Chapter 6

Late that very same evening Kadrid woke, stretching out her long body like a cat instead of a dragon. She stretched her long ,curvy spine and tail first; then the rest of her body. She got up and looked for the warlock as she often referred to him. She didn't need to look very far. He was in the library going through one book or another.

"Salem, I need to go on my night run."

" Yes, thank you. Have fun." The warlock responded half way paying attention.

She left the dungeon as if her tail were on fire. She was a dragon on a mission. She wasn't happy and flew as fast as her wings could possibly go. The majestic creature flew high above the enchanted forest, the landscape stretched over fifty miles maybe more. Kadrid flew far beyond the forest trying to increase her speed as much as possible, flying over the next few villages.

She looked down and could see a phoenix raven landing in a large tree, then focused her attention to her self proclaimed mission. The dragon needed to have a little chat with her friend Pandora. There were a few questions that needed answering. She flew another ten miles before landing on a soft patch of grass land to rest. She needed a short break before continuing on to her friends village. Taking a few deep breaths while she rested her wings for a few minutes. The long flight took a lot out of her, but she loved to fly. After a good twenty minute rest, the dragon walked the rest of the way until she had reached Pandora's home. She stood next to the bedroom window and let out just one intense fierce dragon's roar.

Pandora bolted as fast as she could outside to see what on earth was going on.She flung open her front door and looked at her with fear and worry. Her eyes widened she put her hand over her chest.

"Kadrid, is everything okay?" She asked

"I don't know." Replied the dragon with a look of fury in her diamond eyes.

"What's going on?"

"I have a question and I want the truth." Kadrid gave her a look of life or death.

"Yes of course, what is it?" Pandora asked, a little confused by the dragon's behavior.

"Did you bewitch Salem?"

"What" Pandora asked, a little shocked at such a question.

"Did you put an enchantment on the warlock" She asked again gritting her large sharp teeth as she spoke.

"Of course I didn't why do you ask?" Pandora replied even more bewildered than before.

"He's acing really weird."

"What do you mean?" The sorceress replied.

"He isn't acting like himself. It's as if his mind is elsewhere all of the time, like he isn't really there." The dragon explained to her friend.

"Is that all?" Pandora asked trying not to sound insensitive.

"He wishes to see you again he seemed rather anxious about it." Kadrid informed her.

"Tell Salem I would be more than happy to see him again." Pandora exclaimed.

"I'm sorry Pandora." Kadrid spoke with shame in her voice.

"It's okay, I know you were just looking out for Salem." She soothed the dragon.

"Thank you for being so understanding. I'd love to stay but I had better get back to the dungeon" She explained to the sorceress.

"Will I see you tomorrow?" She asked the dragon.

"Yes, I'll pick you up just after mid-day." Kadrid replied to her.

"That would be wonderful." Pandora commented as she kissed the dragon on the cheek. She watched the majestic creature take off to the air. She turned and went inside to crawl in bed for the night.

Kadrid flew home with a grin across her face. She was glad to clear the air a little. She trusted Pandora, but had a severe protective streak when it came to her warlock. She always would be. He was lie a father to her, the only real family that she had anymore. She had a deep admiration and respect for him. If she didn't look out for him who would?

The demon fairies or mermaids? She didn't think so. Flying back with a little less speed as before she looked down at the villages below her, then flew in and out of the clouds. It was like a game to her, flying up then dive bombing into the next one. It brought her a sense of freedom that nothing else could compare. Kadrid had so much fun playing in the clouds, she hardly noticed that she was almost home. She looked down and saw the enchanted forest that they called home.

Long before Kadrid returned home, Salem had been spending the evening consuming both research and wine. He had eventually gone through enough of the potent liquor that he passed out in his favorite chair once again. A couple hours later Kadrid walked into the dungeon to find her warlock sound asleep. She smiled as she tip toed off to her favorite resting spot, then curled into a large ball like a kitten and drifted off into a dreamless sleep.

The next morning Salem woke in a daze, it took several minutes for his mind and body to fully waken from a deep sleep. After a few minutes he stood up slowly to steady his balance. Then he headed to the kitchen for a morning wake me up potion, his coffee. As he stood there waiting for it to brew, he wondered about the dragon. He wondered if she were awake yet, or had she flown off somewhere early?

He was planning o look around the dungeon for her once his mug of elven coffee was ready. He only had to wait a few minutes, but it seemed like much longer. He sipped at the steaming brew as he paced the dungeon until he found his sleeping dragon. He didn't disturb her just sipped his coffee as he watched her sleep. He loved her. Salem didn't know what he would do without her. Kadrid had always been good to him. He didn't have the heart to wake her, he went into the study to relax with another mug of the elven liquid.

He refilled the large mug, anticipating Kadrid waking up. She was to send word to Pandora to see if she would like to return for another visit. As he sipped the hot brew, a ton of questions filled his mind at record speed. What if she says yes? What if she says no? What if she's not really interested and only went along with it for the sake of Kadrid's feelings and nothing more? His mind went on playing with his emotions for a while until it made him a little disoriented. After a few minutes of intense focus and thought of her saying yes.

Sipping another mug of elven brew he lost himself in a daydream. He started to think of Pandora as he did, the thumping sound of Kadrid waking up jolted him from the dream like state. He smiled, anxious to talk to his baby dragon. He heard her yawn and stretch before wandering the dungeon to find her warlock. She checked his sleeping chamber. When she didn't see him there she checked the only other place he would be, the room full of books. She went closer into the room and saw him standing there taking a long drink of his coffee.

"There you are, good morning." Salem spoke as he looked up with a smile.

"Good morning warlock, tell me what time is it?"

"It's right around noon why do you ask?" Salem responded.

"I went to see Pandora and asked if she'd like to return. I'm to go get her this afternoon for you." Kadrid explained.

He was taking a sip of coffee when she told him. He reacted in surprise nearly chocking on hos coffee.

"Are you serious?" He asked the dragon.

"Of course, why would I lie about that of all things?" Kadrid asked rhetorically.

"Thank you my dear friend." Salem told her as he stroked her ear like a cat.

She really cared for her warlock. He was the only family she had, the only family she would ever really need.
