Chapter 7

11pm, 31/8/2018

"Excuse me, I feel a little bit sick," Scarlet sprinted to the bathroom. She threw up in the toilet instantly.

"You okay?" Max called from outside.

"Um, yea, just a little dizzy from all the spinning," she called back, and threw up some flesh that she ate earlier that day.

"Take your time in the toilet, I'll eat something first," he called again.

Scarlet got herself together and walked out of the bathroom a few minutes later.

"How are you?" Max's mom asked her worriedly.

"I'm okay, thanks. What was that?" Scarlet scrubbed her eyes.

"The teleporter? Well...it's magic," Max's mom laughed. "Sorry if it made you sick. Here, you can have a cup of tea." She waved her hand through the air and a teapot and a cup flew to them. The teapot poured tea into the cup on its own.

"Oh no, no thanks... I can't handle tea that well actually...I'm half ghoul," Scarlet rejected her politely.

"Oh, right, sorry," she waved her hand again and the teapot flew away with the cup.

"We don't have blood or human flesh here though," Max's dad joked.

"It's fine," Scarlet smiled.

"Hey, sit down," Max patted a seat next to him on the sofa.

"Your home is marvellous," Scarlet ignored him and looked around. Once again she was astonished by what she saw.

The ceiling- no, there was no ceiling... at least she couldn't see a ceiling. The top part of this floor was a boundless, dazzling dark sky, embellished with a few clouds, some large, some tiny.

Then she walked over the glass cupboard and looked at wands inside. She was dazzled- there were all kinds of wands- crystal clear ones, dark divine ones, small and unusually thick ones, slender wooden ones... and three that looked potent and mystic.

"This is amazing!" She gasped.

"I bet you can see that in every sorcerer's house," Max laughed nonchalantly.

"I don't know," Scarlet shrugged, still in front of the glass cupboard. "I never went to my sorceress friend's house."

"If you go you can probably see the same things," Max's mom chuckled.

"Are these magic potions?" Scarlet walked to another glass shelf and asked with widened eyes.

"Yea, they are, but don't touch," Max looked up from his phone.

"Of course."

She was blown away. The potions were put in different transparent flasks, and they were all in different colours. A thin, raspberry red one, a thick, chalky red one, a one marked with 'speedheal', and others that are boiling and emitting bubbles and of course, many others.

"Okay your house is so stunning," Scarlet finally sat down next to Max after examining the potions. They kept a reasonable distance though.

"You're overreacting," Max rolled his eyes playfully.

"Can't blame me, I've never been to a sorcerer's house before," Scarlet shrugged. "How did you even learn all these cool magic? Does Hogwarts really exist? "

"No, Hogwarts doesn't exist but there's something like that... It's called Pogia, Institute of Sorcery. I mean, there are a lot of schools for us sorcerers, but Pogia is the most well- known one. It's for sorcerers of all ages so it operates on a larger scale than Hogwarts," Max explained.

"You spent your elementary years in Lunerra! " Max's mom interrupted.

"Oh, yes, I did," Max smiled embarrassingly. "Lunerra is an elementary school for wizards and witches."

"I see... so what do you learn there? You ended up taking engineering in university," Scarlet asked curiously.

"All magic schools teach us the basics of what humans learn, of course, to blend in with the human society. But other than that they teach us all kind of spells, self- defence and stuff like that. Some emphasize on spells, some emphasize on potions and others focus on magical creatures like unicorn and hellhounds," Max replied.

"Oh, why didn't you keep going to magic schools after elementary then?"

"I decided that I was interested in maths and I want to learn more about it, and science too," Max  grinned.

"Such a genius," Scarlet sighed. "So what did you learn in the magic school?"

"Spells. That's why I'm, well, quite good at spells," he chuckled.

"I see."

"What about you? Do ghouls or vampires... you know, train themselves? Do they have schools for ghouls or vampires?" Max asked.

"No... we're just, you know, creatures. Like, cats know how to climb naturally and dogs have outstanding smells inherently. It's in our genes," Scarlet explained. "There are, some organisations for training werewolves to be stronger for protecting themselves, and maybe their pack, though."

"I see... that's interesting," Max raised his eyebrows.

"Actually, so you have some chocolates? I'm kind of craving some," Scarlet asked embarrassingly.

"Yea, we do have some chocolates," Max's mom clapped his hands and some chocolate bars arrived right in front of Scarlet. "I thought you can't handle human food though."

"Um... I'm half ghoul only, some chocolates are fine for me, thanks," Scarlet picked out a Twix chocolate bar.

"You're incredible, you know. I've never seen a vampire who can shoot out lasers," Max looked at her.

"I'm not a full vampire-"

"Half vampire, half ghoul, yea we know that," Max laughed.

"To be honest, I'm lucky to be 50% ghoul and 50% vampire, instead of 25% ghoul 25% vampire and the other 50% of what I don't know," Scarlet said suddenly.

"Why say so?" Max's dad asked.

"Because that way, I'll probably have less vampire and ghoul powers," Scarlet explained. "Not to mention that mixed creatures between ghouls and vampire are really rare. There are far more cases of vampires and werewolves...um, crossbreeding."

"That's a really weird term, crossbreeding," Max said aloud.

"It is," Max's mom laughed.

"So yea. Anyway, I think I should get going... the later I leave, the more dangerous it gets," Scarlet got up.

"That's true. They say we're threats to them but they're a threat to us too..." Max sighed.

"You should get going, it's late. We'll continue this conversation some other time," Max's mom greeted her goodbye.

"Bye, guys... wait, where is this place?" Scarlet realised that she did not know how to go home from Max's house.

"Oh, we live on the outskirts of they city... You don't know how to go home right? I should drop you home," Max stood up and reached for his coat.

"We can just give her a brand new teleporter!" Max's dad suggested.

"That's a great idea too!" Max raised his eyebrows.

"I'll get one for you," his mom said as he went to the store room.

"Um, thanks... but I don't know how to use one," Scarlet was concerned.

"Don't worry, it's really easy," Max explained. "Just type your destination and stand next to the teleporter. I suggest that you enter a street address and turn into a bat when your surroundings get dark."

"Is it okay if I go alone?" Scarlet asked worriedly.

"You'll be perfectly fine, relax," Max patted her shoulder to assure her.

"Really?" Scarlet furrowed her eyebrows.

"Really. In the twinkle of an eye you'll be home."

"Okay, here it is!" Max's mom came out of the store room with a teleporter in her hand, that looked the same as the one they had used just some time ago.

"Where would the teleporter go?" Scarlet asked curiously.

"You can keep it," Max answered.

"Oh, so it goes with me?" Scarlet raised her eyebrows.

"Yep, it arrives the destination with you. Come on, are you ready?"

"I don't really have a choice," Scarlet laughed.

"Input the address first," Max's mom handed the teleporter to her.

"How do I do that?" Scarlet asked as she got the teleporter.

"Oh, um, wait... you don't have a wand, let me do that for you. Where do you live?" Max realised and asked.

"My destination is Garden Street."

"Okay," Max took his wand out from his pocket and started using it to write in the air. Some shiny, blue capital letters appeared.

It was 'GARDEN STREET'.

"Magic is damn cool," Scarlet said to herself.

Max waved his wand towards the teleporter and the words swiftly flew to it. Then they disappeared once they touched the teleporter.

"Okay, it's done now," Max said. "All you have to do is put it on the floor, and stand next to it. It's gonna suck you in and teleport you to your destination."

"Okay," Scarlet took a deep breath.

"Put the teleporter on the floor and stand next to it. We'll back off... so we don't get teleported also, lol," Max said.

"Alright," Scarlet sighed. "What's the worst that can happen?"

"That, you'll probably not want to know, but I'm sure that won't happen to you," Max patted her shoulder. "Come on, the later it is, the more dangerous it gets."

"You're right," Scarlet said as she put the teleporter on the floor.

Max and his parents backed away.

"Safe trip," Max's mom wished her.

"Thanks."

Rays of bright, white light started to emit from the teleporter and Scarlet could feel herself getting lighter and smaller and floating in the air again.

"I'm gonna be really sick this time," she thought to herself.

She started spinning in the air and the teleporter soon sucked her in. She started to feel like she was falling down, and spinning at the same time.

It was a really bright white surrounding her at first, which caused her eyes to feel painful. Then the hue slowly faded to a midnight dark.

She kept falling.

"I should probably turn into a bat... now."

And she turned into a bat.

12am, 1/9/2018.

Around Scarlet was some buildings near her home. She looked down, and saw the white rectangular teleporter lying in the middle of the street.

"I should pick it up before anyone else does," she flew down to the floor and picked it up.

"It's been a damn long night... I should hurry home. Don't wanna get any more hunters targeting me," Scarlet thought and flew quicker.

She got back into her room soon from her window.

"It's been a few hours since I last texted Torn... Did he text me? Has he gone to sleep already?" she turned back into human form and quickly took out her phone to check.

2 unread messages from Torn.

Torn : You're not replying me lol - sent at 9:15

Torn : Angry at me cuz I called you immature? *laughing emoji* sent at 11:45

"Aww! He texted me at 2 different times! " Scarlet smiled sweetly. "Does that imply that he wants me to reply him? He's interested in me after all?" She looked at the previous message and her smile faded a bit. "He said I was immature though."

Scarlet : No I wasn't

Scarlet : It'd been a long night for me. I'm exhausted.

Scarlet put away her phone after a while since she didn't get any replies.

"School starts in 3 days... better get ready and adjust my biological clock! Ugh!" She took her uniform out from her closet and then changed into her pyjamas and lay on bed. She turned off the lights.

"On the bright side, I'd get to see Rain. I'll ask her if she studied in a school for sorcerers when she was in kindergarten!" She thought. "Besides, Torn and I are keeping in touch... I have faith that we'll get to go out in the future, just the two of us... I know everyone's telling me that he's not a good guy and I should be aware of it, but I just like him too much! I can't help it. I don't think I can control myself, and I don't want to. I really want to be with him... even if it's just a really short period of time and I'd get hurt. I... I don't care."

"It's really been a long and exhausting night. I'll just try to sleep..." she closed her eyes.

-

SEO headquarters.

"That's bullshit! Every time your team goes on a mission, it fails! What the fuck can I tell the government? That the dangerous creatures are fucking camouflaging as humans in the society and running around, posing tremendous threats to citizens?!"

"We're sorry, we didn't really have a choice... that hybrid just landed in from of us!"

"Yea... we either come back or die..."

"Shut your damn stupid mouth!"

"Sorry."

"1 week. Get the hybrid in one week. Or you're fired."
