This was actually the first ever Graphic War that I have ever entered and even though I didn't make it to the final round, I'm actually proud of myself for actually going as far as the third round. One good thing that came out of it was the fact that I actually got MUCH better at using IbisPaintX and also I got to meet a LOT of talented designers whom I didn't know about until I joined the contest. 

Anyways, here are the four entries for the warm-up round + the first three rounds.

around 3 to 4 hours in total, spanning over the time of two weeks (don't judge me, i spent more than a week and a half trying to find the right resources 😭 and then i was having issues with the font and then there's my constant battle with trying to figure out ibispaintx. this would have been less than an hour's work if i had access to pixlr 🥲)

description:
i chose to go with a light fantasy concept where the character's fantasy is to turn into a mermaid. i felt that, as an animal lover, the only place which she could not explore in depth was the ocean because one, not everyone lives near the ocean and two, spending a lot of time underwater for a human even with all the required equipment is obviously impossible. so her ultimate fantasy is to explore, engage and bond with marine life.

and what's better than doing that as a mermaid? it's a win-win situation :)

so about what's going on in the picture... the character is in the process of evolving into a mermaid, hence why I didn't make the tail the main focus of the picture because it's actually 'not there yet.' also i actually made the dress partially cover the tail on purpose because like, when i was a kid i always used to wonder where the dress went when characters turned into mermaids 😂 like, it doesn't make sense for the outfit to just disappear just because the viewers want to have a good look at the tail. so yeah, that's why i kept it and partially hid the tail under it but not too much so that it's completely covered. i know it kinda looks weird but we all know very well that manips + me = disaster, so me making something even remotely decent is a miracle on its own.

editing style/concept: model-based or scenery-based but manipulations ONLY. it could either be a POV (what your character will see when they open their eyes and start their fantasy simulation) or you could depict your character within their fantasy(-simulation). stay as close as possible to the appearance you gave them in the previous quest (unless their desired fantasy is about changing up/alternating their appearance in any way of course).

genre/mood: anything alongside horror or thriller, dark sci-fi, dark supernatural/paranormal and dark mystery is allowed. no rom-com, bubbly or softness allowed, make it dark, make it twisted—let your character experience their very own and very real personal nightmare. do not make up a whole new character or fantasy, use your previously chosen character and its desired fantasy as an orientation, but make it dark and twisted. do not change up your character's personality or the core of their fantasy, but turn their innocent daydream into a horrifying nightmare. 

⸙ENTRY;

description:
turning a mermaid fantasy into a nightmare was kinda hard since i had very few options as to how things could play out. so i went with the obvious— her fantastical creatures in her fantasy world going rampant. since she was planning on befriending all sea animals, being devoured by hostile creatures was not part of her plan at all and hence, turns out to be her nightmare in this case. 

i wanted to make this a bit more "gorey" but man, resources, RESOURCES! i feel like the exact pictures i need go into hiding when i'm hunting for resources and then come out when i'm randomly searching for something else that is completely unrelated to it 😭 but i guess, i did what i could with what i had and—despite the fact that this entry was what kicked me out of the contest— i think it's safe to say that this could very well be my greatest manip yet 😂 honestly, i have never done any manip as time-consuming and realistic-looking as this one (although it's not really THAT good) and i'm kinda(??) proud of it, i guess. i could have done a better job on the tentacles and lighting though, overall it does look kind of flat 🥲

anyways, that's about it, folks! this is where i ended up in the end,

i think ranking seventh is pretty impressive since there were so many amazing designers who freaking slayed! the amount of respect i have for them is just 🤌🏻✨

also, ahhhh we have our first-ever graphic contest sticker!

(sob) i feel so proud even though it's only a participant sticker 😭

ahem, anyways, that's all for this chapter! hopefully, i'll be able to join more contests in the future and keep this book updated.
