CHAPTER 2- ATTACK!
He could sense the bloodlust coming from the creature. A demanding presence stood behind the young hybrid, taunting him.
Calming himself, he turned around slowly. " Who are you?"
A faceless, tall man stepped out of the shadows in a black one piece suit. "It talks," he said his voice emotionless and hard.
"Who are you?" Jake asked again. He was already fed up of him.
"Let's rip his throat open," his wolf growled, extending claws.
" Um, how about no," Jake said trying to calm him.
" You're the hybrid, I assume," the man said, his voice breaking Jake out of his inner struggle.
'' You know if you're stalking me, you shouldn't be presuming and asking me stuff. You're terrible at this," Jake pointed out.
"Mouthy one, too," the guy said surprised.
"Takes one to know one,'' Jake shot back, glaring at him.
"I'll enjoy bringing you in."
Jake didn't reply as he flipped into the air, dodging the guy who had knocked of the chunk of concrete he was just sitting on, with a single punch.
" Now do you believe us?'' his wolf and vampire asked.
" Yes!'' Jake thought as he kicked the stranger, watching as he crashed into and went through the opposite building.
He looked up. A familiar sensation washed over him.
Kyle and Cassandra.
They were watching him yet again.
He trained his vision back to his opponent. The faceless mask came off, revealing jagged, pale burnt 'skin', if it could be called that, with red patches and yellow stuff oozing from it.
Jake's hands clamped over his mouth. Dinner was about to come up.
Keep it down. Keep it down, he chanted to himself.
He saw a lot of disturbed things but this was the only thing that made him sick. It took the cake.
"What?" It snarled.
"Dude, put the mask back on! Your ugliness is killing me! My eyes burn," Jake screamed.
A growl later and Jake knew he had hit a vein.
Point #1.
Kyle smirked. The idiot.
Jake smiled at its fury, sidestepping and driving his fist into its face sending it flying.
" What did you do?!" Axel screamed.
"What?"
" You touched its face! Look at your hand!"
His wolf laughed as Jake shook his fist. Yuck! There was no way in all four realms he was going to look at his hand. Who knows what muck was left on it!
He looked over the ledge. Other than a big indentation in the brick work, the guy just stood there - trembling.
"I didn't believe I had too, but looks like I'll have to attack with the intent to kill!" his voice deepened and turned to a roar.
Jake swore as it transformed and rose above him, burying him in its shadow. He'd only threw a few punches at this point. This monster was way to aggressive.
A great ugly creature in the shape of a quadrupedal animal's skeleton stood before him. Lifeless empty eye sockets stared out at him. It stood on its hind legs, bony snout pointed skywards.
The head turned down and the empty sockets seemed to stare at Jake. A jaw filled with rows of sharp teeth seemed to smile at him.
It crashed down on all sharp clawed fours, shaking the building. The sound of bone scraping and devastating tiles and brickwork as it moved. A long vertebrae-filled tail swished back and forth- slicing the air and ripping to shreds the brick work and everything it touched.
Jake swallowed. He may have felt a smidge of regret -just a smidge- in angering it at the moment.
He didn't move though, just stood there observing it.
The jaw seemed to widen more. Was the thing smiling?
Without warning, the skeleton beast moved forward.
Jake barely had time to dodge as it came at him. He landed on the ground and flipped unto his feet.
It was fast.
A claw dashed down unto him.
Jake ducked out of the way and watched as it easily destroyed the surrounding brickwork, leaving a indentation with the print of its claw.
This thing was beyond fast and had brutal strength, Jake observed.
So he had to avoid the claws! he thought as he flipped through the air- dodging two of them this time. He landed on his feet.
The skeleton beast seemed to smile again.
Why was it amused? Jake knew he was out of its reach.
Suddenly the air was sliced and Jake was sent flying by its tail.
His back crashed through brickwork and then through a metal surface- no doubt leaving a dent.
Jake coughed up blood.
He didn't have time to register as it crashed through the building after him- claws extended.
Jake closed his eyes as the skeleton beast brought down a sharp nailed claw.
He opened them slowly waiting to feel pain searing through his being. Instead, the man stood before him again, a smirk etched into his face.
Jake tried to move but the claw had pinned him to the wall.
Shit!
"Amusing, I can't even smell fear on you," he said.
"What do you want from me?" Jake inquired impassively.
"Hhm, I wonder," he replied his features changing before Jake's eyes.
Suddenly, one of his arms was a blade. It scraped along the ceiling revealing wires above.
"Have you ever wondered what happens when electricity moves through a living creature?"it said darkly.
Jake's eyes widened. Was he kidding?
"You still have no fear," it said slicing above leaving sparking wires falling.
"Don't worry you will find out on a minute," it said pressing a sparking wire against the boy's arm.
Jake screamed as the electric current flowed through him causing his body to convulse.
The man smiled at the sound of his repeated screams.
He stopped. "Don't have that smart mouth anymore do you? Pain will be your teacher."
Jake panted. His heartbeat was slowing down. His lungs burned trying to return as much oxygenated blood to his heart as it could, pushing the organ to function and help the rest of the body. It hurt more than the electricity did.
His body quickly recovered from the shock. Rearing back, he kicked the ugliness away from him. The man hit the floor.
With a burst of strength, Jake broke the claw pinning him against the wall and stood up clutching his chest.
It still hurt.
The man grabbed him by the throat and threw him to the ground then against the wall and held him there.
Jake gasped as he squeezed his throat, cutting his air off.
Suddenly, he stopped and brought his face close whispering. "Be happy I have to bring you back alive,"
"Get your ugly face away from me before I puke on it! It already looks like the inside of a toilet!" the boy yelled his fist implanting into the man's chin.
There was a growl as he changed again. The skin of his face changed.
Jake stared at the handsome face, he was now seeing- a young green eyes, high cheek boned, brown- haired guy instead of a half-deformed witch.
"Wait, you're a shapeshifter?!" Jake screamed.
"Tch. Duh! What did you think I was?" He replied " A fairy!"
"Then why did your face looking like shit?"
"I'm not obligated to reply to that. I felt like it."
"Whatever, Shit-face!" Jake taunted.
"That's it. I don't care what anyone says you're dead," the guy growled.
"Not so fast," Another man said stepping out of the shadows. He was also tall and had long jet black hair, grey eyes and four piercings on his right ear lobe.
"What do you want?"the shape-shifter said.
" Todd, remember your job," the other said.
"You don't own me," Todd said.
The other was about to respond.
"WAIT!" Jake yelled.
The two young men turned toward him.
"Really! You should have used that opportunity to escape!" his wolf gasped in disbelief.
"I'm not sure that's possible," Jake's thought " Plus let's face it I'm weird like that,"
Out loud, he said. "Your name's Todd?"
"What if it is?" The shape-shifter scowled.
Jake smiled. This had to be a joke.
"You meet me and 'presume' I'm the person you're after, but you're stalking me so you should know. You don't go around asking your target if their your target. Like a damn noob. Next, you have a gut ugly face when you actually look better and more intimidating like this. Then your name's Todd. Are you kidding me? If you want me to be scared of you at least pick a name that strikes fear into someone's heart but Todd? That's just odd. Maybe Shit-face really does suit you," Jake said finishing "In short, you're terrible at reconnaissance and a shitty mercenary, "
Axel slow clapped at the back of his mind and added with sarcasm. "Yay, lecture them. Like that's gonna kill somebody,"
The other man gasped at Jake in surprise.
Cassandra face palmed herself repeatedly. Was he crazy? She knew he was random sometimes but this.......
She sighed.
"I'm going to enjoy breaking you piece by piece. Probably rip off a few limbs," Todd said advancing towards him " Maybe then you'll learn to shut up,"
"I think I'll keep him as a pet," the other man said darkening "If he annoys you this much,"
THUMP!
Jake crumpled to his knees as his heart sent pain through him. His chest hurt. Axel was trying to come out.
"I've had enough of this J," Axel said his voice low.
THUMP!
"You're getting weak," Todd said amused.
"St-Stay away from me!" Jake screamed in pain.
He was wrong his body was getting stronger.
His blood was taking over.
THUMP!
His heartbeat slowed, everything seemed to be moving slower.
THUMP!
His senses heightened.
He could hear the blood rushing through the men's veins.
THUMP.
Jake gasped and looked around.
He was back in his mind world. No one was there.
The purple atmosphere glowed and shimmered. Then swallowed him up as darkness consumed him.
Todd stopped short of him. The boy's eyes were shifting between brown and red.
"St-stay away from me!" He yelled.
"Not on your life," Todd muttered "Not when you're getting weaker,"
Todd stopped as Jake stood up, without warning. He started laughing. His eyes opened- now with red irises.
Axel smiled and stretched. This was going to be fun.
"Now here's the deal," he said inspecting his now lengthened fingernails "You both run now, and maybe I'll consider making your deaths quick,"
The other man stepped back, the kid's aura had suddenly spiked and become murderous and deadly.
"You're one to talk," Todd said transforming.
"Fine, have it your way," Axel looked up his eyes almost glowing red now. He was suddenly on the ceiling.
The room darkened and got colder.
"Eeni, meenie, miny, mo both of you will have to go," Axel said pointing between the two "But who's the first to go? And the one who got his heart ripped out was- you," his finger landed on the now skeleton beast Todd.
The bony tail sliced through the air again.
Axel caught it and ripped it in two. " The same trick won't work twice!"
It transformed back to a now injured Todd. He panted.
Axel flashed in front of him and raised his hand. Then brought it down with murderous intent.
"Enough!"
Axel gasped. His hand went through the guy's chest but he had misses his heart.
Thanks a lot Cassandra. Her voice had thrown him off.
"We have to talk, Jake," she said.
Axel smiled, still turned away from her. She has no idea. Jake was currently unavailable.
"Now," she said turning to the two assailants "Let's finish this quickly,"
