chapter 20
Pandora was sitting in the dungeon wide awake with a distinct case of insomnia. She sat there staring off into the empty dungeon, chained to the floor. The hybrid sorceress was tired and had tried to rest but her thoughts wouldn't allow it. Sitting there most of the night, wondering if Salem was really coming to rescue her or was it nothing more than a romantic delusion. She then wondered if he had given up, finding her not worth the long and difficult journey? Her fears began to cloud over her judgement. She hadn't been fearful of her captor, strangely he had been a really nice guy, especially for a hybrid demon. Her thoughts had begun to run wild, worrying over Salem and his baby dragon Kadrid. What if they really had given up? What if something horrible had happened to either of them because of her? Could she go on living with that kind of guilt? Was the isolation getting to her or perhaps been in this dungeon cave just a little too long? All of these thoughts were flying at her like vampire bats, keeping her mind too jumbled for any kind of sleep. She had considered an escape attempt, but she needed to know for sure that she could get away without being caught. The fact was that she was lost in a diffrent dimension with no clue as to where the portal home would be located.
The last thing she needed was to be lost in a foreign reality, the only other creature she knew here was Braydin, her kidnapper. Those odds didn't seem to be worth the risk. She hoped these fears were wrong, she even prayed to the goddess that these thoughts were not premonitions.Once in a while she would get the two confused. It often put her in an unnessesary panic. She had a few scares like this when she was in her teenage years, when her powers first rose to the surface. It seemed like a lifetime ago. She couldn't get comfortable and knew that she really needed to clear out her cluttered thoughts. Immediatley closing her eyes, the sorceress began a deep breathing exersise. Attempting to meditate for more than a solid hour, yet it wasn't working. She couldn't focus, as if her inner vision were in some type of spiritual fog. It really puzzled her. She had never had a problem meditating until now. She had begun to think maybe it was this place keeping her from it.
could it be there was an enchantment placed upon the cave or the strange dimension that she was trapped in? She didn't know for sure or what could possibly be done about it.The thought saddened her, like a dark and depressive wave of hoplessness had struck her down. Wanting to lash out cry and scream but it was pointless she knew no one would hear her. Suddenly she found herself wishing Braydin was there. It was someone to talk to, anything to break free of this maddening isolation. Being alone had never really bothered her before but it seemed this place had changed her. Unsure as to how much more of this she could take, Pandora concentrated all of her thoughts on the half demon out of sheer desperation. There was no one else she could possibly contact by connecting with thier essance. She couldn't believe her own eyes when fifteen minutes later he strolled into the dungeon.
"What are you doing here?" She asked a little suprised by his presance.
"Everyday between the hours of three and four in the morning i check on you. The question is why are you awake?" Braydin asked leaning closer to her.
"I'm unable to sleep, that's all." She explained with a tiresome look upon her delicate face.
"I can fix that right up, please just excuse me for a moment." Braydin told her in a soft tone before darting off. She gave a confused look in his general direction but waited for his return. It had taken him but a mere five minutes before coming back to her with a large mug. it was heavy and gray. it appeared to be made out of rock or stone material.
"This will help you sleep." He offered it to her with a slight grin.
She nodded, taking the cup from him and hesitating for about three seconds before gulping down the concotion, whatever it could have been, but it worked.
Three days later the hybrid sorceress woke more refreshed than she had in years. Moments after she woke the demon had brought a large breakfast plate to her. She was more than happy to eat, she was starving. Along with breakfast Braydin had also remembered to bring a large full pot of coffee for her. He sat down across from her until all of it had been gone.
