Chapter Twenty Three
"Elise, come on. Go for a walk, take Alfie to the snack machine. Just do something!" Reece is on my case about moving and feeling stiff I give in and get up. He guides me to the door and Alfie seems happy to go for a walk too.
"Yeah, maybe get a shower too." Logan joins in.
"I don't even sme- Logan!" I practically jump on the bed and hug him tight enough that he should pass out again. Instead he only laughs.
"Anyone would think you care about me or something Bunny, tone it down."
"How about I knock you out for another eight hours?" I mumble sarcastically still holding him.
"Better."
Reece comes back in with the doctor and I stand by Alfie as he checks him over.
"I think you're going to be fine Mr Murphy. The nurse will be in shortly to remove your IV and then we can get you discharged." He walks out scribbling something down on his clipboard. That's it? He is awake, he is fine - that's over?
"So what did I miss?" Logan sits up and takes the water jug from the tray positioned over the end of his bed. He sways slightly, clearly dizzy and instinctively I move to help him.
"Well Alison was wearing vampire fangs and Elise managed to get the bracelet off her to then knock her out. She was taken into custody and the whole underground was terminated. No one is allowed in now unless they're with the treaty keepers and the few needing refuge were moved to another location." Reece fills Logan in and Alfie's hair keeps nudging my arm.
"Ah guys, I'm just going to take Alfie out for a bit." They both nod and following him into the corridor, I'm surprised when he returns back into the snake. I didn't think he liked the feel of the floor and as he picks me up, I'm not sure what he is doing. He moves quickly, sliding along the slippery tiles as if he was in water and I'm just along for the ride. Passing the nurses' station, I remember the way out the doctor who was seeing Reece took me through and just when I'm about to speak, he turns left instead of right and we end up in a change room.
"A shower? You want the water now?" He shakes his head and sits me in the shower cubicle in the very back, moving around me his snake wall is back in place. "What is it Alfie?"
"Safe Elise."
"Alfie, what's going on? We can't leave Reece and Logan!"
"Ssssh!" He taps my head and I squat down so I am hidden within him and he rests his head, blocking me in.
I think about commanding him again, but the whole master - demon thing doesn't sit right with me.
"Alfie, are Reece and Logan going to be ok?" I whisper. He lifts his head and looks down at me, nodding again.
Then we wait.
My legs get sore from the way I am sitting, so giving up I sit on the tiles and lean against his surprisingly warm body. I had always thought snakes were cold blooded but he wasn't a normal snake. Were the guys looking for me? They probably thought we ran away or something and I can just imagine the lecture that will follow on my return. Alfie isn't giving much up and just went I consider napping, he uncoils.
To my surprise, Reece is standing there and helps me step over the last two rows of Alfie as he doesn't completely stretch out.
"That was weird." I look back at Alfie who is staring towards the way out, oblivious to me.
"We had an arrangement." Reece shares and raising my eyebrow at him, I wait for him to explain. He doesn't.
"Can you please tell me what is going on?"
"You said you saw her on the phone, people were going to come looking for you since she told them you were here. So if Alfie sensed anything, he was to hide you." It was obvious now.
"Oh. How did you know they wouldn't hurt you guys?"
"Well, I didn't. But I figured they would be looking for you, not us. When a 'nurse' I hadn't seen before came in asking for you, I said you'd left a couple of hours ago in regards to an Alpha and didn't want to be slowed down by us."
"Reece, you are not just a pretty face!" I patted him on the cheek and he pushed me away, unimpressed. "I didn't even think of that."
"Well you were kind of distracted making promises I would love to see what ones you stick too!" He teased.
"I don't know what you're talking about." I could feel my cheeks go red, and I wondered just which things he had heard.
"No? Please wake up Logan, I promise to never steal your car again, I promise I will give you a massage every day. Wake up and I'll let you -"
"And that's enough you perve. I thought you guys were at the vending machines!"
"We were, the vending machines are only a room up."
Oh shit.
"Then why were you gone for so long?"
"We sat in the waiting room there to give you some privacy." He shrugged, clearly enjoying my discomfort.
"Obviously!"
Walking back to the room, I noticed he was in fact right. There was more than one waiting room and going past it, Reece nudged Alfie and the pair went back in there. I kept going to Logan's room, praying he didn't actually hear any of it. Opening the door I froze, shocked at the sight of a very naked Logan.
Oh god, he did hear.
"Ah, as much as I don't mind you checking me out - I don't want half the ward and nursing staff too. Door!"
"Oh, right." Closing it I stood back out in the corridor, hearing him laughing as he got dressed. A few seconds later, the door opened and his wet hair stuck to parts of his forehead, hiding the bruise left from his hit. His eyes were bright with amusement and again I found myself blushing. Once more I was frozen in place and tilting my chin up, his minty breath brushed against my skin as he kissed my cheek.
"I like it when you blush Bunny."
"Yeah well I like it when I get a bit of warning of what I'm about to walk into!"
"The door was closed, it's a hospital - they're usually open. I know you just wanted to see all of this." He waves his hands up and down his body, flirting shamelessly.
"Whatever Fabio, come on let's get out of here."
Stepping towards the waiting room where Reece and Alfie are, Logan holds me back and takes my hand. I look at our entwined fingers and then up at him. We don't hold hands, it's such a coupley kind of thing and I don't know if we will end up being one of those hand holding couples. "Still feeling dizzy, might need you to carry me out?"
I'm torn. Part of me is relieved he is ok and the other part wants to punch him for abusing my new found sympathy towards him. I know he is only kidding about carrying him, but the hand holding is freaking me out. So I manage to find a compromise within all my internal dilemmas and stupid emotions.
Pulling his hand around my waist, he smiles like he has won the lottery and instantly puts his other there without my guidance. My own hands cup his face and pull him closer for a kiss. He ends up stepping backwards and leaning against the door, keeping me firmly against him. I kiss him for longer than I intended to do, easily caught up in the moment it's my emotions who win out. Before I let them take over completely and join forces with my hormones, I break it off and smile at the goofy expression on his face.
"Dam, I need to get hurt more often!"
"I'm glad you're ok Logan."
"I can tell." He kisses me again before I just let him hold me. How did this actually happen? I'm supposed to hate him.
"But I'm not carrying you anywhere and none of this hand holding crap."
"Here I was thinking we were having a moment," he teased. "But I am pretty sure I heard you offering to let me hold something else..."
"Fine. We can hold hands!" I give in and starting to walk away, he quickly grabs it back. He kisses my knuckles before he happily swings it in between us as we go to the others. "You guys good to go?"
"Just trying to work out how to get out in case we're still being watched on the outside." Reece looks up from his phone and I try to hide my smirk. "You know don't you?"
"Think they'll be watching the underground?"
"No, cause it's been completely sealed off." Reece reminds me.
"Minor details, come on."
We get our bags and I tell Reece to meet us in the laundry room once he has finished distracting the nurses. Once we get in there, I'm glad it's still empty and get Alfie to lift me up into the air ducts. It's so much easier than climbing and jumping and once I'm in, he lifts Logan up too. While I wait for Reece and Alfie, Logan starts going down to make sure nothing from this way was blocked either. He doesn't come back, so with Reece going next, I wait for Alfie and as soon as his tail is in front of me, put the cover back in place and follow them down. Reece is using his phone light to help us see and the tiny glow of the screen doesn't help my confidence in jumping down into the rubbish dump. The second my legs come down, Alfie has grabbed me and instead, I am carefully moved beside him.
"Now where?" Logan asks, bumping into me.
"Reece?" I got them here, the rest is up to him.
"Come on, they have an emergency tunnel somewhere around here. If not, there is the elevator they use to lift the bins out?"
"Bet that smells nice." Logan jokes and rolling my eyes, we follow Reece.
Everything is silent apart from the slight sssh sound from Alfie and as we turn another corner, the green light for exit fills the small room. Reece drops down to the floor below the sign and the grinding of metal has me covering my ears. If anyone was around, they were definitely going to hear that.
"Oops. It was stuck!" He defends, and the hole in the wall is finally revealed.
"It's fine, come on." I go to move in first and Logan pulls me back. "What?"
"How about we go first, just to make sure it's safe?"
"I'm pretty sure I wasn't the one knocked out for eight hours by a girl and-"
"Wasn't there a promise made about listening to him more if he woke up?" Reece throws into the mix, "Heard that too, so stop arguing and let us go first."
"I had my fingers crossed the whole time." I lie before sarcastically adding to it. "What if someone comes after hearing that? I'm going to be so defenceless and alone."
"You're not defenceless or alone. Alfie will follow behind you." Reece pats me on the cheek like I had done to him and in the dim light he can't see me glaring at him. Jerk.
Sure enough the guys disappear into the darkness and after a few minutes, a tapping echoes down the passage so I take that as a sign to go. It's a little more roomier than the ducts we just moved around in and getting near the end, the glow from outside fills me with a sense of relief. It must be nearly dawn so at least that rules out the vampires coming back. For now.
Logan's hands come down to help me out of the tunnel, and thankfully the streets are deserted. I also have no sense of direction on where we actually are and as Alfie comes up, it's definitely a good thing the humans are all safe in bed. Logan and Reece seem to have a clue and start running down the street.
"At least let me carry a bag!" I call out, only to be told to hurry up.
Finding an empty van, Reece makes quick work of breaking in and once we have Alfie loaded in the back, the three of us sit up the front on the bench seat.
"This is cosy!" I elbow both them in the side, earning a glare from Reece and a sigh from Logan. Starting the van, Reece takes off down the street, leaving me to ask the obvious question. "So, where are we going?"
"Away." Reece answers.
"But where?" Leaning forward, I play with the radio dials and finding something dancey that I want to hear, leave it alone. Until Logan hits another button putting something more rock and roll on and as I go to change it back, Reece slaps my hand away. "Hey!"
"I promise I won't even play with the radio if you turn on something crap that you like." Reece mocks, doing a whiney and bad impersonation of me.
Logan bursts out laughing as my mouth drops. "I'm going to have to get you to write these all down for me Slayer!"
"No, no he's not!" I warn, "Reece, you're not funny!"
"I'm not trying to be funny, you did start everything off with, 'I promise'. I'm just making sure you hold your end of the deal!" He laughs, unable to keep a straight face.
"I promise to punch you in the face if you say one more!" I cross my arms to sulk and that only makes them laugh more.
"Oh you definitely have to fill me in!" Logan manages to get out, taking a few deep breaths to calm down.
"I hate you both." I growl, turning the radio back to my station and raising the volume.
-x-
We keep going until the late afternoon and waking up from my nap, it takes me a few moments to realise we've gone back to Logan's hideout because that worked out so well last time. Our stolen van is parked around the back and hidden in a garage near a few other cars. Seeing the bikes, I make a mental note of their location in case we need to get away quick.
"Oh you're all ok!" Sonia appears out of nowhere as the guys grab our bags and I check on Alfie. I'm instantly grabbed into a hug and can't help be sucked into her warm and fuzzy feelings that are pouring out the fae like a bad smell. "I'm so sorry, I didn't know until it was too late! Your kind aren't usually harbouring ill intentions to each other. I know now though, unless Logan brings them here, they're the enemy!"
It's hard to take her seriously when she sounds like a preteen high on red bull talking about ponies.
"No worries, you tried." I smile softly at her and she looks at Alfie cautiously. His tongue flicks out testing the air around her and as she extends her hand, he nudges it gently.
"Well I never. I guess it really depends on who creates these creatures to decide on their nature. He is very bonded to you Elise."
"I know, I love the little guy." Alfie turns to me and I scratch his spot under his chin making the tip of his tail wag.
"Little isn't the word I would use!" Sonia giggles to herself and leads us inside. "Oh I nearly forgot!"
Turning to Alfie, she blows him a kiss and as the golden beams sent his way touch him - he disappears.
"What did you do!" I yell, running to where he stood he was gone.
"I have hotel guests, so rather than scare them away he will be waiting for you upstairs." She loops her arm in Logan's and the pair start to chat away about what's been happening and looking at Reece, he is back to being Mr Serious and only shrugs.
As promised, Alfie is waiting for us as we step out of the elevator and Sonia stops at the room a few doors down from I remember going in last time. "He'll like this."
Before I can ask what she is talking about, she opens the door and rather than a dingy hotel room it's like walking into the middle of a rainforest. Alfie is in the room in seconds. Where I know the bed should be, a pond is running along the length of the wall and half of the room.
"How did you..?" I'm speechless, stepping into the room it even feels humid and tropical.
"Magic my dear. I'm not all protection spells and transportation!" She winks and Logan stays with me as Reece is shown to his own room in the opposite direction. "I'll be downstairs if you need anything. Dinner is served from five thirty until late."
Rather than using the elevator, she disappears and once I'm certain Alfie is ok I go with Logan to the other end of the hall and into his room. Sadly there are no forests in here, just the same old room as last time. My disappointment is obvious and Logan laughs as he dumps our bags down and kicks off his shoes.
"What?"
"Nothing Princess." Smirking he claps, and the worn exterior disappears into something more fresh and modern. The walls are clean and repainted, the furniture sleek and in style rather than leftovers from the eighties and the carpet is once again plush and new.
"You're magic?" I gasp, unable to believe I'm standing in the same room. Looking back out the door, the hall is still in need of repair and yet I'm just as amazed as I was seeing a forest.
"No, I got Sonia to do it as a trick after last time. I get it, you're a Bunting. You like houses not trailers or run down shacks. I just want a roof over my head and a bed, you want to stay at the Hilton."
"I'm not that bad." Great, now I really do sound like a stuck up princess.
"Yeah you are, the first thing you said when you woke up after the vamp attack was I must have chosen the hotel." He reminds me, though as he falls into the new bed with the plush pillows and amazing sheets, he doesn't seem to mind.
"There were water stains on the roof and the curtains smelt like an old cat lady."
"I think that adds character to a place." He sighs, closing his eyes. I take off my jacket and my own shoes, going through my bag for a change of clothes. "I can hear you going through a bag. It better not be mine and you better not be trying read more of my journal!"
"Don't need to, I'm up to date." I tease as I tie up my hair. Now we can relax for five minutes, I intend on making the most of the new and improved bathroom.
"Of course you are." He groans, rolling over to bury his face in the pillow.
Laughing I leave him be and once I'm under the hot water, try and empty my mind. Of course I can't. Selene has Jordan. Two can play the pretend to be asleep game, and in the van I had heard Reece and Logan talking about how she had gone missing. I could contact those shifters again, see if they had noticed anything else going on. I thought about Mum and Dad, I hadn't even spoken to them recently. If I hadn't decided to go looking for Jordan, what would have happened come the Blood Moon?
Would I have been abducted from college, would they have raided the house? Would I have been that out of shape I couldn't have fought them off? Logan had been able to beat me pretty easily, and even when those stupid dogs came that Mum took out I was shown again how weak I let myself become. Being an active Hunter worked to my advantage. I had strong genes, and now I was using them.
That's why Selene wasn't going to succeed, Jordan was going to be fine and I had become so lost in thought I didn't notice I wasn't alone anymore. Peeking out of the curtain, Logan was inspecting himself in the mirror, checking out the now non-existent cut and even the bruise was hard to see as it turned yellow.
"Hey! I'm in the shower!"
"I know, relax. I just needed the mirror for a sec."
"You're so vain!"
"You're so vain!" He mimicked back at me, and the fact he only had his jeans on hit home. His back was toned as he bent his arms, each muscle seemed to flex in such a way, I forget everything I was thinking about. "I should start charging."
"Huh?" Blinking a few times, he turned to look at me and leaned against the counter smirking.
"Like something you see?" He teased, though his voice went a little deeper, a little too seductive even. God he looked good. Waiting until after this was all over to give 'us' a go was over rated and feeling rather bold, definitely too confident - I smirked. Pulling back the curtain, now I was on full show to him.
"Do you?"
"Don't tease me like that Elise." His pupils dilated, darkening his eyes as he swallowed forcefully. The way he looked at me made me shiver and closing the curtain, tried to hide my smile as I heard him finishing getting undressed. As he nearly ripped the plastic off its hooks to get in, I lost that battle and was practically glowing as he stood against me. "Is this another one of those promises?"
"God I hate you!" Yet the way in which my body was responding to him would say otherwise.
"Really? Cause I'm going to hate to see what happens when you love me!"
This time I just kissed him to shut him up.
-x-
Laying beside Logan, we well and truly missed dinner. The way his arm was wrapped around my waist made it impossible for me to move and with the distraction over, my mind went back into overdrive. Thinking about what he said about when I love him, not the sex part of it, just the love I didn't really know what to think. I loved my parents. I love Jordan and Alfie. I never really worried about relationships and dating. I had needs - I had them looked after. Growing further attachment to people meant you were going to be sad a lot when they all went missing and died.
Thinking of Logan going missing or dying hurt. More than worrying about him not waking up.
Did I love him?
I cared about him.
I cared about Reece, but I don't love him.
Looking down at Logan's rather peaceful face as he leant on my shoulder had me thinking more and more about our stupid relationship and less about Jordan and the real issues going on in the world. It would make sense for me not to take this further. I should keep him at a distance because what if Selene does win.
What if I die or worse than that, what if I got pumped full of vamp blood and no one was there to save me?
Wanting to be, human, was my way of forgetting the issues we face. Sure I was doing it all to fight them, refusing to conform but if I stopped being who I am for long enough, would I change? My skills weakened. I learnt that quickly, but it didn't take me long to get back into shape. Could I disappear from this place, move to somewhere the monsters didn't like to go and have a life where falling in love didn't mean if we grew into our thirties together we were doing great.
Sighing, I was hungry and could do with a drink too.
"Oi! Let me go."
"No." Logan snuggled in closer against me and flicking his ear he groaned and rolled over. The fact I was getting up quickly got his attention and sat up turning on the light. "Where are you going?"
"To find food. You made me miss dinner!" I growl, only making him laugh,
"You weren't complaining at the time."
Getting dressed, I ignored that last comment.
"Can you bring me back something?" He laid back down, hugging the pillow in my place.
"No, I'm not your slave. Come with me?"
"I'm too comfy. You're not, running away again are you?" Now he really was waking up.
"No, I'm too hungry. I'd rather slip something in your food and bugger off that way." I smiled innocently as he groaned again.
"Not funny."
Leaving the room, I check on Alfie who is sound asleep on a rock and head over to the elevator. Going downstairs, I find Reece at the hotel bar and take a seat beside him. Spying the plate of nachos in front of him, helped myself and ordered a drink.
"Good thing I was done with those."
"Yup, good thing." Something seemed off about him and the fact he had hardly touched his food made me frown. "I know I ask this a lot, you alright?"
"Yeah, you know when you over sleep and you feel shitty? Got that now. Here's the bar menu if you want something else. Restaurant closed an hour ago."
"Thanks." Deciding to order something for Logan, I try to see what else I'd want to eat so we could share and got it to be delivered to his room.
"Sleep well?"
"Yeah, really needed it." I lied, I hadn't had a minute of sleep since we arrived. "Alfie is out too."
"Been a big couple of days for him."
Well this conversation was dying quickly.
"Elise, may I have a second?" And the fae came to the rescue.
"Sure! Hope you feel better soon and thanks for dinner." I took my drink with me and squeezed him arm lightly as I went past, following her through the lobby and into the staff room where there was quite a party going on. "Whats going on?"
I sat my glass down on the desk beside me, putting my hands on my hips - I had nothing on me as a weapon. Three fae, no not fae - creatures stood in the tiny space taking up most of the room. Sonia closed the door behind me and instantly, I started to panic. If I screamed would Reece hear? Could Alfie get down here?
"Calm down Miss Bunting. I am Ailin Chan, here on behalf of the Council of Treaty Keepers. These are my associates, Lili and Toyo Chan." She introduced. All three of the women were identical, clearly triplets and their black uniform reminded me of pyjamas. Ailin was slightly taller than the other two, and all three had deep brown eyes and the blackest shiniest hair I had ever seen. My first instinct was to make some kind of smart ass ninja comment, but something about the women told me to shut up especially when I saw the nun-chucks tucked into their belt.
"And you're here why?" I glanced at Sonia who kept her eyes down on her toes, refusing to look at the trio.
"To put you under our protection." Ailin answered simply and from the stony expressions on their faces, I wondered if she knew how to smile.
"I don't need protection, I have-"
"The demon, a slayer and a tracker in your company. We know and that is why you're coming with us." She nodded and I think it was Toyo, or maybe it was Lili stepped forward to grab my arm.
"I don't think so." Grabbing the beer mug, I hit the woman in the face making her let me go and grabbing the door handle managed to open it enough to scream out. "REECE!"
I barely made it two steps before Ailin grabbed my jacket and turning to kick her, she dodged my kick and now I was facing her, she reached out and had me by the neck. Her fingers seemed to grow into claws, completely wrapping around my neck and while I knew it was futile, I kept trying to fight her off me.
"Calm down. We don't mean you any harm. You will be safe with us."
Anyone who told me I would be safe with them, instantly made me not trust them and thankfully my back up arrived.
"Elise!" Reece called out, clearly having heard me.
"We don't have time for this." Ailin snapped and the duo with her formed a circle around me. Something was muttered in what I think was Japanese and as I was about to pass out, the hotel disappeared. The pressure around my throat weakened and gasping for breath I found myself alone surrounded by paper walls.
"What the fuck?" Rubbing my neck, I twirled around and looking up a lantern offered some kind of soft lighting for me to see by. The screen like walls looked flimsy and going to a corner, pushed against it. It didn't swing or tear like I expected and inspecting all four - there was no sign of a door. A cushion sat in the middle of the room and picking it up, threw it thinking that might help but it didn't even make a dent.
Trying to think over everything I knew about Japan, all I could think of was Memoirs of a Geisha and as I tried to slide the walls, the third one opened and peeking out, a corridor of the same kind of walls greeted me. Taking my chances, I started to run and coming across a normal door, opened it into a room full of mirrors.
"Not weird?" I muttered, sticking against one of the sides. Black exercise mats covered the floor and while it was only my reflection staring back at me, I felt I was being watched.
The next door opened onto a terrace, the gardens lush and green with the most beautiful weeping willow siting proudly on the hill in front of me.
"They took me to Japan?" Talking to myself wasn't really helping and admiring the garden, it was beautiful. A stone gravel path led past the tree and over to an ornamental red bridge. The river underneath it bubbled along effortlessly and just as I was about to see where it went, Ailin appeared in front of me.
"You're not in Japan. We like to keep our home traditional."
"What are you?" That was what was bugging me the most. The beautiful woman had to be a cover as I know I had felt claws not hands around my neck and everything I sensed about her told me demon.
"I am a Kasha." What followed was completely foreign to me.
"In English?" I didn't recognise a word, and while we did learn other languages at school - I also slept through most of those classes. I did know numbers in French and colours in Italian - what she said was nothing to do with either of those things!
"I do not know?" She answers confused.
"Am I going to have to try and kill you because with the being abducted thing I left my weapons behind."
"We are collectors, trained to abide the Council of the Treaty Keepers."
"So that's a no?" She just stares at me blankly and once again I'm left in an awkward conversation. "Ok, so how about you tell me why I am here?"
"We were asked to collect you and keep you under our guard. You are safe here."
I laugh, hating how bitter I sound. "Yeah, ok."
"Come inside. You are to be expecting a phone call." She comes up the steps and as I turn around I jump at the sight of the black cat with the greenest eyes staring up at me. We walk past it and now there are about four others in the gym space.
"I'm expecting a phone call?"
"Yes." I follow her back into building and as we walk down the corridor of sliding doors, I look back to find about nine cats following us. The majority are completely black, with a few splashed with white. All have green eyes and I sense they're not all they seem either. Once I'm settled back on the cushion in the room I arrived in, she brings in a tray of sake and two small cups that remind me of shot glasses.
Another cushion appears in front of me and she sits and pours us each a cup, bowing her head slightly we clink glasses. Some of the cats come in and join us, creeping me out further.
"So does Kasa mean cat demon?" I fake sip the liquid, not taking any chances.
"Kasha and not quite."
I wait for her to elaborate, but she doesn't.
"What does it mean, what are you?" I keep asking.
"Typically we are soul or body collectors. Now with our arrangement, we are trained to protect those we collect."
"And that cats?"
She sighs, not liking all my questions. "We use this human disguise when we need to blend in. Our true form is more feline and if not dressed as human, we prefer something more comfortable."
"Are you like a ninja?" I can't help but sound excited.
"I will keep it simple for you, yes we are trained in 'being ninja'" She throws out her accent when saying being ninja, and if I didn't know better she was making fun of me. At least it meant she had some kind of sense of humor so I went with it. "I will back shortly."
Sitting in a room with a bunch of cats that were also demons wasn't exactly how I saw my night going when I got up to get food and thinking of Logan, instantly frowned making one of the cats come over. It rubbed itself against my knee and without thinking I started to stroke it, amused at how it purred.
"Logan is going to be so pissed off kitty kasha thing. Hope you lot know what you're doing!"

Thought I'd give Logey/Bunny some 'alone time'. After everything, think they deserve it.
