Scarlet flew up to the dark midnight sky full of clouds. She drifted through the clouds as a bat and looked up to the moon. 

"Oh dear, lovely, beautiful moon, how perfectly round you are tonight," she said to herself. "And how many poor werewolves would be killed tonight."

She flew to a mountain nearby with no effort and sat on a rock. She stared at the entire city for a long time. 

"Hong Kong is truly stunning after all, with lights of different hues glamouring throughout the entire night. Although that makes a hell lot of light pollution."

"I wonder if there would be a day, a day that humans can acknowledge the existing of us supernatural beings. That sounds impossible though, we basically all feed on them... It's reasonable that they loathe us..." 

Suddenly she felt enraged. "Violet... how are you doing now...? What did they do to you? Are you still alive?" 

Then she was devastated. It had been her suggestion to go to the cinema. 

"Fucking hunters, fucking humans," she blurted. "I will kill you."

She turned into a bat again and leaves the mountain, headed home.

She entered home through their window and the first thing she stepped on after turning back into human form was a piece of shattered glass.

"What was going on here?" She sighed.

Her mother, a ghoul, slapped her without any hesitation. "Where on Earth did you go?"

The slap made her feel insulted. She was furious but didn't say anything.

Her father shouted loudly, "When will you realise that it is extremely dangerous to be out alone that late? You are targeted by both vampire hunters and ghoul hunters!"

Scarlet was used to all these family issues. "You were arguing so I just went for a little stroll. I've been perfectly fine and I just needed some privacy."

Her father took a deep breath. After some time, he said softly, "Scarlet, we were just having a small fight."

Scarlet rolled her eyes and picked up a shattered piece of glass. "Sure sure sure. That's why I stepped on these. Not to mention that our food is everywhere and the couch was torn."

Her mother shrugged. "We were just having some disputes. It was not that much of a deal. You want some dinner?"

Scarlet had to admit that she was starving. "Okay. I've been ravenous for hours."

Her dad took a cup of blood from the kitchen and gave it to her. She finished it in 5 seconds. 

"This blood tastes nothing like the ones we usually drink. What blood is this?"

"Fresh human blood," her mom said with a nonchalant attitude, her arms crossed. 

Scarlet nearly threw up. "What the hell, mom? We've always just drunk blood from the dead or animals' blood! What did you do?"

Her dad sighed. "This is exactly why our home is a mess right now. We were fighting over this. Your mom killed 2 random cops."

Scarlet widened her eyes in shock. "What the hell? Why? Why did you do that, mom?! And what about their corpses?!" 

Her mom looked elsewhere. "I was thinking about Violet and I was in anguish and killed them on impulse. I fucked up and dissected them. You can eat their body parts for dinner." 

"Holy Jesus. " Scarlet made a facepalm. 

"Just eat this," her dad said as he handed over a plate of bloody eyeballs and blood vessels. 

Scarlet sighed and ate her food in silence quickly and returned to her room. 

"What did I do to deserve these parents?" She thought to herself. " They are so very weird. I feel like they are trouble. Big trouble." 

She indeed had a really irresponsible and bad mom, who had left her alone in the middle of the road when she was 4. But her dad came back to find her. In her eyes, her mother was a disgusting, fatuous failure who'd always try to get sympathy and attention from others. She longed for her to disappear from her life. She didn't think of her dad as anyone better, for the fact that he'd scowl at her when she acts cold to her mom. She thought her father was just merely stupid to love a failure like that.

It was 4 in the morning and Scarlet was having some difficulty falling asleep. She kept twisting and turning and tried all different positions but she just couldn't sleep. 

Truth is she couldn't stop thinking about the chef she met at the restaurant where she worked today. No, he was not that typical handsome male guy you'd think of. He didn't have curly messy hair and long lashes nor a strong jaw, no. 

He, instead, had slender eyes that always looked sleepy with short and thin brows, a super sharp jawline and a pale skin tone that makes him look dull , as well as a pointy nose and thick dry lips. He also dyed his hair gold which made him look really cringe. Basically he was pretty flawed. 

But he somehow caught Scarlet's attention, or Scarlet somehow caught his attention. He was always staring at her at work and that made her feel weird, so she couldn't stop thinking about him and his stares. 

"Why was him always staring at me? Is he interested in me? How? We didn't even have any sort of communication and just sat across each other during lunch!" Scarlet couldn't help but wonder. She couldn't stop thinking about it. 

She googled "What does it mean if a guy keeps staring at you". 

Well, the most she got was "he definitely has a crush on you."

"I would like to talk to him... but how? The next time I'll be seeing him is a week later because boss doesn't want too much shifts for me. Damn it." 

She took out her phone and texted her friends, Steve and Rain. Steve had been her guy best friend for years and Rain was her female friend. They'd known each other since they were 8 back in elementary school. 

Steve was a werewolf and lost his parents in a fight with the human hunters. His parents died protecting him when he was a little werewolf. Originally they were members of the Azure Shadow Pack and his dad was the Alpha. The pack originally had around 10000 members and had existed since the 1800s. However, due to excessive human hunting and prosecution, only around 30 of the pack were left, scattered all around the world.He was only 5 back then when he saw the hunters burnt down their house. He had lived with his uncle's family ever since. He got dropped out of school when he was 15, and his uncle sent him to a small town in Britain to a werewolf organization that trained werewolves intensively for their own personal purposes.

Well for Rain, things were much better for her. Her parents were sorcerers. Sorcerers like them were rare and had always kept a low profile, so they weren't as frequently targeted by the hunters as other supernaturals are.

"Guys look there's this chef guy at work that keeps staring at me and he's on my mind. Maybe he's interested in me! I want to talk to him. But how can I do that?" She typed.

She received a text back instantly from Steve. 

"WOW WOW WOW LOOK WHAT WE HAVE HERE NOW. SCARLET IS HAVING A CRUSHHHHH~"

Scarlet giggled and rolled her eyes. "That's sheer bs. Although it might be true in the future..."

"Hell to the no wtf. I just need some help and advice," she replied. 

Steve : HAHAHA

Scarlet : Fuck I'm serious I need help.

Steve : Okok fine. You said he's a chef guy? 

Scarlet : Yup. He works in the kitchen most of the time and I cant see him that often, only when he goes out to smoke and lunch time when we all sit around a big table and eat. 

Scarlet : He sometimes just stands at the kitchen door and stares at me tho

Steve : God ain't that easy enough just ask him for some recipe and start talking already.

That message made Scarlet raise her eyebrows.

Scarlet : WELL WELL WELL. That sounded like something that would work...? Idk I'll give it a try tho. Thanks man. Hows England?

Steve : Aye its good here. At least I don't have to worry as much as I was back in Hong Kong. 

Scarlet : Well... I still wish you were here tho. Rain and I miss you.

Steve : Hey Scar, you really want to take revenge? 

Steve : Our leader told us that China developed some weapons that can destroy vampires. 

That message sent a chill down Scarlet's spine. 

Scarlet : Wtf. How'd he know? What weapons? When?

Steve : He has a spy that's half werewolf half human there. He said the weapons are some small guns and they can emit infrared rays from a certain distance. Once they aim your heart and pull the trigger, your heart will explode. I think they developed it around a month ago. The government would probably not disclose it to the public. 

Scarlet widened her eyes. The thought that Violet might be used for testing the weapons crossed her mind. No, she then thought to herself. Her sister was tough. Much tougher than she had used to be before. Violet could shoot out heat lasers in their bat form while she just learnt it like a month ago. 

Steve : Hey you still here? 

Scarlet : Yea I'm here and I am not afraid of them. I will avenge my sister. 

Steve : Count me in. I'll be coming back during winter break. 

Rain : God what are you guys talking about. All that ding dings I got from my phone woke me up. Scarlet why aren't you asleep? It's 4!

Steve : That bitch is in love.

Rain : OMG WHAT.

Scarlet : Fuck no. I just want to talk to a chef guy I met from work.

Rain :  Wow. You've never wanted to talk to anyone in your life except us ;) Get yourself a chef boyfriend and he'll make you all sorts of good food. 

Scarlet : I'm just protecting myself! And I can't even eat human food for shit!

Steve : Long story short now she's going to ask the chef for a recipe. 

Rain : We'll see how it goes keep us updated ;)

Scarlet : END THIS TOPIC WE HAVE MUCH MORE IMPORTANT SHIT TO TALK ABOUT.

Rain : What?

Steve : Read the previous messages you dumbass. 

Rain : Okay fine.

2 minutes passed.

Rain : Oh my god what on Earth.

Steve : Fuck. I'll avenge my parents. 

Rain : Guys, I have no one to avenge but I want to help. 

Scarlet : Rain that is dangerous. What would your parents do if anything happens to you?

Rain : I'll be fine! You guys are my friends and I want to help! And you could use a sorcerer too... 

Scarlet : BUT IT'S JUST DANGEROUS.

Steve : Rain I wouldn't mind your help. Scarlet just let her be!

Rain : Yea just let me be! 

Scarlet : But you are a sorcerer! You aren't as speedy as werewolves and you can't turn into a bat like me! And you're basically just an ordinary human without your wand!

Rain : Scar, I'm offended. Are you looking down on me? I know a lot of useful spells that can save you guys! And not to mention that the fact that I'm just exactly like those humans makes it  easier for me to hide from them! 

Steve : Scarlet you shouldn't have said that.

Scarlet : Okay okay fine I'm sorry. I was just worried. Rain, we'll call you if anything happens okay?

Steve : I got so much more powerful after the intensive training here. 

Scarlet : Good to know. I can shoot out lasers in bat form now.

Rain : Whatever. I'm going back to sleep. Goodnight. 

Steve : I have to go for dinner now. 

Scarlet : Okay. Bye.

She put away her phone and finally felt some doziness taking over her. 

"I'll go to hunt for a wild boar tomorrow... I'm craving some," she thought as she drifted into a deep sleep. 

Little did her family know, a dark figure was watching their apartment from a hill nearby. 

"Yes, sir. I understand," he said to someone on his phone.

Traits of werewolves :

- Extremely speedy and strong

- Large appetite 

-  They can shapeshift into human form or werewolf form anytime they like, but most of them do it when there's a full moon. 

Traits of enchantresses (sorcerers) :

- Each sorcerer needs a wand to cast spell.

- They are usually not targeted by hunters since there are not many of them and they keep a low profile. 

- Their bodies are just like humans' so they are vulnerable to normal bullets.
