chapter 13
Salem had quietly thanked the gods for Kadrid. Had she not gone to check he'd had never known that Pandora was missing. In fact he would have probably never known Pandora at all. He quickly put out the candles flame and packed a bag. He then headed through the dungeon to find Kadrid awake and waiting for him.
"Did you find out anything warlock?" Kadrid asked him with a panicked look.
"Yes dragon i did. She is in a diffrent reality and we must go find her." Salem explained.
"When can we leave?" She asked wagging her tail with her ears perked up.
"I have already packed my bag." He explained as he climbed onto the dragons back.
"We need to head south. Pandora is trapped in another reality called the grey area." He instructed her.
Kadrid said nothing, just a simple nod before taking off in flight heading south to help save her friend. She flew as fast as she could go without hurting herself, determined to find the immortal sorceress. She flew higher and higher above thier native forest, an enchanting sight to behold this far in the air. Kadrid tried to stay focused on the current mission of getting the halfling warlock to the grey area to save her friend. Kadrid had no clue how long or far thier quest would be. If it meant saving Pandora she would fly for the rest of eternity. She then focused her attention on her warlock riding upon her back.
"Are you comfortable back there warlock?" She yelled so he could hear against the whipping winds this far up.
"Yes i'm quite fine thank you." Salem replied, leaning to her ear.
"Do you think you can save her?" Shouted the dragon.
"If i can't save her, no one can." He stated.
Kadrid fell silent as she flew a little faster. She drooped her head down to look at the forest ground below her. From this far in the sky the huge trees looked more like toothpicks to her. She smiled happy to be flying with Salem. After they flew for a good portion of the day, he suggested the two of them take a break.
"I want to get there faster." She argued with him on the verge of whining.
"It will not help her if you pass out from exhaustion." Salem glared at her as he spoke.
Kadrid rolled her eyes and then landed on a soft patch of grass.
"I hate it when you're right." The dragon grumbled.
"Yes i know that." The warlock responded.
He then climbed down off of Kadrid to stretch his legs for a while. He bent down and opened up his magical bag until he found three pears and gave them to kadrid.
"Thank you i have been hungry."
"You are quite welcome." He replied with a grin.
"Would you mind horribly if we walk for a time?' He asked her in a soft tone before continuing on.
"That way, your wings can rest but we can still keep going." Salem pointed out.
"How far do you think we've gone?" She asked.
"Seventy miles, give or take." He answered.
"Are we still in our own forest?"
"Another fifteen miles and we will be in the other forest, adjacent to ours." He told her.
Kadrid nodded with her ears perked up filled with intrest on anything he could tell her about the forest they were heading into.
"What else can you tell me?" She asked with the curosity of a child.
"It is called the Tydialyn forest, just wait until you see it." He told her.
"I have always just flown over it, but never walked through it." Kadrid told him.
Salem said nothing but gave her a sly grin as they sat there to rest for another fifteen minutes before they began walking south of thier homeland. As the two of them hiked along the dirt trail they came across a large hill. Large by human standards. It gave the dragon no difficulty at all. Once Salem had made it up the hill they saw the Tidyalin forest in all of it's wonder. There were enormous willow trees covered in large teal and silver edged leaves. Further down the path they could see a field of lavender glitter herbs. As they kept going there were tye dyed flowers for miles.
Salem just watched the expressions on the dragons delicate face. He thought she would like it here. Her eyes lit up at every turn. It was like the innocence of childhood captured through the soul of his dragon. She stopped to smell some of the flowers. One patch was a mixture of jasmine and lilac. Further down the patch of smaller ones had a hint of vanilla to them. A few miles down the road she came across these dark purple flowers that had black ends. They smelled like roses. She thought they were gorgeous. When this was all over with she would have to fly back here to explore it. Kadrid was having so much fun she nearly forgot they were in the process of a rescue mission. She hoped the sorceress was not too frightened or mistreated. It worried her that Pandora was in such trouble.
Salem walked along side his beloved dragon, enjoying the view but with less enthusiasim He simply enjoyed being with her. She was a great companion to him. The two fit each other quite well. They would do absolutley anything to protect the other one. They had grown together over the years. The hybrid warlock was sure if anyone could help him on this rescue mission it was his faithful dragon Kadrid.
