The News
“What the hell do you mean he’s gone? He’s my baby brother!” I scream at the Omega.
“I’m sorry for your loss, Miss. Alpha told me to send the news to you. I’m just doing my job,” he stammers.
“You’re lying!” I growl. “Get the hell out of here or I’ll rip your hamstring out with my teeth.”
At once, he flees. I slam the door with a loud bang, making my roommate and best friend Francis flinch. She knows that when I’m angry, I’m not in the mood to talk.
“I’m going to call mum,” I say through my gritted teeth.
Francis only nods.
I make my way to my room and lock the door. Francis is human so she doesn’t know anything about werewolves. Poor Francis has no idea that there are more things to worry about other than exams.
Grabbing my Samsung Galaxy Note 3, I call mum. It takes about one minute before she picks up the phone.
“Bree?” my mum says, sounding like she’s chocking.
“Please tell me Brad is okay. Please tell me that what the Omega said was a joke,” I plead almost silently.
That’s when she cannot take it and starts to cry her heart out. I hear my dad soothing her in the background and take the phone from her.
“Bree, Brad is gone. He disappeared,” my father says with a strong voice. I know that he must have looked terrible.
“What happened? How did it happen?” I ask.
The memories of my little brother haunt me. The time when he was born and I was six. I remember the time when I was extremely jealous because my parents seem to pay more attention to him than me. I pushed him down when we were ice-skating. Brad would introduce me to his jock friends and I would introduce my geeky friends to him.
The last time I saw him was last year during Christmas.
“Alpha sent him and a few pack warriors out to deal with some rogue and hunter problems. No one came home, Bree,” he tells me.
“Hunters?” I repeat in shock. “We have never had a hunter problem before.”
Oh, Brad. Please be alive.
“Yes. It is rather surprising that butchers suddenly decide to come to a little unheard town.”
“Why Meadow Falls?” That question is more directed to myself than my dad.
“I don’t know why, Bree. Alpha doesn’t let me or your uncles join the search party. He said that our emotions will distract us, which is true,” he states.
“They’re just rogues and hunters, right? I’m sure it is easy to kill them off.”
“Bree, it’s not just ordinary hunters. It’s The Deadly Twins.”
That’s when something in me snaps.
“Dad, I’m coming home.”
Please stay alive, Brad.
Author's Note
Ello! This is a spin-off from The Hunter in Meadow Falls. It may show you some other details from the Bree's point of view which relates a little to Melanie in the real book.
