Watching the Bunting family go about their day sent a wave of unease through Hermes. The girl hadn't left her room, and the others were leaving her alone. He had thought there would be fussing, arguments and at least some kind of escape attempt since Cain's declaration of no action, would ensure her love would die.
"What are you doing?" Artemis startled Hermes, so much so he nearly fell off the branch he had been sitting on.
"Just watching them."
She glanced towards the house. "That poor girl. Should we tell her?"
"No, it's better for your brother if we don't."
Artemis sighed, knowing he was right and the pair of them sat in silence for a few moments before she spoke again. "I don't believe she will just accept Cain's decision lightly. Have you spoke to her at all?"
"No. She was asleep last night when I checked her."
The pair instantly went to her room and upon finding it empty, Hermes knew his unease was for a reason.
"She's gone."
"She has to be here." Artemis left the room and finding the hunters Mother in the kitchen, wasted no time in asking her. "Where is your daughter?"
"She disappeared last night. On a mission, she should be back soon." The woman smiled and went back to her cooking.
"Last night?"
"Yes, she was here." She thought about it for a moment. "Then she just, vanished. You're welcome to stay and wait for her to come back. She asked for lasagna for dinner, so I'm making some for when she gets back."
"You don't think that he..." Hermes asked Artemis, coming into the kitchen.
Cain had vanished last night too, and he had foolishly presumed he'd gone to that arena of his. It was why he had decided to watch over the house, make sure nothing happened to the girl while Cain was away. It was then Portia appeared, and signalled to the pair to meet her outside, which they quickly did.
"He's gone. By the time I saw it happening, it was too late." She blurted, resting on hand on her forehead as her brow wrinkled with the stress of the situation. "He left her to them, and went home."
"Them?" Hermes asked cautiously.
"The Fates. I saw them take her as he went through the portal. It's happened." Portia confirmed.
"Then it is time for us to go back too." Artemis decided, her modern clothing altering to that of the soft flowing robes she wore in the other realm. Her bow was I her hand, while her arrows were slung over her shoulder, before a black robe covered her form.
"I'm coming with you!" Portia demanded.
"Of course. No one knows the Fallen One as you do." Then she turned to Hermes. "Take us home."
With a reluctant sigh, he simply stared at the pair of them before shaking his head. "I'm sorry, I can't do that."
Hermes vanished, and looking up the women barely saw the bright flash by the sun as he left the realm without them. Portia was not without her own tricks.
"He doesn't know where their gateway is." She told Artemis, and linking her arms with the Power, the duo found themselves surrounded by red dirt and hot, burning sun. "It's in here!"
Artemis sensed the magic, although she could not see it and as Portia walked her through the vision, Artemis used her arrows to break the magic that Cain had used to cloak portal and it became visible once more. The blue light had both of them shielding their eyes for a moment as their eyes adjusted; their pale skin turning as blue as the portal.
"Are you ready?" She asked Portia.
Portia didn't answer and instead walked into the opening, with Artemis right behind her.
