When Reuben turned the car onto a small road from the main road, Devon's heart started to beat faster. The road was narrow and isolated, with only trees lining both sides. Devon wondered if Reuben was actually taking them camping or if he had other plans.

Seeing the isolated road, Reuben grew angry at Teressa for coming along. He realized that if Teressa hadn't joined them, he could have easily gotten rid of Devon in this remote place. But because of Teressa, he couldn't do anything.

The road ended near a wide, calm river surrounded by woods. Devon glanced at Reuben in fear, wondering, Is he trying to drown me in the river?

"Why do you look so scared? I'm not going to drown you in the water," Reuben joked, laughing. Teressa was shocked by Reuben's joke and even more shocked to see the fear on Devon's face.

"That's not funny, Reuben," Teressa said.

Shut up, bitch, Reuben thought, but he smiled at Teressa.

"Sorry about the bad joke," he said, pretending to sound genuine. Then he looked at Devon in the rearview mirror. Devon got the message.

"It's okay, Dad," Devon said quickly.

After they got out of the car, they saw a small harbor with a few boats. A man came toward them, looking like he was in his 30s.

"You must be Mr. Merrills?" the man asked Reuben.

"Yes, I'm Reuben Merrills, and this is my son, Devon. I brought him to the camp for bad kids," Reuben said. The man looked at Reuben with a questioning expression at his words.

"Hello, Mr. Merrills. I'm Mark, the outdoor activity leader. We can take a boat to the camp and meet the director," Mark said.

"Oh, I didn't know the camp was on the other side," Reuben replied in an annoyed tone, sounding as if he didn't want to go across.

"Wow, we get to go on a boat ride," Teressa said, looking around at the nature.

"Fine, let's go. This is such a waste of time. But what can you do when you have a badly behaved son," Reuben said angrily.

"Sir, we prefer you not to talk to your son like that," Mark said, looking at Reuben with disappointment.

"You don't know how much damage he's done to me and my family," Reuben said angrily. Teressa was shocked to see Reuben this angry.

"Reuben, don't yell at him. He's here to help us," Teressa said, touching Reuben's arm. Reuben wanted to shrug Teressa's hand away and slap her hard, but he held back. He had to wait until they were married. He needed patience.

"Sorry about that," Reuben apologized.

"It's okay, Mr. Merrills. Most of the parents who bring children here are like that," Mark said as he got into the boat and signaled for the others to join him.

Reuben climbed into the boat carefully. He looked as if he didn't want to be there. Devon already felt anxious and homesick. He hadn't traveled this far in a long time. He missed his room and felt tired. At the same time, he was scared, wondering if the people at the camp would hurt him the same way Reuben did.

During the boat ride, Teressa took some photos of the scenery. Reuben wished he could grab her phone and throw it into the water. Then, Teressa would yell at him, and he could slap her and throw her into the river. After that, he'd throw Devon into the water too, just to watch them both struggle to escape.
