chapter 12- The Spellbinder's Gaze
He made a fresh pot of the elven coffee and grabbed two of his spell-books to go over. He sipped at the hot liquid as he milled over the book. He needed to focus all of his energy and concentration on this. He hated the idea of spying on her. He didn't want to do anything that might make her stop seeing him. He also knew the wrong incantation could lead in catastropic results.
Salem hated to admit it but what if the dragon was right? What if something horrible had happened to her? He needed to make sure she was okay, that nothing was wrong. Salem sipped at the steaming brew until the cup was gone and he was halfway through the large and very old spell book. He found something that may help. He looked over the spell several times. For a regular warlock it would be difficult, but he knew he could get it taken care of.
He poured another cup of coffee while he looked over the ingridents of the incantation. He needed to study it, to know it so there would be no room for a possible error. He sipped at the cup while gathering everything he would need for the spell. Then he took the cup into the kitchen and headed back to the dungeon room.
He took a long slow breath. He wasn't nervous over the enchantment. He didn't question his ability to perform it. He was anxious only about Pandora. He hoped if nothing else that she was okay. He cared a great deal more for her than even he knew. He hoped against all odds that the dragon was wrong, but he knew deep down in his soul that she was probably right. If that were the case, he had to help.
Salem arranged everything he would need on his altar and mentally prepared himself for the task. He set each one of the four candles at each corner to represent searching the four corners of the world. He closed his eyes for a moment to achieve a type of inner silence. He wanted complete focus. He needed to find her. He was ready to begin.
"Lost is one so divine, my Pandora help me to find.
Show her to me wherever she may reside.
My intentions are fair, just and kind."
Salem spoke with all of the raw energy he could produce. Then suddenly a bright blue glittered smoke filled his dungeon. He fell deeply into a spell binder's gaze.
He didn't see or hear Kadrid come in and check on him when she was woken by the glittery fog. Salem was in a transfixed state looking for Pandora. When the fog cleared he was lost in a vision looking for clues to help find the immortal sorceress. As he went further into the meditative state, he saw unclear images flashing before him. It took a few minutes to realize it was another dimension. She was in a complete different reality. He looked around and mentally noted it wasn't the underworld, but this place didn't look too far from it. He took in a good clear view of the desolate landscape. He was sure he knew where it was, but why? What would she be doing here? Then he saw another figure come into view.
By the look of the fellow he had to be some kind of hybrid demon. He honestly didn't believe they really existed, until now. He waited hoping to see the sorceress in the vision. He came across a huge cave. Directly inside the cave chained to the floor was his sorceress. Salem's very essance filled with a rage he had never felt before. He was bound and determined to save her.
He held onto the vision a little longer until he heard the demon's name. Braydin, good he could use that information to his advantage. When dealing with demons it's best to know what you're up against. With the name of the demon he could find out the creatures strengths and weaknesses. He knew enough to take action. It appeared that Braydin had taken Pandora by force. She looked miserable and frightened. Then suddenly the spell binder's gaze ended.
