CHAPTER 4 - COUNCIL SYMPOSIUM
''You are still on about that David, that theory hasn't been proven yet and it is a path to sure death'' David's sister Ivy said, she had his fierce look but was still very beautiful and quite proud as well, she had been outside the wall more than she had been in it.
''Yes sister but if I am right, if what happened to me is because of it, then it's all the more reason for us to find it, to obtain that power''
''are you talking about the city or your family?'' Robert inquired as he stared David in the eye.
There was a moment of silence as David glared at Robert before Paul rose his hand and suggested ''this city will be in need of supplies very soon, it isn't a bad idea to send hunters out but a particular number of them, some will be given missions to find out whatever they can about the Verns''
''That will stretch that party quite thinly and who will watch over the city'' an old woman by the name of Sofia interrupted, she was one of the elders in the Varken community, they had witnessed a lot of terrible things in the past and harboured a lot of secrets that only the top heads of the council knew and that was the people in the room.
''the Nevins and a handful will do that'' Paul said as David looked at him in surprise.
''but my family members are trained and in all honesty are most likely to return alive'' David protested but Paul interrupted ''it is precisely for this reason that it is imperative they stay and guard Varken, they are the most qualified to ensure the survival of the city, no one can guarantee this city's safety like the Nevins and with the continued resistance from the Builders, we'll need everything''
David after a while sighed ''okay Paul, you normally have good decision and planning skills, we'll trust your intuition but don't blame me if everyone else is killed'' and with that he walked out of the room.
Robert sighed once David was out the door ''that man has such an ego, you should advise your brother, just because he can magically make fire doesn't make him invincible or unchallengeable'' he said and Ivy simply ignored the old man as Christopher went on.
''So it is decided, we shall start planning for another mission...Paul, I'm sorry I know you just came back'' but Paul nodded and said ''I'm needed to ensure my friend doesn't blow things out of proportion, I'll watch over him, I just hope this mission doesn't go bad...Allen wouldn't like that''
Ivy looked at him sadly ''I'm sure he understands, his father is a hero, he knows it requires most of your time''
Suddenly another Info-Drone came into the room through a hole in the door that David just exited ''Emergency Paul Treasure, there was an explosion at your house and... '' before the drone continued Paul was already running out the door.
Allen slowly opened his eyelids, his head ached and his body felt numb, he could smell smoke and felt glass all over the floor. His blurry vision soon cleared up and he looked around slowly at the small fires that decorated the area. An alarm kept whirring loudly as a voice announced ''Danger...please evacuate'' the announcement kept repeating as Allen struggled to stand up.
His body had several bruises as he limped towards the gaping hole before him, cold wind blew in making him shiver but he kept on as he peered over and as he expected, the stranger was gone, no trace of the individual in the distance, he must've jumped out.
Allen looked around him, the damage was considerable, he wanted to shout but his voice felt raspy, as if he swallowed glass, he walked slowly back, all the while the alarm kept beeping. Allen soon reached the elevator shaft and just as he reached the place the shaft was supposed to appear he heard a humming.
Allen knew it wasn't from the alarm or any technology he knew, the humming was weird, almost as if a creature or person was humming. Allen was scared to his bones, every instinct told him to run, to get to safety but he went against his will, as if his body moved on its own. He couldn't stop himself as he walked back towards the site where the explosion occurred, he could feel the air get colder as he held his arms.
Allen grunted as the pain in his body increased every step he took; he took a couple of breaths as he coughed out blood, why was he going back? He didn't understand why he was going to the origin of the humming, was it a desire to be like his father, or perhaps he thought in a weird way it'll provide answers to what happened to his mother.
After a while he finally reached the location which surprisingly wasn't exactly where the explosion occurred but rather, was in the place unaffected by the explosion, in the main room where he and his Dad watched movies and the news normally. In front of him was a large vibrating black sphere hovering in mid-air, the humming by now was very high pitched and sparks of electricity flew out.
Everything in the room vibrated, several things fell down as the black ball began to vibrate even more, lights flickered on and off as the floor began to shake and it was then Allen realised just how stupid he was and he proceeded to leave but suddenly his feet lifted off the ground.
Just then a blast ricocheted out of the black sphere like the after shock of a nuclear explosion, the white wave passed through Allen's body and vanished into the wall.
Everything was suddenly in slow motion as Allen watched several equipment hover in the air, food particles and debris were floating in the air and Allen watched in horror as his skin began to peel slowly. The humming had increased ten times fold and Allan's ears hurt as he floated higher and higher till his back was against the ceiling.
