stood up and glanced down to the watch on my wrist.

"It's time for my first date." I said, blushing to myself slightly.

                                                                                    R I L E Y

I scrolled through my instagram as my mom curled my hair, while I lightly hummed along to an Ed Sheeran song. After the other night, I couldn't get it out of my head.

I couldn't get him out of my head.

He should just be some stranger, even though I don't remember him, I can't help but feel almost fantasized, like I'm in some sort of daze when I'm with Lucas. It's just incredibly odd to think that we had so much history together, and I want to remember. But it's so damn hard, I can't do it.

"Whatcha thinking about?" Someone spoke, making me snap out of my thoughts immediately. I turned my around slightly to look at my mom, whom just finished curling my brown locks.

"Nothing, really.." I said quietly, before I looked back down to my lap. I could only imagine the look on my mom's face, before she walked over and pointed towards the bay window. I gave her a light smile before we walked out of my bathroom and into my bedroom, as we sat down at my sacred place.

I stared down at my lap, before my mom tilted my chin upwards. "What is it sweetie." She said softly. I bit the edge of my lip as I stared at her, I couldn't lie. I was so confused, I wasn't sure what to feel.

"I don't know what to feel, or do really. I don't remember him, I don't remember what we had. I'm just tired of disappointing him." I let out a ruffled sigh, as I ran my fingers through my freshly curled hair. I felt the presences of my moms hand lay on top of mine, as my eyes glanced back into hers.

"You may remember, you may not remember him. But I can promise you this, trust him. He may be disappointed, but you won't be." She responded, as she stroked my hair. I was silent for a moment, before I let out a sigh.

"Were you ever in a situation like this with dad?" I asked, curiously. My mom chuckled. "No, we weren't. But our story doesn't compare to yours, it's up to you if you want to write the next chapter in your story. You're all on your own for this one, sweetie. Just trust your heart." She smiled, holding my hand tightly.

I returned the gesture, smiling. I felt better.

Suddenly, we both heard the doorbell ring, and I felt the butterflies swarm immediately. I looked back over to my mom.

"Are you going to write your next chapter?" My mom asked, scanning my eyes. I was silent for a second, before I broke into another smile.

"Of course." I spoke, and she gifted me a grin. "Then lets go, beautiful girl." She said, admiring my red dress as I let out a giggle. We wrapped her arm around me before we walked out into the living room.

I heard my dad loudly speaking, so I held myself back for a moment behind the door, so that Lucas didn't see me.

My mom looked down to me, gesturing for me to walk forward. I took a deep breath, before I did so.

My heart jumped at the sight of Lucas, as he stared at me widely.

                                                                                    T H I R D - POV

"No.. No Zay, I don't know where the pudding cups are!" Lucas exclaimed in the phone that he was holding up to his ear, as he drove towards Riley's house. "Dammit Lucas, I've seen the empty cups in your room. Filthy ass liar." Zay retorted back, and Lucas rolled my eyes, as he kept one hand on the steering wheel and the other next to his ear.

"Okay, I'll buy you pizza later to make it up to you, alright?" Lucas responded, as he neared towards the sidewalk, and parked. "Pizza can't mend our friendship!" Zay spiked back groggily. Lucas let out a chuckle. "I'll text you later." He says, and Zay choked out a scoff. "Excuse me! Don't you dare hang up on me bit-" Lucas quickly hit the end button, smirking.

Oh how he loved to annoy Zay. Lucas turned off his truck, before he gently grabbed the bouquet of white roses that were sitting in the seat next to him. He hopped out the truck, shutting the door behind him, before he quickly looked into the rear view mirror to see how he looked.

"What will she think? Ugh I don't know." Lucas said, debating to himself quietly. He heard a slight voice groan, so he looked over to his side, to see an old man walking his dog, giving him an odd look.

"What? Can't a guy be nervous for his first date.." Lucas called out, before he shook his head. The man looked away, and Lucas let out a sigh, before he walked up to the apartment lobby doors, walking inside.

The nerves began to build up anxiously throughout his body, and he suddenly couldn't think straight, as he walked up the stairs. "What do I say? What do I do? Oh my God. I don't know." He stuttered to himself in a whisper, before he reached Riley's hallway. Suddenly, Lucas' phone buzzed in his back pocket, so he quickly pulled it out. Expecting it to be Zay, he was surprised to see that it was Maya. He stopped mid hallway, just to take a breather.

"Hello?" Lucas answered. "Lucas! Thank goodness you picked up." Maya replied in a static tone. Lucas furrowed his eyebrows. "What is it?" He asked. He could tell Maya was smiling like no other on the other end of phone, considering her tone.

"It's the best news I've ever heard." She responded. Lucas raised his eyebrow, as he stared blankly at the wall in front of him, waiting for her to reply.

"Yes?" He says, dragging the 'e'. Maya took a deep breath, before she responded. "Missy Bradford got expelled from school!" She exclaimed, and Lucas' jaw dropped. "Wait, are you serious? Why did she get expelled?" Lucas gasped, immediately curious. Maya just chuckled.

"They won't tell us, but all I know is that she's moving somewhere far from here and ain't coming back. No need to see that bitch anymore, and she can't bother Riley." Maya said, and Lucas let out a laugh. "One less thing to worry about then." He replied, and Maya nodded, but then remembered that she couldn't see him.

"Okay, well hey, I got to go. I'm picking up Riley for our date." Lucas said, and Maya made an 'ooo' sound, and Lucas rolled his eyes. "Okay then, well have fun I guess. Oh, and remember that if you hurt her I will kill you." She cooed. Lucas shook his head with a smile, just thinking about his date tonight.

"Goodbye Maya." Lucas chuckled, before he hung up.

He stood back up from leaning on the hallway wall, before he stood and faced Riley's front door. He took in a deep breath, running his fingers through his hair before he adjusted the roses in his grasp, along with his shirt.

He bit the edge of his lip, as he took is shaky hand and knocked on the door.

It was quiet for a few moments, before Lucas heard a loud clutter, and the door swung open immediately.

There stood Cory, glaring at Lucas.

"You!" He exclaimed, pointing right at Lucas' face. Lucas smirked. "Me." Lucas responded, scrunching his nose upwards. Cory let out a frustrated sigh, as he set his hand on his hip. "Riley isn't home, if you were wondering." He said sassily, not wanting to let his daughter go out, but knew she was standing right behind him.

Lucas was quiet for a second, and right before he was about to say something, an angel stepped in front of his view.

His jaw fell down to the ground, heart stopped beating, mouth stopped breathing.

There stood Riley, smiling up to Lucas innocently. She was wearing a high low red dress, with black studded heels. She adorned a jean jacket, and long curls that flowed beside her.

Lucas literally couldn't speak, he was completely blown away. Everytime he saw her, but this time was different.

"Say.. something." Riley chuckled, blushing at her nervousness. Lucas just stood there, in his black blazer, button up white shirt underneath along with a long black tie, and some dark jeans and converse, of course. He also held the bouquet of roses in his hands.

"Beautiful." Was all he said, in a whisper as his eyes locked onto hers forever. Cory groaned, before he waved his hand in the air. "Ah just forget it." He mumbled, as he walked off with Topanga.

Riley turned her head sideways to glance at her mom. Topanga smiled at her daughter, as she pointed to her heart, before Riley slightly giggled and Topanga disappeared into the back bedroom.

Riley turned back around to Lucas, butterflies swarming her stomach incredibly fast.

"Hey." Riley said softly, as she stepped forward into the hallway. "Hi." Lucas replied gently, before he shook his head, snapping out of his trance. "T-These are for you." He whispered, handing Riley the beautiful flowers. Riley smiled up to him gratefully, as she smelled them. "They're beautiful.. Thank you." She retorted. Lucas grinned, nodding his head.

"Anything for you." He responded, shutting the door behind Riley, before he set out his hand. "May we?" Lucas asked, smirking down towards the brown headed girl. Riley smiled up to the blonde headed boy.

"We shall." She replied, lacing her hand through his.

It was a perfect fit as always.

................

"So where are we going?" Riley asked for like the millionth time. Lucas just smiled. "Just wait and see." He replied. Riley cocked an eyebrow, before she let out a giggle. "You're going to keep me in suspense for so long." She smirked, as she fiddled with her fingers. Lucas looked over to her, and smiled, before he suddenly stopped the car.

Without even realizing, they were already at their destination. "We're here." He spoke. Riley's head turned upwards as she looked out the window.

She gasped lightly. "A drive in movie?" She asked, glancing over to Lucas in shock. He just sweetly smiled at her."You love to go to the movies. And you used to always tell me how you wanted to go to a drive in movie but never got the chance so... Here you go." Lucas says. Riley couldn't stop smiling.

He was basically perfect. If only she could remember.

"Here, follow me." He said excitedly, hopping out of the truck and running over to Riley's side, and opening up the door for her. Riley giggled and stepped out, as she followed Lucas to the back of his pick up truck.

Riley gasped once more.

Tons of blankets were laid out in the back, with cushions and a small floor table. Lucas walked back over to the front of his truck, and got inside to grab a picnic basket.

He waltzed back over to Riley, popping open the trunk. He jumped up, and pulled out food and candles from the basket, lighting the candles quickly. He hopped back down to a speechless Riley.

"I know it's not a fancy restaurant or anything but.." "No, it's, it's perfect." Riley whispered, as she held onto Lucas' hand with joy, looking up into his eyes,

"Thank you." She whispered, and Lucas smiled. They stared at each for a second, before Lucas helped Riley up into the back. They sat down, before the movie began, which was Deadpool. Surprisingly, Riley wanted to see it more than Lucas did.

"I didn't know you could cook." Riley said, as they chomped on their food. Lucas chuckled. "There's alot you don't know about me anymore." He said, and Riley stopped eating for a moment. Lucas gave her a smile, reassuring her that it was okay.

After they finished eating, they cuddled up together in the back of his pick up truck, with the stars in the sky above as they watched the movie together.

Like an almost perfect fairy tale.

.............

It was quiet throughout the car ride, as Riley stared out the window. The stars were so bright and the wind so warm, she rolled down her window completely, as she set her hand outside and let the wind roll through her finger tips. She felt free.

Lucas looked over to her and smirked, before he fixated his eyes back onto the road. "You always used to do that." He said, and Riley let out a 'hum' sound. She sat back up correctly, as she took her hand out from the window.

"Where are we going now?" Riley asked with a smile. "Do you always ask so many questions?" Lucas smirked, and Riley scoffed as she placed a hand over her chest. "Excuse me." She said, and Lucas laughed, before she began to catch on and giggle contagiously.

"It's a surprise. I've been working on it for awhile.." Lucas trailed off at the blinding cars in front of him. Riley just pondered on the thought, wondering what it could be. She decided not to ask anymore questions, considering she had probably already asked about a million before.

So she decided upon leaning over and turning on the radio. A Radiohead song was playing and Riley's eyes widened. Lucas took notice of the uncomfortable look on her face, and he chuckled.

"You love Radiohead." He said, and Riley looked over to him bewildered. "I? Me? Riley Matthews listen to Radiohead?" She asked, shocked. Something she must have forgotten.

Lucas bit down on his lip. "Yeah, you do.." He chuckled, and Riley stared out in front of her blanky. The last thing she can remember is that she always hated that band.

"I actually introduced you to them, and then you couldn't stop listening to them." Lucas spoke, and Riley ran her fingers through her hair, before she nodded her head.

"Okay. Turn it up then." Riley said, as she bent back over and began to turn up the music. Lucas looked over to her in shock, mouth slightly agape.

"And i'm a creep!" Riley shouted, and Lucas continued to stare at her widely. Riley could feel his eyes on her, so she turned her head gently to the side, and gave him a sweet smile.

"God, I am so in love with you." Lucas stuttered nervously as he stared into Riley's eyes, and she blushed deeply, stomach swarming with untamed butterflies.

....

Lucas continued to drive until he stopped near an alleyway, and stopped. Riley, still confused as ever, but knowing that she had faith in Lucas, didn't say a word, even though she had no idea what was going on.

It was dark, except for one streetlight. And honestly, Riley was slightly scared. Lucas didn't say anything, he just stared at her for a moment, before he got out of his truck yet again. Riley fiddled with her fingers, before he met her on the other side and opened the door for her, helping her out again.

"Not, to creep you out... But this is somewhere pretty special to us, to me." Lucas quietly said, and Riley nodded her head, trying to believe him. "Okay." She said softly, as he guided her near towards the end of the alleyway. Riley looked around at the brick walls, before she looked forward to see an old warehouse.

Her eyebrows furrowed, as she took a step forward. "I'm not going to question anything, but.." Lucas chuckled. "This is where I've been working on something for you, and also, before the inside of his warehouse closed up, we used to go here and dance, work on our photography projects together." Lucas said, as they stared up at the old place.

Riley looked over to him. "We aren't normal." Riley said, before giggling. Lucas smiled. "No, we aren't." He laughed and she grinned.

"There's.. something, I've been working on for you, for a long time. I never mentioned anything to you because I always wanted it to be a surprise, but.. Of course, you don't remember, but I like art. I like to draw, paint. And there was something that I was actually working on for you, but I hadn't gotten the chance to show you, considering that I just finished it a few days ago, and it's kinda taken me months to do." Lucas laughed, and Riley blushed.

"What is it?" She queried, and Lucas pursed his lips. "Follow me." He said, and took Riley's hand in his. She instantly felt home, calm.

Lucas guided Riley to the side of the warehouse, more street lights evident. "Okay, close your eyes." Lucas spoke, and Riley giggled, shaking her head. "Do it." Lucas chuckled and Riley smiled, before she closed her eyes.

"Okay, i'm going to guide you." Lucas whispered in her ear, as he set his hands on her waist, and guided her around the corner.

"I don't know if I should be scared, or happy. Certainly the most different date I've ever been on." Riley giggled. Lucas smiled into her ear. "Well, I hope you're happy." He said, in a slightly nervous tone. This caused the curiosity to grow stronger within Riley.

Lucas stopped walking, and put Riley to a halt.

"Okay.. on the count of three, open your eyes." Lucas whispered softly, and Riley nodded her head. Lucas took one of his hands and placed it on her arm, as he caressed it, while the other held onto her waist lightly, yet she didn't seem to notice or pull away. She was too focused on finding out what this was.

"One..."

"Two..."

Lucas took a step back, releasing his hands gently. "Three." He says.

Riley fluttered her eyes open, only to have the words completely taken away from her every breath. She covered her mouth with her hand, as she gasped loudly.

"Oh my gosh." She whispered, as she looked above.

It was absolutely breathtaking.

Her heart stopped beating as she stared at the beauty in front of her. On the entire side of the warehouse, was a painting. It was a painting of Pluto, blown up ten times the size. But it wasn't only that, it was Pluto in the mess of the stars in the sky, but there was something in the sky. A girl, that was masked black, it looked as if she was dancing along, in the night sky. She was blending into the sky perfectly, but there was something attached to her hand. It was another figure, but it was faded out more. It was holding onto the more evident figure, with stars covering over them. It looked almost 3D.

Riley couldn't move, she just stood there, voice not audible. Lucas walked up next to her, "D-Do you like it..?" He asked quietly, by the look on her face he wasn't sure. Riley could feel tears build up in her eyes lightly.

"I believe in Pluto, I know that it's always there for me. I love Pluto. H-How did you-" "I always believed, that we would be together. From the beginning. Even sometimes when you didn't think so, but I did. I never lost faith. You were always there for me. You were, and are, my Pluto." Lucas spoke so delicately, with so much love in his tone, as he cupped the side of Riley's face with his hand, as a tear fell from her eye.

"It's perfect, it's beautiful." She sniffled, staring at the painting covered on the side of the building. It was a masterpiece.

"The stars, they're actually a-lined in a certain pattern.. When we did a photography project, we had to dance, with paint. We had to become one, and make sure that the lines never disconnected so.. I painted our lines within the stars." Lucas says as he stares down at Riley. She let out another little gasp.

"That's me, that's you." She whispered, coming to the realization of the figures. Lucas smiled sheepishly. "I know you don't remember, what we had yet. But you will. And there's actually something else I wanted to give to you.." He spoke, before he took his phone out of his pocket, and began to turn on some music, Belong by Cary Brothers began to play.

Riley blushed, as Lucas set his phone down on the ground, the sounds of the music wavering through the air. Lucas patted back over to Riley, as he stared down at her, and pulled something out of his front pocket.

"My mom and dad passed away, when I was really young. My mother, Elizabeth, always wore this, everyday. My father gave it to her when they were teenagers. Everyday, I can remember her wearing this. And one day, she gave it to me. She gave it to me and told me that one day I would give this necklace to the girl I love most in this world.." Lucas whispered, as Riley gazed up into his eyes. Lucas' lips curved upwards, as he clasped the necklace around Riley's neck, as his hand caressed her shoulders as he pulled his hands away.

"It belongs to you." He whispered, and the corner of Riley's lip tilted up. Lucas cupped Riley's face in his hands, as they stared into each others eyes. It's what they did best.

"May I have this dance, miss Matthews?" He asked, and Riley smiled, as she nodded her head. Lucas smiled also.

The music started, and Lucas took a step back, as he set out his hand. Riley waltzed up, and took his hand in hers. He pulled her close, as she wrapped one arm around his neck, as the other held onto his hand. Lucas wrapped his arm around her waist, holding her gently. He missed being this close to her.

"I used to hold  you like this.. when you were almost mine." He whispered into her hair, as Riley laid her head on his chest. Riley blushed lightly, as there bodies swayed along together, in perfect sync. Like nothing was missing.

"I used to spin you like this," Lucas said, as he took her out of his arms, and spun her around and back into his chest. Riley tilted her head back and laughed, as it became contagious to Lucas. "And then I used to dip you, like this." Lucas says, before he spun her around again and dipped her downwards. Lucas and her chuckled. "Smooth, again, Friar." Riley smiled lightly. Lucas smirked, before he pulled her back up, and into his arms, holding her close again, as she held onto him tightly, dancing with Pluto and stars behind and above them.

"I also used to touch you like this.." He softly spoke into her ear, before he set his hand against the small of her back, caressing it with his fingertips.

Riley felt herself lose her breath, as her cheeks heated up, Lucas' lips right against her ear. Lucas smiled, before he pulled away to look down into her eyes.

"Only you, can make me smile the way you do. Only you can make me blush like no other.. Literally." Lucas spoke, blushing at the moment, and Riley softly giggled, as their bodies danced in sync perfectly, as one.

"I love you, Riley Matthews." Lucas whispered, before he held Riley's face in his hands. Riley was about to say something, but then she realized, she couldn't say it back. She didn't know what to say.

Lucas stared down deeply into her eyes, before his lips curved upwards ever so slightly. "This was the most perfect date." Riley whispered. Lucas nodded his head, and Riley knew his pain. But she couldn't say it back.

"It's okay." He spoke, and Riley bit the edge of her lip, before Lucas set his lips against her forehead. Both of their eyes were closed, as they exhaled in the moment. Lucas' lips left her skin, making it tingle with a sensation she's never felt before, or never remembered feeling.

He just looked back down into her eyes.

"I love you."

And they just danced there, for awhile, in each others arm, not needing to say another word. They just listened to the sound of their hearts beating for each other.

..........

Lucas trotted up the stairs into Zay's house quietly, as he couldn't keep the smile off of his face. He waltzed upstairs, and noticed that Zay's door was wide open, with the light on. Lucas, grinning, walked in, as he leaned against the door.

"Lucas." Zay growled, but Lucas just smirked. "I'm not going to kill you, because I'm a good friend, and I'm assuming by that huge ass smile on your face, that something went very well. Did she remember?" Zay asked, and Lucas' smile slightly dropped.

"No, she hasn't remembered yet.. But she will. It was my first date, and it was.. honestly incredible. The same Riley that I fell in love with in the first place, is still there. She isn't gone. I can see it in her eyes." Lucas said, as he crossed his arms over his chest. Zay grinned.

"That's good." Zay says, and Lucas nodded again with that goofy grin. It was quiet for a silent second, before Zay began to glare at Lucas teasingly.

"You owe me a pizza." He spoke sternly, yet serious, and Lucas rolled his eyes, before he began to walk towards his bedroom. "Yeah, yeah." Lucas called out. "Aye! You better, extra cheese and pepperoni." Zay retorted back, and Lucas rolled his eyes with a smile, "Whatever you say Babineaux." He replied, before he patted into his bedroom and closed the door behind him, chuckling.

Lucas made his way over to his bed, untying the tie from around his neck, and right before he was about to lay down, he felt a vibration in his pocket. Lucas, noticing that it was twelve at night, raised his eyebrow oddly.

He grabbed his phone out of his pocket, checking the caller ID. It was an out of state number.

Curious, Lucas answered the phone.

"Hello..?" Lucas said hesitantly.

"Hello, is this Lucas Friar?" A lady suddenly spoke on the other end. Lucas bit down on the edge of his lip. "Um yes, who is this?" He asked. The lady on the other end took a deep breath, and Lucas could sense something.

"I'm a surgeon at the Austin Texas hospital, and I'd like to inform you that," The lady said, taking a pause. Lucas felt his heart stop beating, as it fell silent.

"Your fathers alive."
