II
It was now sunset on the same day. The humans were trying to figure out where I would sleep.
"Why not let him sleep with the other dragons?"
"Because he has human traits, Snotlout. His human half would freeze."
"Astrid is right. I don't mind letting him sleep in my hut, but I'll have to make a new cot beforehand."
"Well, he can stay with me and Windshear until you have another bed set up."
"That's fantastic. Thanks Heather."
I tilted my head, confused. I lost the point of the conversation and didn't know what was happening.
"Loki, follow me."
I looked at the silver human female. She was shiny, but I wanted to stay with Hiccup. What if he was attacked?
"Loki?"
I jumped out of my thoughts and looked at Hiccup.
"It's okay."
I nodded at Hiccup and held onto the silver human's shiny clothes. It was hard and I could see my reflection in it. We were inside her den and she took the shiny clothes off to show a grey shirt and brown pants. I flew into the den's support beams and hung upside down. My tail wrapped around the beam securely as my wings wrapped around my body. My head remained above my wings and I watched the human female and Razorwhip.
The human was sleeping within minutes and the Razorwhip and I were locked in a staring contest.
"I'm Loki."
"My name is Windshear."
"What's her name?"
"Her name is Heather."
"Is she a nice human?"
"To those she loves, yes."
"Does she like me?"
"It's hard to say, but she doesn't hate you."
"Good night Shear."
"Good night Loki."
I lifted my head into my wing cocoon and went to sleep.
<~>
I was woken up the next morning to someone poking my wing. I lifted myself to the beam to sit down, stretch, and yawn. The similar humans had two sticks and were looking at me.
"Breakfast is ready Loki. I'm Ruffnut and this,"
"Is Tuffnut."
"Ruff...Tuff."
"Yup! Let's go!"
I followed Ruff and Tuff to the bigger den and was given something on a bone. It was meat, but I didn't know what it was. It looked strange. I looked at Hiccup and he was eating the same thing. I swallowed and took a hesitant bit of it. It's good, but fish is better. I finished eating and followed Hiccup outside.
He was walking around the human dens with the Nightfury. I grew curious as to what to call the Nightfury. I flew in front of him and stared at him.
"What's your name?"
"What?"
"What is your name?"
"Hiccup calls me Toothless."
"Why?"
He opened his mouth and showed me sharp teeth. I got closer to poke one and they were retracted into his gums! I jumped back and made a sound of surprise.
"That's so cool!"
"I guess."
I patted Toothless's head and noticed Hiccup staring at me.
"You can speak to dragons Loki?"
I nodded my head with my head tilted. Can't all humans speak to dragons?
"I suppose that makes sense since you're part dragon."
I continued to follow Hiccup. Around noon, I decided to follow Toothless and noticed his tailfin.
"Toothy, what happened to your tailfin?"
"I was shot down and Hiccup helped me. He made a new tailfin for me to work with his fake foot. We help each other and protect each other. He saved my life and I saved his."
"Are these humans nice? All the humans I've ever met are real mean to dragons. I spent my entire life in that arena and those humans are all I've ever known."
"I say this without a single doubt in my mind. Hiccup and his friends are the most trustworthy and kind hearted humans I've ever known. They help and protect other dragons. Stick around for a bit. You'll see what I mean."
"Alright. But only a little bit! I want to explore everywhere!"
"I bet. Ask Hiccup to take you to Berk."
"My human tongue isn't very good. I can repeat things I hear, but that's basically it."
"Have you ever tried?"
"No...."
"Try and find out. Practice what you want to say."
"Okay...Ba...Bak? How was that?"
"Try again. Add an r sound."
"Okay, um...Ba..rk? Bark. Did I get it at that time?"
"You're definitely close. Try again."
"This is stupid!"
"No it isn't. Try again."
"Hmph...Be...rk. Berk? How badly did I do it that time?"
"You pronounced it right."
"Wait, really?!"
"Yup. I recommend you go to Fishlegs and get him to teach you to speak."
"But I don't know how to ask him."
"He'll start trying to teach you even if you didn't ask. Or you can ask Astrid."
"Who's that?"
The blonde viking with the Deadly Nadder, whose name is Stormfly."
"I'll try my luck with Fishlegs first."
"Good luck Loki."
I found Fishlegs is another den with a Gronkle and tons of different rocks. He was feeding the rocks and writing stuff down. I tugged on his tunic and got him to look at me.
"Oh, hello Loki. What brings you here? Hungry?"
I almost drooled at the thought of the yummy fish, but shake my head.
"Um, want to...um, I don't know what to do in this situation."
I stared at him and left to find the Astrid lady. I found her and Heather training. I watch for a few seconds, mesmerized. They didn't notice me and Astrid threw what looked like Natter spines at Heather. She dodged and they flew at me. I flew up and avoided a painful three hours of my short life. They now noticed me and ran over.
"Hey Loki. Sorry about that. Want to train with us?"
I, very quickly, shook my head. They would kill me.
"What's up then? Hungry?"
I shook my head, again. I pointed at her then my mouth then back at her.
"You want to learn to speak?"
I smile and nod my head.
"Alright. Come over here and we'll work on some basic words."
I walked over to her and sat down in front of her and Heather as they sat too. We spent the next few hours saying different words, both easy and hard, and me repeating them. By the end I could speak very choppy broken sentences.
I started walking behind the girls back to what they call the 'Main Hut'. I didn't notice Astrid picking me up until I was on her shoulders. I was confused, since both my legs were working just fine.
"I...heavy?"
"You're not heavy at all Loki. In fact, you weigh about the same as a chubby Terrible Terror."
I puffed my cheeks out. Being compared to a Terror of all Dragons.
