CHAPTER 1- Hybrid
Darkness.
That was all Jake could see and it was sucking him down continually.
He tried to move but couldn't. All he could do was let it suck him down.
Finally, it stopped.
Jake laid against a flat, soft surface. Again, he tried to move, but couldn't.
Laughter rang out as the place brightened. The entire atmosphere glowed purple.
He sighed. '' What do you want?"
The purple atmosphere turned red as a boy leaned over him smiling. ''Boo," he laughed exposing his fangs , his red eyes glistening. ''Comfortable? "
''Yeah, other than the fact that I can't move," Jake sighed, now noticing that he was on a bed. Sarcasm dripped from every word.
"Don't be mean," the other boy pouted, his fangs poking out of the corners of his mouth
"You're no fun."
Jake knew this boy and his attitude almost as well as he knew himself- well part of him anyways.
Other than the fangs and red eyes, he was identical to Jake- same height of five feet four inches, same dirt-brown hair, same build but different personalities.
You see, Jake was a hybrid. Half- vampire and half-werewolf.
His werewolf half had appeared...
There was the sound of bones cracking, then another replica of him stood cross armed next to the bed. It had transformed from wolf to human. He opened his eyes. A deep ocean of shining blue you could get lost in.
They were different from Jake's dull brown eyes.
'' Stop beating around the bush," the wolf growled menacingly.
'' Fine, fine, pup," Axel said shooing him away with his hands.
''Why am I here? Why can't I move?" Jake said glaring at them, not looking at their eyes though. That might end badly.
"You're here to talk," the werewolf said sitting on the edge of the bed.
Jake felt the bed dip at his weight. ''About what?"
"You, us, rather," Axel sighed.
"What else is new?" Jake said sarcastically. Ever since he could remember, monsters were either trying to kill him or abduct him for their own secret intentions.
"No, I'm talking about serious adversaries," he said seriously.
"Who are they?" Jake asked bored.
"Don't think of all the filth we've fought for the past 14 years," the wolf said angrily.
"But-" He and the vamp looked at each other.
"We don't know," they said in unison.
"What do they want? "
"We don't know."
"Do you two know any thing of use?"
"Isn't the fact that we warned you enough?" Axel said grinning.
"No. How do you even know this?"
"I can feel it," Axel said.
"I sense danger brewing," the other said.
"OK?" Jake responded.
"Why did that sound like a question? What do you doubt us?" the wolf growled lowly, power and dominance emanating from him.
Jake flinched and tried to move away. ''No, I- ugh- WHY AM I TIED UP!"
Axel chuckled. "So you would listen no matter what, and not try to fight us,"
"But-" he said climbing above Jake." I am hungry, how about we go on a killing spree,"
Jake shook his head. " No way! I don't want to!"
"Too bad, you don't have a choice," Axel smiled wickedly his eyes glistening.
" No!"
* * *
" No! No! No! No! No! No! No!" Jake screamed tumbling to the floor, entangled in baby blue bed sheets.
He groaned. That was why he couldn't move.
He could hear a light chuckling in the back of his mind.
"Shut up, Axel!" Jake thought to himself moaning. He had hit his head against the floor- a bump had formed but was instantly healing. It was now gone. Unrolling himself, he got up and walked across the wooden polished floor over to the wall.
Pushing a part of it, the wall slid inwards and sideways, exposing a flight of stairs. Jake didn't feel like walking and started levitating down the secret staircase. Halfway down the stairs his body dropped down. Losing balance, he tumbled down the rest of the stairs- headfirst.
His body slammed into the closed exit at the end of the stairs."Ow,"
He touched a certain part of it and it slid sideways, letting him fall face first on the floor.
" Again, ow," he mumbled.
" Axel, why can't I fly?" he thought.
No response.
Sighing, he walked over to the fridge and pulled out two blood bags- draining them quickly. Then tossing them into the bio hazard bin underneath the sink. His stomach still rumbled.
So this is what Axel meant- his body needed more.
" Axel?"
" He says he's not responding because you told him to shut up, " his wolf informed him.
" 'Kay. So the silent treatment then?" Jake thought looking around his kitchen/living room basement. Nothing seemed out of place.
A few dark coloured couches littering the living room section. A dark mahogany table with a porcelain dish on it sitting in the middle of the room, while the kitchen was small with the usual sink, counter tops, cup boards with a few plates and other dishes in it. The wood of course being dark brown as well. Simple surroundings, for a simple guy.
His stomach grumbled." Fine! I'll go hunting!" he said throwing his hands up in defeat.
" Yay!" Axel said popping back up " I knew you couldn't resist. Can we kill at least ten humans? "
" No. One human and no killing," Jake responded.
" Joy killer."
"Whatevs. Why can't I fly?" he said climbing the stairs.
"You can't use your powers if you're hungry, moron," Axel sighed.
Jake stepped back into the bedroom. Putting on a beanie, T-shirt, gray hoodie and jeans with a pair of black Converse he opened the blinds of the only window in the room. It faced away from the sun, towards the south, neither East nor West. The sun followed that path and goodness forbid the week he didn't eat and got caught in its path. He would get seriously burned, despite his rapid healing.
He jumped out, landing lightly on his feet on the next flat rooftop. The buildings were crammed against each other next to an alleyway. The other building, was lower than his, making for the perfect landing target.
As much as he hated it, he had to feed. He'd take a little blood from a human and wipe their memories when they were unconscious.
Jake couldn't bring himself to drain them of all their blood. His grandmother was human after all.
Moving at inhuman speed, he flashed across rooftops. The setting sun shining down on him.
He found a prize.
* * *
It was night. The rays of light had been swallowed up by darkness, long ago.
Jake stepped over the unconscious Caucasian woman, wiping the blood of his mouth with the back of his hand. He knew his eyes were red. At least, he was satisfied. His fangs retracted.
" Are you sure you don't want more?" Axel jibes.
"Yes. What are you suggesting?"
"Drain her dry," the voice said coldly.
"No....." He paused "that would be greed. Leave me be," He would have demanded, but it wouldn't be if much use. Axel rarely listened to him and would probably jut laugh at him.
" Fine."
Jake flew upwards and moved further up the dilapidated building, while different grimy, cracked and broken panes struggled to show a clear refection instead of a distorted one, as he moved up. He stopped and sat on the edge of the building's roof top.
He could feel something watching him from the shadows. The eyes bored into him, as if trying to injure him with a stare.
Jake shivered. It was creepy. This would not end pretty.
