CHAPTER 3- Family

The purple atmosphere brightened even more as Jake entered. The surface he stood on rippled with every step. He glared at the two humanoid figures that stood on the other side of the room.

The wolf sat eyes closed, cross-legged on the ground. "Stop staring, unless you want me to do something to you, you'll regret," it growled.

Jake stalked over to them.

"What the hell?"  he hissed.

"What?" Axel asked leaning against a surface.

"What did you do! All of a sudden my chest started to hurt then everything was........." Jake trailed off.

Axel levitated over to him. "Be happy I didn't kill anyone. I was going to kill the oddball. After I had tortured him and ripped his heart out of his stupid chest!" he said angrily. "But the female distracted me and I missed- by less than an inch too! Do you have any idea how bad that's going to come back to bite us?"

"Who female?" Jake asked. "Cassandra?"

"Duh."

"So no one died?" Jake confirmed.

His wolf growled. "Why does that sound like a question? He's telling you no. Maybe if  you hadn't wasted time, we could've killed them both,"

"Tell me about it," the vampire agreed.

"I'm sorry I didn't do that while I was being tortured," Jake sassed before sighing with relief.

"Like we don't feel the same pain," Axel scoffed before they all fell into a tense silence.

The tension grew thick as the two heads turned towards him. Two pairs of glowing eyes, one electric blue and the other red stared at him intensely.

"W-What?" Jake stammered as he looked at the ground, avoiding their eyes.

His wolf growled while Axel grinned, glistening fangs flashing in the light.

Jake stepped back, seeing the mischievous glint within the crimson irises.

"Oh this is gonna be fun," Axel smiled.

Shit! Jake turned to move, but he was too slow. His body was slammed down and pinned against the floor, causing a large ripple to spread around the room, diffracting from his body.

His wolf hovered over him amused, while Axel stared at him.

"What! Let me.......go!" Jake said struggling briefly.

He stopped suddenly as realization struck him. He was powerless in this space without his halves. Furthermore, he was dealing with two S-class monsters and their abilities- vampiric and werewolf strength. It was hopeless! His hands were pinned above his head and small glowing golden chains bound them to the floor.

The wolf released him and Axel hovered over him.

"You're hopeless," his wolf said.

"Would you two leave me alone?! What do you want from me?" Jake screamed as he squirmed against the chains.

"Look at me," Axel said lowering himself before straddling him.

Yeah right. I'm not falling for this again, Jake thought to himself, looking away. He stared at a purple wall, sending all his frustration at it as his expression turned into a glare.

Axel snarled. "First, you deny me a feeding frenzy. Then Cassandra and you stop me from killing that bastard! Frickin' look at me, J!"

Axel forcibly turned Jake's head to look at him. His eyes locked with the other boy's and Jake knew that was a mistake.

Shit, Jake thought getting pulled into Axel's trance-like gaze. His mind focused on the glowing crimson that seemed to swirl as his mind got pulled closer to the dark abyss of the pupils.

"I honestly don't know what more you want from me," Axel sighed. "You stop me from killing someone who wants to kill us, for what, some semblance of morality? That creature was not human. He wanted to do us harm. You're suddenly stopping me over this because you have conscious thought and it can get us killed. You are screwing me over here. What next?"

Jake didn't reply - he couldn't reply. He was lost in the ocean of deep, fierce red. Was he right? Sweat poured from him as the trance got deeper.

His wolf sighed before speaking. " Wake up. Time for you to go,"

                                                *             *           *

Murmuring

No voices talking. This is clearly a conversation, Jake thought as the sounds started adjusting.

His sensitive werewolf hearing tuned in as his brain woke up. Somewhere in the alley below a cat screeched. Elsewhere, a male screamed as he was attacked. Jake tuned that one out focusing on the conversation inside the same room as him, careful to keep his breathing steady and movement relaxed and minimal.

"He still needs more training," a male growled. "He is too weak,"

Who's he calling weak? Jake thought slightly angered.

"Whatever, dog," a female said. "His strength, is that what you're concerned with? Then you are more shallow than I thought. Let's focus on the main point here -"

"Of course I'm concerned with his strength! He comes from one of the longest and strongest pack of werewolves! He gave someone who was going to do with him mercy. I feel like training just went to crap. If he can't take a stand with this, what's going to happen to him after? " the guy interrupted.

"He also comes from the strongest clan of vampires! Anyway, we are getting off track. Are you  blind, wolf! He didn't even attempt to use any of his powers - vampire or werewolf. There is clearly something wrong. We need to do something now," the female said. "But since you're so concerned on his strength and not what's in front of you, I'll leave you you in your blissful ignorance. You're on your own,"

The man growled at her - shaking the room. "Shut up, he's waking up,"

Jake felt a hand on his forehead. It pushed his hair back, exposing his eyelids. "Jakey,"

Oh sure, now you notice me. Now that you're finished talking about me like I'm not there, Jake thought.

He grumbled and turned over. He wanted to go back to sleep, yet his mind was troubled. That was the strangest conversation he had had with his wolf and vampire ever. Something was wrong. Dead wrong. It poked from deep within his psyche. Or at least about to go tragically wrong. Either situation would not end well for him.

"Wake up," Kyle ordered.

Jake opened his eyes and instantly sat up with a slight groan at the command.

He stared into the blue eyes of Kyle. Muscular, tall, authoritative and well - built with black hair. His very presence screamed control ad dominance as expected from an Alpha. He was one of the few people on the planet that could terrify Jake.

"What's up bro?" Jake asked him.

"Don't talk to me until you tell me until you yell me what the hell is going on with you," he replied icily.

Jake cringed. That would be ......difficult. And the wrath rolling off him would not make that any easier.

"How are you?" The young woman asked. Hoop earrings, a chain and a clip held back her short hair decorated her head- all made of gold.

"I'd be better if you'd let me go back to sleep, Cassie," Jake  grinned, teasingly.

Cassandra pulled on his ear lobe repeatedly. "You're a random little monkey, little brother,"

"Ow.......ow.......ow............ow......OW!" Jake yelled at each tug.

She stopped and smiled.

Jake frowned. He felt like his ear was about to fall out.

"Come on, get up, time to go," Cassandra said pulling him up.

"Go where exactly?" Jake said, hesitantly eyeing the packed suitcase on the bed.

Damn, those two moved fast. They weren't going to let him live this down.

"You're spending some time with both of us," the woman said. "Half at the castle and half at the pack house,"

"Um, this doesn't have anything to do with me and the fight with the shape shifter does it?" Jake said, trying to mask his worry.

"No," Cassandra said, her hazel eyes glistening.

"Yeah, right," Jake murmured, getting dressed.

"Of course it is. I'm going to rip you apart, piece by piece," Kyle growled.

Jake almost fainted. This was his worst nightmare. He was essentially going to be engaged in awkward social interaction with numerous purebloods for no reason and confined to one area. This sounded so delightful.

"Yes do that, and when I surface I'll rip you all to shreds wolf!" Axel said laughing at the back of Jake's mind while he started putting on clothes.

"I'm not staying in a house filled with vampires or werewolves for any reason whatsoever," Jake hissed. "I like to be alone,"

"This isn't a discussion. We're you're legal guardians and you're doing it. This isn't a debate," Cassandra sighed.

"Um, yeah, it is," Jake replied. "Last time I checked I'm still allowed to have free will. And I say 'no',"

"That's what you think," Kyle smiled.

"No, it's a fact," Jake said pulling his long sleeved shirt over a pair of jeans and a pair of sneakers.

Moving at inhuman speed, Jake was suddenly in the window.

"You're going to run, aren't you?" Kyle asked with a smirk.

"Jake, you're going to be a loner, unless you socialize," Cassandra sighed.

"Yay! Let me be a hermit then,"

"At least make this fun," Kyle called out, watching him fall out the window.

Kyle followed jumping out as well, shifting half -way down into his wolf form and landing lightly on his feet.

Cassandra followed as well, levitating the entire way.

                                                *               *              *

Jake sighed, sitting down. He had been on the run from his siblings for thirty minutes now. They were going to catch him anyways even if he didn't want to go. They were just toying with him. It was nice to play around like this with them, every once in a while.

Being an Alpha or vampire lord, especially one on on the council didn't exactly give you much time to fool around.

Kyle was an Alpha of a werewolf pack. Leader of the Blue Moon Pack to be precise. With great power, definitely came more responsibility of running such a large group of werewolves. An Alpha was kind of like the mayor of a large community - the territory.

Cassandra on the other hand was a Lord, well Lady, an aristocrat in the vapire world of monarchy. She was also recently appointed to the Vampire Council - a group of the oldest and most powerful elite vampires in the world. They were basically the law and made decisions that affected the entire world of Sylrica- the vampire world, that is. So, his siblings were powerful, crazy and legally responsible for him in both the human and monster world.

There was his grandmother, too, but she was advanced in age and signed all the necessary paperwork for the human world since he was a toddler. As she said 'In case something  should happen to me and social services and the government got 'suspicious' or asked questions.' He was stilll underage after all- phsically and mostly everything else. He lived alone mostly on weekends by choice, but he would attend human school as much as possible, and visit the old woman often - very often. She was human, yet, dangerous and funny. Her wit had yet to be matched.

Realization dawned on him that he needed to use the word 'dangerous' to decribe his immediate family before his instincts took over. Jake jumped out of the way as a vast black wolf hurtled towards him. It landed on its paws. The tip of its tail, paws and a little bit of its chest had silver fur, standing out from among the rest of the glistening black fur.

The wolf was beyond bigger than normal ones- all five feet of it. Its cool ice-berg eyes stared at Jake, stalking towards him. Jake kept stepping back thinking about how majestic and impressive Kyle was in his wolf form. He heard laughter behind him and turned around.

Cassandra, red-eyed and with elongated fangs laughed at him. "How far did you think you could go?" she said walking up on him.

Jake turned, now looking at his siblings slowly cornering him. Why were they so exhausting?

"Axel," Jake thought.

"Yeah," his vampire half replied.

"I'm going to use your powers now, like a lot, but you are not taking over, got it?"

"Sure, why not? If they give you a chance to use it," Axel chuckled.

"Oh, quiet you!"

Without warning, the wolf lunged at him. Jake didn't have any time to dodge and Kyle had him in his jaws.

" Let go, you stupid wolf!" Jake shouted as it shook it's head sending Jake from side to side with it. He squirmed as its jaws enclosed his waist, molars poking at his ribs.

There was a loud powerful growl, that shook the building.

"OK, sorry for calling you stupid," Jake said still trying to escape as it's now black eyes, stared at him. "You're Kyle's wolf, aren't  you?"

The wolf placed him gently on the ground and nodded it's giant head. Jake stared at its fur, a line of silver ran down its snout. He reached out to touch it. The wolf growled again at the sudden movement. Jake gasped and backed away. It growled again.

Jake stopped moving. "W-what then?"

It leaned down , bowing its head- an invitation to touch. Jake reached out and stroked it's soft fur. It was soft, thick and silky. It was nice. His hands moved down to its neck, petting and stroking. The wolf, now with blue eyes, looked at him and licked his face.

Jake laughed. It tickled. "Quit it!" he laughed, putting his hands up to protect his face.

Kyle grabbed his arm with his jaw, careful not to hurt him.

"Hey, let go!" Jake laughed. It could snap his forearm with just by closing its jaw with too much force. He was powerful. His instincts kept warning him, this was a creature based monster. Kyle let go and started licking him again.

Jake squirmed, laughing, trying to get away, which was futile.

"Okay! I give up!" Jake giggled before dissolving into crying with laughter.

Kyle shifted back to his human form as the crack of bones could be heard. He smirked.
"You finally give up?"

Jake wiped the tears, from his eyes. "Never have, never will," he said. "but your fur's really soft. Shift so I can pet you again,"

He reached out his hand.

Kyle grabbed it." Another time; my wolf said to tell you hi for some reason and...." he growled. "Don't you ever even try to command me again," his blue eyes glowed.

Jake averted his gaze to the ground in a sign of submission. "OK,"

"Good," Kyle replied. "Let's go,"

"What?" Jake gasped. "Hell, no"

The child felt a light pinch at the back of his neck.

"Ow!" he yelled. "What'd ya do that for!"

"Because you're so stubborn,'' Kyle answered. "Talk back and I'll pinch you again,"

Jake whimpered. "Jerk,"

Suddenly, he was thrown over someone's shoulder. The aura was familiar.

"Cassandra put me down!" Jake screamed.

She started levitating, Jake in one hand, over her shoulder and suitcase in the other.

Jake struggled. "And Kyle put clothes on!" he yelled, just noticing the man was in his underwear alone.

Usually when someone shifted to their wolf form, they lost or destroyed their clothes. Kyle waved mockingly at him. Jake stuck his tongue out in rebellion.

" I swear you two are going to regret this," the boy growled feeling his powers start to peak.

"Whatever," Kyle called out, disappearing.

Jake felt the sudden rush of air, passing his body.Cassandra was moving at hyper speed. He had only ever heard about it.Suddenly, he felt himself landing on something soft. She smiled at him and left the room. There was a soft click and Jake was left alone in the large bedroom.
