(Polar’s POV)

When I heard what Dabi said I snapped back into reality, but only for a second.

“Best...friends..” I muttered and Ein looked at me.

“What was that?” He asked, “Those aren't your friends; those are monsters! They want nothing more than to destroy you and all of humanity! Even though your a hybrid, if you stick with us humans we can protect you from them and rid the world of them, once and for all.”

I spun around to look him in the eye as I said, “Those are my friends! They would NEVER destroy me or anyone else!”

As I said that I snapped back into reality a little bit more.

“They want to KILL you!” Ein hissed and his eyes were full of hate for Hybrids.

Ein handed me a knife and pointed to Cameron, “Finish him.” He said and Cameron clutched his already wounded side and struggled for each breath.

Flashback

“What are humans like?” I had asked my best friend, Dabi when I was three years old.

“I don’t know, but my mom says she’s met one before and that he’s really nice.” Three year old  Dabi said.

“Oh. Have you met him before?” I asked her.

“I don't think I have. My mom said he has a son our age who is a shadow hybrid.” Dabi said.

“But how would that work if his dad it a human? Wouldn’t the son be a human too?” I had asked.

“Your right! Maybe his dad is a Hybrid like us but hides it so he can live in the town with humans!” Dabi exclaimed.

“But how come we’re cooped up in this mountainside away from all the humans? Are they dangerous, do you think?” I asked.

“I don’t know, but at least I have a best friend like you, Polar!” Dabi exclaimed and hugged me.

“Best friends forever!” We cheered.

Flashback end.

“They’re my BEST friends! I will not hurt a single one of them!” I yelled and snapped back into reality for good.

“What are you doing?!” Ein asked as I turned to him, knife in hand.

“Ending this, once and for all!” I yelled and took a step towards Ein.

“Get back! Stay away from me! Stay away!” He screeched but I took another step forwards.

I threw something down in front of Ein and smoke appeared everywhere.

When the smoke cleared, Ein was trapped inside a cage, just like he had done to my friends.

“What you’ve done is unforgettable,” Sigherra said, “But I forgive you. You might not have known it was wrong at the time but It’s still something that cannot be overlooked and forgotten.”

“I forgive you as well.” Crystal said and stepped up to the cage.

“As do I.” Violet said, as did everyone else.

We all agreed that he should be punished for his actions and would spend a year or two in prison for attempted murder.

(Sigherra’s POV)

I heard a gasp and turned to see Midnight staring down at Cameron’s unmoving body surrounded by his scarlet blood.

“He’s not breathing.” Midnight said, her voice barely a whisper.

My face went ashen and my blood ran cold.

We had completely forgotten about Cameron while dealing with Ein.

“Someone call an ambulance!” I screamed, startling everyone.

A neko girl with shoulder length brown hair burst out of the crowd and froze when she saw Cameron.

“No,” She whispered over and over, “No no no! Not now! Not again!”

We brought Cameron through one of the mirrors that led to the front of the school, where we were met by the paramedics, urging us to get Cameron into the back of the ambulance.

“Let me go with you!” The brown haired neko girl from earlier yelled as she caught up with us.

“First of all-- we don't even know your name. Second of all-- He needs his space. Third of all-- how do you know him?” Violet asked.

“You are aware that he tried to kill us, right?” Zoro asked.

“He it a shadow hybrid but not completely. Half of him is good, half of him is evil, both sides are always fighting to take over and this causes him to have two personalities. Cameron has split personality disorder. I don’t know if you remember me or not, but my name it Reganne. I’m in language arts with you guys.” The neko girl said.

We ended up letting her come with us and tension was in the air as we sat in the hospitals waiting room to see Cameron.

When the doctors came out I decided to sneak in, as did everyone else.

“Is he alive?” Crystal asked in a whisper as she stuck her head into the room.

“Cameron!” Reganne shrieked and ran over to him.

“He has a steady heart rate. I don’t think he’s going anywhere anytime soon.” Violet stated and Reganne let out a sigh of relief.

“So Reganne, what’s your relationship with Cameron?” I asked and her face went red.

“W-we’re not dating, if that's what you're asking.” She said hurriedly, “We’re just friends! I’ve known him for a few years so-- so don’t get any ideas!”

We all laughed, “Relax; we're just teasing you.” Dabi said.

“Welcome to the group!” Blizzy exclaimed enthusiastically.

“Thanks…?” She asked more than said.

“Reganne…?” A voice croaked out and I jumped in surprise.

“Cameron!” She shrieked and hugged him tight.

“Yeah. Totally not a couple.” Crystal said with a small laugh.

“Hey! You shouldn’t be in here! The patient needs his rest!” A doctor exclaimed as he poked his head in.

“Yes Mr. Grumpy head.” Zoro muttered and we all left the room and went back to the waiting room.

“Hi! My name is Lauren! I’m an assistant here at the hospital and will do whatever I can to help your friend!” A werewolf girl with bright blue eyes and long blonde hair exclaimed, running up to us.

“Thanks.” I said, “I’m Sigherra, this it Zoro, Dabi, Blizzy, Violet, Crystal, Polar, Reganne, and Azura.”

“Hey! Why am I last?!” Azura exclaimed.

“You guys seem nice.” Lauren said, completely ignoring what Azura said.

“I like to think we are.” Violet and Crystal said in unison.

“Are you two sisters?” Lauren asked.

“You bet! We’re best friends that can read each other’s minds and are considered sisters by everyone!” They exclaimed together, once again.

“Ah, so you're not blood sisters but close enough to be considered sister's.” Lauren stated and they nodded.

“Well, do you know the condition of your friend?” Lauren asked.

“His vital signs are stable.” Azura said and Lauren wrote something down in a notebook she had.

“Good. He should be out of here in no time at all!” Lauren exclaimed with a smile.

“Thanks so much!” Reganne exclaimed.

“Do you like him?” Lauren asked.

“What?”

“Do you like Cameron; the patient?”

“N-no!”

“Mhm. Sure you don't.”

“Whatever.” Reganne mumbled and went out of the waiting room.

Everyone burst out laughing.

“She can’t take a joke, can she?” Lauren asked as she composed herself and stopped laughing.

“We wouldn’t know. We met her just today, really.” Zoro said.

“Oh. Okay.” Lauren replied and walked into the room Cameron was in.

After about ten minutes she came out with several pages of her notebook completely filled out.

“I just asked him some questions about how he was feeling, if he was nauseous, if he was light-headed, y’know, things like that. You might want to brace yourself for--” Lauren said, but Reganne cut her off.

“Can we go in?” Reganne asked as she walked back over.

“Yes, but only for a few minutes. He still needs his rest, y’know.” Lauren said.

“Thanks so much!” Reganne exclaimed and ran into the room.

(Cameron’s POV)

My ribs feel like thorns are stabbing through them.

Why is it so bright in here even with the lights out?

Why don’t I hear anything except the ringing in my ears?

I saw Reganne run in and go to where I am and her mouth moved as though she was talking, but no sound came out.

The others walked in and their mouths started moving as well, but the results were just the same.

I looked around and saw a notebook and pen by my bedside and grabbed it.

All I can hear it the ringing in my ears.

Am I… deaf?
