At WWE Night of Champions, Don Patricio, under the banner of the Hurt Business, will make an attempt to fulfill the new reorganization plan by winning the United States Championship, currently held by Apollo Crews. This is not their first encounter in a one on one setting but it will be with the United States title on the line. After Apollo won the belt off Bobby Lashley, he now has to deal with another Hurt Business member to prolong his title reign.

On the other end, the implosion of the Riott Squad is still felt until this point as Liv Morgan will go head to head with her erstwhile tag team partner, Ruby Riott. This came after Liv acted on her own to live up to the Riott name at the expense and without approval of the Leader of the Riott Squad, Ruby. After Ruby finally kicked out Liv, the Problem Child is on her path once again on her own but will need a victory against her former tag partner.

Backstage
Don is walking backstage on the way to a Hurt Business Pow Wow meeting in gear. He passes by Liv, sitting on crates but he merely avoids her.

Liv: Oh Donny~

Don stops for a bit.

Liv: Hey, why avoid me? You don't think or agree with Monty or Bobby? *pouts*

Don: First of all, don't disrespect mentor that way. Second, I have my orders tonight.

Liv: But... you can do it. We beat both Ruby and Apollo down.

Don: That was different.

Liv: Despite that, I wish you luck. *smirks* Champion Donny~

Don: *sadly nods* I hope so too. Beat down Ruby by the way.

Liv smiled and smirks as she walks the other way.

Don is nearing the rest of the Hurt Business as Cedric will not look at Don's direction with Shelton calming him down. MVP and Lashley knew Don's delay was caused by a certain Problem Child.

Lashley: I told you that black cat was trouble.

Don: We won now didn't we?

Cedric: Sure if it's anyone but me but you dropped the ball when I was by your side....

Don: It was an accident!

Cedric: YOU'RE AN ACCIDENT!

Shelton backs Cedric as MVP thumps his cane loud.

MVP: THAT IS ENOUGH!

Lashley faces Don and pokes him roughly on the chest.

Lashley: You had better be sure you're walking out tonight as United States Champion. I got bigger fish to fry. *at Cedric and Shelton* You two had better pull your goddamned weight.

MVP: And *at Don* stay away from that black cat! She's no good and how many times have we said that already?

Don: Listen, she can help...

Lashley: She won't win against Ruby. Too emotional. Too rough around the edges

MVP: Unwilling to listen.

Don: Oh hell no!

Lashley angrily shoves Don to the floor.

Lashley: I will let this slide for tonight but the moment you act like a smart aleck and speak out of line, I won't HESITATE to cut you from the Hurt Business.

MVP nods and points his cane near Don's neck

MVP: How about you keep your ideas to yourself and make our vision a reality. Just this once, DO YOUR DAMN JOB!

Cedric tried to walk away but kicked Don on the face.

Cedric: You deserve more!

Shelton backs Cedric away as Don is left to get up on his own.

WWE Night of Champions
Liv Morgan vs. Ruby Riott

Mike Rome: The following contest is set for one fall. First, from Lafayette, Indiana, Ruby Riott!

Joe: Good for Ruby to break away because Liv is a mere anchor.

The crowd in attendance roars loud for New Jersey's own Superstar.

Mike Rome: And her opponent, from Elmwood Park, New Jersey, Liv Morgan!

Liv marches out to the cheers of the crowd

Saxton: Guys, we are 30 minutes away from Elmwood Park, New Jersey but Liv is being hailed back as a heroine!

Joe: Yeah, to be New Jersey's absolute disappointment when they see her lose as usual!

Saxton: Now that's not very nice.

Match Start
As the bell rings, Ruby tries to go for the clothesline but Liv evades with the Matrix Evasion then transitions into a Mat Slam before taunting Ruby.

Ruby took insult and began to ground and pound against Liv until the Problem Child kicks off her friend. Liv screams as she begins to hit a Thesz Press and punch away at Ruby until the former leader of the Riott Squad rolls out of the ring. Liv angrily screams at Ruby with the referee backing her away from leaving the ring.

Timeskip to end of the match
Liv hits a Running Hurricanrana on Ruby as Ruby positions herself by the corner. The Problem Child runs towards the now bent Ruby but the leader of the Riott Squad was able to roll away from range. Liv ends up stomping empty mat.

This gave Ruby the opening to hit the Deadly Night Shade. As Liv groggily gets up, Ruby attempts for the Riott Kick, but Liv wrenches Ruby's arm the other way to go for the 201 Facebreaker.

Ruby lifts Liv into a powerbomb like hold, but Ruby predicted Liv reversing it into another Hurricanrana and smashes Liv towards the turnbuckles before finishing it with a powerbomb. Liv screams in pain as Ruby lifts her up by the arm before hitting the Riott Kick.

Ruby covers Liv.

ONE...TWO...

Ruby lifts her legs to the ropes for leverage.

...THREE!

Ruby wins albeit by a dirty pin as she smirks at Liv and has her arm raised. 

Ruby: Well deserved loss! You're a damned anchor!

Liv did not take the loss lying down as she begins to go after Ruby until the leader of the Riott Squad rolls out for safety with Liv screaming and going after her ally turned foe.

United States Championship Match
Don Patricio vs. Apollo Crews

Mike Rome: The following contest is for the United States Championship...

Mike Rome: The challenger, from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, weighing in at 230 pounds, representing the Hurt Business, Don Patricio!

Don comes out all business as he angrily marches to the ring to the hail of boos from the New Jersey crowd.

Joe: Man on a mission for redemption

Saxton: More of win by any means necessary....

Mike Rome: And his opponent, from Stone Mountain, Georgia, weighing in at 242 pounds, the United States Champion, Apollo Crews!

Saxton: Apollo is getting himself noticed as the possible Hurt Business breaker

Joe: That's a bold claim but just because he beat Lashley unfairly by the way, I see Don winning by any means necessary.

Saxton: Sure.....

Match Start
Don starts things off with a clothesline but ends up with a Hip Toss. Don strikes the ground as Apollo strikes a pose as the crowd chants at every successful counter.

Crowd: Lashley's gonna kill you!

Don shakes his head as he humors Apollo by stretching his arm out for a lock up. Apollo locks up and obliges as both men try to outmaneuver the other. Unfortunately, Don hits Apollo on the gut then begins to go for Cravate Knee Strikes. 

As Don goes to the top rope to wait for Apollo to get up for a Diving Clothesline. Apollo dodges and grabs Don by the waist for a Stun Gun before hitting a Rib Breaker, only garnering a two count as the challenger rolls out of the ring for safety.

Don takes a breather as the crowd taunts him with chants as he misses out to see the champion hit a Baseball Slide on him. Don takes the hit and is near the barricade. The US Champion sees him in range for a Diving Plancha and launches himself from the top rope. The challenger however saw through it and rolled away from range and caught him with a right hand before ramming Apollo back first into the barricade twice. Don finishes up with a Fireman's Carry Press Slam on the outside. 

As the crowd shouts, Lashley's gonna kill you at Don, Don shouts back.

Don: *sarcastic* Pray for Apollo! He's gonna get badly hurt!

Don kicks Apollo down more with a boot to the head before he tosses Apollo back into the ring before they both lose the match by count out.

Timeskip to end of the match
Both men are in the ring after a back and forth with the champion able to withstand the offensive of the challenger. Apollo goes for the Clothesline, but Don dodges and counters into a Drop Toe Hold Facecrusher. Don goes for the Release German Suplex. 

Don makes an attempted Fisherman Suplex but countered into a delayed Vertical Suplex of his own. Apollo regains some momentum as he hits a Standing Moonsault, but is met with double knees raised by Don Patricio.  

As Apollo leans close to the ropes, he goes for the Player's Boot as it makes contact to the champion's head before pinning the champion.

ONE...TWO...

Apollo kicks out, to the surprise of Don. Don rolls out of the ring and gets the United States Championship. The referee sees the challenger as he grabs the title from him. 

While the referee goes near the timekeeper area, Don arms himself with brass knuckles as he once again prepares to deck Apollo just like on Raw a few nights ago. Apollo scouts this and ducks before hitting a Thrust Spinebuster, causing Don to lose grip of the knuckles. Apollo gets ready but as he picks up the challenger, Don rakes him in the eyes. 

In a last ditch effort, Don makes an attempt for the Mercy Shot but Apollo reads the move and goes for the Spin Out Powerbomb and covers Don for the three count.

As Apollo retains the title, Don rolls out of the ring and kicks the ring steps angrily. Despite the effort, Don did not walk out of Night of Champions as the United States Champion.

Backstage

Despite the loss, he saw MVP and he knew his fate. MVP calmly but with sternness told Don.

MVP: You did what you can but thanks to Cedric and Shelton regaining the Tag Titles, Lashley has softened his stance on you being booted out of the group.

Don: You saw me. I nearly had him beat....

MVP: Nearly. But the belt is not on you.

Lashley then approaches from behind and puts on the Hurt Lock on Don. Don struggles but Cedric strikes Don with the Raw Tag Team title as Lashley lets go.

Lashley: Cedric, what the hell was that for? I was doing the punishment on hin!

Cedric: That piece of shit got what he deserves. And more to come since at least Shelton didn't stab my back and we know our place, unlike HIM!

MVP stepped between the downed Don and furious Cedric and Lashley.

MVP: You're lucky you got the titles back otherwise you are getting the same fate!

Cedric: You're lucky Don has your endorsement. Otherwise, I can do worse.

Lashley: *menacingly stares down Cedric* I HANDLE THE PUNISHMENTS HERE. UNDERSTOOD?

Cedric walks away as Lashley turns to MVP.

Lashley: Time has come for me to accomplish what Shelton failed to do.

MVP understood and walked away along with Cedric and Lashley. Don was left down and out but Liv snuck by and watched over him.
