CHAPTER 1 - THE LOWER SECTION

Allen swung his staff hard at Paul who easily dodged the attack, it was incredibly frustrating to Allen when that happened.

Paul laughed ''What's funny?'' Allen said panting as he swung at his father again, he was exhausted but was determined to beat his father at least this one time.

He had trained in secret at night when he was asleep, he wanted to, no, he needed to prove to his father that he was worthy of the Treasure name.

''You have gotten better'' Paul smiled ''someone has been training'' he swung his staff at Allen who managed to avoid the swing.

Despite falling from exhaustion Allen snickered ''Did you think I'd let you beat me every time?'' Allen ran at Paul and tried to grab him but Paul was faster, completely faster and he slipped from his son's grasp.

''You are just sixteen Allen; I don't expect you to become exceptionally good overnight'' Paul swung his staff in a sudden rapid manner at Allen's legs and he automatically toppled over.

Another day, another loss for Allen.

Allen did his best to hide his angered face but Paul saw right through it, Paul laughed as he knelt down in front of his son ''Someday I know you will beat me, don't give up yet, you just need to keep practicing on your motions''

Allen sighed, he hated losing to his father, again and again, every day they'd bout and bout but the outcome was always the same. Allen had always admired his father for as long as he could remember, here in front of him was one of the city's heroes, a hunter.

Hunters was the term given to the city's warriors. As protected as the city was there was still the need to provide the citizens with food as well as any relevant information that could help the city.

There were over a hundred hunters in Varken, being a hunter was not an easy task not only did it endanger one's life it required vigorous training and hardcore missions.

Hunters were taken out of the city perimeters and left there for days, months, years and most of the time they all made it back, over the years there were a few casualties.

Allen smiled grimly ''I guess'' he replied as his father sat down next to him.

They stood on a large platform that overlooked the whole city, a privilege from being one of the city's important individuals.

Paul had requested to have his home built near one the outposts on the tall pointed cliff though of course law required for their home to not be as high as the official military outposts as it could cause some trouble.

Their house was high enough, in fact, the highest building in a mountain next to the outposts.

Paul always told his son that it was what his wife, Paul's mother wanted; a view of the spectacular city that they had helped to bring to life.

It was night time, Paul always made sure that they trained close to sunset so that they could always catch the view of the Sun setting.

Though it was very far away due to their location, the Sun still bestowed its beautiful gaze on the sky and as it set down slowly the sky turned into a fiery orange and the light touched on the peak of the snowy crevices of the mountains. It was almost as if the Sun was touching the snowy cliffs.

''...It never gets old'' Paul said, transfixed on the view as he seemed mesmerized, Allen agreed whole fully, the sight was truly magical. ''You see that place over there'' he pointed far beyond the snowy plains they found themselves, far to the distance where there seemed to be trees, Allen had to squint far to see.

''Beyond the blizzards, beyond the ice and cold there is a land full of grass, rivers, trees, shrubs and more Sunlight than you could ever imagine'' Paul said as he smiled as if in a dream of wonder.

Allen glanced at his father, his hero ''Have you been there before?''

Paul nodded to his son's question ''a couple of times, much to the dislike of the Council, they don't approve of a hunter going astray'' Paul replied softly.

Allen became a bit confused ''are you saying they never allow you to go there, the wild?''

Paul shook his head ''We do travel there sometimes but on missions, during those times there is no time to really appreciate nature, the cool breeze or the warm bath of sunlight, it really is a sad thing''

Allen shook his head smiling, his father always had a weird sense of humor ''What about you, son?'' Allen was dumbfounded ''me?'' he asked.

Paul laughed ''The Fiona girl'' Allen almost blushed as he stammered ''...oh uh I um she's cool'' Allen had always admired Fiona Blueheart, a girl he had been schooling with for the past couple years, she was smart, intelligent, funny and very beautiful, she had such sparkling green emerald eyes unfortunately her eyes were on someone else.

She never really regarded Allen that way, they were friends alright but not really close and Allen's shy nature didn't improve his status with her.

Paul wrapped his arm around Allen ''I was just like you when I first saw your mother, she was just as smart and beautiful and she had such a fighting spirit, a certain wildness in her eyes that could not be tamed'' Allen finished the last statement with his father as he rolled his eyes ''Dad you've told me this story a million times''

Paul giggled as he punched his son softly ''smart ass'' Paul looked up to the starry skies, the stars twinkled beautifully, he sighed and said ''love is a fickle thing and you need to grab if it is what you truly want even if it's not the right girl, that is what growing up is all about'' Allen shrugged ''I don't have time for that right now, I'm more focused on training to beat you''.

Paul looked at his son sadly as he looked at the lights from the city ''I know you want to be a hunter but there are better things to do out there'' this was the part of the conversation Allen always hated, the concern, the over-protectiveness, treating him like some child who didn't know enough of the world.  Allen didn't reply and Paul sensed that if he continued further they'd have another argument and he'd rather not spoil the mood, especially with the company of the beautiful night sky. Quickly he decided to change the topic ''What about Damien, how is he doing?'' Allen smiled slightly, in all his childhood Damien had been his closest friend, they were after all prodigies of legends.

Damien's father too was a hunter, probably the highest of them all, Damien's father David was considered one of the most powerful hunters and the only hunter to be a part of the Council of Varken. Paul indeed had the chance to also be on the council but declined and till now no one knows the reasons. Damien was virtually royalty and everyone admired him.

''Damien is doing great; I'm actually supposed to meet him soon'' Allen beamed up as he stood up suddenly ''We wanted to go to the lower section of the city'' Paul gave a stern face ''you know what I'm going to say don't you?'' Allen groaned ''I know I know to be careful, we always are'' with that he ran off.

Paul shook his head and suddenly a small grey metallic object not bigger than his palms floated towards him-they were referred to as Info Drones. Info Drones were created by Builders for various purposes but they were mainly used for conveying messages to individuals though had many uses and eventually different Info-Drones were developed each possessing a unique ability. They were able to float around and didn't need much except oxygen to charge their cells, they were without a doubt of high value ''Your presence is requested Mr. Treasure at the High Council Symposium'' a voice echoed out of the orb. Paul sighed ''it's time isn't it?''
