Chapter 5

Late the next afternoon, Salem woke with a massive headache followed by a strong desire to vomit. The pungent odor of fresh air and sunlight didn't help the situation. The warlock scrambled out of his bed hoping to find something to counter act his hangover. He went to his potion room then the small kitchen. He stood there for a moment to prepare for it, then downed the potion.

The concoction tasted horrible, the worst thing he had ever ingested. Quickly he brewed a cup of warlock coffee to get the day started. By the first cup he felt back to normal, his throbbing headache gone. Much better he muttered to himself. After the second cup, he was ready to get to work. Standing in front of his altar Salem lit three black candles. It seemed to give his work space just the right magical atmosphere.

He started off reviewing witchcraft text books and then making a few notes in his own grimore. He couldn't focus. Every single attempt was a fluke. His thoughts would drift off in a puff of smoke. Then his mind kept racing back to thoughts of the sorceress. Wondering what she was doing in her village now, or when she would return for a visit? He then started to think in spurts. Would it be too soon to send a message to her?

He didn't know what to do, just that he felt weird. He was anxious and nervous at the same time. He began to pace around the dungeon, his heart was racing. He would ask for another's opinion, but he didn't associate with people that well to trust personal information such as this. He wasn't on those terms with anyone here, except the dragon.

How was he supposed to peruse this woman without looking like a fool? This is why he didn't deal with people, too much complicated issues. It wasn't like a spell or ritual, there was no formula, it was chaotic. There were no right or wrong ways, it was nerve racking to say the least. After clearing his thoughts and snuffing out the black candles, Salem left the dungeon room to find his dragon. He could possibly get her to tell him about Pandora, what she likes, favorite things. He headed through the dungeon, the stairs and then the kitchen with no sign of her. Silly dragon, where was she?

He pondered as he looked out though the tower window, hoping she was just flying or laying in the near by forest. A little disappointed that she wasn't home, Salem took his coffee with him and headed back to the tower. It was a spectacular view over looking the larger than life forest, mountains and the mystic waterfall. He liked to sit out here occasionally and just listen to his surroundings.

It brought him a sense of peace as he felt the winds of change swirling past him. He knew something was going to happen soon. He wasn't sure what but one thing was for sure he could feel it coming. He tried not to think about it as he began to meditate. He stayed in a trance like state for the better part of an hour until he heard a vulture sqaking in an elm tree near the waterfall. He jerked out of his altered state of mind, stretched and walked back to his home quickly. He went back to his work even though it was doing absolutely no good. He kept wondering about Pandora.

He wondered if he would see her again or if she was just being polite for Kadrid's sake. He could easily use magic to spy on her, but he didn't want to do that not with her. He thought he felt a spark between them. He couldn't function properly since they had met a mere couple of nights ago. While he was over analizing his thoughts about the immortal sorceress, he hear a loud thump near the dungeon tower. He smiled and waited for his friend to come in. It always took a few minutes but there stood his favorite dragon.

"There you are, I need to talk to you." Salem told the dragon.

"What have I done?"

"It's nothing of that nature, I want to talk about the sorceress."

"I thought you liked her." Kadrid replied.

"I do like her a lot, I wanted to know do you think it's too early to send a message to her?" Salem asked his friend.

"I wish to rest today, but I'd be happy to send word to her tomorrow." Kadrid stated flatly.

"That sounds good to me." Salem told her.

He then stroked her ears as she curled up and fell into a deep restful slumber. Salem just watched her sleep for a few more minutes before tip toeing out of the room to make a cup of coffee and relax. He still couldn't keep his mind off the sorceress.
