CHAPTER 17- Eye of the Storm

Jake's black converse sheathed feet landed lightly on the grassy forest floor, as his descent ended.

He walked past the trees and out into the clearing where all the pack buildings stood.

The boy sauntered over to the Main House. He looked up at the vast mansion.

The front doors were slightly ajar...strange.

Jake felt it before he saw what it was. He instantly ducked, hearing a THUD! as it flew over his head. It was familiar but still instinct ignored that fact. It could pose a threat.

"Really, it ?" Axel sighed "Quit it with the damn pronoun game and look behind you,"

Jake turned, seeing one of the twins sprawled out on the ground behind him.

He sighed. " What have I told about sneaking up on me?"

The  tan skinned blonde sniffled as they sat up.

"You're being mean," Danny sniffled upset.

"No, I'm not. It's called  correction," the boy replied apathetically, turning back  around.

"I won't do it again," Danny sighed in defeat, freezing at the boy's cold tone. "Maybee....."

"Are you coming or not, young one?" Jake called behind him.

Danny grinned.

Seconds later, Jake resisted the urge to dodge before the weight of a body landed on his back, limbs wrapping around his torso and neck. Nothing was learned.

He felt, the child bury their nose in the crook of his neck, inhaling his scent. "Yummy," Danny sighed contentedly.

"Where's your sibling?" Jake quizzed, locking his hands behind his back  underneath the child piggy backing him, as he entered the front doors looking around.

There was only a slight buzz to the place with life as it was a weekday. Most adults were just finishing work. Teenagers wouldn't likely be returning anytime soon. He hunted around, following the other twins' scent.  The ground floor sitting room, the dining room.... did the child frolic around the entire house?!

Wait, he took that back. Patty was a child- a very eccentric child....

Danny had slipped off his back and run off at some time or another.

His nose led him to the kitchen to this sight as his eyes flash blue. The microwave was on and Patty  in a blue shirt and black shorts had their head leaned against the glass singing.

" Head on the glass, but I'm not scared of Cancer!
I should listen but I don't care cuz I've  got.....
Ten hundred pieces of popcorn, I got ten hundred piece of popcorn, ten hundred pieces of  popcorn,
I got ten hundred pieces.......of.....POPCORN!" Patty sang as the microwave squealed, signaling its completion.

That sounds like the tune for Ariana Grande- Problem. They have definitely been listening too much pop music, Jake thought before speaking. "You know you could get sick from doing that so much. Stop it,"

The child had a habit of standing near and watching through the glasss and watching the food in its heated belly spiral as it cooked.
Patty jumped slightly in surprise, however, it was unnoticeable at the voice behind. Why didn't the presence alert them or set off ANY bellls?

Jake was masking his presence again. Amusing.

"But inside is so bright, Jakey," Patty said with a large bowl of popcorn in hand before returning into song "I know I probably could get sick Jakey and Mommy told me, but I'm tempted! Come on Jakey, it's popcorn. Look at all of this popcorn- popcorn, popcorn, POPCORN!"

"Speaking of which, how much did you make? Are you going  to watch a movie with a few others or something?"

"No. I just threw a whole bunch of popcorn packs in in the oven. It didn't look like much but now, not so much....I guess," Patty trailed off.

The boy looked down amusedly at the young one, picking the child up.

Patty squealed a bit in surprise.

"You really are rather troublesome, aren't you?" he said, his voice deepening slightly.

Patty started singing again. "Now you're looking at me weirdly! Danny come help because I'm sure this isn't Jakey!"

A chuckle escaped the young male as he looked down while the young child looked up into a pair of bright electric blue eyes.

"Am I in trouble?" Patty whimpered.

"No, why do you ask?" Luca said, glancing over his shoulder. Where was the other one? This was strange. What were the little rascals planning?

"Luca, you only come out, when I do something wrong,"

The wolf resisted rolling his eyes. "That's not what I'm here for,"

That's when he felt it and smirked.

The wand raised as Danny aimed at Luca's back.
It was white in colour with a spherical blue orb topping it, white golden and silver spirals circled it and decorated its base. Danny's eyebrows furrowed in concentration. The child gasped as the target disappeared and the wand was yanked away.

Luca smirked as he reappeared behind the child.

Danny froze and slowly turned around at a presence behind....

The child squealed as they were suddenly yanked backwards and upwards.

Luca tucked the struggling twin beneath his arm.

"Danny, I thought I said help me. Where in those two words did you hear ' get captured'? " Patty pouted childishly.

"Hmm, I don't know, maybe the part where, I LOST MY WAND!" Danny sniffled, trying not to cry.

"I'm....sorry," Patty said guiltily feeling their counterparts hurt. They hated seeing their twin hurt and crying.

"You should be," Danny almost screamed.

"Who do you think, you're trying to yell at?" Patty growled, taking back that apology almost immeadiately. This was about the respect.

Luca sighed. This could take a while. Hopefully, he could sleep in peace after this petty squabble without the clingy children insisting he spent no time with them.

                                           *                               *                           *

"You're welcome,"

Jake turned to his other side, looking at the pair of electric blue eyes staring at him. "For what?"

"Me giving you back control of our body," his wolf replied.

"When and why would I ever say 'thank you' in the first place?" Jake sassed.

"You didn't need too," Luca grinned cheekily.

Jake rolled over on his stomach, the green grass cushioning him as he resisted the urge to roll his eyes.

This entire situation with talking to his wolf was so new. At least is wasn't awkward.

Now was Luca's turn to resist rolling his eyes. " You don't need 32 years of experience to get 'used to' talking to me, Jake,"

"Are you sure?" the boy insisted sitting upright "Maybe I should add a decade or two to that time frame,"

"That seems like a very specific period of time," Axel commented.

"What? Pfft...no. Oh, think  what you will," the wolf sighed.

"Are you sure?" Jake whispered mischievously.

Luca did not even have to pause to consider before answering. "I take that back,"

"Joy killer," Jake pouted.

"I don't want a train wreck of random  bizarre thoughts rushing through our head at 650 miles per hour and not stopping,"

"Oh please, my thought process is not  that  random,"

"Wanna bet kid?"

Jake rolled his eyes but didn't reply.

A light breeze caressed his body with its cooling touch, further adding to the serenity of the atmosphere. It was hard to believe that something this beautiful could erupt from the chaotic wreck this part of his mind was before.

"Hey Luca...."

"This landscape does exist in the physical world. This is a mental copy of it from memory. I'll take you there one day. What's bothering you?"

"Everything feels so calm, so peaceful. I can't help but worry something will go wrong," Jake sighed.

"Something will  go wrong. People just won't allow you to live in peace," Luca confirmed "This is only the calm before the rest of the storm. We're in the eye of the hurricane, waiting for the final wave to hit in an endless cycle of storms, all trying to erase our existence,"

"So what do I do now?"

"Enjoy it while it lasts and treasure whatever moments you can. The rare ones of content and happiness,"

"I'll make sure to binge on lots of candy then," Jake smirked mischievously.

"Don't you dare," the boy's counterpart growled.

"Well pray I don't find any,"

              *                                                      *                                              *

Short, dark shadows loomed over the boys sleeping figure, their shapes stretched by the setting sun.

"Should we ensure the situation is rectified?"

"Aww, he's so cute when he sleeps!" the other shadow cooed.

"OI, I'm asking a question brat!" the first whispered harshly. "Wait, is that candy?"

Their head snapping to the basket on the dresser.

"What happened to being serious?" the second one snickered.

"It's CANDY!" the first one whined.

"Pfft, whatever child," the second one snapped back.

"Let's check,"

They both placed their hands on Jake's abdomen and chest respectively, chanting. A purple glow, emanated from his chest, slowly waning in intensity.

"Oh Goddess, it didn't work!" the first shadow mumbled frustrated, as they stopped chanting.

The second one hummed in acknowledgement.

"What do we do now?"

"Switch it up a bit,"

A floral yellow spiral appeared on the boy's forehead. It slowly turned blue, the colour flowing outwards from the center, slowly filling the mark.

Jake groaned and squirmed as the mark disappeared, slowly dissipating into him, still unconscious, however.

"Shit! Is he d-?" the first shadow began to ask.

"No, his body is adjusting. Let's disperse before the spell breaks,"

"Oui, mon chere!"

* * *

Jake's eyes shot open. Electric blue eyes locked on the ceiling.

He sensed two presences in the room and instantly sat up. Blue eyes roamed over the contents of the room before settling on two figures, huddling and pressed together, next to the wall.

The boy sighed. "What are you two younglings doing here?"

He did not look away from the blonde, tanned twins.

"Jakey...there were..." one of the twins started before their sibling hushed them.

"What?" Jake muttered confused, as Patty stared into his electric blue eyes.

"Nothing. Left you a gift. Love you! Bye!" Patty said dragging along Danny who screamed before exiting "Sorry for entering your room without permission. Blame Patty!"

The boy lifted a confused eyebrow as the door closed and the sounds of arguing were heard.

"Blame me, why don't ya! I'll show you!"

"Meanie!"

Jake sighed as the arguing got lower as the twins moved away. Kids.

He reached for the tablet on the dresser, when his fingers met straw. He glanced a rectangular basket, covered with white paper. He picked up the golden note attached and read,

'This basket is filled with sweets. I'm going straight to the point. I swear you are the weirdest crossbreed, I've ever seen. You seldom eat sweets! You're a child! A bloody child! ALL children deserve to be spoiled a little. Lady Cassandra isn't pulling punches, is she? Speaking of which, not a word of this to her- or else. Enjoy these sweets. Some are specially imported from the underworld and others- they're rare rock candy crystals grown naturally. As you can guess, hard to find. They were. -_- Enjoy for me and you! Sharing food is hard enough as it is- but, you know that. Sweet goddess, how long is this note? Do me a favour, slap me the next time you see ne for wasting ten minutes of my life due to being unable to summarise. DO NOT WASTE ANY!

Alan

P.S Your demoness sister will call on you soon. Keep an eye out. '

Jake was already eating the assortment of expensive chocolates and candies by the time he read the first threat.

Alan was right, though. His siblings did not let him eat sweets. And they would check up on him soon. He licked the caramel off his fingers in one hand and the other swiped up on the tablets notifications

3: 59 pm Sandra: Come to meet me NOW

He needed to finish these soon and go to the castle. His siblings would not take it nicely to him having candy at all.

* * *

Jake quickly strolled down the hallway, towards his sister's chambers, opening the cubical box given to him by the twins.

He pulled out a small baby blue camera. Turning it over, the boy raised it to his eye, through the lens. An idea popped into his head.

Jake tapped the blackwood door three times in rhythmic succession. Hearing no answer, he opened it.

Grunts and sounds of a struggle echoed throughout the room, hitting his ears. While several scents smacked his nose at once- his siblings' blood, sweat, anger and pure hate. Those negative emotions floated around the room in a swirling mass of dark desires. He felt his fangs lengthen, as his hunger peaked.

"Keep it together, Jake," he thought, shaking his head " I need to satiate my bloodlust soon,"

Laughter echoed in the back of his mind.

"Good luck with that," Luca said " You gorged yourself on confectionaries. No blood or meat for nutrition. Call me when you snap and Axel! Stop laughing!"

"Nope. I'll stop...if Jake...actually accomplishes...that," he blurted between laughs.

"You have to stop," Luca growled.

"Or do I?" Axel dared "Do I puppy?"

Jake was snapped out of his mind by angry voices.

"Die you f@#%er!" the female yelled.

"Get off me you crazy b*#&h!" the male responded.

The boy's eyes quickly scanned the room. Broken furniture lay scattered around the room, clothes askew all over the place and claw marks littering the walls and bookshelf in short angry slashes, exposing the concrete below.

His eyes landed on the struggling figures on the king- sized canopy bed which honestly looked like it had been washed in a tsunami of blood and then spun dry in a hurricane with its torn, damp, tousled sheets and his siblings on it.

"I'm thinking of a hurricane of a different variety," Axel whistled at the back of his mind.

"Don't you d-" Luca started.

"They broke the plumbing again, didn't they?" Axel asked.

"They probably did," Jake acknowledged as his attention focused on his siblings.

Cassandra was straddling Kyle. Her hands held a hunting knife millimeters from his brother's throat while Kyle's claws were wrapped around her own throat. Her body was littered with claw marks whereas Kyle had a few slashes and scratches on him.

Their groans and growls stopped as both their heads snapped up and turned towards him, sensing his presence. An awkward deadly silence filled the entire room- everywhere, except Jake's head.

"What the-" Luca stated "Oh forget it!"

"What else did you think I was going to say?" Axel inquired "Wait, why is it so quiet?"

"You saw nothing," Cassandra spoke lowly, raising the hunting knife a little from the Alpha's throat. In return, Kyle released her throat, both eyeing each other warily. Jake said nothing, his hand with the camera raised.

"Don't you dare," Kyle growled, seconds before a click was heard and a flash of light made him wince.

"Jake give the camera," Cassandra demanded, a threat hanging on the edge of her tone.

The young hybrid's face broke into a mischievous grin, as he flew backwards, grabbing the door knob and slamming it shut, listening to his brother's scream of "You little-!" before the door shut.

Jake tucked the camera into his pants pocket, quickly bending a corner and flying upwards as the door exploded a large black wolf barreling through the entry way.

"JAKE!" Cassandra screamed.

* * *

Axel continued to laugh as Jake closed the door of one of the spare bedrooms behind his telekinetically.

"Are you sure you ditched him?" Luca asked.

"Duh," Jake sassed aloud, lifting a filled bookcase and space saver cabinet in each hand and placing them in front the door.

"Looks like you forgot about her," Axel sang as the door flew open, smashing the furniture blockade into the wall.

Jake ducked as a blade hurtled towards his face. He glanced at his sister who glared down at him as the blade of her scythe was imbedded in the wall, centimeters above his head. Her hair was disheveled, while her arms and torso were littered with the familiar deep red gashes at claw marks.

"Give me the camera," she commanded.

"Non," Jake replied, dodging as the scythe ripped through the concrete onto him.

"Arrête! Tu es très têtu!" she screamed with a swing of the sharp of the sharp blade.

"It's part of my charm," Jake winked using a nearby table to protect himself.

"Ok, you know what screw it," Cassandra muttered dropping her scythe. " Come at me,"

"Aww, she does care," Jake cooed in his mind, making his vampire gag.

Jake clenched his fist, aiming for a quick jab to Cassandra's face which simply grabbed and then threw him. She gazed at him apathetically before her red, glowing eyes narrowed into a glare "Don't be predictable, you'll die,"

Jake, on his back, laughed as he looked up at her. She was pissed.

The boy flipped unto his feet, extending his claws as his sister rushed him. A glint of silver rushed for his chest. He dodged, ducking to the side.

The boy retaliated with a roundhouse kick to her side, delighting as he felt her ribs shake and shift. Before he could draw away, Cassandra dragged him forward to attack. Jake countered by landing two clawed blows- one to her shoulder and the other to her stomach, making her let go.

The smell of blood began to consume him.

He spun on his heel, delivering another, more forceful roundhouse kick. This one sent her flying across the room and crashing into the wall, definitely cracking his ribs this time. The young male, fingers filthy with blood chuckled darkly, summoning a rapier before flying towards his downed opponent.

Sandra coughed as metal began to impale her to a wall. She uselessly grabbed the weapon trying to yank it out as it pinned her torso to the wall.

"Jake, enough!" she demanded.

A fang filled sadistic smile was the only answer that greeted her as a sharp silver halberd descended at her throat.

A disappointed sigh left the female pureblood's lips.

She immediately called upon Le Jaguar telepathically. The weapon instantly appeared to block the attack, defending its mistress. She manipulated it like a marionette, putting distance between herself and the young hybrid as he went on the defensive.

Continuing to use telepathy, she began the painful process of removing the giant rapier embedded into her gut.

A groan of pain escaped her throat as she removed it with one quick yank. In the same instant, her scythe clattered to the ground- the momentary pain shattering her concentration.

This was all it took for the red slit red- eyed pupils to return their sadistic attention to her.

She swore, flying out of the way as the halberd and its wielder shattered the wall she had just slumped against. Cassandra swallowed slowly, steeling her emotions for one final brutal attack. Knives started to appear behind the boy.

Consumed by bloodlust, he was completely oblivious to the incoming attack- instead he ripped his weapon out of the remains of the wall.

Serious injury was the only viable option left to stop him.

One of the knives dived into the soft sinew above his wrist, causing the hybrid to drop his weapon. Before the other three could pierce his remaining limbs, a black slurry of fur tackled the hybrid child to the ground.

Four giant paws pinned his struggling limbs to the ground as the jaws of the large werewolf sank into his shoulder.

Kyle shifted back to human form, pinning the flailing, scratching child against him.

"Jake. Calm down," Kyle coaxed.

His answer was a snarl and a headbutt, which his nose took the brunt of. The older male swore, wincing in pain.

Retaining his grip, he looked at the bleeding female. "Are you going to help or are you going stay there and be pitiful?"

Cassandra scowled and made her way over to them, arms wrapped around her gaping gut wound. "Maybe I wouldn't be so pitiful if someone hadn't poisoned me,"

That prude has caused her reactions to slow considerably and endangered her.

"And maybe you wouldn't be poisoned if you weren't such a cheap, awful fighter,"

Biting back a sarcastic reply, she laced her fingers into the younger males dark hair, dodging a bite in the process. He was violent ad erratic.

A now fully fanged Cassandra yanked his head to the side, exposing the unbitten side of his neck. She winced as she endured a knee to the stomach, her fangs sinking into his neck.

Venom entered into his veins, each part of his body going slack. Sandra increased her venom concentration slowly counting to five, as she felt his struggles becoming less manic.

Finally, she pulled away to look at her teary brown eyed brother.

"Why are you bleeding that much? Where did those new injuries come from? I cam smell it," he whispered.

"It's nothing, little monkey," she smiled, removing her blood soaked hands from his hair. She avoided answering the question he already suspected the answer too. He would go into hysteria.

Kyle released him, letting the child sit on his arm as his head buried itself in his brother's shoulder for comfort, sniffles escaping him.

"Jake, go eat," Cassandra suggested, pulling up the remnants of a chair to sit on as she summoned a needle.

"But you're hurt!" he protested.

"Do as she says," Kyle spoke up.

A teary eyed glare from the younger male made it clear this was going to turn into an argument.

"Do not make me command you," he glared back, his blue eyes turning black.

"Its best if you...leave," Cassandra gasped as she paused her wound stitching "Pretty sure the scent of blood will send you into another blood rage and I really don't want to have to call Joshua in to help,"

She offered a smile of reassurance as her younger sibling's eyes narrowed a her. "I'll be fine,"

"Do as they say,"

Luca's voice emerging from the fog within his head made him, reluctantly release Kyle and fly out of the tattered remains of the door to feast.

A/N So I lost 3 out of the six chapters I had typed out. Just realized it has been 3 years. College and personal issues have been plaguing me and I have little access to a PC. I will try to finish update the rest of the chapters every fortnight. Thanks to everyone who has been patient with me and loyal reader. A pleasant greeting from a delinquent author.

Sincerely,

KP
