Safety in Numbers?

Re-edited as of 10/04/23

A good twenty minutes later Glenn could finally breathe, his hands still gave the occasional tremor but his heart had finally stopped racing at a hundred and ten miles a second. The adrenalin left him slowly until it gave way to the unstoppable shaking, he gripped the steering wheel tighter with his left hand until he finally decided to pull over unable to drive any further with a shaking steering wheel. He pulled to a stop at a small hill, in some uppty area that overlooked a small part of the city, but left his car running in case he needed to make another quick getaway. Glenn pulled his right hand away from his sniffling daughter.

Mia had stopped crying roughly five minutes ago, it was safe to say that his little girl had a good set of lungs on her. He wasn't sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing at the moment.

Glenn ran a hand through his hair, he bent over, forehead resting on the top of the steering wheel, and took in a shaky breath and then another and another, and another, and then the tears came. The reality of it all hit him all at once, was this really happening? Were there really zombies running around like some low-budget movie he and Liz would make fun of?

Jesus Christ.

This wasn't supposed to happen, none of it.

Things were supposed to be okay. Perhaps it was all just a dream and he'll wake up in bed next to Liz and tell her all about his freakish nightmare and they'll laugh together about it and his little girl will still be inside her momma, all safe and protected. Then she'll kiss him, crawl on top of him as best she could with her pregnant belly, and help reassure him that she's here and it was all a dream. They'd make love until he completely forgets about his dream.

It's fine. Everything's fine. Just a terrible dream. Just a dream.

He repeated the mantra in his head over and over. He could feel ghost lips against his neck and let out a sigh of relief until a soft cry made him open his eyes and it all came rushing back. This wasn't a dream. This, was really, truly, happening.

Another louder cry made Glenn look to his right, his baby girl was starting to work herself up, the events of the day no doubt had scared her, not to mention she was probably still tired and now hungry. Glenn sat back, wiped a hand over his face, and then with a quick look around outside reached over and unbuckled Mia from her car seat and gently lifted her out, and pulled her close to his chest. Hand patting her back gently while softly bouncing her up and down.

"Shhh, there there baby girl," He removed her hat and kissed the top of her sweaty head "Daddy's got you." Glenn pressed his lips against her head and held her closer. Mia's little hands gripped his shirt and her piercing cries dwindled down to sniffles and hiccups.

A little daddy-daughter time can cure everything. He thought, taking in a deep breath through his nose, breathing in the soft smell of baby shampoo.

Being sure to hold her close Glenn, reached into the back and felt around for the baby bag. A frown crossed his face when he didn't feel it, a glance behind showed him it had fallen onto the floor behind the passenger seat. A small huff from him had Mia whining and trying to look up at her father as a similar frown crossed her face as if to scold him for moving around.

Glenn smirked, kissed her head and after making sure she was secure to his chest made an awkward show of leaning sideways over the middle console, arm stretched out behind the passenger seat and just about managed to grab the bag. Stretching so awkwardly over the console made the muscles on his side contract, sitting up quickly he let out a breath of air as they started to loosen.

He did not want a damn stitch in his side.

Setting the bag on the console beside him, he grabbed the bottle he'd put in the pocket on the side of the bag, and gave it a shake noting that it was on the cooler side than warmer. He'd read in one of those parent magazines they always had strewn around the doctor's offices some weeks ago that warm milk was better for a newborn and it was supposed to always be made fresh.

It wasn't like he had a damn choice at the moment. He wondered for a brief moment if all those damn doctors had any answers on how to feed a baby warm milk in the middle of what looked to be a low-budget zombie apocalypse movie.

"Now Mr. Rhee," Glenn said out loud in a mocking high-pitched tone of that annoying female doctor they always seemed to see. As he moved Mia into a more comfortable laying position, her head in the crook of his arm, his fingers curled under her bottom ensuring she was pressed securely against him. "Be sure to always give your daughter fresh lukewarm milk. Anything less can cause bacteria to form in the bottle and might cause your baby to become sick."

Glenn scoffed "As if." He muttered in his normal voice as he looked down at his daughter, Mia stared up at her father and blinked, "Your grandma always gave me cold milk, said I wouldn't drink it any other way."

Popping off the plastic lid Glenn guided the bottle's nipple to her mouth. After a few seconds, Mia began to drink eagerly "Hungry, huh sweetheart?" He watched her little fists curl around the bottle as best they could as she took in big gulps of milk and chuckled "Guess you like your milk cold too."

It didn't take her long to finish, perhaps ten minutes or so. Putting the empty bottle between his legs, Glenn unzipped the baby bag and grabbed the small towel he'd packed. Throwing it over his shoulder, not wanting a repeat of the spit-up he'd gotten on his shirt last time. He maneuvered his daughter so her head laid on his shoulder, one hand holding her upright and the other making gentle but firm patting motions on her back, and after about a minute his patting paid off as a few burps and a little fart came from his daughter.

He gave a small grin and after a few more pats he was sure she was done. Glenn removed her from his shoulder and noticed she'd fallen asleep, he gave her face a quick wipe and then moved her back into her car seat. After buckling her up and securing the car seat via the seat belt which had taken him a good five minutes to figure out, he replaced the empty bottle and towel back into the bag. He knew that having a baby in the front seat was unsafe but he wanted quick and easy access, especially if he had to make a run for it.

Sitting back with a sigh, he removed his Joey's Pizza cap and ran a hand through his hair, and replaced the cap. Glenn rested his head on the headrest and let out another deep sigh. What the hell was he supposed to do? Here he was in his shitty car on the side of the road with a bag of food, clothes, and a two-week-old baby to boot, not to mention the crazy zombies running around.

Reaching over he fiddled with the radio, surfing through the channels all he got was static until finally, a station came through. Three loud distinctive beeps sounded which were then followed by one longer beep:

"THIS IS NOT A TEST. I REPEAT THIS IS NOT A TEST. THIS IS YOUR EMERGENCY ALERT SYSTEM. DUE TO RECENT OUTBREAKS, THE FOLLOWING CITIES HAVE SAFE HAVENS. SEATTLE, WASHINGTON. LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA. DALLAS, TEXAS. SIOUX FALLS, SOUTH DAKOTA. ATLANTA, GEORGIA. WASHINGTON, DC. IF YOU CANNOT REACH A SAFE HAVEN, PLEASE STAY INDOORS. THIS MESSAGE IS ON REPEAT. THIS IS NOT A TEST. I REPEAT THIS IS NO-"

Glenn quickly flipped off the radio, his breathing just a little quicker. Safe havens? What kind of bullshit was that. Atlanta was in no way a haven, the amount of freaks on the road was enough to make anyone reconsider going that way. Besides, there were over five-hundred-thousand people in Atlanta and if half of them survived then they were mostly like on their way to said safe haven. And then what? If there was one thing Glenn knew about people is that they were all concerned with their own lives, all it'd take is one sad bastard to lie and then they'd all be fucked.

No, no way in hell was he going there.

He groaned and hit his head against the steering wheel. Where else could he go? He had enough food to last him a few weeks if he was careful. Maybe he could make his way up to his parents in Paw Paw, Michigan. The only problem was that it was nearly twelve hours away, but the bonus was that they lived on a few acres of land with a couple of animals here and there.

Taking a peek at his gas gauge he was glad to see it still full, he'd refilled it this morning on his way to work. But it wouldn't be enough for a twelve-hour drive.

Speaking of work...Glenn turned around to look at his back seat, there sitting on the seat behind the passenger was a pizza box, a side of bbq wings, and a two-liter bottle of Mountain Dew he'd been on his way to deliver. In his head Glenn thanked whatever poor bastard ordered as he reached for the pizza, it was one-fifty-seven-pm and the last thing he'd eaten was a slice of toast at seven this morning. He'd been in a rush to make it to work and while Joe, his boss, had been very understanding of his situation there were only so many times he could be late and he honestly needed his job. Not that it matters much now.

Opening up the large box, Glenn took a cold slice of the double pepperoni pizza. Munching on the pizza Glenn looked over to his baby thinking. She was still sleeping soundly, which was good. But this was not how he imagined things to play out. Regardless, his only goal now was to keep her safe, keep her alive.

Taking out another slice, Glenn closed up the pizza box and tossed it to the backseat. Grabbing the bottle of Mountain Dew he unscrewed the cap before a loud whirring caught his attention. Leaning forward he tried to find the source of the noise out his windshield. Seeing nothing, Glenn quickly screwed the cap back on and tossed it on the floor of the passenger's side. Taking a quick glance outside and seeing nothing but empty road, Glenn opened his door and stood with one leg out and one leg inside. Looking up to the sky there were three, maybe four helicopters, they were flying towards the city in a V shape before they broke off to the left and right respectively. Before three jets shot passed them.

Moving his other leg out so he was standing properly Glenn watched as the three jets flew towards the city. He watched in confusion which then quickly turned to horror as each jet released what could only be bombs before they turned away from the city.

"Holy fucking shi-" was the only thing Glenn could manage.

A loud BOOOOOM! Forced him to duck before it shook the earth, making his car rattle and his daughter wake up screaming in absolute terror.

After a few moments, Glenn managed to stand up. His left hand on his roof and his right on his door, he looked again towards the city, he could see parts of it on fire and a large cloud of smoke in the air. Glenn managed to pull his eyes away from the burning city to his daughter who was crying.

Getting back into the car Glenn slammed the door shut and reached over to his baby. He patted her chest gently and tried to calm her down.

"There there baby, calm down. It's okay. Did the loud noise scare you, hm?" He cooed while grabbing the Ariel pacifier that was hooked onto the side of the car seat. It took a few attempts to get her to latch on but finally, she calmed down enough to keep it in her mouth. As she sucked, she let out a few little sniffles and whines.

Glenn ran his fingers through her set of full hair before leaning over and kissing her on the head. He then reached for her little hat and put it back on her head.

With a sigh he leaned back into his seat, a glance at the clock showed it was now two-twenty-two-pm. If he was going anywhere he needed to hurry the hell up. Because, while driving in the dark is semi-okay in normal times, driving in the dark with a freakin' zombie apocalypse was not at the top of his to-do list today.

"Okay, Rhee, you got this. Put the car into gear and get your ass on the road before some undead freak pops out of the bushes." Glenn had seen enough movies to know that the person who lags behind and dallies is usually the first to die.

Putting his car into gear, and turning his blinker on, Glenn set off for one of the major freeways.

xXx

It was roughly thirty minutes later that Glenn turned onto the freeway that would take him out of the city towards Michigan. Of course, he should've known that everyone and their mother would take the same route out of the city. The highway was backed up for what he was sure miles. And it didn't help that it looked like every car was abandoned. Mostly like from when people saw the bombs falling. The hard shoulder was thankfully empty.

Glenn pulled onto the hard shoulder and took to speeding past hundreds of empty cars. He knew that it was nothing but pure luck that gave him an empty lane, he was sure others had done the same. It was a weird thing to do, drive on the hard shoulder with tons of empty cars on his left. What was weirder was that the lanes on the other side of the highway were empty. It was so abnormal and felt so wrong.

It was roughly about half an hour later that there was a problem, his lane had merged into the other lanes. And taking an exit to the other side wasn't an option for all the exits were blocked off with cars. It was only by luck he had managed to squeeze his way past them in order to continue in his lane.

With no other option but to turn around, Glenn set out with his task of how-ever-many-points-it-takes turn. Because there was no way he could make it a three-point turn. He had no choice but to back up until the lane widened a bit and then make a five-point turn.

After a lot of cursing, Glenn was finally backtracking on himself. He chewed on the corner of his bottom lip while thinking about where to go next. This whole thing had taken a good chunk of his time, hell, just trying to get his car turned around took him twenty to thirty minutes. It was now three-seventeen-pm. It was starting to get late and in a few short hours it would be dark.

The only thing he could do at this point was to hunker down somewhere relatively safe for the night. But the question was, where?

He'd be bunking in his car for however long it took for him to get to Michigan, so that wasn't a problem. The problem was, was it safe enough to do something like that? Where could he go that was private and somewhere people rarely go, especially in times like this?

He tapped his fingers on the wheel thinking, casting a glance at his daughter. Looking at her reminded him of Liz, and thinking of Liz brought up memories of their time together. Specifically their time up at the Quarry. It was perfect the more he thought about it. It was a large clearing with one entry/exit and it was surrounded by nothing but trees and a small lake at the bottom.

With a new destination in mind, Glenn exited the freeway and made his way toward the Quarry, which was unfortunately on the other side of the city. He kept to the outer edge of the city, which with all the dodging around freaks, took him roughly an hour to get to the other side, but he finally managed to get to the highway that took him to the Quarry and thank god it was empty.

With only a couple hours or so left of daylight Glenn put his foot down on the gas. He wanted to be able to check it out before it got dark.

It was probably only 20 minutes into his drive that Glenn saw it. A large white RV was parked in the middle of the road with a station wagon parked behind it. Glenn slowed down but didn't stop. It was a two-lane road but that freakin' RV was in the middle of it. Not only that but there were people surrounding it.

Great he thought just what I need.

As he got closer he saw the people turn towards his car, there were probably around seven to eight of them. Some of them men, some of them women, there was even a kid from what he could see.

Maybe he could swerve around them and carry on, but as he got closer he noticed them waving their hands. They were clearly trying to wave him down, and they did have a kid and he looked pretty young. He was standing next to an older woman, probably his mother. They looked harmless but looks could be deceiving. These were desperate times and people could do crazy things. Who knows, maybe that old guy who was waving his hat in the air was an old-school kickboxer back in the day.

Shaking his head at the ridiculous thoughts, Glenn bit the side of his lip again in thought of whether or not to stop. Ultimately it was the kid that made him stop. If that had been him with his daughter, he'd wish the guy would stop too.

Glenn stopped the car roughly twenty feet or so from them, he kept it running as he opened his door and stepped out. He was thankful that the others had stayed where they were.

A guy roughly in his mid to late thirties dressed in a cop outfit took a step forward and paused.

"Thanks for stopping." He said as he gestured to the RV before he spoke again "The RV ran out of fuel and we were wondering if you knew of a gas station around here."

Glenn eyed the guy, like seriously? A zombie apocalypse going on and this dude was waving people down like it's a typical Wednesday night for a gas station. He supposed on the flip side it did kind of make sense. Where else were you supposed to get gas? Glenn was sure he'd have to make a trip like that soon himself.

"Uh, I think there's one a few miles ahead, take the first left and follow it until you get to an intersection then take the right and it's there on the left."

He'd been there enough to remember it well.

The guy nodded as the old man next to him spoke up with a smile "Thanks son, I suppose I should've kept a better eye on the fuel. Old man like me should know better." The old guy gave a slight laugh. The others behind them stayed quiet, just watching as the three were conversing.

"You should, uh, probably hurry up and get off the roads before dark. Never know what could be lurking out there at night." Glenn gave the trees around them a look, like they were conspiring against them.

The old guy hummed in agreement before the cop spoke up "You wouldn't happen to know of any place around here would you?"

Glenn chewed on his lip, should he tell them? Should he take a chance and let them know he did indeed know of a place? They didn't seem so bad, and if the guy's uniform was anything to go by, he was a cop. Which meant he was less likely to pull a gun on him and steal all his stuff...right?

His eyes roamed over the group, there was another guy in the back, a large African American, three older women, and a girl who looked around his age. Three of them were Caucasian and the fourth was also African American and a little kid standing next to his mom, he looked about ten or so.

He honestly didn't want to be the cause of some kid's death. So he nodded, "Yeah, I know of a place. It's about twenty minutes from here. It's actually where I was heading." He was gonna take a leap of faith here. Because he wasn't an idiot, Glenn knew there was safety in numbers and maybe just maybe, they'd watch his back if he helped them out.

"Really? That's great, If you don't mind, could we tag along with you? It's probably safer to stick with a group than be off on your own." The cop said.

The old guy gave the cop a scolding look "Now Shane, don't push the young man." He then turned to Glenn "You're not obligated to help us son, the fact that you stopped means a lot. Especially after what's happened today."

"Look," Glenn blurted nervously "as long as you don't try to kill me in my sleep and steal all my stuff. I don't mind showing you where to go. It's plenty big enough for us all."

The guy at the back of the group let out a snort before coughing and quickly turning away.

The cop, Shane, looked at him amused "I, uh, think we could arrange that."

The old guy gave him a grin "We promise, son, not to kill you in your sleep and take all your stuff. But the same goes for you too. This old man still has a few years left in him that he'd like to enjoy."

Glenn gave a short nod, feeling slightly ridiculous. Before tipping his head towards their other car "That thing got gas in it?"

Shane nodded "Yeah, about half a tank."

"Okay good, why don't you guys follow me down to the gas station, and we'll fill up a container and bring it back."

Shane gave another nod "Good idea." He said before turning to the older man next to him "Dale, why don't you come with me and the rest of you," he started as he turned to the rest of his group "You guys stay here and keep an eye out. T-dog, I'm leaving you in charge. We shouldn't be long." He told the African American.

T-Dog gave him a nod as Shane turned around, he pulled a set of keys out of his pocket and walked towards their station wagon, Dale following just a step behind him.

Glenn eyed them all before getting back into his car. With another look towards his baby, who was thankfully still sleeping away, he pulled the car around the RV, the other car following close behind him.

Was he being stupid? He hoped not. But what could he do, he was a single father with a two-week-old baby. If those things attacked him, it was better to have backup...right?

Glenn glanced back in his rearview mirror and chewed on the corner of his lip as he took a left turn. Another look behind him showed them doing the same.

Taking one hand off the wheel he laid it on his daughter, feeling her breathing brought a sense of calm to him. This, right here, is why he was taking a chance. The last piece of Lizzy he had, and he knew that no matter what, he had to keep going, had to keep her safe. Glenn swallowed the lump in his throat as he came to the intersection, removing his hand he turned the wheel to the right, and about half a mile down on the left was the gas station. It was a small one surrounded by trees and nothing else around it for about half a mile or so.

Turning in Glenn pulled up to one of the four pumps and switched off his car. Thankfully it was a self-service gas station and he was already here so he might as well fill up while he was at it. Leaning over Glenn tucked the little blanket around Mia and kissed her head before grabbing his keys and opening his door. He pulled on the lever that opened the gas cap before he got out and shut his door then walked around his car and grabbed the gas hose. He locked his car as the other men got out of theirs. They had pulled up behind him, and as Shane had started to pump gas into their car, Dale made his way over to him.

"We truly can't thank you enough." He said once he stopped beside him.

Glenn nodded as he hit the metal lever on the side of the pump before opening his cap and pushing the hose in.

"I don't think we ever got your name, I'm Dale and that young man over there is Shane," Dale told him holding out his hand.

"Glenn." He said grabbing the old man's hand and giving it a shake.

Dale smiled "It's nice to meet you, Glenn. I'm going to head on in and look for a gas can."

"Uh, yeah, okay." Glenn stumbled over his words a little. The older man gave him a smile and a gentle pat on the arm before turning away. He was probably ten feet away when Glenn called out "Just be careful! Who knows what's inside."

Dale turned to him and gave him a thumbs-up just as Shane walked over.

The guy immediately held out a hand "Shane." He said simply.

Glenn blinked in surprise as he gave it a shake "Um, Glenn."

Shane nodded before looking him straight in the eye "Look man, I know that stopping was a big deal and the fact that you've agreed to help us out means a lot. It's been a crazy day and people have done some crazy shit. But that doesn't mean everyone is bad. So, thanks. And if you want, you're welcome to join us. There's safety in numbers. I don't know how long this is going to last but it's better to stick together if we want to survive. Think it over, okay?"

Glenn gave the older man a surprised look, "You want me to join your group?"

The guy nodded "Yeah. None of us are from the Atlantic area besides Jacqui and she's only been in the area for about six months." Shane chuckled " She says that if we want to know about the underground sewage system and tunnels, she can tell us everything. But up top? Not so much. And I'm just taking a guess here that you're native to the area."

"Oh, uh, yeah. I guess? I've lived here for four years or so and I worked deliveries so I guess I know my way around."

"Perfect! Since you know your way around the group will need things to survive. It could be a trade-off. You help us and in return, you've got a safe place to sleep at night knowing someone is watching your back."

It was a tempting idea, Glenn had to admit to that.

"So, be that guy who gets the supplies for the group..?" He asked unsure.

Shane gave another nod "Yeah, but it won't be all you. We could do a rota. You tell us the best places to hit and whatnot. It beats trying to tough it out alone, you know?"

Glenn hummed and chewed his lip in thought "Umm."

Shane hurried to reassure him "Look, just think it over. It's a big decision and I get it. You gotta be careful who you trust and all that. We've got some time."

Glenn gave the guy a nod and agreed to think it over. Just then Dale came out of the shop holding up two gas cans. "Found them! The place is completely empty. Looks like they left in a hurry. Might be a good idea to grab some supplies, there's food and drinks."

Shane agreed and looked at Glenn, "You coming?" He asked as he started to walk towards the convenience store.

Glenn hesitated, did he wanna risk it? He looked to Dale who was putting gas into the cans. Maybe he could ask him to just watch the car? He'd take no more than 5 minutes. Besides, it could never hurt to get more supplies.

Pulling the gas hose out and replacing it on the pump, he tightened the gas cap before closing it and looked to Dale. "Um, Dale?" Once Dale looked towards him he continued "Could you watch my car for a minute? I won't be long."

The old man raised a brow at the nervous lad but agreed nonetheless.

Glenn sighed in relief, "Thanks." He said before taking one last glance into the car and jogging to the doors where Shane was standing.

As they walked inside both Shane and Glenn grabbed a basket before breaking off in separate directions. Glenn ended up on the drinks aisle, he grabbed a big two-liter bottle of Root Beer and a couple of energy drinks along with a few big bottles of water. Across from the drinks was the snack aisle, there he grabbed some protein bars, a couple of bags of chips, and a few chocolate bars. There were even bags of 'snack nuts' which he threw in. On the next aisle were your regular household foods. He knew he had enough cans but it didn't stop him from throwing in a few more and grabbing that toothpaste. He couldn't remember if he'd grabbed his from his bathroom.

Next to the cans and jars was a small section of baby food. Glenn chewed his lip in thought, it was probably a good idea to start stocking up on his jarred baby food. Grabbing one he looked at the best by date. Noting that it said it was good until twenty-twelve, which was two years from now. Glenn decided then he would take all that he could. She wouldn't be eating it now but in a couple of months, she would be.

Setting his basket down, Glenn walked to the front of the store, reached over the counter, and grabbed a handful of bags. Shane who was walking out of the snack aisle with his second basket of stuff raised an eyebrow at him.

Sheepishly Glenn explained, "It's easier to carry your shit in a bag than a basket."

Shane chuckled and walked towards him then reached over and grabbed himself a handful too. "Yeah, it is. Good thinking."

Glenn shrugged his shoulders before throwing a thumb over his shoulder "I'm gonna go pack up my stuff. I'll be done in a few."

Shane muttered no problem as he wrestled with opening a bag.

Walking back towards his basket Glenn opened a bag and then opened another and double bagged. He kneeled and started packing up all the jars of baby food they had. There were probably a good thirty or so jars of different flavors and he managed to get it all in two double bagged bags. When he finished packing up the jars, he noticed a tin of formula, he grabbed it and threw it into a bag along with some pouches of applesauce. When he was done he then turned and bagged up everything that was in his basket.

At the end of it, he had five bags filled to the brim. He met Shane at the front of the store and together the two of them walked out. As Glenn got closer to his car he noticed a worried Dale standing there by the passenger window.

"Ah, Glenn, I was just about to come in and get you. I think a little someone might have woken up while you were gone." He said worriedly taking a glance into the window.

"Oh! Okay, thanks. Just-Just a second." Pressing a button on his keys his trunk popped up, setting his stuff down carefully and slamming shut the truck, Glenn made his way to where Dale was standing. Dale moved out of the way as Glenn pressed the unlock button on his keys and opened the door.

The sound of crying hit Glenn's ears as he opened the passenger door. Immediately he started to hush her "There there sweetie. Daddy has you." He said softly as he unlocked her from her car seat and lifted her out. She was a tiny little thing even all bundled up in her coat. He heard Dale let out a quiet gasp. He put Mia over his shoulder and gently pat her back trying to calm her down. To be honest he knew she was hungry but he didn't think he had the time to feed her.

Glenn turned as Shane walked up with a "You've got a kid!?"

"Uh, yeah. This is Mia." He said giving her a little lift.

Shane just blinked in surprise like it never occurred to him that babies could exist during this time.

Dale just gave a sad kind of smile "She's a pretty little thing. And I do mean little. She can't be more than a month old?"

"Two and half weeks actually, three next Tuesday."

"Wow, that can't be easy," Shane said still a little shocked.

Glenn shrugged his shoulders "It's got its days, but it's not like I can quit. She's all I got and I'm all she's got." He patted his baby's back as she started to calm down, giving little sniffles here and there before she let out a loud whine.

Knowing she was seconds away from a full-blown tantrum, Glenn opened his back door, grabbed the baby bag on the floor, and grabbed her a bottle of milk that he'd done up earlier.

Turning to the two other men he gave them an apologetic look "Look, I've gotta feed her before we go otherwise we'll never hear the end of it. She likes to make herself known and it's probably best if we keep a low profile."

With that he popped the lid off and set the bottle down on the car roof, he then turned her so she was off his shoulder and instead lying in his arms. Grabbing the bottle, he put the nip in her mouth just as she started to whine. Her little hands smacked the sides of the bottle as she sucked away happily and hungrily.

"No problem, We'll just make sure we've got everything. Plus I was thinking Dale, perhaps we should get some more cans and fill them up with gas? Couldn't hurt to have some extra." Shane said to Dale, his hands on his hips.

Dale hummed in agreement "You're probably right." He then turned to Glenn, "You just sit here and feed the little one. We'll go as soon as you're done."

Glenn thanked them both as he went to sit down, he gave the pizza box and chicken wings an awkward push with his butt to the other side of the seat and sat. He watched as the two men talked about how many gas containers they should get. He looked down at Mia as she sucked on her bottle, "Whatcha think baby? They don't seem so bad, huh? Should we tough it out with them or make a run for your grandparents?" Glenn bit the side of his lip "If we go with them Daddy's gotta help them get supplies which means I'd have to go away for a few hours and honestly sweetie I'm not too sure I wanna do that. But then again, it's a safe place for you. Lots of people around watching each other back and protecting one another." He sighed and looked down at Mia. She was looking up at her father and let out a gurgle.

Glenn chuckled, "Yeah it does sound like a good idea huh?"

He looked up again and hummed, "Yeah, doesn't sound so bad."
