0.4; "I'm Lucas Friar."

                                                                                        R I L E Y

Today has felt like the longest day ever. I've met a lot of people so far, a nice girl named Isadora, and a couple of other people. Also there's this really cute boy in my English class, I'm not sure of his name though. He has bright blue eyes and brown hair, but his eyes don't compare to Lucas's emerald green ones. Earlier me and Maya were walking down the halls, and I saw his arms slung around two girls who could pass as strippers. I wasn't jealous, but I kind of felt hurt. Kind of. I mean I didn't even know him so what am I thinking? Stop thinking about him, Riley. I know not to judge a book by its cover, but something is just so fascinating about him, I don't know what it is, or how to explain it. He's so mysterious, I just want to learn about him.

Suddenly I was snapped out of my daze by a hand waving in front of my face.

"Riley..."

"RILEY!"

I shook my head before focusing back onto Maya.

"Sorry." I said. It was the end of the day and I was exhausted, ready to go home.

"I just wanted to tell you that I'm going to go to the bathroom real quick, don't fantasize off again." She lightly laughed. "Got it!" I yelled at her as she walked over to the bathrooms.

I opened up my locker, stuffing my books and necessities in. I slung my bag over my shoulder before closing my locker shut. A figure was leaning up against the locker right beside, making me jump and gasp. I suddenly felt my heart pound 10x faster. It was Lucas. He was smirking at me, as if it was funny to him that he scared me.

"Didn't mean to scare you." He said with a light smile. I pressed my lips together, letting out a soft laugh. "It's okay." I said gently. He just stared at me, as if he was staring straight into my soul. I finally got a better glance at him, he had messy dark blonde hair, he didn't have his leather jacket on so you could clearly see his muscles. His jawline was sharp and prominent, and he was really tanned. I just then realized I was checking him out.

"Take a picture, it will last longer." He winked. I let out an annoyed laugh. "Just curious." He looked into my eyes again. Dammit, why does he do that?

"I don't think we've properly met, I'm Lucas Friar." He said softly, setting out his hand. It was huge compared to mine.

"Riley Matthews." I replied, before hesitantly shaking his hand. Suddenly I felt butterflies swarm in my stomach. His hand was so soft, and it engulfed my tiny one. I could feel his thumb lightly graze against the back of my hand, making my heart race. I just then realized we were practically holding hands, well technically he was

holding mine. I let go, letting out an awkward cough.

"So I saw you with your lady friends earlier."

"Jealous much?" He smirked. I scoffed.

"I don't even know you, how could I be jealous." I said. He suddenly took a step closer to me. "Then get to know me." He replied, and I could feel his breath on me. "I can clearly already tell that you're a player." I swiftly turned around, starting to walk away to make distance between us, but he followed me. "You're right." He said, as if he was proud. I stopped and looked at him. "Girls aren't objects you can just play around with. And clearly I can tell you're trying to play me. Hate to break it to you but it's not gonna work on me." I gave him a smile. He just looked off to the side and laughed. "Why because you think I'm a troublemaker?" He replied In a cocky tone. "Seems like it." I said, ruder than I intended it too but he was on my last nerve.

"Well you certainly wouldn't be wrong." He smirked. "You really enjoy getting on people's nerves don't you?" I asked. "It's one of my specialities." He replied, getting closer to my side. I stopped right in front him. "So you really just don't care? Don't care how many hearts you break?" His cocky smirk went to an almost mean looking expression. "I don't care about any of this."

"You don't care about anything?"

"Nope."

"I highly doubt that, Mr. Friar."

"Mr. Friar. Cute, I wouldn't mind you calling me that everyday, Riles." He winked. I could practically feel the steam blowing out of my ears. "Don't call me that." I hissed. He laughed. "Aren't you just prissy enough." I've just had it with this guy. "Who do you think you are?" I asked. "Lucas Friar, the guy you'll think about everyday from now on."

I rolled my eyes. I couldn't believe this guy. To think I actually thought I could possibly have even the slightest crush on him. "I have better things to think about than you." Ouch Riley, that was rude. Suddenly I saw Maya walk out of the bathroom. Thank God. "Let's just get one thing straight here." I said, stepping up to him. "I'm not like any of those other girls. And I'm not just going to be your little toy that you're going to play with. So if you'll excuse me Mr. Friar, I have more important things to attend to." I snapped, turning around, grabbing Maya's arm and pulling her out of the school doors. The last thing I saw was the shocked expression left on his face.

"What the hell was that?" She gasped at me. "I don't wanna talk about it. Let's just say you were right. He's bad news." I said, stomping angrily. "To actually think that I thought he was different!" I shook my head, thinking how stupid could I possibly of been. But I didn't want to judge him by his looks, or by other peoples perception of him, until I actually spoke to him myself, and clearly now I know.

"I'm sorry, Riley." Maya chimed. "It's okay. He just pushed my buttons." I sighed, as me and her walked back to the Subway station. We hopped onto the train, and I made sure to hold onto something this time.

"Maya?" I asked. She looked at me. "Yeah?" I bit the corner of my lip, hesitating, because I really didn't want to bring him up again, but I was just too curious.

"What did you mean when you said that he was 'dark'?" I asked, emphasizing the word 'dark'. She shuffled in her seat. It seemed as if she didn't want to tell me, but I had the right to know.

"Okay. So the first year he came to our school, he was quiet. He was kind of a loner, shy. He started getting into these random fights in school, he was almost suspended completely. He met Zay and Conner, the two boys he was with at the lockers earlier. And it just went downhill from there. He's always so heartless, he never lets anyone get close to him. He rarely dates anyone which was why I was surprised to see him with those girls drooling over him earlier. But besides that, he gets into a lot of fights at school, and he does other things like that. He's dangerous, actually. He was close to almost getting put in jury, but the school never found out. That's why I didn't want you to get involved with him because I was worried. " She said.

I just stared blankly at her. I tried processing everything she just said, but I just couldn't seem to comprehend it. But I understand it now. I just couldn't believe it.

"Thank you for being honest with me." I said. She gave me a sad smile. "Anytime."

Suddenly the subway train came to a halt. I looked at Maya, "What's your phone number?" I asked, pulling out my phone. She typed hers in mine, and I typed mine in hers. "Well this is where I get off." I smiled, but she followed me. "You're getting off here?" I asked. "Well considering I live just right down the road, yes." She laughed. My eyes widened. "Where do you live?" I asked as we both stepped off of the train. "Hamilton Apartments, I live on the fourth floor." She replied with a grin. I gasped. "You're joking with me." I said. "I swear I'm not!" She laughed. "You live on the floor above me!" I screamed jumping up and down like a little girl. We both screamed together like a bunch of five year olds at a slumber party. "This is amazing. You're practically becoming my best friend and we live right below each other." She smiled wide. "Practically becoming best friends? I say that we are." I grinned, throwing my arm around her neck. We walked through the apartment lobby doors, walking up the stairs. "Do you want to have dinner with me and my family? You can meet them, they won't believe me if I tell them I practically made a best friend on the first day of school." I laughed.

"Sure! That'd be nice." She smiled. I can't believe I already have a best friend. Today's certainly been an interesting day, but no matter what, Lucas seemed to be right. No matter how much of a jerk he was, he was still on my mind, and I just can't seem to shake him.
