I

Loki's pov

I paced near the back of the den. I was a freak. My dragon den mates all called me Loki, saying it was a powerful god of shapeshifting and mischief. I was accepted by the dragons when the humans abandoned me.

I have mostly human features, but I have pure blue eyes with a dragon pupil, dragon ears, wings, a tail, and scales on my forearms, back of my neck, lower legs, and the top of my forehead.

I was captured and locked in a dragon fighting ring by the humans. I was the freakish abomination that wouldn't die. I was alive for eight years and the humans laughed at me as they told me that. I have a distinct hatred for them all. Humans are all the same, until I met him.

I hid the back of the den in the dark as a lithe human male with a mechanical leg and a large black dragon. Natter told me he was a Nightfury. I stayed hidden observing the two newcomers. I could speak Dragonese fluently, but human tongue is...difficult. I know a few words from listening to humans. The door slammed open again and he smirked evilly.

"Freak! You're the opening act today!"

I tried to fly in the support beams, but the green chain was thrown around me and yanked me back down. I growled at him and saw the human male staring at me with an emotion unknown to me. I could feel the fire in my throat so I allowed the steam to flow past my lips as a warning. I received a boot to my stomach and felt my wings and back collide with the painful green cage. The fire in my throat was released as I attempted to, once again, melt my way out of the bars.

"Stupid freak doesn't learn."

The wooden jabby pole was jammed into my mouth, so I broke it with my teeth. I growled at him and reached my arm out of the cage to, hopefully, scratch his eyes out. He laughed and broke the pole over my arm. I yelped in pain and quickly brought it to my chest. I started licking a small gash in the fleshy part of my arm. As I cleaned my wound, the cage was dragged out of the den.

My opponent was a new Gronkle they captured yesterday. He was a deep blue with golden eyes. As soon as my cage was opened I flew at the Gronkle. I inlaid many flesh wounds that only cut their hide. I leaned into his ear to whisper to them.

"Act like you're in pain, and it'll all be over."

They nodded slightly and cowered away from me. As they cowered, they released pained whimpers and groans. The small cuts bleed and were rubbed all around to make it look worse than it was. I was shoved back into the cage, the Gronkle having similar treatment. I didn't do anything to anger the human as my cage was moved and unlocked. I sped out of the cage to the Gronkle. The human male and Nightfury were watching me. I flared my wings to look bigger and growled at them.

I heard the Gronkle shifting so I spun back around. Making light, worried chirping sounds, I gripped my raglike shirt until my knuckles grew white.

"Night, can you help pour water over the new guy? Little Loki is worried to death."

"Sure. Natter, you comfort him."

Natter made her chirping sound to call me to her. I rushed over and curled in between her talons. She gave me a small bath as Night dragged the Gronkle over to the water hole. Gronk helped Night splash the new Gronkle with water. As the blood washed away, the small cuts I made were barely visible. I sighed in relief. I yawned and was about to sleep.

The humans returned, making Natter cover me with her wings. I was able to see the Nightfury and Razor get shoved into cages. The human male tried to protect the Nightfury, but was shoved aside. As soon as they were taken outside and the doors locked again, I crept toward the human male. He turned to face me and I jumped back.

He held out his hand to me and turned his face away. I tilted my head and crept forward again. I snatched his hand and smelled it. I made my way smelling up his arm and over his body. I could smell several dragons on him, but the Nightfury was the most prominent. I stood on the ground and took his sleeve.

I brought him over to the water and dunked my head under. I swallowed several gulps of water and returned to breathe. The Nightfury was back and the human male was inspecting a scratch on his leg. I took off the rag I wore as a shirt and plunged it into the water. I flew over to the Nightfury and wrung the water over the wound. The blood was washed away and the human male wrapped it with a red strip of cloth. I nuzzled the leg and yawned. The hunger pains made me aware that I haven't eaten in days. I curled in on myself and held my stomach, hoping to get food soon.

"Here."

I looked up and saw a deliciously fat fish. I snatched it away from the male and flew to the support beams. I dug into the fish, getting blood all over my face. Natter bit my tail and set me in front of her. She cleaned my face with gentleness and care. I nuzzled her back and flew over to Night.

"Night, is it okay if the human sleeps over here?"

"Tis fine with me, Little Loki."

I walked over to the human male and took hold of his arm. I brought him over to Night and made him sit down. Night warmed himself and I started feeling drowsy. I fell asleep with Night keeping me warm.

<~>

I was woken up the next morning by the human male trying to break Razor's tail out of the binding. I heard someone running toward the room. I panicked and flew to the beams.

"Hiccup!"

Two female humans entered the den and a new Razorwhip broke Razor's binding. The human male broke through the wooden den door with the helping of all the dragons and everyone flew out. I jumped down, landing on top of the human females and flew out too. Stryke was standing with the Nightfury. It seemed they had respect for each other. Humans on top of dragons pulled the cage off of the ring.

I flew in place as all the humans watched me like the freak I was. This time, I didn't care. I flew down to Stryke as the Nightfury showed him how to flap his wings. I followed Stryke as he followed the humans riding dragons. I dove into the ocean and emerged with a fish. I dug in and went back for more fish. I probably ate five fish before I yawned. I landed on the Zippleback and curled up behind a pair of similar humans.

I didn't wake up until the dragons landed on some kind of island. I stretched my arms, back, and wings when I stood up. The human male held my hand and brought me inside a large den. It was warm and smelled really good. I was given a slab of wood with a warm, brown fish on it. I poked the fish with my eyebrows scrunched up.

I smelled it and started drooling. I picked it up and bit into it. I almost ate the fish in one bite. It was so yummy. The humans were talking about what to call me, but I didn't know how to say my name in human tongue.

"Why in Loki's name does he have dragon stuff?"

I looked over and locked eyes with the human female with long blonde hair.

"Agreed. Loki only knows what to call him."

I turned my gaze to the similar male human. The other humans saw me looking. It looked like a large human male lit up.

"Loki."

I looked at him and he made a strange squealing sound.

"Hiccup, I think his name is Loki!"

I stood up and brought the slab of wood over to the human. I held it up to him, hoping for more of the yummy fish.

"Is your name Loki?"

I nodded my head and lifted the slab higher.

"Are you able to speak to us?"

I shook my head, now getting huffy and pushed slab in his face.

"Alright alright."

He put another fish on the slab and I ate it happily. I started to lick my hand then my arm. It wasn't bleeding anymore, but it was still really sore.

"Heather, do you think you could make him some proper clothes?"

"Sure, but it'll take me a day. Wouldn't it be more simple to go to Berk and trade for some?"

"Yeah, but then my father will ask questions and the less people who know about Loki, the better."

"Alright, that makes sense. I get to work right away. In the meantime someone should really give him a bath."

I tilted my head. I had a bath yesterday. Why do I need another one?

"I vote Hiccup should do it. The kid knew him the longest anyway, so he trusts him more."

I don't like him. The loud black haired man sounded stupid and annoying. I threw the slab at him and made a shh sound. That made the blue-wearing female laugh.

"Even the kid wants you to shut up."

The human stood up and started walking out of the den. I ran after him and held his arm. He smiled at me and picked me up. I held onto him as he mounted the Nightfury. He flew to a different hut and went inside. He returned with a dark brown bag. I sat in front of him as the Nightfury flew deeper into the island, to a crystal clear pond.

I jumped down and watched the human male strip down to nothing and get in the water. I took off my ratty pants and swam in the water. The human male dunked his head under and yanked it out and shook his head a little. I copied him and splashed water on him. He laughed and got out of the water.

He dressed himself in new clothes that looked similar to the tough looking clothes he wore before the water. I got out of the water and shook myself to get rid of some water. He slid a dark red shirt over my head and tied a black strip of cloth at my waist. I gave the human male a big smile. He sat me in his lap on the Nightfury and we started back for the human dens. I wiggled free from his grasp and flew alongside the Nightfury. I spun in circles around the human and dragon. I gave a small hiccup and a small ball of fire flew from my mouth. I reflexively flipped in the air and blocked the flames with a downward strike of my tail.

I saw the human dens and sped ahead of the human male. I was inside the den that had the yummy fish and heard the other humans talking.

"Come on Fishface. Do you have an explanation yet?"

"No, we don't have any more information than Hiccup does."

Again with this Hiccup person. Who are they? Are they important?

"Hic...cup?"

I tried to say the name, and I succeeded! After the first try! The humans looked at me, so I said the name again.

"Hiccup!"

I smiled proudly and puffed out my chest. The blue wearing female walked over and kneeled in front of me.

"Yes, good job. Can you say your own name? Loki."

"Loo...ki?"

"Almost there, Lo-ki."

"Lo...ki? Loki!"

"Great job!"

"Say my name! Snot-lout."

That is a stupid name. He called someone Fishface. Maybe I can call him that instead. His face looks like fish after all.

"Fishy!"

The large blonde human jumped and looked at me. He had a huge grin and jumped in place.

"Try again. My name is Fishlegs. Fish-legs."

"Fishlegs!"

The Snot human got in my face repeating his ugly name. I panicked and some smoke came from my lips. He backed off and the human walked in with the Nightfury.

"Hiccup, this kid is learning how to say our names. Though, he only said yours and Fishlegs."

"Really?"

I smiled proudly.

"Hiccup! Fishlegs!"

I was patted on the head by the Hiccup human. I looked at him in surprise and he smiled at me. No one has ever shown me such kindness. I made up my mind to protect this human. Up until now, I always thought that humans were evil, dragon hating monsters. This human, Hiccup, made me realise that there are good humans out there.
