I walked downstairs to go to school. 

     My girlfriend Emma broke up with me yesterday. I don't even want to go to school. 

     That out of the way, I got in my car. I took my normal routes, somehow hoping routine would distract me. I pulled into a parking spot and got out. I walked into the building and walked to my locker without saying a word to anyone. There stood my best friend, Skyler, waiting for me. She stood leaning against my locker with her arms crossed over her books. I walked up to her.

     "Hey." She smiled. "What took you so long today?" 

     "Just traffic," I said, trying to lie. She raised an eyebrow.

     "We live like one neighborhood apart. There was hardly any traffic," She said. I sighed. 

     We do live pretty close to each other. I guess I didn't think about that. We both drove ourselves to school so I should've figured that excuse was stupid.

     "I just... Slept in." I shrugged. 

     "If you say so," She said, raising an eyebrow. "I'll see you after class." She smiled and walked away. I got my books and went off to class. 

     I would have to tell her eventually, or she'd figure it out herself.

     "Hey, why are you over here by yourself?" Skyler walked over and sat down next to me. I knew lunch would be a time I couldn't avoid this.

     "I have something to tell you," I said, nervously.

     "What's up?" She asked. I was about to tell her when Emma and Skyler's boyfriend, Chase, approached us.

     "Hey, Babe," Sky kissed him on the cheek.

     "Hey, why don't you come sit with Emma and I?" He offered. I looked at her, and she was still looking at Chase.

     "Miro, too, right?" She asked, finally looking over at me.

     "No, sorry," Emma looked over at me. I quietly held my breath.

     "Why not?" Sky was confused.

     "We're not a couple anymore," I said briefly. Sky turned to me and looked somewhat shocked.

     "I'm so sorry," She said to me. I shook my head.

     "Go sit with them. I'm fine," I said.

     "But-" She began, but Emma cut her off.

     "Come on it's fine," She said. Sky sighed and walked off with them. I sat there alone. After lunch I was walking to my next class when Skyler came up next to me and started walking with me.

     "Why didn't you tell me?" She asked.

     "I was about to," I said. 

     "I'm here for you, Miro," She smiled. 

     "Ok," I said, praying I wouldn't have to keep thinking about this.

     "Hey, you have a game tonight, right?" Sky asked. I nodded. "I'll be there."

     "Chase has a football game tonight. Doesn't he?" I turned to her.

     "Yeah, but I go to like all his games. I can miss a couple," She smiled up at me.

     "I don't think that's a good idea," I said.

     "Oh come on!" She gently pushed her long, blonde, hair behind her.

     "Fine," I shrugged. 

      Even if I tell her no she'll come anyways.

     "Alright, see you tonight," She smiled. I nodded, and she walked off to her class. I couldn't help but smile to myself.

     I slid onto the ice for the first period. I scanned through the crowd quickly. I saw Skyler sitting there watching me. I smiled at her, and she smiled back. 

     The puck dropped and our center batted the puck to our left winger. He went down the ice with us behind him, doing our best not to be offsides. We passed the blue line and got into an offensive play. I saw a gap in the defense and banged on the ice to call for a pass. I got the pass and slowly slid into the defense. Some of the players on the other team creeped towards me. I quickly passed to our other defensemen, and he shot it. It slipped into the bottom left of the net. We celebrated, and I slid on the bench. 

     At the end of the game we won 3-2. I had scored one goal. After the game, I walked out to the parking lot and Skyler ran up to me.

     "You were really going to leave without saying anything to me?" She giggled. I smiled and hugged her.

     "Sorry," I smiled. She giggled.

     "You played great! You've gotten even better since I was last able to come to one of your games," She smiled. I smiled.

     "Thanks," I smiled down at her. 

     "I need to get home. I'll see you tomorrow," I said. She nodded. I walked to my car and drove home. 

     Skyler is really sweet. I wish I was able to spend more time with her...
