Chapter 3
Gignesh Mitra P.O.V
1st November
Silence in the air was striking the dark misty clouds to cry out loud. Soon the deserted vast sky filled with glistening stars.
The peace and solace of the starry night is disturbed by the speeding vehicle and a broken soul. The dark inky sable black night roared with grief and confusion.
What will a child do when a parent suddenly walks out of their life? Misery, confusion and sorrow etched over his face. The silhouette of anger covered affection. Shadows of the past burdened the little heart. Emotions could no longer be controlled, rolled down on his tiny cheeks, hazy mind, and the clouds teared up gazing at the heart -wretched boy.
Visions blurred, memories ignored flooded and flashed in front of me. Sweat profusely over my forehead, chills down my spine, awakened with fear of reviving past I mused staring at the first sun rays of the day.
Disturbed by the nightmare occurred in the morning, browsed in my mind; parking my car I walked past the deserted corridors of 'Central Bureau of Investigation', Kolkata.
Lost in my past, which was buried long ago kept flashing haunting every passing second of my life. My trail of escape and ignorance all went in vain.
Everything was heard faint -
"Good morning sir"
Sighing and shaking away my musings I entered my cabin.
"Good morning Gign - Sir!"
Reluctantly I sat at my desk, preparing my mind to focus on work.
"Sir! Sir!...... Gignesh!"
"Ha?"
I stared at Surya with a confused look while he glared at me questioningly.
"Kya hua Mitra?"
(What happened Mitra?)
"Kuchh nahin ... tum mujhe kabhee mitra nahin kahate ho -"
(Nothing... You never call me Mitra unless -)
Realization hit me hard. I soon tried to mask my emotions but it didn't go unnoticed by him. He remained calm and diverted the topic sensing my secretive nature.
"Mr. Surya, where are the files of our current cases?"
"Sir, at present these had been postponed. Our current and the only case we need focus is Mr. Shreeghan Basu's death"
"He died due to a heart attack, right?"
"But sir his party members are suspecting the opposing party and it's an order from the higher authorities"
"So... What do you think about his death?"
"That's what our job sir, we need to find it"
Frustrated and impressed at his witty reply I inquired about the postmortem report. He pointed to the file on my desk. Sighing at my dumb act I skimmed through the file.
"The postmortem says that the heart attack is caused due to long term usage NSAID and some rashes and redness is found near upper arm"
"Well he actually suffered from arthritis but the suspicion is that someone gave him overdose of NSAID"
"Oh ...... kahaan hai satya?"
(Oh ...... Where is Satya?)
"On time and here is your coffee"
"That's punctual Satya and thanks but why did you bring it?"
"Why should I not bring it? By the way you've been off lately"
"Tum ko kaise-"
(How do you -)
"From high command and I have my sources"
She replied with a wink. Knowing well about both of them I proceeded on with the case.
"Coming back to the case we need to interrogate the family members regarding his arthritis treatment and if they have any suspicions."
"jab saty yahaan hai toh asaty kaiser hote hai?"
(When Satya is here the truth gets unrevealed.)
"Totally Satya!"
"I know right cause I'm Satya"
"If you keep on blabbering I can fire you both, you know that right?"
"You legally can't and remember that we're your friends"
"Not when I'm on duty"
"Yes Sir we cannot-"
"Fool me because I'm cool, I know and please can you keep quiet until we finish."
No reply
"Can you?"
Pin drop silence.
"I'm asking you both!"
"Yes and we were maintaining it!"
Not knowing what to do with these officers I gave up on this argument and we descended the stairs together and headed towards the parking spot.
Humming a random tune, my mood lighted by these two idiots alike, smiling like an idiot myself I drove to Rajarhat.
