Challenged
Kwan's mouth gaped open and his eyes bulged in astonishment. He quickly glanced around, his ears straining to make sure the Alpha's words weren't overheard. He was aware of the rising heat on his ears as she brazenly flirted with him. Her flirting was something that he and his wolf enjoyed.
He chanced a look at her and was relieved when he saw her eyes were not on him. He could tell she enjoyed teasing him from the mischievous smile on her lips.
"Uh...," said Kwan. He was having trouble forming a response to the Alpha's statement. He had no problem telling other females he wasn't interested. But he would be lying to himself if he did the same with the woman five feet away from him. A distance that he was thankful for. His wolf, on the other hand, wanted him to shorten the distance.
His attention was drawn to her when he heard her light, tinkling laughter. She was already looking at him.
"Don't worry, I won't use my Alpha status to force you into bed with me. I was just joking," Alpha Hemming said, her lips curving into a grin.
Kwan met her gaze. Even though she told him it was a joke, he had a feeling those words were true. He cleared his throat and faced the direction they were walking.
He wondered why she flirted with him. He knew every werewolf was blessed with a mate. It wasn't uncommon for unmated wolves to sleep around. He was one of the few who preferred to wait for his mate.
Some wolves weren't willing to wait for their mate so they took a chosen. A person they fell in love with and chose to be with them forever. The bond with a chosen doesn't feel as strong as with a true mate, but some wolves prefer that than waiting.
The wolves that lost their mate either succumbed to their sorrows and perished, or searched for a chosen.
Did she already find her mate, and he died? Is that why I can't sense a wolf within her?
The Crescent Moon Pack was a pack that was feared by every other pack. No one outside their pack knew much about them. So even if Alpha Hemming had a mate, Kwan was none the wiser about it.
They entered the gym and Kwan hurriedly switched the light on. Half the gym floor was covered with foam mats, while the other half was concrete. The room was filled with a variety of workout machines, from treadmills to rowing machines.
Kwan watched as Alpha Hemming made her way over to the punching bag. His eyes were drawn to the wolf howling at a crescent moon tattoo on her back. Beautiful.
His gaze was magnetically drawn to her hips as they swayed hypnotically with every movement.
"You see something you like, cutie?" asked Alpha Hemming teasingly.
Kwan's head snapped up sharply, afraid he had been caught admiring the Alpha's toned physique. He released a deep breath of relief when he saw she wasn't looking in his direction. Get it together, man.
He hurried over to the treadmill to start his workout, afraid he might get caught staring at her again if he didn't.
The sound of her hitting the punching bag filled the room as he ran on the treadmill. He noticed her hits weren't as powerful as someone who possessed wolf genes.
His brow raised as he chanced a glance at her. The bag barely moved from its spot each time she kicked or punched it. Is her wolf really not present? Even a human could do better than that.
Kwan continued his workout, moving on to the weight bench. His skin was slick with sweat as he pushed himself through his morning workout.
A low growl made him stop what he was doing and turned to where Alpha Hemming was standing. The intensity of her gaze made him feel like his body was on fire as she gawked at him.
Kwan's eyes snapped to the doorway as the sound of men's laughter filled the room. He groaned inwardly, knowing that he would no longer be alone with the beautiful female. He turned to face her, but she was no longer staring at him but at the group of men that had entered the gym.
"Oh look guys, I think I've found my woman for tonight," said one of the men. The men with him whistled and laughed.
Kwan's eyes narrowed as he turned to see that it was Rick. The man stood at a height of six feet. His tanned, muscular chest was exposed, and he wore a pair of blue shorts. Rick's light blue eyes were focused on Alpha Hemming.
Rick was among the wolves, who didn't want to wait for his mate. He was a hit with the ladies in the pack. He had so many flings that counting on your fingers wasn't enough.
"And who might that be?" Asked Alpha Hemming. Her eyes wandered around the room as if searching for another woman.
Kwan's lips curved into a smirk. He was happy that she wasn't interested in Rick.
The sound of Rick's hearty laughter echoed throughout the room. "Little one, don't play hard. I know you want this," he said while pointing to his dick.
Kwan's lips twisted into a menacing snarl. "Watch it Rick. You're talking to an Alpha."
"The little thing over there cannot be an Alpha. She doesn't even have a wolf," said Rick.
The men with him nodded in agreement.
Kwan stilled. So they had noticed it too.
"Whether or not she has a wolf doesn't mean you're—" His words died when he felt her presence moving. It felt like there was a sudden shift in the room, a calm before the storm.
Kwan watched as she walked with confidence up to the men. His gaze followed the bead of sweat as it made its way down her neck and onto her shoulder. Not the time, Kwan.
"Are you upset, little one?" Rick asked.
Alpha Hemming smiled sweetly at him. "Let's have a match. The first one to tap out or get knocked unconscious has to do whatever the other opponent asks." She arched one brow, waiting for an answer.
Kwan stood up from the machine and made his way over to them. "I don't think that's a good idea, Alpha Hemming." He was worried about her. Rick was not a simple person to beat.
She turned to face him with a grin. "Cutie, I can handle this little pup. Don't worry, and if his little helpers want to help him, I don't mind."
Kwan could feel his face heating up as Alpha Hemming spoke her nickname for him in front of the other men.
Rick's growl interrupted them. "I'll have you begging on your knees, little one. I will only accept your challenge if it includes me getting your title," he said with a snarl.
Sasha's face broke into a sly smirk. "I think I've angered the little puppy, cutie." She turned to face Rick. "Sure, I'm willing to even accept you requesting help from the men that surround you."
Kwan gaped at her. She could barely move the punching bag, yet she's putting her title on the line. Is she being serious right now?
"Challenge accepted," said Rick with a smirk.
Kwan watched as Alpha Hemming and Rick walked over to mats that had no equipment. Rick had a few inches on her in terms of height. Kwan estimated her height to be at least five feet ten inches.
As much as he didn't want to, he went to start the match. "Remember, the first person to tap out loses. No shifting into wolves. Start!" shouted Kwan as he stepped back.
Kwan wasn't surprised when Rick lunged at Alpha Hemming. He bit his lip as he waited for the sound of their bodies colliding. Only for his eyes to widen when Alpha Hemming sidestepped Rick's attack.
Kwan was amazed that she could time Rick's movement even though he wasn't moving at a normal speed. His jaw dropped when Alpha Hemming slapped the back of Rick's neck.
The sound of approaching footsteps pulled Kwan's gaze away from the fight. He glanced over his shoulder to see Crescent Moon's wolves entering the gym. His brows raised in surprise when they all went on different machines instead of watching their Alpha fight.
Why am I the only one worried about someone I just met?
His head snapped towards the fight when he heard a fierce roar. Kwan stared in disbelief at the sight of Alpha Hemming sitting on Rick's chest and feeding his face with punches.
Blood poured out of Rick's nose as he tried to defend himself.
Kwan tensed as two of Rick's friends, Caleb and Mike, approached the fight. He turned to see if the Crescent Moon's wolves were watching, but to his disappointment, they weren't.
His hands clenched into fists as his wolf surged forward. He didn't move from his spot as Mike and Caleb lunged at Alpha Hemming. "She agreed to them helping Rick," Kwan said to his wolf, who was snarling in his mind.
Kwan blinked twice in shock when he saw Alpha Hemming leaned back to dodge Mike's and Caleb's simultaneous attack. She gripped the two men's necks and knocked their heads together before throwing them aside.
Am I seeing right? Is this the same woman that had been punching the bag earlier? She's throwing around these men like they weigh nothing.
Kwan watched as the rest of the men circled Alpha Hemming. She rolled off Rick, who was unconscious, and stood with an arched brow.
"This looks fun," said Sasha with a blank stare.
"Alpha, please don't break any bones, we need them in one piece when the rogues' attack," said a woman's voice next to Kwan.
Kwan turned in surprise to see Crescent Moon's Beta standing a few feet away from him.
"You might want to keep your eyes focused on the fight, things are about to get interesting. Oh and my name is Beta Lee Ji-a," said Beta Lee. She gave him a sly smile, her eyes twinkling.
Kwan arched one brow but nodded at her in greeting. I don't see how it can get any more interesting than what I witnessed earlier.
Kwan blinked, trying to understand what had just transpired. One minute, five men lunged at Alpha Hemming and the next minute they were on the ground unconscious.
He turned to face Beta Lee with eyes wide with disbelief. "What just happened?"
Beta Lee smirked. "She knocked them out."
"Yea, that much is obvious, but how? They were moving faster than she can keep up with without a wolf."
Beta Lee's laughter was so loud it echoed through the room as she threw her head back. "One word, magic."
"Jia, stop teasing him," said Alpha Hemming, as she approached them.
Kwan turned to her. "How did you do it?"
Alpha Hemming tilted her head as she looked at him. "I spun on my hands and kicked them in their necks."
Kwan's eyes widened in amazement. "How? When?"
She shrugged. "When they were within range."
He stared at her in awe. She was truly a powerful Alpha, even without a wolf.
"So, do I get to take you to my bed tonight?" asked Alpha Hemming.
Kwan's eyes widened in surprise and he stammered, his face growing red in response to her question.
"You're going to give that man a heart attack if you continue teasing him, Alpha," said Beta Lee.
"I...I... Um... I wasn't the one who challenged you," said Kwan.
"But you're the one I want," said Alpha Hemming with a teasing smile. "Do you not want me?"
